New Saffron in Breckland

Stayed nearby for a couple of nights and decided to try New Saffron. What a wonderful find! The staff were professional and friendly, the restaurant and toilets were very clean. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with poppadoms. The accompaniments were slightly different to usual but so nice. We chose from the specials menu. We shared a prawn starter. Our main courses were so tasty. The spices used were perfect. The meat was soft and tender. Lemon rice and courgette bhaji were great. It was a nice experience to have an Indian meal that was not dripping with grease. We had ice creams to finish and they were lovely too. 100% recommend this restaurant.

Quite possibly the best curry I've ever had. Service was brilliant, the food was outstanding. Great selection of authentic Indian dishes alongside the well known usual suspects. Very highly recommended.

I can't see how this place can get a bad or poor reference if you see a poorly rated review for this place then it's untrue or very underrated. The service is spot on and the food is what you ordered so no poor ratings needed

We had another wonderful dining experience thank you. The food was top quality and the service couldn't have been better. All staff are so efficient, friendly and very smartly dressed. This is a dining gem in Thetford and has become a family favourite. We celebrated a special birthday and will be back again soon. I advise you book ahead of your visit

Have eaten In and had many Take-aways over the last year and it has always been excellent. Every dish has a unique flavour rather than all tasting similar, as with some other Indian restaurants. The staff are friendly and helpful and the place is always clean and welcoming. Great food, great staff and a great atmosphere. Never been dissappointed with this restaurant. Highly recommend.

Stopped by Thetford for dinner on our way back to London and chose this place based on its high Google ratings. The food leans towards a milder and slightly sweeter profile, which the staff mentioned aligns with their regular customers’ preferences. Some dishes lacked seasoning, but the staff explained that they intentionally keep flavors subtle so diners can adjust them to their own taste (with table salt). This approach may work for some but might not appeal to those who prefer richer, more robust spices. Service was generally attentive, though discussions around feedback could have been handled more smoothly. The staff explained their reasoning, including that during Ramadan, chefs are unable to taste the food while cooking. While understandable, a more open approach to feedback—such as proactively offering adjustments or recommendations—could have made the experience feel more accommodating. The atmosphere was fine for a casual meal, but nothing particularly stood out. If you enjoy gentler flavors, this restaurant might be worth a visit. However, those looking for bolder, more traditional seasoning may find it underwhelming.

Best Indian takeaway I've had in years All dishes were spot-on. Atmosphere not rated because it was a takeaway - however, I did notice that it looked like a lovely place to eat-in.

All the food was so delicious, the manager /chef was very professional, he explained all the dishes served, really lovely staff .. All waiters were friendly.. Great price.. Big up Saffron restaurant.. On point.. Under 50 pounds for both of us..

Lovely restaurant where you can choose to sit in the well lit, airy and spacious room or dine in the more intimate and cosy room with a more relaxed ambience. Very polite, professional and attentive service from all the staff. Food is absolutely gorgeous, full of flavour and delicious and aromatic. Good portion sizes and very soft and tender lamb. Will definitely return.

This place serves some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. We ordered the tikka platter, prawn curry, and biryani. The prawn curry had dry prawns with shashlik ingredients and was completely bland, with no salt. The biryani also lacked salt, and both the BBQ and naan were overly sweet, almost as if they were filled with sugar. When we spoke to the manager, he made it seem like we were clueless and tried to justify everything, saying they cater to everyone’s needs and it’s not made for just one person. Interestingly, he even defended the sugar in the naan and BBQ. Another table also complained, but he was stubborn and unhelpful. I would suggest taking accountability for what you're serving and treating feedback with respect rather than being rude. I will definitely not be returning to this place.

Decided to pop in as heard some good reviews. I’m afraid to say my experience was different than many others. Prawn starter, 1 x prawn cut in half. Main course, looked like a steamroller had gone over the chicken as it was that thin and resembled chicken out a packet. If you’re looking for poor ingredients this is the place to go. Service was ok but watching the waiter chew gum like he was at a rave is quite off putting.

What a find! A fantastic sit in Indian offering all the classic curries you'd expect, along with some beautifully presented dishes that add a special touch. The food was full of flavor, perfectly spiced, and cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere, with attentive staff made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality Indian meal!

A valentines meal for my partner and I. We were not disappointed an amazing meal, service brilliant and at the end of the meal my partner was presented with a rose and a box of chocolates. A lovely place to dine will definitely be returning in the future.

