Ordered large donner and chips. There was more sauce than meat . Also under cooked. Terrible. Would never use again. Stay away

Terrible food. Ordered a regular cod and chips. Got home and it was all batter, absolutely no fish. Its like they sliced the fillet in three's it was so flat. I even zoomed in with my camera to find it it was that bad. Please don't waste your money here.

We had a charity event and the Island House at Newbridge did a great job with our fish and chip supper, the staff were accommodating and helpful . Even with numerous changes with a large event they were good at communication and with over 74 meals, all correct and a good temp erasure and everyone seemed to enjoy thoroughly. I thank everyone for helping us provide a nice supper for our event . Well done Newbridge Chippy

Ever since it was taken over the food has gone down hill, it's hot and miss each week. My regular is large chips can of coke, chips are either been sat there a while so they're dried out or sweaty, I think it's because they now use these bags instead of paper. My latest visit was cod and chips, the cod was dry as hell, you could tell it had been sat there a while and half my chips were batter bits, not worth the price.

I placed a click and collect order online. On arriving at store the staff were very unfriendly. Didn’t believe me that I had ordered chips with my chicken until I showed them my order then said they could now see it on screen but accused me of changing my order. Then seemed very belligerent about giving me the chips even though I had paid for them. Girl on till didn’t believe I had already paid and again had to show her the order. This would have been fine if they had at least smiled, said thank you or apologised for their mistake but none of these were forthcoming. Of the three fish only one was nice, the other two were more batter than fish. Chips were mediocre, batter was too crispy and didn’t stick to chips. Southern Fried Chicken was nice. Used to be better.

I have had numerous takeaways from the Stafford Road branch when working in the area which have always been freshly cooked to order and delicious, served by friendly staff. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had taken over the Newbridge chippy as this is local to where my parents live so I went to get them a takeaway from here. Surly, ignorant girls taking the orders and then 4 people after me got their meals before I did. Come on guys…..it’s not rocket science. Go to Pep’s plaice or the Stafford road branch if you want service with a smile.

Really disappointed with the food this week. We regularly eat from this chippy and the food is great! but today was a massive let down with chips overcooked almost as of they were cooked twice and the southern fried chicken really dry crumbling apart no even moist. I had to throw away half of the chips as it was just batter. The Haddock however was the only saviour as it was freshly cooked.

I ordered two scallops for £1, the server rang them up on the till for £2 until I told her they are advertised for £1. I then had to wait 15 - 20 minutes for them to ve cooked. Once cooked they were put in a foil coated paper bag and there was loads of liquid grease dripping through hitting the counter like water running from a tap. She then double bagged it and I took them home, hoping some of the grease would have absorbed by then. Still greasy when got home. Put me off eating them, never seen so much grease.

Found a battered hair in my chips. very unhappy. unhygienic. will not be coming back. very disapointed

Found this chip shop whilst on our bike ride, food was lovely, the mini fish and chips, kebab meat and chips and done burger meal excellent value for money, definitely will go again, staff friendly

The fish and chips here are the best I have had in a very long time. They come in a box, perfect, the fish is a decent size, lovely tasting and freshly cooked. The batter is crisp and thin and does not over power the fish. Have been a few times over last few month and always consistent, not had a bad meal yet.

Where do I start🤔fri evening wanted to order: plain, 1 mini fish battered chips, 1 pie battered chips curry sauce, 1 portion of battered chips . 7.35pm placed order ticket no 1. 8.05 a lady called me in and asked what was my order? She apologised they had lost my ticket, reason being they were 1 staff member short, how many staff do they need, 2 men and 5 girls, told to wait a little longer order being done. 15 mins later I was called in again, apologies again for the delay the manager said you can have 2 cans of pop complementary, so I asked for Pepsi max. Got home opened the order : 1 kebab plain ✅ 1 mini fish with battered chips✅ 1 pie with normal chips curry sauce❎ 1 portion of battered chips MISSING ❎ 2 Cans Pepsi max ❎ 1 Pepsi, 1 coke WELL DONE ANOTHER CUSTOMER LOST! While I was waiting another lady demanded her money back as waited far too long and told the staff that she would NOT be returning, all the girls just laughed as she walked out🤬 I do hope that lady also leaves a review.

