I tried some other dishes today. Every dish is very good! This lemon chicken is great

Lovely atmosphere! Friendly and helpful staffs as they have always been.

This place is an utter joke. Tried to order by phone - no reply so I went into the restaurant to place order. I was told to collect it an hour later. I went back an hour later to collect my order, sat for 40 minutes and there was STILL no sign of it. Each time I enquired when my order would be ready I was told ‘ it’ll just be a minute’. Had to just get my money back in the end. An evening ruined. Why couldn’t they just be honest and upfront instead of having me wait and wait and wait? I’m furious! Never again will I set foot in this place.

Collected a carryout. Staff very pleasant. Chow mein had no sauce Crispy wontons were flat with no Filling but prawn crackers were OK.

Portions are massive however to be charged £16.50 for a pot of chinese tea and a small cup of English tea! Noodles we're very plain and prawns a little tough. Wouldn't go back again

Very nice special lunchtime. Three of us often come here to have chicken and sweetcorn soup, salt and pepper chicken, chicken and mushroom, beef dishes, and the latest was the duck and crispy seaweed. The food is tasty and the portions very generous. Staff are always pleasant, and yes it could maybe do with a makeover, but there's nothing wrong unless you decide you want there to be, and it makes for an extremely good value option for lunch.

Simply superb, one of the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had. Phenomenal taste and quality.

The place is scruffy and run down. Food very basic and uninspiring. Bland and disappointing. Staff dressed in tracksuits.

Got a takeaway went home and dished it out and had couple of mouthfuls, was disgusting no taste (bland) it looked nothing like curry! Would not recommend to anyone, went straight in the bin

Ordered a takeaway tonight and was assured that the mixed vegetable curry was vegetarian. It isn't. I've just found chicken in it. What if I had a food allergy or intolerance - would they still have lied to me? I've given this restaurant too many chances. Never, ever again.

We got the veg chow Mein- overcooked veg and stodgy. crispy duck and seaweed- duck was deep fat fried with batter which sounds nice but was canny rank seaweed was good thou to be fair. Egg fried rice- hard to go wrong but they somehow managed. Spring rolls weren't too bad about on par with frozen ones. Wouldn’t recommend as both me and my girlfriend now feel sick. On a positive note the staff are friendly

Not my usual place for dinner, but running late and keen to eat to then get back on the road. To be fair it is a takeaway with seating to dine from what I can see/experienced and hence you should not expect a fine dining session! Staff v young and clearly not a lot of skills in the hospitality trade, but friendly and got the order correct. Food arrived within 15 minutes and was as expected. Would I go back? Yes to order to a takeaway as this is what I think they do best.

We were served quickly and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Calm and peaceful atmosphere with lovely decor. :)

Pretty terrible. Ordered 3 dishes, could only eat one. The other two smelt like wet dog.

Just had a take away . It was disgusting. The duck and pancakes had bones in the duck the pancakes fell apart In My hands and stuck together , . Chips were like 2 day old chips refried , vile . Salt and pepper chicken dry and tasteless . Will not go back every again for take away or sit in . What a waste of money .

Arrived at 12 for lunchtime 2 course special. Only one other couple in restaurant. Service was by a lone young waiter. Waited ages for the starter (20 mins), and even longer for the main course. Woefully slow service. Food was just average nothing special. Wont be returning again.

Food was disgusting. Ordered chicken Thai green curry, the sauce was thick and gloopy. It was suppose to be chicken, it could have been next doors cat. The only positives were the staff, they were lovely.

Clean and cosy. Food lovely. Staff are polite and attentive. Would recommend a go.

The worst Chinese meal ever. So disappointed. The last time we visited here, it was good. This time I couldn't eat it, it was such poor quality. The chicken was like sandwich meat slices just heated up in a very salty bad sauce. Do not waste your money here. Joe, the waiter, on the other hand was very polite and was the only good thing about the visit. We will never eat here again.

