As someone who loves a burger I can't recommend the amsterdam enough. I ordered the Chicken Stack and it was a big stack of burger! Delicious! The staff were great and it's a good looking / feeling pub too. Highly recommend.

Had a brilliant roast here last Sunday with friends. Beef was tender, crispy roast potatoes, everyone gets stuffing and Yorkshire pud. Oh, and it was huge... Meant to take a photo but was so excited I just dug in, I'll definitely be back so I'll take one then!

As regular diners at the across-the-road Corner House, this reincarnation of The Swan (hence the very nice swan-themed stained glass windows) still has a way to go. It's picked up some of the regular drinkers off The Alexandra (Sunday diners like us included), since chef Darren and host Chris departed for The Little Ship in Portland. We'd never visited The Swan before (and we are locals) due to its rep as being mainly for regular drinkers, so, having picked up a discount flyer to promote its new ownership as the New Amsterdam, we wanted to try it out.First impression was - was this a Goth hang-out? It is very self-consciously DARK inside! Having advertised food, it doesn't yet at time of writing do Sunday roasts. As we were trying it midweek with a view to taking friends there on a Sunday, that idea went out. But, in case the old traditional scoff was good, we opted for a starter of drinks and olives, Bitterballen, then fish and chips. Very pleasant young man (Joel) served us. The White Zinfandel and Peroni were just fine, olives were pitted, nicely marinated, and there were loads of them! The Bitterballen - our first - were very tasty. I could eat double the serving as a mains. The fish and chips were a tad disappointing as the batter was a little greasy and mine was hard as a brick at one end. Chips were okay, not fab, but plentiful. If you're indoors, as we were on a rainy day, you cannot see outside. There HAVE to be lights, and apparently the old candles in bottles isn't just for decoration! Bearing in mind that the decor seems to be based on the Addams Family mansion, l'd say this will be a boring experience for people with young children, as they can see nothing of interest. It's not got any interesting or unusual features (sorry, but a bit of brick doesn't do it for me), and for sitting out watching traffic I'd opt for the Corner House or the Cow and Oak near the Steyne! If the pub aims for mainly drinkers, l think it will meet that remit, although the spacious Corner House absorbs both just gluggers as well as diners in a light, family and dog oriented out and indoor space. The prop has no plans to install a tv, which means it won't be showing sport, as per The Alex, and thankfully has no slots, games rooms, or other distractions. If you like your interiors to feel darkly enclosing, New Amsterdam will suit. Overall, it's not our style, but it doesn't mean it won't suit other folk. But l wouldn't take your kids with you, or go if you mind feeling very much indoors.

We tried the New Amsterdam yesterday and have to say that we had an amazing cheese board , good wine and the beer was good, we were made very welcome by the owner so much so we went back after our Chinese to listen to a good Irish band . They also had great customers who were happy to make room for new comers . Can’t wait to try there food once the new chef arrives

Two pubs face each other across a busy traffic intersection--the Corner House and New Amsterdam. I walked into the Corner House first, but there was a hold-up at the bar so I decided to try my luck elsewhere. I came across the New Amsterdam purely by chance, noticing the pub garden full of people. Deliciously cool on a hot day, thanks to a lazily revolving ceiling fan, the dim interior is just the place to sit down and slake one's thirst. The ceiling is a deep olive green and the floorboards are painted black. There are a few maritime-themed prints on the walls and on the left past the long bar there are two stained-glass windows depicting swans. Some of the furniture consists of chairs that have once been in a church, with pockets for hymnbooks at the back and crosses cut out of the back rests. There are also wooden settles and a characterful old brick fireplace. The music was well chosen and not too loud. The arched windows and the glazed entrance are attractive.I enjoyed my South Downs mineral water, locally sourced near Emsworth. Most of the customers had chosen to sit out in the sunny lawned garden, which has quite a happy atmosphere. They did not seem at all deterred by the proximity of the traffic.I particularly appreciated the fact that there were no bright, glaring lights in the pub. This is definitely my sort of place.I note that there is a slightly hipster vibe.Would definitely return on another visit to Worthing.

