Probably one of the worst Chinese takeaways I have ever had, and I’ve been all over the UK. Chicken tough, curry sauce completely tasteless and fried rice well?? I won’t go there again. Lady on the counter was brilliant

Not like any chow mein I've ever had before. Overcooked noodles, no beansprouts and a weird gravy like sauce. Sorry, but I couldn't eat it. Chips portion was half what you'd expect. Couldn't pay on card, has to do bank transfer. Girl in the shop was lovely though.

Stars are purely only for the lady on the front desk as she was great. Food shocking, so disappointed, tiny portions compared to most Chinese Takeaways. Not enough flavour at all. Very let down.

Large selection of dishes. Lady on counter was extremely welcoming and friendly. I like this a lot. Food came out within 5 mins of ordering. All well wrapped. I was solo so had chow mien and peking chicken dishes (with boiled rice). Was good. Noodle well cooked. Peking chicken nice and tangy with a little kick. I enjoyed a lot. I read other reviews and was surprised by the negative comments. My experience was good. I would go back again. Only minor negative is that the peking dish only filled half the pot. If sharing the dish than you may feel a little short changed. For me no issue. Prices were fair. Decent quality

Asked for egg fried rice, bbq sauce and portion of chips. Someone went in for my order and returned with 1 pot . Opened up and all in 1 pot. Chips had this brown watery liquid over them and the rice was on the other side of the pot with no sauce at all The liquid that I assume was supposed to be bbq sauce was just so little it had just made the few chips it was over soggy and stuck together. Not even soy sauce could save it and the dog cried when he sniffed it. Straight in the bin.

This is the worst take away ever . House curry was like bad gravy & no taste and chicken egg foo young was shocking , they were very busy and might have been under pressure , will never got back

Popping in to see Katie at the Golden Rice is always a treat. You are greeted by a warm smile, and once you have placed your order, you can then marvel at her amazing multitasking skills. I have seen that lady, take a call, note down an order, and work out the price, all while wrapping the food that has come out of the hatch behind her. Between these times, she's always up for a pleasant chat while you wait for your takeaway. She's awesome! The food from here has always been delicious and reasonably priced, which is why it has now been my regular Chinese takeaway for years and the go to place after every haircut session in Hexham to finish off my evening. Please note its cash only, but that is hardly a problem as there are a number of ATMs close by.

Like, bloody yum! Food here is absolutely delicious. Chap who runs the kitchen is dead friendly. Portions are a rather on the small side but I think they're going for quality over quantity. Would be nice if the carton was full but jeez... bloody nice! Try the salt & pepper squid, beautiful.

Surpassed expectations. Comfy bench in the waiting area. Had curry with soft noodles, and vegetarian curry with chips. Generous portions, great prices, fast and friendly service. Highly recommended!

We ordered £74 worth of food , no free prawn crackers after spending so much . My partner and I ordered House special chow mien, what was special? Nothing , no beef no chicken a few prawn and one slice of pork. I rang to complain, to be told " he must have forgotten to put them in" what ? What kind of chef is he ?

I tend to go for the sweet and sour chicken or the shredded peeking chicken with egg fried rich. Which are my favourites. So, it guaranteed tasty delicious food each time! And Katie is the best! Lovely lady. She's always cheerful, no matter the weather (sort of speaking)

Very nice lovley and hot had to travel 6 mile back with it so it stayed hot it was packed then wrapped in paper we had chicken fried rice and chicken in black bean it was very nice and the noodles we're amazing . Lovley girl served us and she said 15 mins and was bang on with her timing All in all yes I would recommend. Oh and big portions too.

Ordered 2 meals, both inedible, grey looking tough meat, sauce was congealed and smelled awful, rice was dry and barely warm, and not cheap. This maybe the worst Chinese I ve ate, and when I say ate I mean we tried it and binned it.