Booked a table for 4 on Valentines evening, but not to celebrate Valentines. Poppadoms and chutney were a great way to start. We had 4 different tandoori dishes, rice, naan a chef’s chicken special and vegetable curry, all beautifully flavoured and fresh to eat. Portions were large. Service was great and even though we were not booked in for valentines, we all received a box of good quality chocolate and the ladies a rose. The restaurant was busy but we were fully accommodated and given the best of care. A lovely evening.

Had a wonderful meal at New Saffron. I’d recommend the lamb dansak- the best I’ve ever had! This is by far the best Indian not only in town but also in the entire area. You have to visit!

Exceptional food here on New Year's Day 2025. The lamb shank was tender and delicious, but also a nice gooey sag poneer, the best cauliflower baji I've ever had (just the right amount of bite left in the cauli), and even pillowy soft nans and really nice onion chutney with the popadums. All good!

I have just had the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. Lamb Methi was like salt gravy, no taste whatsoever other than salt. Ordered takeaway at 5pm, was told it would be with me within the hour, at 6:20 pm called to ask where it was and was told its out there somewhere, it won't be much longer, this was all said with a laughing in the voice. Food finally arrived at 7pm, delivery person told me she had just picked it up, but it was stone cold. This is not the first time I have been disappointed with a delivery, but rest assured it will be the last.

Ordered at 6pm to get my delivery after 7:30 and the food was not even warm and had to be heated up, asked for a part payment back to be told it was due to bad weather, didn’t realise light rain was bad weather. Normally food is fantastic but this was not great food or service.

Great food. First time ordering from New Saffron and it didn't disappoint. Quick delivery, friendly delivery guy. I received 2 poppadoms instead of 2 naan, called the restaurant, no problem, sent back out and delivered before I'd finished dishing up. Great Service.

After a long drive, and feeling hungry, we arrived on spec and were treated like long lost friends. The food was excellent. But more than that, we were invited to bespoke any dish we wanted. They clearly pride themselves on authentic Bangladeshi cuisine. Five stars Round! Defo coming back.

A fresh twist on classics that will have you wanting for more. Nice and simple menu that does the classics but with extra care and attention that I sometimes find lacking in other restaurants. Nice and spacious with ambience that sets the tone for a good night out. Overall a great choice when in and around the Thetford area

Had takeaway, food arrived luke warm was tasteless and the portion size was at best tiny,. So disappointing . Needless to say shall not order from here again

Superb. Service was exemplary. Not sure what the have so the waiter offered some advice. Obviously knew the menu very well and his suggestions were spot on. Food arrived promptly and was fabulous. We were very impressed with all aspects of our visit. Definitely on our list for a return visit.

Absolutely superb. Service was exemplary. Waiter offered to help choose our main courses as we were dithering a bit. A few questions and he made his suggestions. Both were spot on. Superb food, served quickly. Beautifully cooked and spiced. All of the waiters were very good and showed a desire to do a good job which is sadly missing from many restaurants. If I didn't live 75 miles away I'd be in here on a very regular basis.

Whilst visiting family in Thetford we had an evening meal . Fabulous! Service was great, staff very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, excellent produce and flavours. We all had different dishes and thoroughly enjoyed. I would highly recommend and hope we will visit again, many thanks (sorry not many pics as too busy eating) 👍

Unfortunately the food tonight was poor. There was no taste to the curry’s. My partner threw his in the bin and said he won’t be having it again. Such a shame as it’s normally very nice

We went today for the Sunday buffet menu - it was great - good service - freshly cooked, tasted lovely and super good value.

Absolutely incredible, now it's Saffron the place was packed out. So lovely to see it alive, brilliant service and gorgeous food with lots of really interesting stuff beyond the usual Anglo-Indian menu staples (they're there too, don't worry.). Recommend asking for the Chipon special (forgive my spelling, might be wrong.)

Unfortunately food wasn’t good this time , tikka masala and korma was too sweet all I could taste was coconut nothing more , couldn’t eat it .

We found this fabulous restaurant recommended on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed. They went above and beyond to make sure we got our food served in time, as we were running late for the Theatre. Food was so delicious, fresh and hot. All the staff were very friendly, with excellent customer service. We will definitely return if we ever visit Thetford again.

You will struggle to find a better Indian/Bengali restaurant in Norfolk. The staff are friendly and charming, the tables have crisp white linen and the drinks menu wide ranging. The food was really unique, the herbs and spices fresh and flavoursome. My chicken tandoor Kata had lovely fresh curry leaves, lovely medium spice sauce and delicious moist chicken pieces. Don’t go anywhere else for a meal in Therford!

