NEW RENDEZVOUS CHINESE in Northumberland

We took visiting friends from Canada for a midweek dinner. We all thought the food and service was excellent and will be returning soon.

We were staying at The Diamond so on a wet night it made sense to pop next door for dinner. We had the special meal on offer for the quieter nights of the week and very good it was too. There were two youngsters serving both well supervised by a very efficient lady in charge. Turning to the food, this was excelent and perfectly presented. Not cheap but good value nevertheless.

Takeaway order was delicious. The food was cooked and delivered very quickly. Will definitely visit for a sit down soon. Really friendly over the phone as well.

Its a nice and traditional restaurant with a very welcoming staff. The environment is great and food is very tasty. Its a good place to go with a friends as well for a night out.

It was my first time to visit New Rendezvous . This is the best Chinese food i have ever had. The staff is very friendly . Highly Recommend.

We have been here before and the food was lovely, not sure what happened, either different chef of using left overs, came for a booking at 3pm on Sunday 18th February, they didn't open the doors till after 5 past , when I rang to say we were standing freezing outside. Only thing nice was the soup, our chicken ( no'66 ) was dry and the side of chips we ordered , looked like yesterday's re-cooked, the mango dish was very vinegary, not nice at all, wasn't till after we found out that we should have been offered a Sunday lunch time offer menu, we paid £98 for 3 people , it was not worth this at all ,will not be returning, such a shame

We have been before to this restaurant and the food was lovely, however it was some time ago. We were looking for Sunday lunch and as the restaurant opened at 3.00pm on Sunday we decided to give it a go. Wish we hadn't bothered, deep fried chicken breast, deep dried more like, resting in cold soy sauce. No moisture at all in this chicken. Tiny bowls for the soup although there was enough for two bowls, even so not much. The only thing I enjoyed was the fried rice, I was hungry. The three of us were really disappointed, even the chips weren't nice I'm told.

We had takeaway rather than sit-in. The dish I had was tasteless and the chicken had freezer burn. The other dish was very vinegary too. Was very disappointing, and for the price (nearly £30 for two dishes!).

been there at least 6 - 8 times over the last 6 months and always had good food, The staff were very frendly and lovley atmosphere with good service. Would definitely recommend. Had starter and main and bottle of wine price reasonble.

Returned once again with a group of friends and as usual we weren't disappointed. We Love the huge variety of food which is always excellent quality. The staff were also so friendly and polite. Thank you again for a fabulous night and we will be back again soon. It was definitely worth the journey. Just wish I lived closer.

The food was ok at best, portions are tiny, prices are extornatate and staff incridibly rude how they still have a business eludes me! Can only be a destination place for the first visit only…..

I often visit the imperial restaurant and have done for almost 26 years at low fell however we were in ponteland and decide to try this place . The service was disgraceful the food was not that great and the waiter was asked six times for a small spoon for the sauce for the duck then he got the drinks wrong three times and then my Grandaughter asked for a mint she was dismissed and told there was none , if the Chinese lady concentrated more on her staff than her own persona than things might be different . Never again I guess when you eat nice food and service is second to none you get used to a certain standard therefore imperial congratulations you have got it right these can’t follow in your footsteps

Some local friends wanted to try this place as they'd never been before, and it was right next door to the pub we were staying at, so super convenient. We went for a selection of starters that we shared, followed by a selection of mains. All the dishes were tasty and distinctive, and there was more than enough rice/noodles to go with what we'd ordered.

If you are ever in ponteland (near Newcastle) this Chinese restaurant is fantastic. Spicy means spicy for sure my husband is not the biggest fan of Chinese cuisine but he has rated it as number 1 Very impressive food and service

Been going for 30 years and last visit was different. Food not as good. Taste was not as vibrant for some reason - it used to be so good.

