New Wongs Garden in New Forest

We had a big takeaway order while in the area to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately we tried to phone it through on a Friday evening but the phone went unanswered So called in. Was very busy which is a good testimony. However, the food took an hour to come out. It was delicious though once we got it home. Would be 5 stars without the long wait.

I have been a customer here for several decades. The food has only got better! I've tried the Ringwood takeaway and New Wongs is MUCH better. Fresher. Better flavour. You can watch the chefs cook (if you peek around the corner). I honestly and truly believe this is the best Chinese food I've ever had outside a gourmet London establishment. Chow mein, perfect noodle size and plenty of ingredients. Egg fu Yung? Layered egg and a good amount of broth. Ribs? Sweet but not sickly. The batter on the king prawn balls is perfectly done and crispy without being too oily (a certain amount of oil is expected and desired). I will probably be eating here my entire life. I came here with my father in the early days of its opening and I'm yet to find a standard takeaway that can out do them! Order early as they are (rightly) very popular.

Fantastic Chinese one of the best we've had for a long time, very busy best to call before you go otherwise there is quite a queue, which to me is a good sign

Visited Here whilst staying at Sandy Balls Holiday Village - absolutely delicious Chinese - we had various dishes as a family of 8 and all agreed it was one of the nicest Chinese takeaways we have tried, fair potions, hot and delicious food.

Take away my husbands prawn chow main was excellent. I had a disappointing Peking quarter duck but one phone call today the owner listened and apologised and immediately offered to replace. Shall definitely give it another go

Had a Very nice Chinese meal at this restaurant we ordered a large order over the phone and it was all very nice would use again if in Fordingbridge

Better than excellent! Highly recommended - food always tasty and all ingredients fresh. Remember this a collection only Take away - not a delivery service. Staff always friendly and helpful. It can be difficult to get through on the phone at peak times as it is so popular.

I ordered cod and chips for two then had a long wait. Small portions of fish were coated in thick batter that had an unpleasant flavour. The fish was rubbery and the batter oily, the chips had an unpleasant taste too. I can only assume the establishment is under new ownership as they had been highly recommended. Almost all was discarded, we then made alternative arrangements.

The fish and chips are a bit hit and miss, but the Chinese food has always been really good. The problem we're having of late, is trying to phone an order through. We have wasted so much time trying to get through and we end up having to go inside to order. This isn't ideal when there is hardly anywhere to park! Please answer your phone!

The food was bland. We were really looking forward to the Chinese meal but were so disappointed. We had a good variety of food but all of it was really bland. Looked ok but no taste, sadly, even the crispy duck was boring.

We are locals to Fordingbridge Rockbourne and we have been a little undecided about this takeaway recently and after tonight’s meal we are definitely not using again The chicken satay was full of unedible chicken bits and was totally tasteless, full of slimy onion and the chicken tasted uncooked The vegetable chow mein was pretty tasteless as well Its worth it to drive to one at Ringwood instead Wont be using again I’m afraid

Ordered fish and chips for 5 along with curry sauce. Got onion rings thrown in for free and one of the chip portions went unopened due to the size of them. Hate waste but couldn’t help it as these portions were so large. Fish quite greasy but think this was due to being freshly cooked and wrapped immediately. Chips hot and fresh. Would recommend if you are staying anywhere near. Thank you

Whilst visiting the New Forest with family we tried to ring through a large order on Saturday night but were unable to get through so at 7.15 pm drove the short 5-minute journey. They were queuing outside and people were waiting for orders inside (socially distanced apart) and outside. We queued 15 minutes before ordering and waited 25 minutes for food. On a Saturday night at this time of night you can't complain about this and it was obvious the takeaway was very popular. The food was worth waiting for. Big portions and tasty. Highly recommend but ring orders through early or be prepared to queue.