Ordered via Uber eats - driver delivered but was more interested taking a photo to prove it was delivered than a knowledge me. Cola was missing, asked him and he ignored me and walked off. Called him back and asked where my cola was with drinking actions - told me to contact restaurant and left. (Didn’t give a toss) Rang the chippy and a girl answered and said “oh I was meant to call you and tell you we didn’t have cola”. Asked if they could sort me a drink as I want a drink with my food, she passed the phone to another guy and he arranged for one to be delivered but said as traffic was bad it would take awhile. I’m still waiting for my drink (my food is now cold and was pointless ordering)and it’s been over and hour, I live 15 mins away from the chippy if that. AVOID this chippy if ordering via an app, the drivers don’t care and the staff are about as useful as putting a toddler in charge. Complete joke!!!

Went last Saturday night, waited outside because there was a sign on the door only four people allowed in the shop, I was waved in when they saw me waiting, I ordered food and another four people in two groups come in the shop, no social distancing, 5 of the eight people had no masks. When I ask one person to move away from me as he was no more than 2 feet away I was told to 'chill out man'' and management were oblivious, I hope I don't regret my visit because of their complete disregard to Covid rules.

Visited Saturday December 19th. Five portions of cod & chips in a box ...what a treat....the fish was a good size ,very tasty with perfect crispy batter. The chips were freshly cooked and very good . the portion size was more than adequate. We were more than pleased with the quality and value for money . A return visit is planned for New Year’s Eve...

First visit since lockdown, disappointing to see it has changed hands. Battered chips greasier, soggy and not what they were, fish undercooked and tiny portions, curry sauce not as nice as it used to be, tastes like it’s from a jar. Won’t be using them again, will have to find another local chippy.

I’m sorry but I do feel more safe when the staff serving food should wear a mask, on asking the staff she said,”I ay bin told to, would you with all this heat” funny enough it’s the only chip shop I’ve been into wear they are not wearing any face covering, no visor or anythingThe women took my money put in the till then went to serve the chip up, sorry but even before Covid basic hand wash is good

Have noticed Newbridge Chippy has been taken over by The Island House , off stafford rd .So called in today for dinner as we were out tettenhall anyway, they are doing a lot more than newbridge Chippy did, and of much better Quality everything is cooked fresh, other than pies , and must say is a whole lot better .Chips are well cooked, hot fish cooked well not all greasy, and the usual with the curry sauces all on Par . Definitely go back for more , good service aswell, reasonable prices and really quick service . Definitely return

Just had the worst roe and chips that I can remember for a very long time. Tasteless and over cooked. I won't bother again. Many other better chippies.

I went before Christmas and the food let me down a little, however i have recently tried it out again and the standard has gone back to 5 stars for me. the service was excellent and the food was amazing! i recommend to try this chippy out as its worth it!!

I ordered around £25 of food, which included fish, kebabs, burgers and chips. We got a free bottle of coke with our order as it was £25 or more! The best fresh fish in wolvo! kebabs were 100% lamb and the burgers were cooked perfectly!

We have used this chippy for years every 2 to 3 months. We have to travel to get there but previously the meal has been worth it. Never again. The chips were dry the fish was a very odd shape. The food was just not up to scratch in the way it used to be. The lady who served me was lovely, but it is the food I go for- sadly this is one we will be crossing off our list.

Expensive chippy that serves kebabs / burgers without salad unless you ask for it! Chips portion size very small compared to previous visits. Unsympathetic assistant when I phoned to complain. Please do not short change your customers. Very disappointed and the meal was discarded.

after not having newbridge for a while i thought tolday i would try it again despite the recent reviews DISGUSTING chips were like little slabs of grease i couldnt even eat them Gravy was stringy not impressed and safe to say i will not be using again

Asked for Haddock (boxed meal) - which is usually cooked to order.Did wonder why the 'chef' spent a couple of minutes 'manipulating' the fish in the chiller before taking it out to cook. I reckon now that it had dried out and he knew it.The chips were plentiful & fresh (a bit greasy but they were served almost straight out of the fryer - no chance to drain) but the fish was tough & chewy and even the batter seemed overly tough (maybe overcooked while waiting for the chips to cook?). Had I been in a restaurant - it would have gone back to the kitchen.Not a good first experience with this management.