***EDIT*** As this restaurant is now under new management I thought I'd give it another go. I was assured the mixed vegetable curry was vegetarian, however halfway through eating it I found chicken in it. Never again. ************************************* Even though they have meals on the menu marked as vegan or vegetarian, they fry everything in the same oil as the meat. When we questioned, after ordering, they blamed us for not specifying vegetarian. I didn't think I had to.... I should just be able to trust what the menu says. If it says vegan next to an item, then it should be vegan. 2 stars because the food is ok for non vegans/vegetarians. Although after tonight we won't be ordering from here again, I wouldn't trust them. Also, on one occasion my card was declined when I tried paying for an order from here. I paid with cash instead and thought I'd contact the bank in the morning. The following day my bank contacted me to say the Golden Dragon had tried charging my card £5000, no wonder it was declined! So the fraud team had been alerted. I could understand it if the bill came to £50 and they'd mistakenly entered a couple of extra zeros, but it wasn't. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but just be careful if ordering from here as mistakes happen.

Came for a job celebration and it was an awful experience. It feels like a takeaway with seating and staff are clueless for folk that are dining. Meal was just average, main courses came out at different times, but we had to laugh as no plates came out only saucers to eat off. Only two tables occupied when we were there and they complained loudly too. The most shocking part was I ordered lime and soda so they served my 7up with lime!!! (good job I'm not a diabetic). Please avoid if you want a restaurant experience, it's a takeaway and staff do need lots of training for hospitality. - I will also add it was not cheap.

Arrived too late for a sit down meal, but got a take out with just a 10/15 minute wait. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was delicious - best beef satay I have had in a long time and the prawns in other dishes were huge and fresh, not those tiny little ones. A very generous portion of spring rolls as well. Great experience

Ate there last night..... absolutely terrible ! Still traumatised by the wasted money for such awful food . No bowls, said they had ran out? Excuse me? . Tiny plates plus a fork and spoon to eat with. Soft noodles were crispy noodles. Serving bowls were like pasta dishes and looked terrible ... I could go on but let's just say if you are thinking of going then don't waste your time or money. Has to be the worst food I've ever had. Reminded me of bad street food 😩 .

We had the set meal £12:50 + 2 soft drinks we had had prawns in both meals total bill came to just under £35 which was ok.... it came to the sweet we were told no ice-cream no banana fritters so that left pineapple fritters one out of three is bad we were in the restaurant 15 min after opening..... Disappointed......

I phoned up to make an order for collection before ordering I asked two questions 1) is the curry "Breast" or "Thigh" meat I was told breast this was a lie! the chicken was cheewy and slimy that's eather thigh or cheap bottom of the barrel breast that's been steeping in water all day! Proper chicken breast should be fresh chopped chunks firm to the touch but will fall apart when eaten! 2) Is there "peas", "Carrots" or other vegetables in the curry ( I ask as this is an English thing to thin out the curry with cheap veg over more expensive chicken ) I was told there was so I asked for this to be removed from both my curries. Yet I still received two curries with "Mushrooms " now I know this is a "Fungi" but I think it would be obvious this would be included in the No vegetables! I also asked for boiled rice what I received was in fact sticky rice so sticky I couldn't even shake it of my fingers! Now there is a difference between "Boiled" and "sticky" rice that difference being starch boiled rice should be washed 2/3 times before being cooked to remove the starch this stops the rice developing the sticky starchy coating that creates the sticky rice commonly used in sushi and rice balls! So this was clearly not done as the rice could have been molded into a castle and kept its shape be warned you will receive sticky rice! Considering I paid over £40 I would have at least expected to receive even a free small bag of prawn crackers especially when ordering a curry but this was not the case. I find it hard to believe this place has won any awards at all unless from a local community award where testers have not had much choice to compare it with! I knew there was a reason I avoided Chinese/Cantonese restaurants in England like the plague when visiting family. If I am ever back down this way I most definitely will not be visiting this restaurant again!

Back again,and once more not disappointed. We had lemon chicken,spicy noodles,fried rice and king prawn szechuan,accompanied by prawn crackers. Very tasty and good sized portions,very fast service. Very attentive staff,and really good value.

Had a takeaway tonight, the food was absolutely lovely. However i ordered over the phone and the girl on the phone was so snappy and rude. I questioned the time as i couldn’t hear her and when i did she snapped. When i went in to pick it up the girls were not friendly or hospitable at all. Just a little disappointed in the customer service as i’ve never experienced this with the golden dragon before.

Not good. The starters where ok but the mains i ended up throwing away. Stay away form the deep fried chilli beef, its bad.