Enjoyed the food. Prices are high but the quality of the food is amazing so I think the prices are reasonable for what you get. Not just your usual Chinese restaurant options (including lots of seafood options) which is nice. Would avoid ordering diet coke in the future as it was flat/ warm (as mentioned in a previous review). Service was good but I dont like the 10% service charge being added to the bill. I want to have the option to tip as and when I want and dont like restuarants who automatically add a service charge. I think lots of people probably just pay it as they feel awkward asking for it to be removed but this would make me think twice about coming here again which is a shame as the food is really good.

Probably one of the worst dining experiences we have had , i booked for new years eve with our two toddlers coming along . When we walked in the restaurant at 2000 we were not met with a warm welcome. We say down waited about 30 minutes for drinks to arrive we order the banquet , i was served warm coke cola from a plastic bottle , After a wait of about 15 minutes the chicken and sweetcorn soup arrived, it was not hot and was luke warm we had about 2 spoonfuls and did not finish it it also tastes bitter and had the consistency of salty wall paper paste . No one asked how the soup was soup was , we left with out having any other corses. Worst dining experience we have had

The surroundings are lovely and the food was good. The staff were polite and friendly enough but unfortunately we felt rushed from start to finish. From taking our orders to paying the bill we felt a bit like a nuisance that the staff were in a hurry to get rid of. Understandable if the restaurant was busy and they needed the table but this was not the case. I understand the need to be efficient but it negatively affected what should have been a relaxing dining experience. We had to leave and get another drink elsewhere while we waited for our taxi (due only at 10pm so not even that late,) as we felt uncomfortable. At the end, they poured half a bottle of prosecco into 2 glasses almost to the brim to hurry us up! When you travel from out of the area especially to dine in a certain restaurant,you want to spend a couple of hours there…Maybe they had something to do after work.

Have driven past this place countless times but never stopped in until the other evening. It is very good. The menu is strongly based on seafood and fish which makes it different to so many other Chinese restaurants across the UK. The dishes chosen were excellent. The service is friendly and efficient. It has a nice homely atmosphere to it. It has been there a long time so it has obviously stood the test of time very well. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a Chinese with a difference and you love seafood.

Visited New Rendevous on Valentine’s Day and I cannot fault the food. It was outstanding, full of flavour and a great atmosphere! Will definitely be back, the menu was very good and there’s lots more we want to try!

We really enjoyed our visit. We started coming the this restaurant around 15 years ago. In this time they have moved premises and the owners have changed but the quality of the food and the service has not changed and is as amazing as ever. We throughly enjoyed all of the food we ordered (especially the prawns) and the quality was fantastic. Also the service was efficient and so friendly. My only comment would be that the card machine should be handed to the customer before the machine asks for a tip so that the customer can enter the amount of tip they want to pay. Amazing visit and would definitely recommend.

Food used to be good but due to change of ownership it’s above average. Friendly staff try their best but the owners attitude leaves much to be desired. We recently moved into the area meaning we could get our weekly takeaway delivered and we had several deliveries from this restaurant. Every time they delivered there was some problem or another and the final straw was when they delivered the food and one of the dishes was missing. The owner then accused us of lying about the missing dish, despite the fact we had used them at least five times in three weeks. I would rather give my money to somebody who would appreciate my business.

For our girls first Chinese meal, we had a takeaway from here this weekend and were all extremely impressed at the quality of the food and generous portion sizes. Lovely and well-cooked without that "MSG" taint and stodge so often found in Chinese food - even the prawn crackers were light and tasty. Looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu.

Takeaway was very, very bland. The duck was incredibly dry and almost inedible. Starter was ok but main was tasteless and the chicken dry. Will not be ordering from here again.

Somos una familia de 5 y rara vez comemos fuera, excepto en ocasiones especiales debido al costo, por lo que este esquema marca la diferencia para nosotros. Viajamos a Ponteland porque actualmente no hay ningún restaurante chino en Hexham. La comida fue fantástica: para empezar, teníamos wontons y medio pato aromático, seguidos de carne crujiente, pollo agridulce, pollo chisporroteante con jengibre y cebolleta y pollo chisporroteante en salsa de pimienta negra. El personal fue excelente y sus precauciones Covid fueron buenas a pesar de que el restaurante estaba lleno. Tuvimos una comida tan deliciosa que esta noche volveremos con los abuelos.