I’ve been going to Newbridge Chippy for years and never been disappointed, but recently the standard has gone way down. The chips taste really oily like they have been cooked in really old oil, absolutely disgusting taste and smell and all the family have made the same comments

Oh boy, this place has changed hands, all signs still say award wining.Well that was one years ago with the previous owners.The standard of the food is now less than average.We won’t be going back.One tip for them change the oil your cooking the food in.Really was discussing food.We won’t return

First visit to Newbridge for Gluten Free fish and chips. The staff member who answered phone and made the fish and chips was very polite, helpful and professional. I ordered two small gluten free fish and chips and they didn't disappoint. Portions came in a box with freshly cooked, golden chips (not greasy) with beautifully cooked fish. Batter was very light and well cooked - delicious. My friend requires GF food and she rated it as excellent. Highly recommend. Ring prior to collection to ensure that your order is prepared.

Always love to visit when we come to wolves great food cheap as well one complaint tho please buy some burger sauce.

The food from here was so bad we actually decided to drive back to the shop to give them their food back and complain. Never again.

I was asked "large or small fish", my reply was large. The cook gave me 1 of each because the small fish was the last. I could only eat the small one and was full, beautiful texture. The large fish is in the fridge for tomorrow.

The must go to chippy when we stay at an Airbnb in Newbridge. Good food and not too expensive. Good service as well.

We use this place regularly. The staff are always extremely helpful and very polite and friendly. Food is lovely, we’ve never had a bad meal from here. It is always busy which shows just how popular it is. We always travel a couple of miles to use this one rather than the one around the corner from us. Would definitely recommend.

Most fish and chip shops are much the same but the chips at Newbridge Chippy are exceptional because there's hardly a trace of oil , yet they're moist in the middle and dry on the outside . The fish is good , too , and the portions generous .

I visit here from time to time as I live nearby and the food is always good, it's fresh tasting looks nice and well portioned and also very reasonably priced, the staff are very polite and professional and the service is quick, the place itself also appears very clean, I wouldn't take too much notice of the bad reviews on here about this place just go and visit and form your own opinion, but I would recommend Newbridge Chippy any day of the week.

Whenever we travel anywhere near Wolverhampton, we make a point of doing a detour, to get to Newbridge on the way home. It is always the best fish and chips for miles around. Not sure why it hasn't won more awards.

Absolutely horrendous! I travelled for 20+ minutes for their glutenfree food, it was awful. As you can see on the photos I've attached the food clearly is NOT fresh! Everyone can tell when chips have been reheated I mean look at them! They were inedible! The fish came like the photo all broken up! I phoned to complain to basically be called a liar and that the child that served me had cooked them fresh! So I told them I'd be adding photographs on trip advisor! They offered me a fresh portion however I didn't fancy wasting anymore of my time or fuel going back. I will NOT return and I'd urge you to not go and waste your money! I also had two children's chicken nugget meals which my children said were the "most disgusting nuggets" they'd ever eaten!

Been here several times never had a bad meal and staff are always polite and frendly. Top marks! Plenty of parking around the back.

Not been to Newbridge chippy for ages though children used to go from school. Tried the chips with some 'Irish curry sauce' delicious!! Was very impressed might start to use regularly in future.

Visitamos el viernes por la noche, no estaba muy lleno. Patatas fritas regulares (regular en el menú pedimos unbattered) y dado que es una porción de tamaño regular de papas fritas con mantequilla. Filete de pollo hamburguesa era ordenados con el servidor preguntando qué quería salsa era. Suponiendo que se puso como ensalada era sin preferencia de pedido, pero no fue así. No me di cuenta de cualquiera de los errores hasta unwrapped en casa y no te molestes en volver a quejarse. La comida era bastante agradable, aunque no era lo que esperaba.

gluten free Tuesdays, the best gluten free fish and chips that I ever had, they taste the same as the normal battered ones. order on the phone and pick up nice and hot . I am now a regular.

Well we have all had chips from the local chippy but this chip shop is like no other the menu is great value the food is fantastic and the staff are good looking and very pleasant it a must visit place

Lovely battered chips here! Always busy and has long queues regularly. They also offer hake here which is amazing, it's huge one can easily feed 2/3 people!

Not much to say expect for, tried the chips and hands down they were the best chips I've ever had. Almost had a refried look. The chips were golden in colour, it's as if they were handmade by God himself. A union between a wedge and a chunky chip. Yes. Had them with mayonnaise, and eat bite was better than the last.

