New Rodney and Xin Chinese in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Always get our takeaway from here and always been fantastic so for our anniversary we decided to try the restaurant. It was a Wednesday so only ones there but there was a constant flow of take aways. Service great and food perfect. Will be back on our next occasion

Ordered a Chinese for collection. Was told it would be ready in 15-20 and was ready sooner.. they rang to tell us and we said we would be there in less then 10 minutes to collect. They kept our food lovely and warm and even remade the chips for us so they were fresh and hot. All the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered chips, duck and pork fried rice, salt and chilli chicken and crispy chicken in garlic sweet chilli sauce and everything was really tasty. Was also reasonably priced, would eat here again. Would definitely recommend.

The food here is amazing .A little off the beaten track although right in the centre of Saltash, a very relaxed setting with a decent car park. Just lovely to sit outside in the sun and have a drink together before eating it or while waiting for a takeaway. Highly recommend the Rodney…or the Nee Rodney as it is called.

Take out Chinese. Reasonably priced and food is quite good but sometimes better than others occasionally spot on so maybe chef changes?, fried noodles were a bit greasier this time than usual but overall quite good and we keep returning. Friendly staff and quick service, lightening quick on this occasion must have had pre-cooked.

This is a horrible place. The food was disgusting and the decor, cleanliness and ambience were awful. Staff were inattentive and rude.

Had a meal in the restaurant on a Thursday, staff are very polite and the food was lovely and came out very quick as well as a lovely view to go with the experience. Would definitely recommend!

Got a takeaway from here 13th May 2023. Absolutely disgusting, greasy, burnt, flavourless. Threw the majority of the food away. Avoid its horrible

Tasty meal, not too much msg started at £10.30 for amain course and egg fried rice an extra £4.50 a mixed starter for 2 people was £15. I found the prices a bit on the steep side compared to home. Although the takeaway side seemed to be busy, we were the only customers in the restaurant. Would maybe have a takeaway next time to save some cash

Had a lovely set meal, absolutely delicious. Huge helping. We were served by a young waitress Molly who was superb. If we are ever in the area again then we will definitely come back.

This is our go to takeaway treat. We love the chow mein dishes and crispy chilli chicken in particular. Food is always piping hot and great quality. We look forward to dining in soon now covid regulations are beginning to lift

Can never understand why people drive into Plymouth for a Chinese when we have one equal to any in the city here in Saltash. Great views up the Tamar, friendly, efficient staff and an extensive menu. Every dish we have tried has been well cooked, tasty and plentiful. Very reasonably priced drinks as well, what more could you want? Its a regular for us both for take away and sit down.

We visited for dinner as we were staying in a Travelodge close by and wanted to grab dinner somewhere in walking distance.We had a beautiful meal. They offer a children's menu, which my son had, and he really enjoyed.My husband and I had mixed hors d'oeuvres which were really tasty (the satay chicken had a slightly spicy sauce which was delicious).My husband had a really good wanton soup (sounds like a small thing to mention but the wantons were really full and the soup itself was very tasty).Our mains were really great - especially the sizzling beef which came spitting hot and full of flavour.The home made dumplings from the specials mens were gorgeous.Our waitress was fantastic: very attentive and prompt with everything. She made an effort to chat to our son, and was extremely warm and welcoming.Would definitely recommend and revisit if in the area again.

A very good meal, very tasty and wonderful staff who could not do more to make it a good place to eat. First impressions of the entrance is not as you might expect but once inside the restaurant is very good. The menu is extensive and includes British and Italian options so covers all tastes. Service is quick and the food superb. Lots of choice and daily specials.

My partner & I went for a meal on a rainy sunday evening, I'd heard mixed reviews about Xin so wasn't expecting anything amazing. Although the restaurant is dated, the service was excellent very friendly the food was a touch on the pricey side but worth the money, large portions served in quirky wooden pots with lids for the rice & noodles. Food was hot & fresh and well cooked. We'd definitely eat here again.