Decent Takeaway. Staying nearby so checked out trip advisor as fancied a takeaway. Great as the kids wanted fish & chips and us adults got Chinese all from one place. Fast friendly service and great portion sizes for a reasonable price. We really enjoyed it all. Not being from the area you can never really tell what’s a decent takeaway but like the previous reviews it’s a good old fashioned local Chinese takeaway dishes which can be different to metropolitan Chinese restaurant dishes. Fish and chips cooked well too with a nice crispy batter. They take cash and card but it’s collection only. Menu can be found on their website.

This was my regular for a year and I miss it so much! Best sweet and sour chicken I've ever had, and decent prices for a good amount of food, excellent customer service!

Being away for a few days nearby we chose to get fish and chips to eat in the park and we weren't disappointed. We also had onion rings and pea fritter. All were very enjoyable.

We ordered through the phone and we asked if it’s possible to deliver since we are not locals and are staying in a BnB and the guy on the phone said that they do deliver and it’ll be 25 minutes. 40 minutes later we still haven’t gotten our food so we phoned up and asked if it’s on the way and a very rude asian lady said that we have to come get the food because it’s been there for 30 minutes and before I could say that we were told that it was going to be delivered she hung up. We then went to the place and picked up our food and they didn’t even say a thing or apologised. If they could’ve told us that they only do pick up and not delivery when we phoned then we would be happy to pick it up but they told us false information and made us wait for nothing. It’s a shame because the food was good but the service is just appalling.

We ordered through phone and the guy on the line said they will deliver to where we are staying though when it came to the time the order was meant to arrive it never did we then rung them after another 15 mins and a lady picked and was really rude saying are we going to come there or what , we were surprised said okay but you said you will deliver and she hung up on us. fingers crossed the food will be okay eeeee but yes really rude staff , shame.

I have been going here for 17 years. Never had a bad takeaway.I would high recommend them nor Chinese food and fish and chips.

This is not a top class Chinese Restaurant like (say) The Jade in Salisbury but it is a really good basic Chinese take-away. Do what you do well and NWG does. Portions sizes are good and the food well cooked, never had a bad one here in years of visiting. Contrary to at least one review on here the staff and the owner are fine, friendly and helpful and always greet me with a cheery smile and welcome

My boyfriend and I have just moved to Fordingbridge and heard that this restaurant was much better than Peking so we tried this one - very impressed! The food was NOT greasy for once and everything tasted fresh! Will definitely be back many many times!

Have been using New Wongs Garden every week for years and they have never let me down, fish & chips the best. Always polite and friendly & exceptional cleanliness. Would recommend & great for entertaining, saves me cooking !!!

We are local and usually I would recommend however tonight we had fish and chips, chips were great but the fish was so disappointing all we got was batter and no actual fish inside.. such a shame.

The male owner has repeatedly been rude to me over the past year. I'm expressing myself due to the amount I use newwongs and pretty much every time he's rude and has no manners. For example, If your order is under £15, you cannot pay by card which is fair enough these days. However, if you forget about this or you do not realise he makes out it is the end of the world and in due to his rudeness rufsed to pay and go somewhere else due to him belittling me.Extremely poor service and bad manners towards customers.

Poor sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, no pineapple and a tiny piece of pepper. Decent size and amount of prawns in the szechuan and cashew dishes but poor quality sauces and sides. It was a real shame as we hadn't had a Chinese for a while. Wouldn't order again.

We ordered both Chinese meals and fish and chips for 6 people. We had to wait a while because it was incredibly busy - large portions ( maybe too large !) but one of the best takeaways we hav3 used anywhere

We stopped by on the walk back to our cottage rental and picked up chicken & chips, the servings were generours and their was lots of options on the menu. We knew it had to be good as there as a long line just after opening up at 5pm.

We went and got a takeaway meal which we took back to our tent, the portions are great and the food tasted good.

Never had a bad meal from this establishment always very hot and well cooked . The man at front of house is always cheerful even when the place is packed and he is under pressure .

Thought we'd have a cheeky takeaway after bike riding in the forest all day. I would say average at best. Not a very extensive either.

