First time here. I booked a Spa treatment, thermal journey and overnight stay for my daughter's birthday. It was her first Spa experience. The location is beautiful, what a lovely and charming hotel. The staff were polite and helpful. The reason for my rating is because the Spa was not up to standard. The plunge pools were hogged by other guests (one plunge pool can fit two people at a time of medium build). So we had to wait a while. Once in, the bubbles raised up all the dirt, grass and what looked like dead skin, it was so gross. The evening meal was not good. My daughter ordered the tofu noddles. It was just salt water, all you tasted was salt/soy sauce. Not nice. I feel 3 stars is therfore fair. I will not be using the Spa there again though...

This is a great place if you're looking for a weekend break without the noise and fuss. Open fires, friendly staff and good food. Set in the quiet quaint Grange Over Sands, overlooking the bay and within 5 mins walk on the local café/ shops.

Humongous potential. Sadly not realised, with a pathetic supermarket style sandwich offering And I'm being rude to most supermarkets there.

Haven't stayed overnight but have used the spa and restaurant here. Spa was lovely, I even went in the cold dip! Hot tubs, sauna, steam rooms and treatments available. Very chilled. Restaurant nice place for a soup and sandwich afterwards.

Went here for the spa which was lovely, staff very friendly and professional. Facilities in the spa were good although there is no large pool just plunge pools. Downside was the changing rooms were very hot, we were all dripping with sweat trying to get changed afterwards. We also had lunch here and the food was lovely but just like regular pub grub.

Lovely old hotel full of character with great views over Morecambe bay. Friendly helpful staff. Set well back from a very quite main road with lots of parking.

Really lovely location, and views. Interior decor of the hotel is very traditional Manor house style, with very nice features. Some great outdoor seating to make the most of the views on a summers evening too. There have been one or two additions to the hotel that have a 1970's feel about them, such as the restaurant area which is a little disappointing. We were able to make use of the very modern spa facilities, with hottubs, plung pool, steam and sauna rooms and shower experience. Rooms were comfortable and clean although disappointing electric shower, and room 15 has probably the single worst view in the hotel, avoid if you can, missing out on the superb bay/sea view. Drinks are very expensive. Even local craft beer was £7.50. Our package included breakfast and evening meal. A good buffet breakfast was available but our evening meal was somewhat disappointing and quite pricey for what they were. The fact that we would eat elsewhere if we were staying for more than one night says it all. Reception and bar staff deserve a special mention for looking after us. Must also mention the 4 electric car chargers available at the front of the hotel, which were free for me.

Lovely building and grounds. Bedroom could do with freshing up wallpaper coming off wall and no dressing table and old shower. Room 5 view is ok though window drafty. Spa was ok could have done with some back ground chilling music.

I stayed here in February in a dog friendly room. The service was a bit lacking at the begining, ie I stood at reception as people ignored me for around 10 minutes so I just walked away and came back later. However, when I did come back, it was completely different, the staff were really nice, attentive, and we're very happy to help. I stayed on the third floor and the room was lovely. I sat in one of the lounges in the evening with my dog and just read which was amazing. Would highly recommend.

We had a lovely 2 night stay for my wife's birthday, staying in a superior room overlooking the bay, the room was large and the bathroom was clean and recently refurbished very nice. We had dinner in the hotel on one night which again was very good, not a good selection of beers though only lager offered. Breakfast was a buffet and on par with what we expected. The staff were all excellent. At checkout we had an unexpected service charge added to our bill apparently for using the restaurant for dinner, being on a pre paid 2 night stay I challenged this and it was instantly removed.

A step back in time to a more sedate and refined way of life. The staff were friendly, warm and persuasive, a drink turned into a meal that was hearty and did the trick. Will return.

The Hotel is very nice. But the room we had only a double bed and as my husband is over 6ft 2 the bed was a bit small.

The room was a little tired and quite cold, the staff did provide an oil filled heater which helped. Our room was on the top floor and after a day of exploring, 3 flights of stairs is a big ask for my old legs. The standard room didn't have a view and it was directly above the bins at the rear of the hotel. The clatter of bottles being discarded by staff was very loud and disturbed my sleep on few occasions.