Read a few reviews on TripAdvisor so decided to give the place a go. Menu consists of 4 burgers: meat, chicken, vegetarian and one other. There are a number of side dishes also available. The burgers are wonderful, with excellent fries. Wife found the burgers too large, perhaps they could offer a burger with only one patty. The only other suggestion would be slightly larger plates: the food is crammed on, leaving some of the food in danger of falling off.For a really cheap meal go on a Wednesday as a burger and drink is only £10.

Ate here for the first time today. My partner and I rarely get a day off together so thought we would go for lunch and it exceeded all our expectations. Both the chicken burger and beef burger were massive and delicious. We left with full stomachs and smiles! If we didn’t come in the car, we would have definitely sampled more than a few of the gins on offer but we had a cafetière of coffee instead, which was really nice quality! The atmosphere in this place is really on point, cosy and comfortable.

Really nice change of pace for this pub. The veggie burger is amazing, there’s a decent drink selection and the garden is lovely despite being next to a main road. The decor inside is a bit dark especially during the day - but this doesn’t matter come evening time. Fun pub quiz too!

Live in Worthing, ecstatic to have found a place in my town that serves neck oil, Murphy's and some of the best burgers I've tasted. Decor is shabby, but in a good way, like it has been naturally worn in and gives it an ambience different to any pub in the area. Was there til late on Saturday playing cards and board games and spent most of Easter weekend in the big, South facing garden. Certainly beats the swan, with it's stinky toilets and 5 regulars giving you evils as you walk through the door!

Always liked the swan,a good honest proper pub. The decor now is bland and dreary. No atmosphere, Very noisy, rubbish lager, dirty tables and floors, no ambience and it all looks like someone needs to come back and finish the job, including the garden-I use that term loosely!!No return visit for us!

Without doubt the best burgers in town. The fish burger is a stroke of genius and the beef and chicken burger are immense, well balanced and delicious. The macaroni cheese was the best I've tasted in ages, juicy and full flavoured. The menu is limited which is almost always a good thing. The renovation of this 19th century Inn(formerly the swan) has been stylishly done, minimalistic and chic. The large garden has had the promising beginnings of a makeover(they're going for a wild, secret garden style). They have an excellent selection of beers and cider. Having spoken to the owners, they have an interesting and exciting event schedule planned for the future. Definitely worth a visit.

We popped in to see how it was now and we were somewhat disappointed. Although recently revamped it already looked scruffy and quite gloomy due to the dark paint everywhere. The Murphys was OK but the wine was average at best. There's a small menu if you want Burgers and sides and they are dog friendly, so that's a plus.

Try and aI was sceptical about the revamp of the Swan but was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. The beer is still excellent, the decor is better and more modern. The menu is fairly small but really good The burgers are fab and haloumi and dip was just devine, Staff are welcoming and are working hard to make this work. It is certainly worth visiting.

The New Amsterdam has a spacious yet cosy feel to it with a dark colour scheme and soft lighting. There is a feeling of modernity without it feeling sterile or deliberate, it’s as if it was always there and you’ve only just found it!There’s a great selection of beers from the standards like Heineken & Amstel to newer offerings from Beavertown Brewery. But in terms of stuff you put in your face my favourite element has to be the food. The pub has a concise menu that you want to see in this context. It’s fun food, the Burgers are generously upholstered and taste great!I think this pub will really flourish in the good weather as it also features a big, south-facing garden too.I will be there often.

I love this new pub. The food is really delicious, and the portions are extremely generous and very well priced. Nice to see somewhere that takes pride in the bar snacks as well as main meals - the bitterballen are amazing! Its lovely to have a spacious beer garden to sit in - there was plenty of room for our large group. Also very happy to see Murphys on the drinks menu as you rarely see it in pubs! Definitely try this pub!