Me and my family eat here quite often as it’s a close option for a restaurant, the staff are friendly and polite and the service is relatively quick, the menu has an excellent amount of choice, all being unique, but also offers English meals for people who don’t particularly enjoy Chinese food, furthermore, even though it’s quite pricey, the food is good quality and worth the price, my only negative is the atmosphere, unfortunately the restaurant isn’t that popular, and most the time, me and my family are the only people in there, but overall it’s a good place to eat, would recommend.

Ordered from here for the first time as everyone recommended it to us and was the nicest Chinese we’ve had! The salt and pepper chicken was great and not too spicy like others places I’ve ordered from before. Would definitely order again soon!

We decided on a take away. I can honestly say that it's the best Chinese food we've had. You won't be disappointed.

Family gathering, 30+ sat down for dinner. Staff were on point and worked hard all evening to ensure we were all looked after. Food was really lovely. What was left over was boxed for takeaway. The staff did a really good job and we all had a lovely night.

We had family down who wanted to visit the big blue Chinese restraunt for dinner. I don’t normally write negative reviews but no choice in this case.We didn’t book and it was busy when we first arrived. The staff were very friendly, we got served pretty quickly, no one explained there would be a wait for food but this was expected as the restraunt was busy and it was a rare evening out for myself and son (9) on a Saturday night so happy to enjoy a relaxing evening, unfortunately that’s where the positives end.It took a while for the starters to come, there was no frills, ganrnish and the sharer starter at round £14 was stingy to say the least, the food was plain and defiantly not value for money, but hay ho we carried on.At the point of the starters the restraunt emptied, there was only a handful of tables left if that, yet the staff were running around like headless chickens, it was obvious that the takeaway side was very busy.We arrived around 19:30 at 21:00 we still had not had our main meal! We asked for a drink that took over half an hour to arrive also. We asked the lady who was serving what was happening as it was getting too late for my child to eat, she advised that chef was busy (4 occupied tables in the restraunt at this time), we said that we were happy to leave the mains as it wasn’t worth waiting any longer but she came back and advised that chef was making our meal now, we didn’t want to rude or waste the food made so we stayed. She advised that our drinks would be waved as a good will gesture and asked if we wanted another round (only 1 drink was taken as we had lost enthusiasm really).The meal arrived and again nothing special, we had to ask for folks and we didn’t get given any plates but at this point really could not be bothered to ask. It was funny as the table behind looked like they were having a lovely time but they hadn’t been waiting as long as served and food quickly and had plates so they could share there meals etc...Then it came to the bill! 3 adults and a child ( my son had a portion of boiled rice only at just short of £4). The bill came to £70 wow that was one expensive meal to say we had minimal, tasteless food consisting of 2 starters (one was a sharer, 3 meals and 3 sides) and drinks removed!We had a total of 2 gins, 2 pints of thatchers and a lime and soda yet charged for double of this, yet the bar staff couldn’t understand that we had not had these drinks, the glasses were on the table to prove what we had had. The bill got changed to take 1 round of drinks off (so that would be 1 pint to pay for _ yet drinks waved doesn’t normally mean that you pay for drinks??) the bill came back again with DRINKS still on the bill, this was then explained again to the lady at the bar, the bill for the third time was brought back with yet another drink we hadn’t had on it! The staff still couldn’t understand that they had over charged us for drinks that we had not had, in the end we paid the bill yet charged for drinks that we had not had and the experience was shocking!We would never return and I live round the corner from the place, our one night out for dinner ruined and not even a care by the restraunt staff, it was obvious that tables were worthless compared to the takeaway yet who has a takeaway costing over £70?Maybe if we would have called to place a takeaway whilst waiting we would have eaten at a reasonable time?

