I don't like to openly criticise a restaurant but this was genuinely the worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had. Maxin's used to have a good reputation in Kirkcaldy but it's really gone downhill. Bland food, slimy tasteless chicken, fried rice that wasn't even fried and chow mein that was inedible. Sad to say that most of the meal ended up in the bin. Really, really poor.

Tasty fresh food and excellent quality cuisine

I hate writing bad reviews I like to order from home town businesses but never again will I order from here was one of the worst chinese meals I've had it used to be brilliant years ago but now the chicken didnt taste like chicken the rice and chowmein had a horrible smell and taste the prawn crackers minging i phoned to complain chef said I'll give you the chowmein might not have been the best what chef even says that the salt pepper chips where only good thing 30 quid down the pan to b told they'll give me a credit note to cover two chowmeins 30 pound wasted I knew I should have stuck to amritsar never fails I hope maxines sorts its self out feeling disappointed

Absolutely poor quality the chicken satay sauce was like water and so was black bean sauce, fried rice was not fried rice . Tried Peking ribs starter and thought ribs were supposed to be on the bone. Will not be ordering again shocking waste of £19

Not bad, but equally, not especially good. The menu changed for the worse when it changed hands a few years ago. No Tang Lang chicken anymore which was amazing, and the sweet and sour sauce isn’t the red sticky good stuff, it’s brown watery, vinegary rubbish. I mean come on...that literally the most ubiquitous sauce on a Chinese menu and it’s terrible here.

A small fraction more expensive than its competitors for the simple reason it is far better than all I have tried.

We’ve visited lots of times since 2016, and particularly enjoyed recent meals, where we’ve explored the traditional specialties part of the menu, which are interesting, tasty and distinguish the restaurant from others we’ve enjoyed in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester etc. Maxin is a local, under-appreciated gem that we’ll be delighted to enjoy again in coming months. The staff are nice too, relaxing as their experience grows. We are utterly puzzled by the negative reviews as we very frequently eat out, and have plenty to compare with.

Great food. Nice and friendly staff

First visit since it changed hands. Had the crispy chilli chicken with fried rice, hot and delicious. Had the sweetcorn and chicken to soup to start which was also very tasty. Lovely staff.

We booked a specific table but when we arrived were given a different one . When we were ordering the food we enquired about a certain starter we were assured it was the one we were after when it arrived it was wrong a simple task for the chap! Suggest he takes the time to study up on the menu . For the main we ordered chicken chow mein it was AWFUL chicken was cold and meal was tasteless needless to say we couldn't eat it . When the bill arrived we politely said we would speak to the manager at the section away from other diners so as not to disturb anyone when we tried to explain the issues we had she was rude and adamant there was nothing wrong with the meal .. she didn't eat with us so strange she thought food was ok ? We said she should deduct the price of the main meal and she rudely argued with us but eventually did she continued to argue even when we were leaving and out into the street what a terrible way to deal with customers . So in our opinion .. AVOID THIS PLACE .

Avoid this place if you are looking for a half decent meal. I haven't experienced such bland and lazily put together food in my lifetime. I ordered a starter of soup, middle of paper prawns and a main of chicken with sides of fried rice and beansprouts. Often in Scotland, Chinese restaurants are closed. I wished this one was. I ordered a La carte Soup, edible, but without flavour. Paper prawns. Pink meat, could have been spam! Hideous. Flaccid and fatty bits of rice paper falling apart. Chef... What chef... This was disgusting. I returned... But there is no response from the kitchen. Or surprised... They should shut themselves down. Chickeb Hong Kong dish... So e chicken. Cooked and some not. Mixed with gloopy MSG mess. Rice fine. Beansprouts served in a battleship grey starchy sauce. Ate about 1/8 as I was hungry. No response from kitchen at all. Don't go here. It's AWFUL

Got a takeaway from here, asked for salt and pepper chicken, when I got back to my work I opened my container to maybe 5 or 6 pieces of chicken and some rice. Didn’t taste good and didn’t look very well presented. Will not be back

By far the worst take away ive had, this restuarant used to be one of the best around kirkcaldy but it's went so far downhill it's unbelievable, rubbery processed chicken, chicken wings that look like they've not been cooked , I feel physically sick after eating their food half an hour ago. Wouldn't ear put here again if it cost nothing , this place has lost its appeal and has fell into the below average take away category. Avoid!