I sent my daughter in for a snack as we were eating late, 2 sides (soft noodles/fried rice) curry sauce and she ordered some prawn crackers - as we drove off she told me it was £12.20 I immediately thought there must be a mistake, I d expected it to be around £6/7 so we checked their menu online, we could only see the noodles which were £3.50 before the call connected I explained a mistake has been made with the order and was told no mistake was made…that the noodles were £5, I stopped her and said your menu states £3.50 and she insisted it was £5 then listed extortionate prices upto £12.20 Flabbergasted I hung up, we can get 2 full meals for that price from our usual Chinese! To add insult to injury the curry sauce was green, it looked and smelled like a baby’s nappy so that went straight in the bin, the rice was very dry, the noodles were mediocre.

Been going for years and never had any issues until recently. Paid £17 for half a duck which arrived inedible. Far to dry and hard. Hugely disappointed. Soup was Bland. Due to increase of trade I fear the quality is seriously slipping. I won't be going back till I hear of changes.

We ordered the hot and sour soup it was like gunge terrible ! The chop suey roll was bland and greasy .. chicken and cashew nuts was tasteless chicken seemed to have been boiled so bland and hardly any cashew nuts .. portion beansprouts was sitting in carton of water awful and chips seemed to have been reheated .. all ended up in the rubbish bin waste of money .. also we were told meal would take 20 minutes but actually took an hour terrible service . As for the woman behind counter she kept calling everyone DARLING !!!! not a nice way to greet customers .. my opinion is to Avoid Avoid Avoid this place .

Very busy and popular Chinese takeaway in Hexham. Was able to order ahead, and although it was a bit of a wait, they were able to complete the order when they promised. The food was lovely. 🙂

We come all the way from Durham to get this food to take out it was the best! Haven't been back for years because of rude staff member!! We placed a order and drove through to collect our food order came to about £45 but it was worth it got home opened the food and it was a wrong order we rang them up to inform them of the incident and they said they couldn't do anything as the order we received was worth more then what we spent and cut the phone off couldn't comment on the food but wouldn't go back!!

Not good. Friends said curry was nice. However sweet and sour special was over sweet and too much sauce. Expensive as had to buy rice seperately. Will not return.

I love getting my takeaways here. The food is very tasty, the portions are very good & the prices are very reasonable. Katie & her brother are so lovely & friendly. I've been coming here for years & will continue to do so. Keep up the good work guys x

Awful.. you look forward to a nice Saturday night Chinese and this was poor.. no effort and everything too chewy ( beef ) and over cooked.. ( Chicken ) rice was hard.. 1st time we’d used this place but never again need to step it up, maybe too busy?

,absolutely dire😟 order of roast duck chop suey (not on menu but done to order) if you like watered down chicken tasteless stock for sauce and meat so pale and tasteless perhaps it was duck in a much earlier life then waste your time and money here.

My grandaughter wanted salt and pepper chicken for her tea Saturday my partner brought it home with other meals it was like rubber no chicken to be found peppers etc undercooked disgusting if I had a car I would have took it back lesson learned will not be getting any more food from there

Unmatched, top quality food and service! I would drive up the entire UK for this takeaway if I had to. This place has the best curry and gravy sauces. Katy’s also always cheerful and accommodating with our orders, Jimmy’s a top bloke. The decor is also modern and welcoming. Personal recommendations for dishes: - Cantonese Shredded Beef - Salt and Chilli Chicken - Chicken Curry - House Special Fried Rice/Chowmein - and a portion of chips and curry/gravy is a MUST

Nothing special at all. Just your normal takeaway with normal flavour. Never had lemon chicken with lettuce in before lol chicken was a little tuff

Best take out in Hexham. Owner is so friendly. It gets very busy!!

Just awful! After being loyal to this take out over the years I will NEVER be going back after twice in the last month having very poor service..with no smile, polite apology...nothing. I called for takeout when they opened and was told 1hr (which seemed to be the norm for every call that night despite the queue for orders). I went diwn to collect at 6.10 and the place was absolutely heaving, and the lone server on the counter STILL taking phone calls despite a 40 minute extra wait for my order, and even then only after I asked! Food is okay but just not worth the hassle or grumpy service. No apology, no small discount. In shirt, terrible service, don't bother...there are plenty of others in Hexham and Corbridge. TIP- Hire more staff for busy nights and treat your customers better.