Lovely food here. Always tasty and the owner/manager is so friendly and helpful. The waitress was really attentive and helpful. Food can't piping hot and was delicious. Really reasonably priced.

Zero atmosphere and the front of house staff had no experience even though they did try. We got the impression the place is running on a shoestring with only some of the wines on the wine list available. Plastic and paper tablecloths and very little choice of cutlery, chopsticks, hand wipes etc. The food was ok but at the moment it should stick to being a takeaway and is not ready to open as a restaurant

The service was friendly and helpful and the meals were excellent. We will go again next time in Hexham

We visited regularly until lockdown and never had any cause to complain. After the restaurant reopened we revisited and we're not impressed as the review I left in December. We revisited again last Tuesday lunchtime and it was like going into another restaurant. It was nice and warm, the service was good all be it only one young man who was very efficient and pleasant and the food was very good. We will be returning

We read reviews on this restaurant and decided to try for ourselves. The staff were courteous and attentive,the decor could be described as a bit dated. The food was delicious, served hot and the serving dishes for the rice etc were also hot. We had Malaysian king prawn curry,battered lemon chicken,fried rice and spicy noodles along with the complementary prawn crackers,all of which were well cooked and extremely tasty.We were pleasantly surprised at the prices this restaurant charges for the food considering the size of meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend anyone else to dine here. We will without doubt return.

My partner and I had dinner on Saturday night. I had salt and chilli pepper ribs followed by chicken with crispy seaweed, plus a portion of soft noodles. All of it was really tasty. Washed down with the a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The portions were huge! We couldn't finish ours, and were offered a doggy bag. I thought the service was attentive, but not in your face. I am dismayed by all the negative comments on here. My only negative comment is I didn't like the large TV on the back wall , I thought it made the place feel cheap. I guess it was hooked up to the stereo system.

i visited for the first time a couple weeks ago, food and service was lovely, i was served by a lovely young girl. i enjoyed it that much i decided to go again for a takeaway last night, however service wasn’t as good. when i walked in i was greeted by a young lad with blonde hair and glasses, he seemed nice at first however he got progressively worse throughout my wait for food, his attitude and language towards other staff members and customers was disgusting. he seemed like he did not want to be here and he didn’t greet anyone in a nice manour he stood behind the bar shouting at the manager with his disgusting language being heard by others in the restaurant.

Don't hate it but don't love it. Takeaways always lovely had loads never a problem delivered hot & fresh. Had 2 sit down meals since the restaurant reopened. First meal was tasty hot & full of flavour. Huge portion picked off the al a carte menu as lunchtime menu wasn't printed. Returned this week menu printed very limited choice. Supplements for prawns/noodles etc which is acceptable but the portion size has halved. King prawns with peppers & chilli not the best must of been a full pepper chopped 5 prawns with thickened sweet chilli sauce.Restaurant absolutely baltic had to put my coat back on. As for the toilets they are totally unacceptable and need a serious clean. The smell of fresh tobacco smoke in passage is rank. Please sort it out as once was the best place in hexham to eat

The staff are working really hard and the food is as good as ever (fantastic), so I can overlook some early hiccups.

Order was mixed up ended up with two orders first one was nothing else but chips and omelette which had been swapped from someone else’s order I was left with a mountain of food to dispose of which I felt quite angry about, only good thing was my original order was delivered immediately with a sorry, however I feel this shouldn’t happen and after I’d stood over quarter of an hour waiting in restaurant which was freezing cold more care should have been took.

Golden Dragon, Battle Hill, Hexham 8.45 pm on 3/12/2022 Zero stars, but so bad it is almost worth a visit for the entertainment value. I’d heard a few weeks back that Golden Dragon was re-opening as a sit-down restaurant, so after a nice Saturday evening...

Don't bother ordering from here, we were told an hour wait for delivery, ok no problem, called an hour and a half later to ask where it was to be told it'll be another 10 minutes, my mobile number was taken when I ordered so you'd think the least they could do was to call and say our food was going to be so late but when the "business" is being managed and phones answered by tweens we should probably have just ordered from somewhere else in the first place... Try golden rice down the street, they don't deliver but at least you get your order.

