Friendly welcome and seated quickly. The 6 of us decided to have the special banquet £25.95pp. Meal consisted of 5 courses in toltal- combo starters, soup, crispy duck 5 different mains and pudding being ice cream or banana/apple fritters. Dinner served on a huge lazy susan which was so easy given the amount of food served. Excellent service and will be returning.

Went to this restaurant for the second time one Thursday evening.the restaurant was very quiet with only about three tables taken but it was mid week.the food was very good we decided to just have soups and starters.salt and chilli ribs were delicious and so was the crispy duck and pancakes. The service was very good and friendly I think it was the owner who served us and he never stopped smiling and cracking jokes.we will definitely visit again next time in Southport.

This restaurant serves illegal shark fin soup! Very disappointing. Won’t be visiting this restaurant ever again. It shouldn’t even be allowed to be open

Constantly told my mother in law not to visit this restaurant but she just wouldn’t listen. Now spent 2 weeks in hospital with food poisoning after eating prawns here on bank holiday Monday in May. The place is filthy and you only have to look at the shiny trousers and waistcoat worn by the person in charge to understand have bad it is. Not worth a 1 star food hygiene rating, can’t understand why it’s allowed to trade, it’s disgusting. Needs reporting to environmental health. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

It was a very good visit. We were visiting Southport just for the afternoon. We called into this restaurant as we had been a couple of years ago. The food was very nice and tasty, the staff were all superb.

Went for early bird meal, food really bland, nothing seemed clean, waiters clothes very dirty, leaning across table to pass food over, not going around, food nearly ended up on elderly friends lap!! Would not be going back, or recommend to anyone.

Had a takeaway from here, staff were very nice and attentive. We got home and the food was very bland, no flavour. All the dishes had the same bland taste. Black bean sauce - bland Vermicelli - no spice or flavour. Duck spring rolls - poor and the sauce had lumps of sugar in it. Sorry but won't be returning there

We ordered a banquet for 2 sas. take away. My husband collected it and brought it home. On opening the bags we were very disappointed. The ribs were so dry that we could not eat them. The chicken had been deep fried to the extent that they could not be eaten either. The crispy duck again was over cooked and dry. The mains were something else. The beef dish the portion was so small that it wasn't even half a portion. The rice was plentiful and so we're the prawn crackers. Finally the toffee apples were the size of lemons and so thick in batter and stuck together in the container. We paid £42 for a meal that we could.only half eat. Very disappointed. We have had banquets from there before and they were lovely. I think the chef was having an off day.

Went to this restaurant on Mother’s Day,we hadn’t booked a table but they managed to squeeze us in as it was very busy. The food was delicious,we had the Mother’s Day set banquet at £19-95 a head (excellent value). The service was very good and very friendly,we would definitely visit again next time in Southport.

Fantastic service and amazing quality food. We had the 3 course set lunch @ £8.95, wow wow wow !!! Portions are huge and plentiful. We had soup, sizzling steak Cantonese, curry beef, sizzling chicken black bean and a pork chow mein, banana fritters to finish. Highly recommend this restaurant, really couldn’t fault anything.

Visited with 5 friends. Seated promptly and drinks ordered taken. We decided to have the special banquet at £24.95pp. Did not have to wait long for our first course to come. Banquet served as a combo starter with usual ribs, toast spring rolls, followed by either chicken & sweetcorn or sweet and sour soup. Main was four mains and rice. I think pudding was ice cream. If you’re celebrating a Birthday a fuss is made with waiters coming out and singing happy Birthday. Had no problem with the food and service was really friendly.

Staff were lovely with the exception of the male owner who was very rude! Lunchtime menu was reasonable, however I wasn't happy at paying £9 for a tiny portion of ribs that were so deep fried they were unedible! Have been come here for years but today was an embarrassment!

Not be here for about 2 and a bit years and it never failed to impress me however I can’t say that any more, we had the banquet and most of the food was tasteless I am so disappointed may be it was a one off but didn’t enjoy it one bit. For start the spring roals were inedible and as a veteran they included pork but it was okay because my friend told me. The drinks were terrible that diet coke was flat and tasted like it was combined with water.

Arrived for meeting at lunchtime, greeted by staff and shown to table. Noticed not many fellow guests, which surprised as thought due to season, it might be fuller. The lunchtime menu/drinks etc came quickly,drinks were ordered soon after to English staff, with lunch order taken by Chinese " manager ". menu was extensive, with wide choice of starters/ meals etc. with prices on lunch menu ranging from £5.95 for 1 course, with each additional course an extra £1.00. Meal itself was delivered quickly,fresh, and satisfactory.

We went for a Christmas night out at New China City the food was amazing. The service was second to none. They had a singer on and he was great. We will be going again we had such a good night .

