Holbeck Ghyll in South Lakeland

After a rather fierce walk in the beautiful Lake District we decided, spur of the moment, to stay overnight. We came across Holbeck Ghyll on our quick Internet search, called ahead and were told there was a room available. No fuss over the phone, simply turn up and everything was arranged when we arrived. I think the lovely lady at reception took pity on me and upgraded us to a magical room on the top floor with a separate 'snug' with window seat, overlooking Lake Windermere. No doubt something to do with my muddy bedraggled state, having taken a slide in the mud during our walk. Had a much needed bath in the room and went down for a drink in the bar. In the beautiful dining room we had the most amazing Chateaubriand we had in a long time, if ever. Chef cooked it to absolute perfection. Side dishes and sauce were top quality as well. At breakfast the next morning we had a lovely chat with Tom, the owner and fantastic host of the hotel. He knows a lot about the history and has a great vision of local produce and wider sustainability for the hotel. Oh and breakfast was very good as well. Go and see Tom and the team, you won't be disappointed.

A very beautiful place with stunning views of Lake Windermere. The whole complex was so dreamy! the greenery was very well maintained. A big thanks to Tom and Dan who were such gems, friendly and attentive :) The interior was very classy however it is very dated, the room had cracks along the ceiling, cobwebs, creaky floors and bathroom overall wasn't clean. It definitely needs a revamp but everything else was great!

It has a very beautiful location. 🏞️ The room is clean and tidy but rather old. The service is good. 👍 And there is magnificent peacock. 🦚

Perfect place for a weekend getaway

The location is absolutely stunning, offering breathtaking views of Lake Windermere right from our room. A hotel with authentic charm, with historic character perfectly preserved. I will recommend this hotelfor anyone looking for a peaceful, picturesque escape in the Lake District.

A real gem! We’ve been visiting the lakes for many years but so far, no hotel we’ve been to has the views on offer at Holbeck Ghyll. Breathtaking scenery out of every window. Rooms and lodges are well equipped and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. Food and restaurant are also top notch. And you get those views while you eat. It’s just a lovely place to be for a few nights.

Wow is the best way to describe this gem of a find. Stayed here to celebrate my mums 60th and from start to finish the staff couldn't do enough for us. Room was spot on number 3 and 23. Breakfast was superb, staff are super friendly, cleaner was very good and very friendly, they couldn't do enough to ensure our room was perfect. Grounds of this hotel are beautiful and the view, well, this is absolutely spectacular. There is nothing to complain about. If your looking for a real lake district stay, this is deffinately a place to visit. I will absolutely be returning here. Thank you all so much

Great place to stay. Just bring plenty of money it's expensive

We visited this hotel in the February half term and would have stayed longer had we have known how lovely it was.We stayed in one of the lodges and along with our Two dogs Ruby and Merlot we had a very enjoyable experience.We loved how they catered for the dogs with baskets blankets and biscuits for them on arrival. The staff were absolutely fab nothing too much trouble for them. We ate at the restaurant and the food was first class and the red malbecj wine nicest I've had for a while.We will definitely return maybe spring or summer as the hotel grounds were gorgeous and views stunning. Fabulous hotel , full of character. Service was great. A big thank you to Tom who from greating us to checking out was superb, thanks to all the team for looking after my wife and I.

This is our 6th time staying at Holbeck Ghyll and it never disappoints. The personalised customer service you receive from Tom, is second to none. He is a true gentleman. Nothing is too much trouble and his attention to detail is excellent. I would also like to mention Rowan who also delivered outstanding customer service during our stay. We stayed at Ghyll Side Cottage with an unspoilt view of lake Windermere both from the floor to ceiling window and the jacuzzi. We also dined in the restaurant sampling the excellent value 5 course tasting menu. I would highly recommend this trying this menu if you get the chance. Breakfast is always top quality with a beautiful view. We will certainly be returning again, thank you again for a lovely stay.

We visited for an afternoon cream tea my wife had bought as a birthday gift. Wow, the food was just lovely, with our own private room with a delightful view of the langdale pikes. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