This is my favourite Chinese Takeaway in the country (obviously I've not been to all of them....). Always look forward to a meal from the GR when I'm visiting me Mam I Hexham. Great food. Friendly staff. Love it!

We hadn’t been to the Golden Rice for over a decade but decided to give it a try recently. We have had two family takeaways and both have been really good, everyone has enjoyed the food. This is definitely now our go to local Chinese takeaway!

I've been here three times over several years and the standard has been dreadful every time. Totally flavourless beef in honey and chilli sauce and the 'crispy' beef was completely soggy. Prawn toast burnt and wet. Everything looked very unappealing.

Prices are well worth it, great portion size and excellent taste. If you're looking for something quick and well priced get the sauce in chips & rice. Small is 2.60 (still a great price, more than enough for one person) large is 3.60 I believe and is enough for two.

Called in for a change.I wasnt impressed by the standard of food.It all lacks a punch with flavour amd my house special chowmaine was dry and had little meat in it.Very friendly girl on the counter serving and fast service. Not for me im afraid.

We paid nearly £40 for 5 dishes, 2 of which were egg rice. Instead of "crispy" chilli beef , we got soggy tasteless beef with sweet and sour sauce. Instead of sweet and sour chicken balls in batter, we got Hong Kong chicken. Chowmein that was covered in nastiness soaked in water, it was more like super-noodles with veg. And bland spring rolls . Don't eat here

Whatever I o ordered was always to the freshest standard and best taste. I have now a favourite dish, but sampled many of the menue. Delicious !

Needed a takeaway having just pitched our tent at the racecourse late Friday. Chinese was the choice and we weren't disappointed......set meal was good value and tasted lush .....not so salty as some Chinese meals can be and lots of flavour. Would recommend

This Chinese is absolutely brilliant. Food is gorgeous and the lady on front of house runs entire thing single handed, taking orders and giving out food, quickly, effectively and brilliantly. Such a hard working individual. Will never go anywhere else.

Tratamos aquí un cambio y aunque era agradable tener algo diferente que no estaba impresionado por ella. El huevo frito arroz era muy agradable, aunque el limón pollo para mí no era tan bonito. Pensamos que el pan de gambas eran un poco duras, pero en general estaba muy bien y barato. Puede visitar de nuevo y probar algo diferente.

We needed a good takeaway for a quick Saturday night meal and what a find and gem this place was.Friendly member of staff, happy and chatty.Food was amazing and as we had waited our order was dealt with quickly.When we got home the food tasted absolutely delicious and was an excellent standard and very tasty.

I have lived in around around Hexham for a few years now and this is the first trip (I am said to say) to the New Golden Rice and have to say... I should have gone there years ago.The place looks quite innocuous and you could miss it as you drive down the high street as I have done many times, but once you get something from there I doubt you would want to go anywhere else. The food is sensational. Can't describe it any other way. Yes, you have to wait - this place is very popular especially at weekends and even phoning ahead I had to wait for about 20 mins for the order to be ready but it was worth it. This actually beats a lot of places on Stowell Street in Newcastle hands down. I cannot say enough about it and it just joined my favourite takeaways list.

When staying in Corbridge we looked round for a takeaway and decided to call into the New Golden Rice Take Away. The young woman behind the counter was very friendly and this was why I choose a very good rating. The meals themselves were fine, although perhaps lacking in flavour.

we've had a few takeaways from the golden rice, they're always good and the service is always friendly and efficient. we live a way out of hexham and always treat ourselves if in town. this time we had chicken chow mein, Singapore chow mein and king prawn curry and fried rice. free prawn crackers. that's probably what we had last time too. all delicious.