Visited Friday 8th November 2019. Staff pleasant. Starter of Dim Sum Platter was truly awful and should have only been offered to a bin. Main courses were bland and boring. Frankly this was probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Not cheap food either. I suspect that the issue here is a chef that doesn't care having lost his mojo. I'd love to see a celebrity chef turn up with a film crew and show them how to do it properly. I imagine Gordon would be quite expressive regarding the food. Be warned some of the food served here was inedible.

Great service! They waited on us hand and foot. There was hardly anyone else in the restaurant so the waiter stood near the desk and watched us eat which was a bit disconcerting. On the whole we loved the service because they brought a warmer tray to keep the food from getting cold and a finger bowl of warm water and lemon so we could wash our fingers. Great when you are eating the duck with pancakes (egg roll wrappers actually).

We spent couple of nights in Southport to enjoy the fresh air, promenade and beaches. Looked this restaurant up on Trip Advisor and whilst it wasn’t busy, it had a few diners in and I have say the food and service was exceptional.

Went here for the first time with a family group. Some of the party ordered the set menu and some of us ordered other dishes from the menu. All the food was good, particularly the seafood platter.

Went here twice during the week. First time was okay and the food reasonable quality so decided to try it again a couple of days later. Again very cheap off the early bird menu but this time the food was terrible. Maybe a different cook : who knows??

I visited for lunch with my daughter. The three course deal at £7.45 is a bargain. Food was good. Portion sizes were generous and the service was very efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

Happened to be staying very nearby and it appeared pleasant enough. It’s actually quite spacious and the staff are very welcoming. I preferred the full menu rather than all sorts of derivatives . My criticism would be that their drink is rather overpriced and a draught beer or two on offer wouldn’t go amiss. The starters especially the salt and pepper aubergine were excellent, veg spring roll not bad either. The prawn crackers were ok too with a couple of sauces, the chilli one being superior to the sweet and sour. The King Prawn Curry was very tasty, but the squid was excellent, not battered, not tough and really delicious. Came away very satisfied that the food is a cut above and the service very good, though I sort of lost track re changes in waiting staff throughout, but they all did a very good job.

What can I say absolutely amazing place for a Chinese meal.

Beef and tomatoes with boiled rice was £8.45 so not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. Packed in plastic boxes for leaf-proof carrying. Service was quick.

Definitely the best Chinese food in Southport. The staff are very attentive. The place is spotlessly clean. The menu is varied and all cooked fresh to order. Only one niggle - do they really need to bang pan lids when celebrating customers' birthdays ? This can be very intrusive when you're trying to chat.

Not been here for many years so thought we’d give it another try over the new year weekend with friends. Sadly only ours and one other table for two in the restaurant all evening so lacked any atmosphere. Menu was varied, with the usual meals provided. But I wasn’t blown away with the meal. Will be back at our usual Chinese next time.

Extensive menu so probably not doing the restaurant justice as we had the lunchtime special but a little bit disappointing. Dim Sum was ok but ribs were bland, chewy and very little meat. The Sui Mai were good though with solid texture and flavour. I had pork chow mein and the meat was reheated and overall the dish lacked flavour needing soy sauce to enhance it. Pineapple fritters Ok without being special.

This was the first time I have visited this restaurant, although my wife has visited it at lunch time on many occasions. We had the 2 course lunch time menu for £5.95. it was tasty well presented and more than enough for a lunch time meal. Very pleasent staff and cosy surroundings will definately come again.

Husband and I visited on Friday evening whilst staying in the Vincent hotel around the corner. We had the banquet for 2 priced at 19.95 per head, wow how much food there was! I disappointedly couldn't finish my main, hubby tried to finish mine but was already so full after his own. Atmosphere was lovely, staff were friendly and very pleasant. Would definitely visit here again if in Southport, it's a must!

Had lunch with a friend here. 2 Courses consisting of Soup and Beef green peppers in black bean sauce with prawn crackers. All for £7.50! Food was tasty. If you have drinks i.e beer then the cost will soar but as a cheap lunch it is good value for money.

Two of us had special lunch here, superb, then returned next day for the evening banquet for two. Food was excellent and plentiful, served piping hot by the caring owner. Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

It was our anniversary. We went for a night out and found this nice place round the corner from Lord Street. The staffs were excellent, when ever you need something theres always one close by, and the food was delious ; we had the mixed starter, the ribs were beautiful and juicy. Yummy

The vegetable spring rolls were cold in the middle. The beef with ginger and spring onion tasted bland and my wife's chicken and cashew nuts only had one cashew nuts in the dish. When we told the manager/owner he said "Ok you get more nuts next time". Not even an apology. Well guess what there won't be a next time. Do not waste your money in this place

As a person with coeliac disease, all restaurant's make me extremely nervous, but of all the cuisines, Chinese food makes me the most anxious, as there are so many ways to gluten me, well I've now found a gluten free friendly Chinese restaurant in New China City, Wendy and Ming the hosts have an good understanding of gluten free meals, and the importance of making sure there is no cross contamination, and the food is the best in Southport, please, if you have a intolorence make sure you discuss it before ordering your meal and they will try their very best to accommodate you.