Today my husband and myself decided to treat ourselves to Lunch in Maxine Chinese/Cantonese Restaurant in Kirkcaldy. We've not been for a while, but we're not disappointed, it was well worth waiting for. The Service was promp, and Staff were very friendly. We decided to stay with the Set Lunch Menu, which has a decent choice of starters, mains and puddings. I had Chicken Noodle Soup for starters, hubby had Sling Rolls, both piping hot and very tastey. Main Courses...Chicken Curry with Fried Rice....I've had this before at Maxins, however, they have either changed the Chef or the Recipe, it was so tastey, had a nice little kick to it. Hubby opted from Schachwian Beef with chips. The best was so tender it just melted in the mouth. Puddings just had to be Fritters, one banana and one pineapple, again they didn't disapoint.. It's Chinese Lager that is now served and it had a real nice taste. Toilets are a bit small and selflessly clean. I can't think why we have not been for a while, especially since its been renovated. So nice that we may even be a weekly treat, even though it's a trip from Glenrothes it was worth th £23 Boil for 2 three course meal and a drink each. Keep up the good work folks, you have a special little gem there.

Got takeaway, crispy wontons and chicken curry. The wontons came with very little meat, not even pea sized and burnt. Phoned to complain about the wontons, told that’s how they were made, he told me he wasn’t interest and put the phone down on me. I will not be ordering again from there. The prawn crackers weren’t bad lol

The food is lovely, couldn't fault my chilli prawns and special chow mein but my husband did say his lamb stir fry was a little salty. The owners could do with putting the heating on, I ate my meal with my jacket on the entire time. Waiting staff very friendly and helpful, however. Will go back when the weather is warmer.

Went in for a takeaway order. Girls at desk don’t know prices, and can’t count. My order seemed to go up 50p between handing over my cash and getting my change. I had to ask why, before I got an explanation and only got an apology when I said it would’ve been nice to be informed! Two dishes ordered. When we got home only one dish had rice. Food was awful. Very bland and without any taste. Fried rice looked or tasted nothing like fried rice. Can’t comment on the boiled rice as we didn’t get it. Worst takeaway Chinese ever.

Called in an order for collection. The girl on the phone was not very pleasant at all- which I chose to ignore at the time. Told me it would be 25 mins (which is fine) Went in to pick up the food after waiting for 25 mins to be told that it would be another half an hour as there was a problem in the kitchen. Given that they had taken my number- couldn’t the restaurant have called to let me know? Isn’t that what it is for? Very disappointed indeed. I use this restaurant on a regular basis and feel that I wasn’t dealt with appropriately. No apologies. Just a matter of fact that the order wouldn’t be ready for 30 mins. Left without food.

Having booked a late hair appointment, my husband and I decided to stay in Kirkcaldy for a meal on Friday evening. I had initially considered one of the many Italian restaurants, but had a hankering for Chinese food. I had not been to Maxin's for over two decades! I wasn't really sure it was still open, but it is, and we had a lovely meal. My husband said his chicken curry was the best Chinese curry he has ever had!! I had a Kung Po dish which was delicious. We will certainly return. I noticed that they also open for lunch on Thursday through Saturday. We had not booked a table, and the restaurant was fairly busy. Good menu options too. Staff really welcoming and professional.

I hadn't been to the restaurant for over a year as my last experience was not great. However, I decided to give it another try and ordered two take away meals by phone and collected them at the restaurant. I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and did not have to wait long. The food was good, especially the prawn crackers, but not exceptional. I will go again and try somethink different.

Un-eatable, threw in bin, it was disgusting and only ordered chicken fried rices and curry sauce, basic stuff still crap should be easy!!. Don’t waste your money!

I ordered rice, chicken, mushrooms, chips and prawn crackers. half of the rice was un cooked and we didn’t get prawn crackers that we paid for also we had to wait 40 minutes I wouldn’t recommend getting a takeaway from here

Not had time to eat in yet but will do shortly. The rice paper wrapped prawns, chefs chicken and bbq ribs are amazing. Can’t recommend enough. So glad it’s went back to its old menu. Great memories will definitely be back

Excellent food best Chinese by far highly recommend superb

I've been visiting Maxins for many years and was delighted when the restaurant ownership changed recently and they began offering a more extensive menu, with many old favourites from previous years. We have had a number of delicious takeaways and visited the restaurant on Saturday with friends. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived but within an hour it was virtually empty, which was a shame. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and well presented, with generous portions. We particularly enjoyed the minced game with lettuce starter, stuffed green peppers and belly pork with mustard greens. These excellent dishes are not what you usually find on a Scottish Chinese menu (which seems to have confused some previous reviewers) but the flavours are amazing, so they are well worth a try! The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was lovely and very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Got a take away from here, dreadful, chicken covered in oily skin, meant to be crispy, so horrible had to church it away, husband shredded beef tasted of vinegar. Very disappointing. Won’t be ordering from there again

Be prepared to wait over an hour if you're ordering to take away and they have a few people eating in. was told on the phone ready in 30 minutes went to pick it up and was told another 20 minutes..... I'm still waiting. food is average.