Loved it . After a room change. Room 31 should be declined to to the proximity of the kitchen extractor fans. However the oak paneled reception rooms and tjier log fires and comfy couches are an exceptional place to spend a relaxing evening with a Malt whisky.

A lovely spa day location. Conspicuous period building that is elevated from the road, and this makes for an impressive approach. Lovely Spa staff. Great facilities and the treatments were of a good standard.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life, for a 30th birthday celebration courtesy of Lucy’s on a plate Ambleside! I honestly don’t know where to begin with this, maybe the appalling manager, slow service, bland overpriced food, not sure really but here we go. So we email this place the previous evening to our booking enquiring about a reservation for 2 people, we heard nothing until WE contacted them around 3/4pm the following day to be told “oh yes im just on with the bookings now and was just about to call you”which I didn’t believe but that’s fine, on the phone I explained it was a special 30th birthday meal for my partner as they asked were we celebrating an occasion. We were looking forward to our meal and arrived slightly early about 6.20 for a 7pm table, we thought we could maybe have a drink if they had a bar or somewhere to wait for the table. We were shocked to see the manager fumbling around with his booking sheet to clearly see he didn’t have our names down, just to write us in in front of him, he then makes a joke saying “that would of been embarrassing”yeah it certainly would have been embarrassing so not a great start at all, we sit down to read the menu and notice some essay on the front talking about the guests and what they were celebrating, no mention of my partners 30th birthday just a half arsed after thought saying hello Andrew and Rhianne, as we were clearly forgotten about. After looking at the menu we decided to go for 2 pork belly starters £12 each and lamb shank £28 and lamb tagine £24, starters came out pretty quickly around 10-15 mins so great, unfortunately BLAND!! The apple puree could of been anything as there was no flavour at all, no sweetness to balance the dish just the flavour or pork and a little black pudding Bon Bon, BLAND! Then we wait for almost 1 hour, yes 1 hour for the main, asking the waiting staff how long, got told if it’s not here in 5 mins I’ll go and punch the chef, yes haha very funny but just get me my food I wasn’t up for jokes by this time, then the mains come, my lamb shank was dry had next to no sauce or should I say gravy at all, the mash was lukewarm the veg the same and very undercooked, I’m all for al dente but this just wasn’t and a piece of parsnip no bigger then your little finger, this place is a long way off fine dining! I asked for some more sauce and was brought a gravy boat of wishy washy gravy that they must use on every dish! Honestly very similar to a bisto gravy, where’s the lamb flavour or the reduced stock to coat the lamb shank, absolutely nothing! My partner said the lamb tagine was lukewarm again but after waiting an hour we were so hungry we just ate it, she said the cous cous was just bland and had nothing special about it, she said the cous cous from Sainsbury’s ‘food on the go’ was much nicer, why is this when we’re paying all this money? We also noticed there was no check back to see how we were enjoying the food as tbh they just weren’t bothered! When our plates were cleared(25 mins after we had finished) we were asked was everything ok, I said hmm yeah ok to which the waitress replied “ok yeah” great and takes the plates. This is where I would of informed the manager that someone was not very happy and suggest they go and speak to them! I was very reluctant to say anything because I’m aware I’m celebrating my partners 30th and didn’t want to make a scene, after such terrible service and food we just couldn’t order a dessert as we weren’t going to give these people my more of our money, we receive the bill at £115 for 2 starters 2 mains and 2 drinks each one of those was non alcoholic. Very overpriced for the quality you receive. Then to top the night off I go to pay, this is where the manger really shows his lack of experience, from me counting out the money to pay he never once asked “how was your meal” how did your partner enjoy her 30th birthday celebration” nothing! Didn’t even say enjoy your evening, honestly I recommend you research this place before going here as it’s beyond bad!

Amazing hotel in a beautiful location. We stayed in three rooms as we were going to Hilltop the next morning. It’s literally Nextdoor so perfect if you’ve booked to visit the Beatrix Potter house. Rooms were lovely, comfortable and warm