I can't believe we have lived nearby for so many years and not been here before.from the second we walked in we got a feel for how much the staff cared about providing excellent service. Our daughter desperately wanted to use the chopsticks and the lady who was looking after us showed her how she learned and tied them together for her. This was obviously a family oriented place. We ordered a banquet and every dish was perfect and plentiful. We didn't have the dessert as we were too full! We will definitely be back again.

Went here one night as our hotel dining experience was poor! Out of the frying pan into the fire. Ordered 3 starters to share between 2. Told one would be a 15-20minute wait, which wold have been fine if it had turned up at all! No explanation for it's non-appearance but it wasn't on the bill so... Mains were sweet & sour pork and lamb with garlic & mild spicy sauce both with rice. The pork was okay but nowt to write home about. The lamb dish....well if you could determine what the meat was then you're a better person than me but if it was lamb then I'm a monkey's uncle!! Completely tasteless to boot! Extremely disappointing! Best bit was the bottle of wine and that was £20!!!

Five of us decided to go to The New China City to celebrate one of our friend's birthday, I’m glad we did. On arriving we were warmly greeted and escorted to our reserved table, by the owner Mr Ming. We all went for the banquet, it was delicious, well cooked, well presented and there was a lot of it. I took a birthday cake and a bottle of Prosecco with me, I informed Mr Ming when I made the reservation that I would be doing so and he had no objection. At the right time Mr Ming brought out the cake and Prosecco to the accompaniment of “Happy Birthday” with the staff joining in banging pots. I would like thank Mr Ming and his staff for making it a memorable evening….

A group of us ate here on a Wednesday evening. There were virtually no other diners so the service was good. We ordered the largest set menu banquet it’s a lot of food! Starters were a mixture of spring rolls, seaweed, ribs, prawn toast and satay sticks all very nice without being exceptional. A choice of soups followed the hot and sour soup was very tasty. Next we had crispy duck with pancakes this I felt was disappointing the duck was very very crispy and dry and the hoisin sauce was thin and watery. The selection of mains came with rice and there was plenty to go round. For those who who wanted it there was also ice cream. We washed it all down with Chinese beer. The overall feel was that we all enjoyed the food but it could have been better.

I first ate here when they were round the corner on Lord Street over 25 years ago and it was brilliant. Then it moved to its current location and we started coming as a family with young children and the meals were always happy occasions with lovely food in a great atmosphere. We didn't come for a few years and started coming again last year, since when we have had a few meals there. On each occasion, such as the recent one, the food has been lovely. I usually worry about a restaurant with too big a menu, but somehow it works. If you study the menu there are some dishes which you might expect in an average Chinese takeaway, a lot of average Chinese restaurant dishes and some more authentic dishes such as the pork with preserved vegetables (which had been velveted beautifully). They were also very happy to adapt dishes. For food, this remains my go to restaurant in Southport and I'll be sure to book to eat there again next time I'm in town.

if you are in southport and you like the traditional style chinese ....a bit like they were in the sixties is how i would describe the new china...well we have been in here a few years ago it was good then and is just as good now....we had the lunchtime 3 course special at £6.95 it is great value....the place is super clean and comfortable...the staff and service are the best ever...what more can you say....we are not complainers.....nothing to complain about here....if i had to rate it out of ten....well it's a ten from len.

We ate here on 23 May and although I have eaten here in the past the pace has gone downhill. I had the salt and pepper ribs which are normally delicious however they were served with thick batter and breadcrumbs!!! It could be a new chef but most of my meal was badly cooked. Had a banquet there were 5 of us but just got a banquet for 4 and this was more than enough. The food was excellent the attention of the staff was as always very good always checking that we were enjoying. Mains were piping hot and gorgeous. My wife and Ivisited southport for the first time, and went to look at the covered market (very disappointing!) but on leaving it I spotted the lunch menu on display. Immediate deja vu - We're originally from the South of England, and used regularly to take advantage of bargain priced "business lunches" in Chinese restaurants down there. The prices looked very good, the menu choices looked promising, so we went in and were rapidly directed to a table. We both had the chicken and sweetcorn soup (note to other diners, it's SUPPOSED to be "bland!") My wife then chose Chop Suey, and I chose duck with noodles, both arrived promptly, quantities were generous, the food was slightly under-seasoned, for my pallette, but otherwise delicious. I took a walk down memory lane by finishing with a pancake fritter, - a slice of fresh pineapple dipped in tempura batter and deep fried, then served with a generous helping of what seemed to be a warmed mixture of honey and golden syrup. Absolutely delicious. Several other customers arrived during our meal, and they appeared to be repeat custom, greeting the waiting staff as old friends. We've previously eaten in Chinese restaurants all over China - Xi'an, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai... This was as good a meal as we'd had in most, We'll almost certainly return on our next visit to Southport. Prices for a couple of cold Carlsberg lagers were pretty much as expected for a restaurant. The WHOLE MEAL cost £17 including drinks.