We visited this place to get a takeaway and the food was disgusting. I regret not taking the food back as it appeared to be refried leftovers from the night before. Please go to the far superior Super Bowls in Fore Street

We visit here quite frequently as a family and have never had a bad experience. The staff are all friendly, the menu is so extensive you can have something different every time! the food is quick and tastes amazing. Unfortunately most of the business seems to come from the takeaway side of the restaurant, however that means there is pretty much always somewhere to sit if you want to eat in! And we have also ordered takeaway there which was just as good.

We went there for a birthday and we had a brilliant time, the waitresses did a fabulous job and the food is served fresh and hot from the kitchen. Don't be put off by the entrance as the service you have is like you've gone into a top 5* one.They are very quick with the orders and will make sure everything is what you expect or what you'd like to make you feel comfortable! Don't be put off with the comments from before, never judge a book by it's cover!!

Easily the best chinese in Saltash, food is always spot on and ever too greasy like chinese can be. They are always good at making dishes vegetarian or GF if they aren't already. The delivery service is always good, they even bring dog chews for our two dogs :). I wouldn't order from anywhere else.

Have lived in saltash for 20 years and never visited the New Rodney since it became a Chinese. Wasn’t sure what to expect but have to say the food was really good with big portions and the team that served us were very good. Worth a visit

Because they thought we were not local because of our accent we were served dregs for our meal. Not a way to treat customers.

Llamamos en el Rodney, en el camino a casa una noche forca y decidimos comer en el restaurante. Se olvidaron de nuestra entrantes y por el precio que pagamos es un buen trabajo que hicieron. Pero por otro lado un martes hacen un curry y...

Nos alojamos en un camping local (Parque) en agosto Dolbeare 2016 y tenía una comida para llevar china entregado muy sabroso en el lugar dentro de los 30 minutos de ordenar por teléfono. Los miembros del personal de entregar la comida para llevar era educado y agradable y el tamaño de las porciones eran aceptables. Recomendaría el dulce y agria pollo n pelotas curry platos especiales.

He hecho una revisión hace poco pero recientemente volví a celebrar otro cumpleaños en la familia. Siempre nos dan un servicio maravilloso pero la guinda del pastel esta vez fue que era mi cumpleaños, pero él no había cobrado su teléfono y esperaba una llamada de video de su hermano en el Lejano Oriente. El camarero Paul notó que mi frustración padres y fuimos y conseguimos un cargador para él, sin embargo, el tapón estaba lejos, así que él corrió a su auto y nos dieron un banco de energía muy pijo así que mi padre podía cargar su teléfono. Paul incluso, le pedimos prestado un extra largo así que mi hermano podía vernos refuerza todos alrededor de la mesa. El personal realmente hace todo lo posible para que todos los aspectos de la comida una para recordar. Al salir de mi padre trató de dar una propina, pero Pablo insistió en que pasó en mi hija (obviamente de mi nieta) así que nos fuimos y nos trajeron una construir una Bear y llamado después el camarero, Paul. Si no han sido recomiendo encarecidamente que te vayas, ya que cada vez tenemos más impresionados que son.

Decided to give the takeaway a second chance after having an salty meal the first time. Tonight my husband and myself had sweet and sour king prawn Hong Kong style. The sweet and sour sauce was awful. No sweetness at all just vinegar. In fact there was so much vinegar it made my eyes sting! If it wasn't the end of a long busy day we would have returned it. Suffice to say we won't be back.

A clean environment, good and friendly service and food that was outstanding in quantity and quality. Not your standard Chinese, but full of surprise and quite delicious. Recommended without reservation. Don't be put off by the shabby exterior of the The Rodney itself.