We recently enjoyed a fantastic meal at Maxims in Kirk caldy. The service was prompt, the food was excellent and we really enjoyed chatting with the wait staff. We would highly recommend Maxim's.

Came through from Glasgow to visit family and was recommended here. Very nice relaxing restaurant. The staff were very professional, kind, friendly and attentive. The restaurant was more or less full (good indication) and had no problem whatsoever with the ordering or service times. We had a selection of vegetarian, chicken and prawn (shrimp) dishes served with the chow mein noodles (highly recommended) and rices. The food was spot on. Excellent portions, very tasty and which didn’t leave you with that overfull feeling you get from some Chinese eateries.

We have visited this old favourite twice and had a takeaway once since this restaurant reopened. The menu is not as extensive as it once was, but on each occasion we have enjoyed our meal. Good value for money and good food. Will be back again soon

Being an Asian and exposed to Chinese food, I could say that they are just the average restaurant.

Not really happy with my visit there the food was ok but nothing special I was hoping it was good like the last time I've went there(9 years ago) but got told there is a new management so I still went there to try the food but maybe I got spoiled in the past with Chinese food anyway it was one off I'll go somewhere else next time I'll come down to Fife

Having visited maxins on numerous occasions we were left very disappointed on our last visit fri 10th August ..

On arriving at the restaurant and enquiring if a table for two available the waiter at table started to look at book without a smile or acknowledgement. After few minutes he said yes there's a table. Went back to what he was doing for a minute before showing us to table. Bit rude. We asked for wine list, waiter verbally mentioned wines he had so we ordered Pinot Grigio as first one he mentioned and didn't take in rest. Husband ordered his started to be told 'we don't have... ', again no pleasantries or 'am sorry we don't have them' would've been nice. My starter was very small (supposed to be from hungrier starters), chicken was dry. Main course was ok, nothing I'd rave about. After clearing our main away nobody came near to ask if wanted anything else. We eventually went to reception to pay. Waitress couldn't find it, was told to go to waiter, he came over looked about and left. She then muttered 'I'll do it then' told us amount we paid and she put change in my husbands hand. Again no pleasantries. On leaving we worked out bill an realised wine must've been £24 bottle. Without wine list we'd no idea, thankfully the wine at least was nice but not worth that amount. Won't be back

Staff forgot we were they're even though we had eight us sat right the middle, we waited two half hour for main course they also come out with different food not for us one of ask for no veg in curry they had peas in it part from the massive wait food was great

Had hot and sour soup which was very good. Pork curry was okay but portion was small considering expensive pricing for a main course.

This has been on our "must do" list every summer when we come for a holiday to the local area for the last 4 years. Clearly under new ownership since last year as there were so many changes and sadly not all for the better. When our main course came out one was missing - the order for this had clearly not gone through but instead of someone telling us there would be a delay in it coming from the kitchen the staff just kept saying "it's just coming" - when it arrived a good 5 minutes after the others the waitress who brought it out apologised profusely but the lack of communication needs to be addressed. It turned out the delayed dish was not even properly cooked but because it had taken so long to get to the table we didn't tell the staff. The main course I had ordered was unlike any version of Kung po chicken I have ever had before - tasted okay but not what I was expecting. During our dessert the plates were cleared away before everyone had finished - there is very obviously a lack of staff training which detracted from our experience - not sure we will be going back.

Good quality fresh food. The special lunch menu is limited choice but very good and you always have the choice of a la carte.

We have been regular customers of Maxin for years but are very disappointed in the recently reopened restaurant. We ordered Honey BBQ chicken and lemon chicken with fried rice to takeaway.The honey chicken was very thin trips of poor thin chicken which was hard and had the skin still attached -not crispy and fresh or battered despite the description being of deep fried.The sauce was like watery tomatoes and soggy PakChoi leaves in it .This went on the bin -not worth £7 for this .The Lemon chicken was better but half the meal was pineapple so a cheap way to fill the container and barely any lemon sauce .Again poor value for money.

Visited for the first time since re opened. Looks really good and staff very friendly. Enjoyed our meal it was very good and all freshly made. Starters were very good also. Wine choices not so good for me personally although enjoyed what we had. I am more into French and Italian wines. In all a very

great place for couples and family. Lovely friendly staff. A varied menu of chinese and asian dishes will have your mouth watering and wanting more. It can be a busy restaurant at nights and weekends so better to book ahead.