Ordered for 2, shredded chilli chicken. Dry chicken, chilli sauce had BBQ sauce in it, not good. Chicken with blackbean sauce faired better. Overall meh quality.

Amazing food. Served hot and great portions.

This is honestly the most mediocre Chinese ever, it’s not like the food is horrible but it’s not great either. There’s always something that goes wrong, granted it’s always something small that’s only a minor inconvenience but it always happens and it’s a chore to get it fixed too. Whether it’s something missing from your order or the wrong thing on your order or it’s late or even a mixture of things. Then they want you to collect when they mess up your order. Trust me if I had my license I wouldn’t be ordering from you guys

We have just returned froma holiday at Kielder, and after placing an order at Charred - Steak and Lobster grill. they decided they didn't want our 80 quid order and cancelled it. Then is when we found the Golden Dragon !!! WOW now thats what we call a Chinese takeaway!! they took up the mantle Charred didn't want and our 80 quid went to them. Food was amazing, better than home and believe me we were not disappointed.

Nothing wrong with the food. The portions are big and it's tasty. Problem was with the organisation. Had to wait for an hour after the agreed pick up time. Communication was poor about how long the food would be

Had a delivery. Don’t understand why you can’t sit in yet here but I guess that’s up to the owner. But who is the owner? Previously it was clear who was in charge now there are always young people trying there best to serve everyone...

Food over an hour late. Lines are always busy. Manager never there.. won't even offer compensation for food being over hour late!!! I swear to god a manager better ring me about this sorry excuse of a business. Furious!

The way this takeaway works is simple and very effective. Go to Facebook page for the menu, make your choice and ring up to order, pay over phone or on collection at time chosen. Meals themselves highly desirable full of flavour better still all containers full to the brim. One word of advice is if ordering portion of chips allow one portion between two.... Enjoy.

Really unhappy with my takeaway meal that I had tonight. I had chips, sweet an sour chicken balls and curry sauce, the sweet and sour sauce was very close to blue dragon sweet chilli sauce which I didn’t enjoy, I found the chicken quite dry...

Used to go for sit down meal before lockdown and always enjoyed it. As caravan site re opened decided to order take away. Girl on phone couldn't have tried harder to do order but meal was horrible. Didn't enjoy mine at all and hubby not over enamoured with his. Will be trying elsewhere.

Pre ordered at 3.30pm for an 8pm delivery. 8.45pm and we called to ask where the order was, we were told it'll be 30 minutes. 10.15pm and still nothing, not picking up the phone, not replying to messages, absolutely awful service. They called at 7.30pm...

We thought we'd try the golden dragon as it was under new ownership. Ordered beef spring onion with ginger and beef green peppers in black bean sauce and were deeply disappointed. The beef was thick and really chewy...yuck. Neither dish was authentic or resembled any...

On a recent trip to Hexham for the weekend, we tried the Golden Dragon. The meals were both tasty and reasonably priced.Decor was a bit dates but do not let that put you off We will definetley head back.

I'm a regular customer of the Golden Dragon, as both a sit-down customer and for take-away meals.The food and the service I have enjoyed there have always been excellent. Ingredients are freshly cooked on demand and are always of a consistently high standard in my experience. It's also great value for money.There's an excellent range of dishes on the extensive Menu, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've tried (& that's a lot!). Hint: Anything with the Special Fried Rice is amazing. And the Salt & Pepper Chicken also deserves a mention all of it's own!To summarise: Highly Recommended, 5 Stars!

Visiting family in Hexham we decided to book a family meal, haven’t been to the Golden Dragon in about 5 years.Table was booked for 7.30 I should have had my concerns when I walked in and only two other small tables were taken, I immediately noticed the blue dirty stained carpet, we had a table for 11 booked, drinks and starters were ordered, I ordered chicken satay which was barely palatable...Main dishes were ordered and I ordered crispy chilli beef, what was brought out was not the chilliest beef that I have eaten for many years at different restaurants. It was covered in hoisin sauce which was so salty..... I had to send it back it was disgusting...