Went here for a family birthday. First impression was a little dubious as its set in a separate lounge area of a pub. Nothing to look at from the outside but as soon as you walk in through the door the aromas of freshly cooked food hits you. Great views over the estuary. The menu is fairly extensive and prices are a little high birdie the quality of the food and to have freshly prepared flavoursome food well worth every penny. Drinks are average with pints from £3.45 to wines from £14. Starters average at £4-£5 and mains from £8-£10. Can highly recommend the spicy triangles prawn toast and spicy slated chicken as staters. The wandering dragon special was delicious as was the beef chow mein. All food was piping hot and tasty and made with fresh fish meat and veg rather than processed food. Would go again and can't wait to try some other dishes on the menu. Don't judge a book by its cover and give it a try - so glad we did. 4 people one bottle of wine and 4 pints. 4 starters and 4 mains + rice for 3 = £92 if that helps

One of the best Chinese meal we have had in a while. They are friendly always willing to help with any changes. Would recommend.

Just had takeaway, Vegetable Chowmein, Chicken Chowmein and a Chicken Curry, they were excellent. One of the best takeaways we have had for a long time will definitely be going back.

We regularly visit the restaurant and enjoy the food and service very much. Family from London and the Midlands have also visited with us and agree this is a very good restaurant.

Me and my family was looking for a new take a way, even tho we live in Plymouth, we now go to Saltash to get it from here because the foot is outstanding. We have now had several family get togethers at the restaurant and was blown away by the friendly staff. Nothing's to much trouble for them.

Simply one of the best Chinese takeaways I have had in a long time. This place came recommend by a local chef who knows about good food. Local delivery service within 3 miles was only a few quid and food came faster than informed when order was placed. The only place we will order from from now on.

Six of us had our Christmas do here last night - the food, as always was very delicious & tasty & plenty of it! Service was excellent & very friendly. All in all it was a perfect, fabulous evening - I can certainly recommend it 100%! Thankyou Meiia & all your lovely team!

We ate there last week and although the food was fine and plentiful it was too expensive for what we got and for this reason, we will not go back in too much of a hurry.

The bar is great, it is spacious with a choice of tables or bar stools, the prices are fair, the staff are friendly and the place is clean (especially the toilets.) The Food from the Xin is lovely. We often get a take away from here and haven't been disappointed yet. My one complaint would be that when they deliver, they always say it will be a 40 minute late but i've had it arrive less than 5 minutes after the call so bare that in mind and make sure you're to eat when you phone them (just in case)

Modern pub, with one large bar.area; nothing remotely attractive but staff and local clientele are friendly.Beers are mass market appeal, nothing more nothing less.They have pool, darts and Sky tv.Would I go back? No.

We had a takeaway from Rodney's, it was ready for us to pick up, the food was hot and excellent, there was so much of it, for the price it was amazing. Highly recommend The Rodney.

We were camping out at Landrake at Dolbeare park and food orders can be delivered to the campground.We all enjoyed supper that evening without having to do the dishes.Hot and tasty.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant , mainly for family events. The food is always great, good value, and Mia is a very welcoming owner. Often seems less busy than you would expect, but a lot of takeaways are catered for.

Have been using this takeaway/delivery service for about 3 years now. Never EVER had a disappointment until the last time. Phoned them when I tried my favourite dish and it was unacceptable (dry). This time? They automatically have discounted the dish that was poor previously. When I phoned this time (we do a Chinese about once a month) they already had my discounted dish on file. Am hopeful that their dishes will be up to their usual. Will post results accordingly.

I dined at this restaurant with 11 of our family and the food and service was excellent. The restaurant was very clean and the food was yummy. The crispy duck pancakes were my favourite. There was plenty of choice on the menu. The bill was a little pricey, but that is comparing it to Australian Chinese restaurant prices, but the food was so delicious it was worth every pound we were charged. I would not hesitate to eat here again on my next visit to see my family.

You are hardly spoilt for choice for restaurants in Saltash. This is half pub and half restaurant. It has a great view and you can have a pint and a game of pool next door in the pub after your meal.The food was excellent, plentiful and tasty. There is also a great view across the river Tamar.