Realmente disfruté la comida aquí, ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que disfrutamos de una comida china afuera con el cierre, ¡y esto no nos culpó! Tried here for a take away after years of not going and it was lovely. All of the food was amazing especially the beef fillet in black bean sauce and good value for money. Will definitley be back 😊

What a lovely takeaway experience. Food was lovely, order was ready for time of collection as advised, and food was hot and fresh. I would totally recommend the stir fry king prawn kung po. We will be back, and looking forward to sitting in next time.

Sticky carpet says it all. Chinese food can be disappointing and this is no exception. They ran a half price offer recently and I didn’t bother.

We have been customers of the restaurant for over 20 years. We used the restaurant for both dining in and takeaways when it was originally located on broadway and now that it is in the village we tend to have takeaways.The food is normally very good but last Friday, 31 Aug we had a truly awful takeaway. Probably the worst we have every had anywhere with not one dish being edible.We had salt and pepper scallops to start. The scallops were very chewy and had obviously been overcooked and the salt and pepper coating had all fallen of the scallops and had no flavour. Most of that went in the waste bin.It was then closely followed by the chicken foo yung and the chicken in yellow bean sauce. The quality of the chicken was poor - stringy, chewy and lacking any flavour.Only item that was edible were the noodles. Even the seaweed was tasteless.It is not a cheap restaurant especially for a takeaway so you expect a reasonable quality. I phoned the restaurant and complained to the manager who to be fair apologised but sounded surprised and said that they had never had any complains before. I explained exactly what the problems were and the manager said that she would look into it and call me back.A week later there has been no call or sight of the refund she offered.We have all had dishes that are not quite as nice as previously or perhaps not to our taste but to provide a whole set of dishes that we really awful is very disappointing.I am rating this a poor rather than terrible just because we have been long term customers.

Great night out with my partner. Restaurant was busy, food was lovely (salt & pepper prawns were delicious) nice bottle of red, reasonably priced but service from our English waiter was exceptional. Not only can this guy speak Cantonese but he actually wrote our order in Chinese too... impressive to say the least! We will definitely be back.

We brought friends who were visiting from Australia and was confident we would receive excellent food and service. Even though it was a very busy night we couldn't fault a thing. Everyone enjoyed their food and there was a great choice of vegetarian options. The atmosphere was great and the staff were efficient and friendly. We'll be back again soon.

What a great choice for a Friday night meal after a few early cocktails in the village of Ponteland. Walked in to book the table at 5.30pm for a 8pm meal and no hassle at all, very accommodating and great welcome. Opted for a set meal for 3 and we were not disappointed....Crab and sweetcorn soup to start the ball rolling with plenty of prawn crackers, followed by the wonderful Aromatic duck served with pancakes and a great selection of Salt and pepper chilli king prawns (delicious) then onto the mains Beef fillet in a tangy cantonese sauce - served on a hot plate, Chicken in a garlic chilli sauce (this was nice but the weakest of the three dishes, and Yeung chow fried rice King prawns in szechuan sauce, unbelievable tastes and plenty for three adults, finished off with fresh orange. Definitely top quality and felt satisfied with amount as sometimes after a chinese meal we have been left feeling hungry as dishes are full of vegetables rather than meats/fish....not the case at this place. Will definitely be returning soon and management in the restaurant is spot on with staff very quick to respond to your requests. Thanks for a great Friday night.

Went there for lunch today. Just like in January, the staff were really friendly, all the food came quickly and was so delicious. And there is so much of it! One of the best places I’ve eaten at. Can’t wait to go again soon.

We have been customers since the early days of New Rendezvous Broadway Darras Hall. Have never had a bad experience until tonight. It feels like the management are taking short term financial gain over the quality of what they offer & satisfaction of their customers.