We’re staying at the nearby Sandy Balls resort and decided to get a take away one night. Food was superb, priced very similar to other Chinese take away’s and very good portion sizes. It did us as a family of four for the following night too. If we come back to Sandy Balls in the future we will definitely use again.

Stopped here for dinner as we were staying at a local campsite, so glad we did, large portions and honestly one of the best fish n chip suppers we’ve ever had, enjoyed every single morsel, highly recommend!

A local takeaway with great service and a decent variety of food. would love to see fish options ie squid or more prawn or veggie options but there is still enough to please everyone with different tastes/pallets.

The Chinese food is consistently good here and well priced at about £6 per meal. Fish and chip portions are huge and the quality better than the local, traditional English competition.

We usually eat at the Peking house because the food is really good but tonight we decided to try a new place. I am sorry I did. This food was horrible. We ordered spring rolls and we got this giant football sized bean sprout burrito. What the woof? I had to throw it out. I had the special fried rice and chicken with black bean sauce. The special fried rice was bland and tasted like it had chopped spam in it. The chicken with black bean was OK but didn't have much sauce. All in all we were disappointed. Don't think I will go there again. It's a miss for me.

The Chinese food here is spot on. Really tasty and not greasy like you find in many other places. Word of advice: if you are ordering for your main evening meal then only have a light/ small lunch! The portions are large - the pancake roll is huge full of filling not just batter! Always a bit dubious of having a fish and chip supper from a Chinese but not from here. Again large size portion (even the "small") freshly cooked and again full of fish not just mounds of batter. Beware very busy especially Friday & Saturday but worth the wait. Friendly staff.

Got three orders of Cod and Chips (large) for take away. Fish was large and tasty. Chips were enough to feed 6 or 9. Probably order small next time. Friendly service and lots of locals.

The colleague who carried the food next to me in my car got loads of grease on his trousers so wasn’t a great start! The duck starter was nice, however the sauce seemed a bit weird! Most of the dishes were very greasy, which seems to be a common thing these days at most Chinese takeaways. Won’t be returning for Chinese New Year sorry!

Not the worst fish and chips I've ever had but pretty close. Chips lukewarm and in a big congealed lump. Small quantity of poor fish surrounded by huge quantity of slimy undercooked batter. I managed to eat some of mine but my wife chucked hers in the bin after a couple of mouth fulls.

Got takeaway from here whilst staying in fordingbridge. food was nice but very very greasy especially the king prawn noodles. The chicken and sweetcorn soup also had too much chicken pieces in and no soup at all really.

Food is amazing and excellent value, but parking is a problem when collecting an order! I would highly recommend you give this place a try!

2 curry arroz con pollo incluido, hongos y bolas de pollo chow mien. Grandes trozos de pollo y otras verduras, estamos acostumbrados a pollo y cebolla, De vuelta a casa, guisantes champiñones y cebolla. Buen servicio y gratis pan de gambas. Precioso enorme Spring roll de luz, y pasta de nuevo masa de luz en las bolas.

En promedio, mi pareja y normalmente conseguir comida desde aquí una vez a la semana y no estamos todavía decepcionado. Me gusta que use los fideos delgado en su chow mien, la comida nunca es como en algunos restaurantes chinos grasienta, y el servicio es excelente. Todo lo que quieras desde un local de comida para llevar. No puedo hacer ningún comentario sobre su pescado y patatas fritas, pero veo que hay suficiente gente en hacer llegar el pescado y patatas fritas, así que supongo que es tan buena como su chino.

Went here on our first night of a holiday. Ordered the 2 cod plus large chips, and an extra fish cake for my toddler. Large chips - not very large (compared to our local chippies at home), cod was a bit slimy - worst of all, I found TWO hairs cooked into my fish batter *blurggh* they obviously need to start using hair nets. Saying that, the food was ok and not terrible. But if you can go elsewhere, then do so.