Ordered a delivery from here while staying at Center Parcs, and we were absolutely blown away. We ordered two of the set menus for 1, and the person who took our order on the phone was very accommodating regarding making changes. The price was unbeatable and probably half the price of the Center Parcs curry house for double the amount of food! The delivery was exceptionally quick and the driver called us when he left so we knew when to head to the security gate on our bikes. The food was still piping hot when we got to our lodge and we were pleasantly surprised with portion sizes. We could not ask for better service and cannot recommend enough! (Please note that Center Parcs does not allow delivery directly to lodges :) )

Staying in the area for work for a couple nights so decided to try this place. I was very impressed, the service and food were both top notch. Decent price and one of the best curries I’ve had. If I lived close by this’d be a regular place.

Ordered from new saffron to try it as the other Indians are a bit iffy at times. Food was amazing. Delivered hot. I would defo recommend their rogan Josh and tikka masala!! Best I’ve ever tasted. Me and my partner were very satisfied with our take away. Oh also the delivery was fairly quicker than we got told it would be too.

Where to start.... We purchased a takeaway online and spent around £42.00 Went to the restaurant to collect and all seemed fine, the place looked nice and the staff seemed very friendly. Brought our food home, and that's when we realised the food was absolutely terrible. Balti chicken tikka was bland, watered down, and tasteless. So was the chicken tikka masala. No spice and definitely no flavour. The keema naans meat was a little funky. My cheese naan was chunks of cheddar folded in the naan. The only slight positive was the portion of onion bajhis. I really cant understand the positive reviews which is why we tried this place. What a waste of money.... won't be returning again.

We were met at the door and showed to our table by a very polite member of staff. The room was light and airy with lovely decor and aircon. We were given time to select drinks then food. Everyone we spoke with was helpful and polite. The food was amazing and the Chef came out to ensure the food was good and the heat of a dish was how we liked it. It was a great evening, a great food experience in a relaxed environment. We will be going back, thanks to you all in the New Saffron.

Amazing food, service and a very big WELL DONE to all charming staff. I tried the lamb shank and the meat just fell off the bone. Cooked with the onions, tomatoes and various spices, - absolutely delicious. Shipon, the Apple juice made the meal! 😜😜😜 A wonderful restaurant and it seems to go from strength to strength.

Very disappointing... the dishes were all sauce with very little meat... the prawn dish had 3 prawns in it for £13. Will be ordering else where next time

Food: Excellent. Delicious. Well paired flavours, generously spiced and garnished, made with fresh ingredients. Everything piping hot and well presented. The prices are actually on the low side considering the quality of the dishes. I recommend the lamb korai, which delivered amazingly tender and flavourful lamb pieces in a rich sauce. Service: Attentive waiting staff, not over-the-top friendly but perfectly professional. The owner, Shipon, was kind enough to explain some details about the dishes we were considering, and we were impressed that he was so happy to customise our dishes to suit our taste. He really delivered the personal touch, remembered our name and used it when speaking to us. Atmosphere: The restaurant is tastefully decorated and some simple background music adds a little atmosphere. The only reason I did not give five stars for this is because I felt a little on edge with the constant loud pacing of the floorboards by the waiting staff behind me. I felt that the constant walking back and forth looking for something to do was a bit of a mood killer for me. Would I go back? 200% yes.

Our first visit to the Saffron the food was very good what impressed me was the hot plates. Nice clean napkins and table cloths. The very nice manager came talking to us which we all enjoyed having a 😃 laugh. Will return. Good luck guys

Quite possibly the finest Indian food I've eaten outside of London. I've eaten many curries, sides and starters in my time and have also schooled myself extensively in making my own BIR style currys having researched and spent a great deal of time getting it (i hope!) just right. Eating at New Saffron last night reminded me once again why the pros are just that.. pros! My partner and I had a chicken dish from the chef's special menu and a lamb bhuna. The chicken was flavorsome with multiple of layers of flavour and a beautiful smooth finish. Delicious. The lamb was cooked to tender perfection, it was at a mouth melting level without a hint of fat or chewiness, the first time I have experienced this properly. Again depths and levels of flavour were astounding. Peshwari naan a personal favourite for both of us was simply outstanding and the lemon rice a perfect compliment to the two dishes. Plates and cutlery were clean, glasses clean and polished to perfection without a scratch or mark/smear in place. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the Head Chef who has taken over from his late father a force to be reckoned with. Young, passionate, knowledgeable and more than willing to generously share his knowledge and encourage others to try their hand at curry making. The kitchen was organised, clean and the chefs working in harmony with each other also. An absolute must visit for anybody in Thetford or Norfolk that is passionate about Indian food. The choice on the menu is vast, prices reasonable and service time speedy. 10/10 all round Danny