Sunday lunch for five was a superb affair!This was our second visit for Sunday tapas style lunch,fantastic selection of food everyone was very pleased with their choices,service was prompt and friendly,Micheal looked after us and is quite a character and very efficient,all the staff are very kind,and the food so so tasty,will be returning very soon.

Went last night and had terrible service, there was an English man i assume sone sort of head waiter shouting at the young staff and stomping around making us feel uncomfortable, the menus were covered in grease and food wasn't good at all, my beef tasted of fish I assume be being cooked in the same oil but it was very strong. Sorry but you have lost a regular customer

Food was ok but the service was terrible,waited ages for our meal and drinks was not impressed it was my husbands 70th birthday ,and we had our grandchildren there who were getting restless with the long wait . It took half an hour to get our drinks . There was more food takeaways leaving than people getting there meals in the restaurant won’t be going back . Need to make their minds up if it’s a takeaway or a restaurant .

Really enjoy the food here, it’s fresh and tasty and well worth the extra money. The salt and pepper chicken and soft noodles are delicious. Dim sum is a must try

My husband and I called in tonight on spec without a reservation. We were greeted warmly and the manager, Michael, explained that he could either give us a table in the main room, but that would need to be vacated in an hour, or one in the smaller room which we could have all night. We chose the main restaurant. The service was fast and efficient and when Michael noticed I hadn’t eaten too much of my main course (my own fault as I’d just chosen the wrong thing and it wasn’t to my taste and I’d filled myself up on my delicious lettuce parcel starter) he asked if everything was ok. I explained I had just made a poor choice for me and he offered us drinks on the house to make up for my disappointment. Wow!

A cosy atmosphere serving great food, the spicy beef is a must. Service was lovely with friendly staff. Would definitely visit again.

Visited new rendezvous on Saturday evening with my family and was greeted by a new face to the rendezvous but who I have met before, thanks michael for the exceptional service ( as always) we had a set meal , the food was delicious , plenty to choose from will definitely be back soon, highly recommend. We had a takeaway on 18/01/19 which came to ~£40 for two people. Having visited the restaurant several times before under the previous management, we were very disappointed with the food. In particular, the chow mein and sweet and sour was average.

This was our second occasion at this restaurant and can't rate it highly enough. The food was again outstanding. The vegetarian meal was extremely tasty and have heard they are going to extend the vegetarian/vegan options soon. There were 7 of us and all thoroughly enjoyed the food. One was a very picky child but found the chicken and noodles delicious. Although the restaurant was very busy, we couldn't fault the service and the staff were very attentive. Nice decor. Huge portion sizes. Reasonably priced. Very friendly staff. Quick service time. I love Chinese food and our party of 5, came out very happy with the meal we had just had. Overall the experience was excellent- was for my daughter’s 18th birthday and she is very very fussy about the restaurants she likes .

We visited the New Rendezvous the weekend before Christmas for a family meal out. When we entered on a sunday night at 7pm the restaurant was empty although by the time we left a few more people had arrived.

Only people in the restaurant for two hours... pedestrian service..mix up with mains that was rehashed.. tough crispy duck... over cooked chicken satay... and the waiter wondered why Sundays had gone quiet...

Visitamos para una celebración familiar para el menú de tapas de la comida del domingo. La sopa caliente y amarga era muy sabrosa, luego a aperitivos pinchos de pollo y sal y pimienta costillas eran tan agradables? Dos platos principales muy generosos cada uno de un gran menú variado. El pollo con salsa de chile dulce picante vietnamita es muy recomendable, al igual que el cerdo en salsa de frijoles amarillos. Éramos un grupo de 5 y luchamos para terminar todo (¡pero probamos a buen precio!) bien vale 14. 99 una cabeza. El servicio fue rápido y no fue un problema añadir algunos langostinos de sal y pimienta al chile que no estaban en el menú y son fantásticos. súper comida y gran servicio no podría pedir más.