I walked into this establishment only to be coldly greeted by the owner. She appeared extremely bored and the way I was greeted made me feel like I was putting her out by asking if I could eat in (despite there being no others in the restaurant).The food did arrive quickly and was very good quality and an enjoyable meal, however I could not enjoy it as for the most part the owner was glaring in my direction for a reason I could not fathom! I also did not get the dish I asked for, because the variation I asked for allegedly "cost extra" and when I said that was fine and asked how much, she merely said "Oh, I don't know", causing me to give up and just have the original dish on the menu. The food was rather expensive, and while it was very nice, I felt the prices did not match the food. I was still eating my meal when the owner approached me with the bill and said "You pay now?" quite haughtily, standing over me in a way I found really rather uncomfortable!It is a pretty place, with a lovely view and nice food, but really, really not worth it. I may return, but if the owner is serving, I won't hesitate to leave.

I would start by saying we enjoyed our meal, but more of that later. There's no disguising what the Xin is - a Chinese restaurant in a pub, and not a particularly nice pub at that. It probably has lovely views over the Tamar, but we went in the evening. The building itself is just a nondescript seventies (?) flat roofed brown brick straight sided single storey lump, and as such is pretty devoid of character. But you can't judge a book by it's cover. Sadly though, the interior reflects what the exterior suggests it might be. Basically, it's what was once a pub with two bars, but is now a pub with one bar and a restaurant. The restaurant is very neutral - there are no warm colours used to any great extent - everything is beige and light grey, and the lighting levels are pretty high. The use of richer colours and better use of light, perhaps say the use of wall lights rather than bright ceiling lights, would improve the space immensely. We visited mid evening on a Friday - we were one couple, and there was just one other couple in the dining. Considering the size of the restaurant, this was a surprise - it is quite a large space. The menu was quite extensive, but we felt a little overpriced for where we were. As a consequence, we shared a mixed starter for two and a Gan Shei dish, with one portion of soft noodles. This was sufficient for us, as my partner is not a big eater. Price-wise though, we didn't feel that the value was there. If I've remembered correctly, I think the mixed starter for example was £12.80. Elsewhere we've had similar but at a much more reasonable price. My partner had a couple of glasses of house wine, and since I was driving, I had a pot of Chinese tea - at £3.50 a pot !! I don't ever recall paying more than £1.50 before for the same thing. The whole bill was very close to £34, a lot of money for what was little more than a meal for one. I know there are places you can pay very much more than this for a meal, but I would not have expected to pay that much in a place like this. That said, the food itself was very good. We enjoyed what we ate, and felt it compared very favourably with other restaurants in the area. One thing though that definitely would have made it even better would have been some means of keeping the food warm. It was hot when it arrived, but the serving plates and bowls quickly cooled and there was nothing provided to help keep them warm. I noticed in the corner of the restaurant there was a stack of the two handled metal hot-plates that you often see, but these were not being used, probably because there were only four people dining. Service was reasonable, although to some extent the staff seemed bored and inattentive. To sum up then: atmosphere - none really, food - good, in fact the main course was excellent, value for money - not very good. I just can't make up my mind about this place. Clearly from reading other reviews lots of people like the place, which makes me question whether I'm being too harsh, but I don't think so. It's just not a place that I feel drawn back to. Maybe to be fair we should give it another try sometime.

My favourite is the honey chilli chicken, but all dishes we have tried are just what we expected. My daughter prefers the usual sweet and sour chicken, but I love the soft fried noodles and always order 2 and use them later in the week. Takeaway is my preference as the setting and atmosphere of the pub is akin to having a Chinese in a bar ... not really most peoples' idea of going out for a Chinese? Just my reluctance to do that, I would rather go to a proper Chinese restaurant for that.

