New Shapla Tandoori in Watford

Absolutely disgusted. I brought my mother to this place due to there affiliation with vibe radio station since they are always advertising through them. We ordered our mains as well as a side of poppadoms with the sauces and when we had finished and our table was in the process of being cleaned and removing the sauces from our table the Gentleman on the table near to us was given the mint sauce that I was using. I immediately pulled the waiter aside and said that was disgusting what he just done, I also notified the table he gave it to who had just used the sauce I had been using. The owner came over and had a go at me stating his staff would never do this, even when another table stated he just witnessed exactly what I had said.

The food was not that great and I ask for lamb curry and than ended up with very dark and hard meat and the owner slipped up and said it was goat meat , because I thought it was beef , they are using goat meat and saying it is lamb , and I still have to pay for the meal deal with got and they still charge me separate for the starter main and side when it is meant to come together .

If you want/need a good old fashion curry, this is the best place in Watford, NW London. Huge range of dishes and they all taste different, as they should. The staff are also amazing and will look after your every need, including off menu items. 10/10

By far the best curry house in Watford. You won't get a better selection or quality of food from any other Indian. Would highly recommend. The banquet deal also gives you a chance to try across the menu.

This place never fails to deliver great quality food. In all our family opinion so much nicer than the restaurant next door. Rather than walking by give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Simply the best indian in sheffeild

Quality is alright but some dishes are so very sweet, food is unedible, don’t order creamy dishes! My korma was simply drenched with sugar. Reconsider before ordering here!

If you have choices - and you probably do - you should probably consider them before eating here. Out of the three dishes we ordered, one was good, one was a way too sweet Tikka Massala dish and the third was even sweeter with dry, overcooked chicken. Plus points: Wheelchair accessible, reasonable prices, nearby parking.

Had the meal deal and I think I was over charged had 1 bottle of wine meal deal and it came to 83.00 a bit much 😞

The Dining started off fine until I spotted something unbelievable... This was heavy in COVID19 times where restaurants were opening back up after our second lockdown and I had taken my mother out for a birthday meal and whilst I was eating a poppadom dipping this into a mint sauce of which I put this aside once finished the waiter came to remove dirty plates before mains when a table beside us asked for more mint sauce and out of shock he took what we had on our table and gave it straight to them, I was gobsmacked and shocked that I felt I must be mistaken. The family started using the mint sauce as a dip, I checked his trolley to discover the mint sauce was gone that he just removed from my table. I told them what he had just done. I brought this up to the owner and kicked off with him and I was asked to leave after paying for what I had already eaten. Of course the family refused to pay at this point as I should have done also. And whenever I hear their adverts on Watfords 107.6 Vibe FM I cringe at the memory and always have to silence my car radio at the realisation its another ""NEW"" Shapla Tandoori advert.

We visited the New Shapla on 23rd December 2022. We enjoy Indian food and have eaten it in many countries including India. We had the Gourmet menu, starter, main, rice, side and coffee at a cost of £19.95. My starter was a mixed starter consisting of onion bajee, chicken tikka, lamb tikka. My husband chose tandoori fish. Both were large portions and delicious. Our mains were equally good along with our side dishes. I have no hesitation in giving this restaurant 5* . The food was excellent, the staff friendly and the Manager went out of his way to welcome us and to ensure we had an enjoyable evening.

I've said this before but we’ve never, ever been disappointed eating at the New Shapla and the owner, Karim, always comes over to have a chat and to ensure everything is in order. As usual the restaurant is well furnished and comfortable. Everything is always crisp and clean as are the toilet facilities. The menu choice is great and Babs, the head waiter, always seems to know what fabulous dishes we like best. It’s a great restaurant and we’ll definitely keep coming back. Thanks Karim and Babs.

A friend and I wanted to catch up and he recommended this restaurant. We arrived and discovered that the meal deal (Starter, main, side, with rice or naan) was still available and we went with that. Not particularly adventurous; kebab starter, lady fingers and dopiaza. The meal came promptly, well cooked and hot. The staff were attentive. What I did like was that the food was not loaded with salt. So could taste the spices. Very happy and a good price too.

Mixed tandoori was ok, despite being bit expensive for the amount given. Special Mixed biryani sorry to say the worst I have eaten… no salt, no taste,….not happy about paying £2.5 for small glass of coke, filled from a 2l bottle with no gas. Sorry to say that we won’t go again.

Have been a customer for 20 years, the last couple of meals have not been great, had a take away tonight…. Chicken tikka was disgusting, bland chicken madras curries, hardly no almond in peshwari naan, tarka dal was very watery and all food flavourless- will not be wasting my money again!! Called up to say it wasn’t very nice and to see if a new chef, he said no same chef, no apology, no discount or refund offered just said “nobody else has complained”.

We eat at the New Shapla fairly regularly since my friend John B lives close by. We’ve never, ever been disappointed and the owner, Karim, always comes over to have a chat and to ensure everything is in order. Our favorite starter is the Duck Tikka which is full of flavour and my favorite main is the Bengal Jalfrezi. But everything we’ve tried is excellent. (My mouth is watering as I type this). The restaurant is well furnished and comfortable. Everything is always crisp and clean as are the toilet facilities. What is most amazing is that Babs, the head waiter, has a fantastic memory and knows what we are going to order almost before we’ve decided!! If you are reading this, you’ve just got to try the New Shapla. You won’t be disappointed.

I've been dining here for many years, the whole experience is fantastic, the setting, the staff, the food and the prices. I have organised dozens of parties here for work and personal contacts. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

I have eaten Indian food in most parts of the UK & came in here on recommendation of a friend. The food could not have been better. Unlike many restaurants where the basic dishes taste much the same, the food here was superb! The dishes tasted really fresh & we're simply delicious. I used to live near Watford but moved to Norfolk over 10 years ago. There is nothing up there as good unfortunately. Next time I am in Watford I will definitely visit this restaurant again!