The clues were there from the minute we booked, told by the restaurant would need the table back at 7.30pm our booking was for 6pm, ordered the only bottle of red wine on the red wine menu absolutely no choice only 1 choice, the waiter dropped the tray resulting in the glasses smashing onto our table resulting in me getting a finger cut trying to brush the shards of glass off my trousers, was given a plaster table cleared awaiting starters. 45min wait for starters, restaurant not busy at this time and no explanation of delay, starters very tasty however mains were a massive disappointment, staff not very attentive, under staffed, no wine choice, no offer of apology, so sad as we loved maxin before the take over.

Food was excellent and good portions. First time in a few years but glad to say that it is night and day to what it has been since it was taken over by new management

came over from Edinburgh for the a night out. went to New Maxin Chinese restaurant for a meal and was very impressed, the food we had was excellent and the staff were very friendly. would defiantly recommend and will defiantly be back across the forth to go to the New Maxin again

We used this restaurant regularly and enjoyed the food, service was sometimes a hit or a miss. The restaurant has been closed for a few weeks and only opened again on 10th May under new ownership, we have been waiting on it reopening and really looked forward to having a takeaway tonight which is what we done.

Used to love this place many years ago. Not impressed at all on this visit. Won't be back.

Excellent place to eat very friendly staff and great tasting food and reasonable prices

My son in law and I had an excellent evening meal here last Friday. Highly recommended. We went before Milton Jones was on at the Adam Smith Theatre. Most enjoyable, as was Milton Jones.

We went here on Xmas eve and I have never been so disappointed I don’t know if this place has changed hands because normally this is a good restaurant but the service and food was disgusting the starter came over fried squid and the prawns in rice paper came as butterfly prawns in breadcrumbs the main course was even worse I had to send back the crispy beef as it was grey squares of beef in a thin pale batter with a small cup of sweet n sour sauce disgusting they couldn’t wait to get rid of people because they had so many takeaway orders seriously if you can’t cope don’t do it I won’t be back for a while put me right off Chinese food

Great food & atmosphere although felt a little cold...heating needed turned up a bit. Lovely polite helpful staff. Love this restaurant, especially for lunch. Can't wait to go back! Also visited for sisters birthday & they were very helpful in bringing out cake etc

We come here at least once a fortnight and have never been disappointed yet,the staff make you feel special and will help you choose even if it means giving extra plates so you can share and taste each other’s, nothing is too much trouble and you can guarantee you’ll always leave knowing you will deffo be back

We visited Maxin's as was staying at the Strathearn hotel & had heard great reviews. The restaurant was clean & had lovely decor. The staff were efficient & friendly. The meals were very well priced. We didn't wait long at all before out meal was served. We had a sizzling dish which was brought out & then the dish put on the sizzler which was lovely to watch. Our meals were very tasty & we thoroughly enjoyed them. Would highly recommend Maxin's & would definitely go back.

It's always a pleasure to eat at Maxin's. The food is lovely, hot and very tasty. My wife has wheat /gluten allergies and the staff are very informative as to what ingredients are in the food. There are many options and when in doubt just ask...the staff are always a help.

La carne en el plato estaba bien aunque satay Este lugar está bien si quieres una comida barata de comer pero prefiero cocinar mi propio. Lo siento.

Estado aquí un par de veces para comer un sábado en familia, así lo hemos intentado un par de cosas diferentes. Que es todo lo bueno de la sopa de fideos con pollo. Las costillas chili. El pollo chow mein el satay (mi favorito) y la de la currys dulce y agria. No comimos mal todavía. Mi hijo se va menú de 2 platos 8. 00 3 cursos 9. 00 y tiene la sopa caliente y amarga que él ama. El banana buñuelos son buenas, como pudin. El proyecto de ley para 3 de nosotros esta vez con 3 campos y el café era de 36. 00 no se puede quejar para almorzar con 3 coca colas. Increíble relación calidad-precio y grandes porciones.

Visitamos el sábado pasado y fue sentado bastante rápidamente por una señorita muy agradable. Los camareros podrían haber hecho sonriendo un poco, parecía un poco seco. La comida estaba bien pero nada especial. Muy decepcionado no tomó tiempo para preguntar si la comida estaba bien o si necesitábamos más bebidas. No es el mejor servicio que hemos experimentado.

Food and staff were amazing definitely worth a visit. The beef satay with cashew nuts was lovely the rice was light and fluffy my friend had beef in a black bean sauce and noodles it was also very good. Highly recommend

Nice food although quite expensive for what it is.