I eat in this restaurant very often with my family. My husband and I usually eat here with our 3 children (4.7,10). The restaurant staff are very friendly and welcoming to us in the restaurant. The food is exceptional, I have eaten around the world and I can easily say the food here is easily some of the best food I have every tried,lots to choose from and the dishes always come out hot and out of what we have tried have all been extremely tasty! The portions are big aswell which is brilliant, sometimes we cannot eat all of our food and so the staff will put it in containers for us to take home with us! If it is a special occasion (such as; we went to eat there for my husbands birthday) an ice cream dessert (plenty to choose from) was brought out with a candle on top and the staff had put "happy birthday" song on, this was a lovely surprise!! The service is very good, being asked if everything is okay, if we would like anything else and if we have had to ask (because it has been busy) the request is always dealt with in a quick manor. It is brilliant having a bar next door as we'll often go in there before hand to have a game of pool etc. definite value for money. Thank you to Meiia and all the staff that work in the new Rodney.

I live in this town and have eaten here 3 times. It's ok if there are no other options around or if you particularly want Chinese.The food is fine, nothing actually wrong with it but it is distinctly average - about what you'd expect from a takeaway.The attitude to young children isn't particularly welcoming, mine are well-behaved 6 & 8 year olds who are accustomed to eating in restaurants, nevertheless there was a distinct 'seen and not heard' vibe from the owner.The worst thing was the extremely noisy bar next door. There is an open connecting door between the two bars and there was a band playing. There were no other customers on our last visit and few on previous visits.The view from the windows is nice though.

Our first time in the Rodney and we were impressed, the decoration was lovely, the staff very friendly and the food was absolutely divine, In my year I have had a lot of Chinese meals, this one far exceeds everything!

We have visited this restaurant on several occasions and the service and quality of food has been consistently good.The restaurant is family run and features food from many different areas, including Thai and Chinese.Good atmosphere, ample protions and reasonably priced.

The food is wonderful and the new presentation style is beautiful. For those who have Coeliac Disease or are just gluten intolerant there are gluten free options available. Staff are always very friendly. Wide ranging menu and the restaurant prices are very reasonable.

All the staff are lovely and always take the time to make me feel welcome. always busy in the restaurant and takeaway as its popular in the Saltash area, so would recommend placing your order on the phone before you collect. visited the restaurant last weekend for my sister's birthday with the family, food was excellent fresh and tasty meal, good sized portions and as always great service. lots of choice from the menu with some traditional Chinese dishes too, so look out for the house special dishes on the black board. after the meal we decided to move on to the bar to play a few games of pool and darts which was a great end to are evening

Went to watch Joker play. Great night. All the staff were dressed up as it was a Halloween party and really got into the spirit of the evening. Have been back since and while quieter than other local bars it's a friendly atmosphere and there's no trouble. Food is great too and nothing seems too much trouble for the restaurant staff. Can't wait for the next band night on Boxing Day evening!!

moved to Saltash 18 months ago and have tried and tested all the pubs in Saltash, not only does this pub serve the best Guinness, the food is first class as well, with good sized portions and always served hot not warmed through and you can eat bar side as well, both the restaurant and bar staff were pleasant and helpful, they actually convinced me to try Chinese food for the first time in my life and I am eternally grateful I would highly recommend you visit this pub for a meal or just a drink

We eat here regularly and believe more people should know about it and visit. The food is always good with large portions and plenty of choice.It is cooked to order so always fresh and Michael is always willing to adapt the ingredients [no chilli!].Michael and Mia always give you a warm welcome and the other staff are friendly and attentive.The restaurant also has a good 'take away' which is very popular. The best 'chinese 'in the area.

We have used this restaurant many times -eat in and take away, have tried other take away in the area and feel this is the best. Food is very well presented . Mia & Michael are always keen to try out new dishes and are eager for us to try them - they have recently started to cook lamb kebabs (not in pitta though)but is delicious & very spicy, ideal with the spicy chips they make after a few pints!We have had many family& work parties in the restaurant . It is always best to book if you have a large party so that Mia can arrange to have sufficient staff at handWe are never disappointedWe really like the Chinese music in the back ground it sets the atmosphere.