Attended here this evening. Food was decent. However another customer notified me that the sauce I had been given had been taken from his table and given straight to us without any kind of cleansing or replenishment. This is bad enough at the best of times but with recent COVID situation is today unexceptable. This will be reported to the council and licensing department but please for your own safety avoid this place at all costs.

Some price for sauces were charged without customer knowledge.

Poor and slow service. Waiters were rude and didnt even give us a menu. We waited a long time for the food and then after for cutlery.

Food was very good. All our party had something different to each other and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Hospitality was very good to. Prices were reasonable.

Takeaway. Everything we ordered was wonderful and arrived hot . Wil definitely order from here again.

It's was lovely! Opted for the £16.95 set meal option and did not disappoint. Chicken tikka very tasty as were all other dishes. Good choice for teenage vegetarian. Delivered on time. Fresh and went down well with a bottle of vino! Far better than the neighbouring Indian restaurant!

First time we ate in the Resturant and the service was alright but the food was tasteless and bland!Saw some friends who love shapla and decided to have a takeaway from shapla!When arrived - the food was cold, the rice was hard and crunchy and again the food was still BLAND......

Food absolutely delicious, service impeccable

4 of us had the special on a Saturday evening which comprised of starter, main. rice or nan, which we split between us, and a side and all for £16 or £2 cheaper in the week. All our meals we superb, staff were friendly. I tried something I hadn’t had before “Lamb Ginger Hot” and it was really tastyWe shall be back soon.

Beware of the massive price increase before you order I've been using the shapla for years but when I went place my usual order tonight which two weeks ago would have cost £28.30 I was informed by the waiter on the phone that they had a price increase and my usual order would come to £40.35 obviously I cancelled and ordered the same from the raj garden which came to £26.55 and turned up well before the 45 minutes they advised us and was pipping hot and to be honest much better than the shapla I will never order from them again.

The food was not great, i have had better food from the supermarket. Will not be going there again.

I wanted to put 0 stars because they don’t deserve any. Its was the worst Indian Food I have ever eaten, the staff wasn’t friendly at all he was hovering over us listening to our private conversation. And that’s was a bit rude. Because when he came to tablet he told us what we were saying which that’s rude .I should just have gotten a Sainsbury’s Indian or Asda because I enjoyed theirs more. I wouldn’t give this food to my dog 🐕 and when the bill came we asked for the manager because the food was horrible but he didn’t even came to speak to us at all what horrible place. 👎🏼

Great food. Really quick service. We really enjoyed our choices. Chrispy chicken starter was much tastier than it looked & the Onion bajhi was delicious. Chicken curry special, Aloo Gobhi mains were completely polished off by us. Definitely worth a visit. I'd recommend booking a table on busy weekend nights.

Had a great Friday evening meal here with my friends who live locally. I wanted to try next door based on favourable reviews but based on their experience came here, very glad I did.Set menu is a fantastic price and you get to choose any dish you fancy.Can't wait to come back.

The Peshwari rice is to die for, the best I and my guest have tasted. He had lamb cutlet tandoori - pronounced delicious; I ate the Shapla special Korma - also great!

We have been to this restaurant on a regular basis, after trying lots of different ones in Watford and surrounding areas. The new shapla tandoori has become our favourite. Food is delicious, not greasy and the price reasonable. Staff are always friendly and I can highly recommend it.

Went with my partner over Bank Holiday . Used to go there years ago. Thought we would give a try. Tasty food, great service. So much better than the one next door. Great new decor. Will be returning soon.

Arrived to a very empty restaurant at 7.30pm. Funny as next door was packed. So we all sat down and orderd drinks. Then was served cold tasteless popudums. After say 15 mins we still had popudums left to eat and the waiter tried to clear our plates away? This happend a good few times in the end I had to say we haven't actuly finished! This must have fallen on deaf ears as one half of our party had there plates taken before we had finished. Then we had the mains. Duck tikka. More like salted duck. It was so salty there was no taste of duck. Lemon rice was awful and the pershwarie rice had clumps of coconut. All in all very disappointed.

worse curry I’ve eaten,at least half went in the bin. Horrid,no flavour and both curry’s were the same sauce,watering and by time home the Paper bag had broken due to being wet. Avoid at all costs. To never return! Sorry..

Really good food. Really good deals during the week. We go at least once a month. You can take your food away as leftovers. Recommended. Update. Went the other day and got there at 7:30 and didn't leave till 11:30. Never seen such slow service. Seems they just wanted to make us wait and have drinks. Probably won't go back again after that. I never would have called this Thali and deliver it. An omelette would have saved my money. Shapla’s Thali should have been called just starch which fills your stomach and make you a fat farting person. Their Thali consist of Dhaal, Potato, Carrot, few peas and plain rice. The cheapest of cheapest ingredients used. They should be embarrassed to deliver and charge for this . Korma wasn’t bad. All the little tubs of stuff end up in the bin causing more environmental damage. Waste of time. Never will use this restaurant again.

My son and I were met at the door by a waiter who looked like he was having a bad day ... he never smiled and his greeting was on the aggressive side. Surely, you don't ask customers "what do you want?" in a gruff and unfriendly voice. Now, as for the food, I ordered a dry chicken tandoori and it came to the table sizzling in oil. I did not want oil on my dry tandoori chicken. Oh well, an experience best forgotten.

We had a few nights away in Watford so we visited this restaurant the food was very good. They where very busy, there was free parking just up the road so that was convenient too