Llamó a las especificaciones el lunes por la noche y ordenó el menú de degustación para 2. Había una opción de sopa con galletas de gambas, luego entrantes, una selección que incluía langostinos y rollitos de primavera. Los 4 platos principales de una selección de muchos más incluyen rebanadas tiernas de pato. Pollo al limón, tiras de carne y vegetales en salsa de frijoles negros y cerdo agridulce. Un gran tazón de arroz frito con huevo vino en acompañamiento. Una excelente botella de vino (carmenere chileno) ayudó a lavarlo. Bueno, la mayoría, no pudimos terminar todo. . . . una fiesta absoluta. No estoy seguro si esta opción está disponible todas las noches, podría ser un especial de principios de semana. Pero es una excelente manera de disfrutar de un banquete chino cuando solo hay 2 de ustedes en la mesa. Kelly y su personal también proporcionaron un excelente servicio amable.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in ponteland, perfect for any occasion,service and food excellent couldn’t ask for more. The Banquet menu optionsfor Two Persons £38.50 per person was excellent value. Highly recommend

Booked for my nannas 85th birthday based on a recommendation. We weren't disappointed. Dropped a cake off earlier in the day and when we went for our meal they'd decorated our table with sprinkles, birthday banner and balloons which was so thoughtful.

Been going here for a couple of years now,, it was taken over some time ago and to be fair I think the service is still great but the food has gone downhill a little,, still a nice menu and food fine just not as good as before

Called in last night for a last minute takeaway. Ordered for three people, very friendly lady at the counter inside the restaurant took the order. Two appetizers, three main courses, rice, noodles, prawn crackers £43.00. Very good portion size, better than other local alternatives. Food was delicious, flavoursome and still piping hot after a 10 minute journey home. Great experience, we will return.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary here and had an outstanding meal. The salt and pepper prawns were to die for. We were so impressed with the presentation of the food. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I have came to this restaurant for 20 plus years. When Kevin ran it it was amazing and the best place around. Since this rude old lady has taken over (Kelly) it has deteriorated rapidly. Customer service is appalling. We ordered a beef curry no onions and what do you know it arrived full of onions. When we rang back to explain she was rude, refused refund and told me she did not want my custom anymore. If Kevin was still there he would have recognised a loyal customer, that the fault was theirs and gave a voucher and refund for inconvenience. Kevin has a new restaurant google it people and do yourselves a favour go there instead! Ps the food isn’t worth the upset she has caused us tonight

As visitors to the Area we have eaten here 6 to 7 times over the last 5 years.

This was our second visit to this restaurant and we were all so pleased with our meals.We were having a double birthday celebration and the staff could not have been nicer so attentive made sure everything was right.The food was perfect we chose one of the banquets and every course was fab.Thanks to all the staff we will be back soon!!

First time at this restaurant and was nearly put off by a couple of the reviews. Pleased we went as our experience was really good. Went with my husband my son and his girlfriend for her birthday. Had one of the four person banquests at £28 Head. Service was really good. Good choice of spirits but beer options were limited which wasn’t an issue. He drove Good selection in the banquet and good portion sizes. Nice vibe in the restaurant too.

We had a reservation and ordered right away but our food took over 1 hour to arrive at the table. Once the food arrived it was good but, having to wait that long was really hard for our little guests. Maybe they can plan a bit better to have enough staff and chefs if their restaurant is full. But, the food is great. We wont be returning.

We have visited this restaurant on many occasions and also purchase takeaways regularly. We visited on Saturday for the second time since being taken over, although the food had improved since the previous visit we found a £2.50 supplement on the bill. When I questioned this with the owner she said it was because a course was changed. There was four of us and the bill was in excess of £150 but it’s not about the money. Previously Kevin the previous owner would always change an item on the set menu at no cost. I am really disappointed at the attitude of the new owner as she refused to cancel this charge.

I stopped here whilst waiting for a flight. The food, atmosphere and staff were all excellent. The portion sizes were large but didn’t compromise on quality. Next time I’m this way I will definitely come again.

Turned up on chance on Saturday night and were well looked after,, the food and service all as before,, had prawns and the sizzling fillet beef amongst other dishes. Great Chinese food