We have been using Xin Chinese for some time now, great décor, excellent food and really friendly and helpful owners and staff. It seems to be quiet when we go, which is admittedly usually mid week , but this is great for us, as the owner chats and spends time with seemingly nothing being too much trouble. If you are looking for a great meal in the Saltash area, this place takes some beating. Great takeaways too, which seems to be the busiest part of this excellent restaurant. Love it!

We regularly visit this restaurant as it is definitely the best in the area! We are always greeted very warmly by all the staff & always have an excellent meal with very generous portions & very attentive service. We have had many birthday celebration meals there - with parties of upto 18 guests - & always appreciate the extra mile that they make to ensure that everyone has a really great evening - especially the "happy Birthday" song & birthday cake!! The menu is very comprehensive & suits every taste (even English food for those who prefer!). It is always a lovely evening with delicious food - whether it just for 2 (as last night) or a bigger party. Keep it going & don't change anything please!

Not the greatest location but the food at this place is second to none. Lots of local Chinese restaurants have changed to buffet style and the food quality just isn't there but this food is fantastic.

Came in for a meal. Restaurant was very busy. Waitresses were great. Despite having nearly all the tables full that night. They ensured we were ok and had drinks while apologising for any delays due to being exceptionally busy. As all the food is prepared fresh we understand that service is not a fast as some of the other places locally. We didn't manage to eat all the food we ordered and they were happy to package it up so we could take it home.

Pleasant barmaids. Good beer. Good Chinese food, went in for takeaway but they were happy for us to eat it in the bar when we decided we wanted to stay longer, even gave us forks. Would recommend a visit.

Have made a couple of visits to the restaurant with friends, and have found the food very nice with friendly staff. while enjoying the lovely view of the river Tamar. Hope this helps anyone.

visited here for first time as part of a large party, found the staff very helpful and friendly, food was delicious, ordered the mixed starter and it was very fresh and cooked to order whole table enjoyed starters, mains were hot and didnt wait long dispite their being other tables and they obv run a very successful takeaway as the phone was ringing alot, but the waitress staff didnt forget about us and kept asking if we was ok for drinks, I would recommend this resturant as its one of a kind as you can sit in the bar and drink and play pool and be in a very british atomsphere and then come next door and sit and enjoy a chinese in a chinese themed resturant, served by chinese staff, previous reviews were misleading and im glad i gave it a chance for myself as me and my party will def be returning again,

Visited the restaurant for a family meal, there were 21 of us who prebooked and were sat two separate tables. We were the only customers in the restaurant for a sit down meal on a Friday evening. They would not allow bar tabs an insisted all visit the bar individually, and as card payment is a minimum of £10 this is somewhat frustrating. When approaching the bar I found the owner very short and unfriendly in response to an enquiry in reference to a bar tab.All guests had arrived and seats taken within 15 minutes of booked time. It took an hour from the scheduled booking for the manager to come and take meal orders. When the food was distributed the waitress service was found to be very friendly and polite. However it took 45 minutes for all to receive their food, with rice and mains being delivered up to 20 minutes apart. They also confused orders in multiple occasions. If I had not known better I would have assumed this was a very new restaurant,not one that has been operating for years.My chicken dish was of a decent portion, though smaller than I would expect for the price. My partners prawn dish had 6-8 prawns and sauce. We both finished our meals feeling hungry.My partner and I ordered 2 mains and 2 orders of rice, when only one portion of rice arrived I requested a second. After birthday cake had been distributed, and plates cleaned I approached the bar for my bill and discovered I had been charged for 3 orders of rice, upon explaining what had happened the manager told me that the first order had been two portions of rice. I challenged this stating that the first and second portions had been exactly the same, and she just looked at me. I then cleared my bill and left.I would not recommend this restaurant, or opt to visit it again. The food is what you would expect for a Chinese take away but marked up massively (around £3-£5 more just to eat in), and there is nothing exceptional about this restaurant. The manager is impolite, the service is poorly structured and there are far better pub and restaurant meals in the area.The Ploughboy, Superbowls or either of the Indian restaurants on the Fore Street in Saltash (Saltash Tandorri and the Blue Moon i think) are of a similar price range but far exceed the restaurant on food quality, quantity, ambience and standards.