The better (by far) of the two Chinese take-away/restaurants in Fordingbridge. Many say that their fish and chips are also excellent. I think closed on Tuesdays

Picked up what was possibly the worst take away I have had in the UK or the US. House special chow mein..tasteless noodles with some meat and vegetables...Roast Duck Chinese style...completely overcooked again and seemingly no seasoning watery bean sprouts. Sweet and Sour chicken balls truly awful some were edible more than half contained a grey meat that resisted biting. Maybe Mondays are not the night to try take away here.

The chinese food is really good which you would expect but the fish and chips is even better . The staff are always smiling and will advise you if you are unsure about anything .

I've been using this Chinese take away for nearly 20 years, their food has always been really tasty with very generous portions and at a reasonable price.Even if you're having just an English take away, their chips are the best in town (definitely do not go anywhere else in Fordingbridge for chips) and the food is very tasty.I cannot recommend this place enough so don't hesitate and have a great take away.

Visited the take away whilst on holiday at Sandyballs which was just up the road. The menu is varied with a good selection of food at a reasonable price. The service was quick and the food was tadty and really good.Well worth a visit.

Quick service, reasonably priced and best of all tasty Chinese. We ordered from the car on the way back from the beach, they said it would take 15 minutes and they were spot on - large portions we didn't order a feast but it fed us all very comfortably, kids loved the mini spring rolls x

I am confused!, went here for takeaway on the first evening of our holiday, Went because of the good reviews! The worst take away we have experienced for a long time! Two of us had the fish and chips and two chinese. The fish was very thin and amazingly dry the batter hard, there were a lot of chips, but they were not cooked properly and swimming in oil. The chinese food was awful like a bad chinese from the 70's. The sauces were like wall paper paste and tasted of sweetener and not much else, the pancake roll was huge but everything was so greasy it could not be eaten, the only thing that was ok was the rice. Do nut understand the good reviews to be honest, maybe it was a very bad night, or some of my fellow reviewers have to put up with very bad chinese take aways where they live.

New Wongs Garden didn't leave a very good impression. The menu is quite limited in choice for a Chinese takeaway (their business seems in fact to be quite fish/chip and British fast food oriented). The quality is amongst the poorest I've experienced in the UK: specifically the King prawns didn't seem fresh, were in a tasteless batter, and the sweet/sour dressing was thick and laden in MSG. The extremely fast speed at which the food was produced should probably have been a warning signal. I wasn't able to finish the meal despite being hungry before I started.Please note there is no parking outside the takeaway: instead there are double yellow lines. You will need to park in the town pay and display carpark 400 metres away.Genuinely not recommended.

Stopped on the way back from Longleat, and ordered 4 x cod and chips. The portions were very big and the quality of the fish superb. My 5 year old grand daughter who is very fussy with food eat every bit of the cod and most of the chips.We all enjoyed the food and couldnt believe how reasonable the price was. The shop was very busy and I can understand why. If we lived locally we would be regulars for the fish and the chinese

Visited twice during our stay in Fordingbridge. Excellent both visits. Son s little disappointed they didn't do savaloy but was very impressed with the jumbo sausage. Well worth a visit.

Very nice, had the kung-fu posted chicken which could be spicier and my girlfriend had the vegetable chow mein which could do with being warmer. Apart from that, would definitely have again if we lived in the area

All the food is delicious. Chow Mein and Chicken Hong Kong style are my favourites, but it's all lovely and fresh. Would definitely recommend.

Reading some of the reviews here it seems like a different Chinese to the one I know. Meals I have had always great and I have tried plenty through the menu. Always busy at the weekend and it can be a very long wait. The fish and chips always seems reasonable, although I have't had that on too many occasions. Overall I can't complain

Trulied the takeaway. Chinese not English. Awful food. Didn't bother again. Suggest you don't. There's a chinese restaurant round the corner by the bridge but didn't go in but does takeaway. Try them first.

We picked up a takeaway from here this evening. The food was terrible. We eat Chinese food quite frequently and I know people have their preferences and favourites. However if you enjoy a Chinese takeaway this is not the place for you. We ordered 4 standard dishes from their menu, 1 of which was inedible. The only thing they got right was the rice. Not that I am from Fordingbridge and am only visiting for a week. I would urge any other visitors to eat else where.