We have been visiting this restaurant for many years now and are pleased to report that the standards are as high as ever. We turned up without booking and were quickly shown to a table. The service throughout was excellent and the food was first class as ever. There is an extensive menu of Chinese food and some European dishes too. We have never had a bad meal in this restaurant, either eating in or by takeaway. This continues to be our first choice for Chinese food in the town. Not the cheapest but well worth the extra few pounds.

Disappointing Chinese restaurant in High St with lots of competition. Nothing bad about the food - just not memorable.

Came here after looking for a Chinese in the area and saw it had good reviews. Food was excellent I had the won gin to start which were juicy and tasty. Followed by need Szechuan for main which again was full of flavour. Great value and good service. Only complaint portions were large but there are worse things. If I am.back in the area I will be back as a huge menu I Can't wait to work through.

Ok so restaurant has had an update and new interior. It is too there credit as establishment looks great.But speaking of business, let's get down to it. New Maxin is not far different from old Maxin in which staff will treat you equal and fairly the moment you open the door.Staff take your drink order and then your food order. Menu often consist of 3 course at a very affordable budget. Portion sizes are well worth the money.An advantage of this restaurant is it is located at start of Kirkcaldy high street making it very easy to find. This restaurant also offers takeaway service which is very fast and prompt.Above all which ever service you choose, both have the same results. Fast and high quality food that will leave you always coming back for more.Time to meet the new boss ; )Scott Rolland

Went on Saturday 17 Dec as a group of 6 who meet up for posh nosh each Christmas but fancied something "different from tradition" this year. The food here was outstanding and backed with attentive and friendly service. Hadn't been before but will definitely be back.

Very tasty and huge portions. Staff were very attentive and we would gladly go back next time we visit.

I am a regular diner in Maxin, we were in with a group of Friends on Friday 2nd December; food was poor, don't know if they have a new chef ?, certainly not the standard we have come to expect. Everything seemed a bit rushed, we were the last group in the restaurant when we left, circa 10pm.

Went here spur of the moment....slightly strange experience on entering...one guy on phone, other guy ignored us. Waited a few minutes and a nice woman approached....seemed like we might be treated like potential customers...."have we booked? ".... We hadn't. That seemed a problem.....even though there were at least 6 empty tables in main restaurant! The guy who ignored us on entry....grudgingly it seemed said " all we have is in there"...and pointed to a not so convivial area at front door that is screened off from the other area. Still.... It looked clean and tidy...so we took it. Have to say that was the worse part of the visit...food was fantastic. Service was very good and attentive. Decent sized menu...and reasonable comparable prices. As mentioned... Clean and tidy restaurant as well. So....giving it very good....would have been excellent if we had been treated properly on arrival. And the empty tables were still empty when we left...no real need to be shoved out of sight! Still recommended though!!

Went on a Friday evening my wife and myself. We didn't book a table as it was on the spur of the moment decision to go for a meal. I have to say I was not disappointed, the service was really good and prompt, the meals were hot and delicious, ate until nearly bursting point. Will definitely be going back some time.

The servers were amazing ad couldn't do enough for you, but also did not hoard around. The food was amazing, especially the duck pancakes with hoisin sauce. I could not recommend this restaurant enough for families, couples and friends who may want to try something a little different.

We are regulars at New Maxing because of the wheat free selection. The staff are well informed about what is in the food and do not hesitate to ask the Cook or special requests. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. The food is lovely and prices fair.New Maxin will always be a favorite.

Returned to the restaurant to see if it had improved, as I said I said in my first review, things were not as they should be, because the restaurant is close to home, I wanted it to be good for convenience sake. It was really nice and I'm glad to say I'll be returning, btw the ribs are seriously good.

Been to this restaurant several times recently and have always found the food tasty and served piping hot, although some of the dishes are a bit too sweet for my liking. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. Staff very welcoming and efficient. Restaurant and toilets nice and clean.Lunch set menu is good value. There's also a set 3-course Dinner menu at £36 for two people served Mon - Thur evenings which include a glass of wine each.Only gripe would be the price of a "pint" of lager, charged £4.50 and is canned lager and not on draught - way too expensive!!

We have not found a better Chinese Restaurant in Kirkcaldy.We had a warm welcome from friendly staff and service was prompt.The menu was extensive and we enjoyed the Fried Rice meals.The restaurant was spotless and the toilets clean.We resolved to return.When a restaurant is busy,you know it is good!

Went here around a week ago, both me and my partner had peeking ribs to start which was a big portion for starter really tasty enjoyed every bit, had mix meat curry with fried rice and partner had chicken curry also with fried rice 2 drinks free prawn crackers at the table £35. Couldn't complain tbh food was tasty hot and fresh what we left we got boxed up to take home. By far the best Chinese around kdy nowadays. Will be back..