We have been to this restaurant many times over the past few years and had ok meals!! We last attended for a Christmas get together and I have to say that I will normally eat anything except for Fish but some of the food they served was discusting and I would not serve to an animal!!! They even cut the portion sizes as they thought they would get away with it as we were a large group and had a few drinks!! Never again unless it was under new management!!!!

went to meet cousin for lunch on arrival was told that they don't do lunch times any more.disgusted after travelling 40 miles.

Always a lovely meal each time we vist. Have tried pritty much all the others in the area, would definitely recommend. Has polite and likeable staff, so would happily recommend.

We decided to have a New Years Eve meal at a chinese restaurant with friends and booked up at the Rodney as it was local. We arrived at about 7.30 where we ordered drinks. These arrived about 10 minutes later. We waited 20 minutes for our order to be taken where we had to choose from 2 set meals only, A or B. We chose one set meal A for 3 @ £24.99 per head and one set meal B for 3 @ £27.99 per head because there were 6 of us. This was to give some variation to share between us all. The soup took 60 minutes to arrive and came in 3 10 minute stages. The second course took another 30 minutes to arrive, the plumb sauce, followed by the deep fried starters, the duck to have with the plumb sauce arrived 20 minutes later!! We waited another 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. By now we were so cheesed off we asked for the remainder to be packed up in a takeaway, which took another 20 miutes. This not so pleasant experience cost us £190!!!!! When we got home there was only 1 tub of rice and 1 tub of noodles FOR 6 OF US!!! We contacted the restuarant where they told us that the order was correct, RUBBISH, the menue should have come with fruit for afters, there was none!!! The table behind us had a similar experience and left with their takeaway about 20 minutes before. The staff commented that they had a run on the takeaway side of the business. The restaurant guests should take priority not takeaway!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

So we after a long search thought what a way to finish 2012 with our family and friends with a meal in a local restaurant / pub . We booked and then well what a shambles, we arrived eventually got the first course albeit in three waves.1 hour later and two drinks later we started to get third course. Being a diabetic the length of time between meals was making things very difficult so in the end we asked for our main and sweet courses to be made yUp and we would take them home. So this happened and when we unpacked them another shambles not enough food was given to us we phoned aOnly to be told NO you can not have anymore and then we asked for them to reconsider no came the answer. Well you know where we will not be going again or ever and by the way we were not the only ones who spent over 2 hours waiting for what was a Chinese take away in a resuarant!!

We do not write many reviews but feel so strongly about our experience we feel people need to know. We travelled from Bristol to spend NYE with our parents and god parents. The Rodney is at the top of the close and seemed like a good idea at the time. The main restaurant has 11 tables - enough to be able to deal with efficiently even in the busiest if times you would think. The menu was very limited, comprising of menu A and menu B - both fixed one slightly more exotic. The service from the drinks waitress was great. The service from the food waitresses was poor at best. Our table was booked for 1900. It took 1 hour for our soup too arrive from ordering, this came in three sets with about ten minutes in between. The second course took a further thirty minutes to arrive, first the plum sauce arrived for the crispy duck, then the deep fried starters then after we had finished the starter the duck eventually arrived. I'm sorry but this is utterly appalling. We regularly visit out local chinese restaurant and it takes them 10 minutes from ordering and have at least 30 covers.At the point of waiting a further 40 minutes we requested that the remaining (main course) be taken away. This then took another 20 minutes. The bill for our trouble ... £190. But we did get three free calendars for our trouble...We get home only to find that we were given a single rice and a single noodles for six people, a call giving them a chance to rectify the mistake was met with them telling us we had the correct order. The fixed Manu included desert, this was also missing.I hope that the people visiting Saltash, and those that already live here will take this I heed.