After a disastrous meal in the pub opposite, had to go get fish & chips for my Dad. Fast service, hot fresh white fish and the option of 'plain' chips! Having read some bad reviews, the standard has obviously gone back to what it was under previous ownership!

The rest of the family love battered chips. I can't stand the things. Still I'm told that they are 'traditional' so I'll have to try and get used to them. The fish is, I'm told, very good - as are the burgers and they do the pies well. One of the better chippies in town.

I have reviewed this chip shop previously but needed to do an update as it has now improved again considerably. The good staff are now back at front and it is lovely to see them again and the food is now much better and very reasonably priced. The chips are fabulous!

Most Chip Shops these days cannot cook Fish and chips.Ignore the bad reviews about the Newbridge (Fryer) chip shop because it offers the best by far. This must be the case because on occasions I travel from Bilston an 8.5 mile round trip to purchase the delights.If you are a kebab fan the doner kebabs are the cream of the crop they are 100% New Zealand lamb.The chips are chunky.

Fantastic, haven't been for a while. Food is great and the chips are so fluffy and crispy, fed the family for around 15 pounds can't complain. Very busy on my visit today but was served quickly and with a smile. Defo would recommend it.

Used to be a great chippy, but standards have dropped.. Kebabs are ok ish but the chips are not good. Quite fundamental for a chippy. They are greasy and leave a bad taste in the mouth

Not sure why so many negative reviews, Newbridge Fish & Chips is the best for miles around. I live in a village a few miles from Wolverhamton which has 2 fish & chip shops but we always drive to Newbridge for theirs, they are still very hot when we get back home. The fish is very white with chunky flakes, batter is thin & crispy, chips are just right, delicious. I thought the food did go down towards the end of the previous ownership but has been brought back up to a really good standard by new owners.

It is my local chipy. I don't eat chips every day, but when I've got a crave for some Newbridge Fryer is the best in the area. Fish, chips, chicken... and everything else is always very tasty. And the staff is very friendly :) And large portions of chips is really large, believe me !!!

Used to be the best chippy in Wolverhampton. Unfortunately since new management service not good, fish terrible and attitude even worse. There were great staff who have now been sidelined to back who we miss and the food used to be great unfortunately not so any more

I've seen quite a few mixed reviews on here. From what I understand there has been a change of management/ownership however I cant say I've really noticed. With any chip shop they have the odd bad day but the majority of the time I purchase my chips they are very nice. I must admit they are a tad on the expensive side, however the size of the portions really do justify this. Although there are a couple of bad reviews in there don't let that put you off, anyone who lives in the area or uses this chip shop will tell you there is always a very long line of customers most nights and especially on a Friday, and this is due to the quality of the food which they provide.

How can a fish and chip shop get it so wrong! The recent management change is awful, poor service, quality if food not as good. I've tried three times now thinking it'll get better. 1st visit slow and a very little fish in a box. Second visit waited for 15 mins gave up. Third visit two people waiting still waited 10 mins nothing cooking so left again! Disappointment all round!!!

I noticed that there have been two very positive reviews about this shop posted by the same person within the space of a month. This person (Paul D)has only ever posted two reviews and both about the Newbridge Chippy.Seems very odd when other reviews are not so good... Makes you wonder who that person is!!!

Ordered mixed kebab had massive amount of chips and a slither of meat, not impressed won't b back as not as good as used to be

Got me two cod in the box meals yesterday at lunch large fish and chips and a side 6 pound each. Words can't explain it was excellent from the food to the way the owner spoke to us and looked after us. Thanks will defo be back. Best in the area, by a country mile.....

When I go into a chip shop and ask for mini fish and chips, I expect mini fish and mini chips, not mini fish and regular chips. They did offer to change it when I queried it, but as there was a queue I could not be bothered and the boss just smiled at me, while messing around with his phone. Not happy when I got home either and checked the price list to find I have been over charged. Fish was ok, but back to The Fish Inn with much nicer staff and better prices.

Newbridge chippy was a place I have often recommended in the past, great fish and chips, I say 'was' a place because after my most recent visit I don't think i will be recommending it any more or going back in a hurry. First impressions were, not much seems to have changed, different staff but very welcoming non the less, but the food, oh dear, chips were average at best and the less said about the fish the better, soggy batter, I'm presuming the large fish was Cod, it looked white and meaty but the taste, yuk !!!!!!!!!!!. Maybe an on off night ? maybe not. on a personal note I can't wait for Pepe's place at Compton to re-open. Great shame used to be very good, depends what your used to i suppose, but not for me.