Absolutely disgusting food, worse Chinese we have ever had ! First time used & will be our last ... curry (was meant to be a Singapore ) bland , tasteless and freezing cold !!! Rice greasy and also freezing cold !! Prawns soft (almost tasted raw ) chips burnt , greasy and also freezing cold !! Chicken & sweetcorn soup full of lumps (I’m guessing was hardened cornflour used to thicken soups) still looking for the chicken ?? Our meal was very expensive , which would have been fine if the meal had met our expectations.. very disappointed in this place and won’t ever be returning even if it was free !!

A nice restaurant lunch time special reasonably priced

We visit this restaurant regularly even though it involves a 50 mile round trip and 2 buses.The food is first class as is the service. We know one person who travels even further and she evev buys some fried rice to take home because it is so good.The lunch time menu is very good value with lots of choice.The owner had a restaurant in Stowell Street Newcastle which set the standard for Cantonese food in the Northeast and he has taken that standard with him to this restaurant.So, highly recommended.

This is our favourite restaurant, we booked in for a meal before the Hexham Bonfire, the place was busy but the staff as always friendly and attentive, we ordered from the weekend early bird and it was perfect in portion size and honestly just right for us before the fireworks, we had their salt and pepper chicken and sweetcorn soup, beef and black bean and sweet and sour chicken with rice! We highly recommend it here

Had a meal at The Golden Dragon tonight. The staff are so friendly, helpful and attentive, really great service, with smiles! As for the food... What can I say? Every single morsel was polished off by everyone because it is fantastic. Great quality, generous portions and the taste is superb. Love this restaurant, and would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.

On holiday in Hexham, we decided to have an early evening weekend special at The Golden Dragon.We were seated quickly, and our request to be given a little longer to think about drinks was respected.The food was delicious, tasty and nicely presented. We enjoyed having our meal quietly... although it was obvious that the restaurant was going to become extremely busy later.If you are in Hexham and fancy a good meal - fairly priced and great value for money then look no further than The Golden Dragon!

Went on a Sunday evening, when very little else in Hexham is open, so was able to enjoy the well priced Weekend Special menu deal, to which we added crispy duck for an extra £4. Most other tables in the restaurant seemed to be doing the weekend special as well. Good sized portion of different appetisers, duck course was cold but tasty, then about 10 different Chinese restaurant staple dishes to choose from for main course. Good sized portions especially the rice and noodles. Service was quick, a few takeaways were being made throughout the evening but they didn’t seem to slow our service down at all. Would visit again.

We arrived at the Golden Dragon a little before 6.00 pm on a Tuesday evening. Apart from us (a couple) and a a group of five who arrived at the same time, the restaurant was empty.Service was a little slow, although there were two waiting staff and front of house manager. When our starter arrived it was inedible - tough squid in an undercooked batter. We asked for a replacement (the manageragreed with us), only to be told that there was none left. Our new starter took 15 minutes to arrive, but was fine. By this time we had been in the restaurant for 35 minutes. After waiting another 40 minutes, during which no-one approached us, we decided to leave. The manager seemed very surprised, shouted across to one of the waiters to ask how long our food would be, but we told him that an hour and a quarter was long enough to wait and we wanted to pay for our starter and drinks and to leave. This we did and were asked to pay only for our drinks. There was no apology or explanation.There was a constant stream of takeaway customers while we were there; It is clear where the restaurant's priorities lie!

My friend took me to this restaurant. Parking was difficult and it was a long walk to and from the restaurant. We were allocated a table on arrival. The staff were efficient and friendly. Drinks were quickly served. We selected our Cantonese meal from the large menu and it was served very quickly. The food was very tasty and warm. I will definitely return for a meal when in the area.

We always visit the Golden Dragon when we are in Hexham. They offer an excellent lunch deal with more variety than most. Their Salt and Pepper Chicken is to die for, so good that I usually have it both as a starter and main course. Great staff who are very helpful and very friendly. No after the meal MSG headaches here. Definitely our favourite Chinese.

Very poor Chinese. Wanted to take the children to try Chinese food. Prawn crackers very oily. Spring rolls a bit slimy and overcooked filling. Duck had zero actual crispy bits, and the spring onions were well past their best. Kung po chicken was ok, but the fillet steak Cantonese style in pretty sure wasn't fillet and was more braised in what tasted a bit like gravy. Sorry, didn't like it much.

Wonderful cuisine, and great value at lunchtime. Lots of choice on menu. Staff very friendly and efficient. Excellent meeting place.