After using this takeaway which is my local, for over 15 years I thought I would give it a review!! I have never had a dud meal from there in all this time. Great choice of Chinese, Fish & Chips available too. My only advice is plan ahead and don't go if you are in a hurry, not that they are slow, just extremely busy Fri & Sat and the phone is usually engaged, I don't believe all these people can be wrong, it is very popular with the locals.

The very best fish & chips can be bought from New Wongs. Freshly cooked while you wait.The Chinese is also excellent.

All I ordered was a Char Sui (pork) chow mein.... 7:30pm on a Wednesday night. The place had 5 people waiting, so was rammed compared to the other Chinese take away in Fordingbridge, which looked empty. I walked past it to get to New Wongs... Anyway, very tasty, super hot temperature, and totally filled me up... Nicely cooked, with the strips of pork being the perfect texture. I have no negative things to say. It looked really clean in there too...

Just what we fancied. Delicious Chinese and great Fish n Chips so we were all catered for. Pleasant and polite staff.

Always a wait to place order. Which I take as a good sign. Fish & chips is good quality. And portions are of a good size. Value for money.

Had two takeaways here, the first being good old fashioned fish n chips which was lovely. They only serve cod but it was well cooked, a reasonable size and very good value at £38 for 8 portions. The 2nd visit couldn't have been more different, just awful. The chips were again lovely and there was plenty..the portion sizes were big, didn't need a portion of rice each, 1 between 2 would've been plenty. The rice was ok but that's about it. We couldn't tell the difference between the Szechuan or Kung-Po chicken, neither were spicy or tasty and the chicken was borderline undercooked. Mum & Mum-in-law had the sweet & sour chicken breast which were inedible, there were 2 breasts in each portion but they were so hard you couldn't cut them. We would've complained but what's the point we are going home to Norfolk tomorrow (where we have a cracking Chinese takeaway). Not what we expected for a simple, basic Chinese for 60 Quid. Avoid unless you like cod n chips.

The juxtaposition of fish and chips and Chinese takeaway initially seemed odd but worked really well. My family and I were staying in a little cottage as a birthday treat to me in Fordingbridge and Wong's was just up the road. My youngest had sausage and chips and thoroughly enjoyed them. The rest of us got a set Chinese meal for 4. The portions were very generous and even though we were all hungry we couldn't eat all of it in one meal! There was a really good variety of dishes. The king prawns were especially good. I would definitely visit again as we hope to use the cottage again in the future.

Pancake roll contained only beansprouts - absolutely nothing else! Couldn't eat it and so had to throw it away. Likewise, the King prawn with spring onion and ginger, packed so full with sliced white onion that it also ended up in the bin alongside the pancake roll. Both dishes hugely disappointing. Luckily, I also ordered crispy aromatic duck - there's not much anyone can do to spoil it – so at least we had something to eat. NEVER AGAIN!

First time here food was good portion size could be a little bigger but was plenty for my family. Will be visiting again

We had Singapore noodles, which were very dry, and shrimp with black bean sauce, which was a very wet. Apparently, unlike American Chinese restaurants, the rice was extra. We didn't mind not having it, but it would have been nice if the clerk had asked if we wanted it. All in all, it barely met our hunger for one of our comfort cuisines.

Good find as F&C on site expensive. Helpful staff and the whole family enjoyed their food. Opens at 5.30pm. Also does Chinese. Very popular when we were waiting

Tried this take away twice while on holiday, First time we had fish and chips, well we found the batter but very little fish. Second we had a chinese meal, this was for five people and nobody could eat it. The chicken chow mein was the worse I have ever tasted, and the chicken and mushroom was more onion the anything. I would not consider 5 people to be fussy eaters but we all agreed it was not up to standard. We will not be eating there next year. I cannot believe the reviews some people have written.