Very good food good price and excellent service. Friday night is chippy night, to say that they were that busy at the shop the wait wasn't to long and the food a very high standard. Haddock had thinly crispy batter and chips were delicious. Peas weren't bad too. Me and my partner had the fish In a box each all together came to a little under 12 pounds. Good value. Will definitely use this shop again. Good parking and very clean.

Htis was always the best chippy in town but things have gone down hill since new owner has taken over. Just popped in for a couple of curry patties and chips. The chips were disgusting. They were dry and chewy like they had either been cooked and then reheated or had been left to stand a long time. Disgusting and inedible. Surely a chippy should be able to produce fresh chips to paying customers its a cheap commodity. The pattie was also badly cooked or microwaved leaving it soggy and crisp,not nice. If the new owner considers this good service then other customers will do the same as me . Go elsewhere

Good fish and chips, mushy peas are a must! They also do healthy options too, just ask. Car park round the back too.

Bland heavily overpriced chip shop. Genuinely cannot believe how much food costs, one kebab and 2 fish and chips cost over £15. Speechless...

I wrote a review for this chippy back in October when it was run by Andy who was passionate about the place. Since then there has been a change of owner and judging by the reviews since mine I am not the only one who thinks it is going downhill.I recently visited and waited to be served, the guy behind the counter was too busy fiddling with his iPod to even bother to look up. I waited to be acknowledged but this was not to be so I walked out. I have been back once since and realised the guy with the iPod is the new owner!!He has a bad attitude from what I can see and thinks because he is the owner he can treat both staff and customers as he sees fit!I have voted with my feet and now go elsewhere (The Fish Inn in Newhampton Road.. It's much cheaper too!) It's a shame to see a chippy that had such a brilliant reputation under its previous owner go downhill so fast and unless it changes quickly I think it will soon be history.

Good portions and the option of smaller portions for those with a smaller appetite or wallet. Service with a smile and reasonably priced.

ordered salmon, waited over 20mins whiles another customer comes in and order's salmon and in 5mins both salmon comes out. on the wall advert, it says choices of dressing with the salad, i asked the women serving told me to ask the cook, since it was very busy i asked when the salmon came out. it had already been drowned in honey and mustard source, i told them i didn't get asked which dressing i would like, and was told abruptly by 1 of the guy that he had asked me, now i know for sure i only spoke to the women at the till. and the salmon was cold. what makes it more frustrating is when i do call up to tell them about the mistake, the same guy that picked up the phone is the same guy that told me point blank in the shop that he had asked me. he then proceeded to shout at me down the phone and actually hang up on a customer. my wife phone up and he said the same thing, that he has never had a complained about the food or that any grilled fish is cold. he seems to think that shouting at a customer, after he has made a mistake is acceptable. for a £7 small piece of salmon that was cold, i am afraid not. he even told my wife that he doesn't need customers like us, and not to come there again as he doesn't want anyone coming there that complain's

Best Chippy/Chips I have ever had. Really friendly behind the counter too. Not tried any of the grilled fish options but nice to see these on the menu.

Don't understand why people go to this chippy. I've been in a few times and always walk out due to there being so little to choose from. They don't keep the food stocked up and I have been at all times. I always end up going to the next chippy or the Chinese. King Cod!

This without doubt the best fish and chip shop in Wolverhampton if not the West Midlands! The food is all freshly prepared and Andy (The Boss) is passionate about the business and his enthusiasm is infectious! The chips are wonderful and batter on the fish is lovely and crispy. Parking is also good with large car park at the rear of the shop. Only criticism is food is a bit more expensive than competition, but then again quality never comes cheap!Well worth a visit!

Previous bad experience couple of years ago but decided to give them another try. Good size portions, food hot and tasty. Much improved.

I don't live near this chip shop but we go because the chips are the best! Very friendly staff (sorry can't comment on what else is on offer as I haven't tried it but the mushy peas are good too)

Never fails on quality. If you want great chips with the best fish in town then this is the place for you. It's not a 99p chippy but worth ever penny they charge. Andy the boss knows his trade and stands proudly by anything he sells. Always worth the travel and wait.
