We had a family birthday meal here for 12 adults and 1 child and was asked to preorder food but on the night of the meal 2 adults had to take the child to a&e with respiratory problems and when I told the staff they said I still had to pay for the 3 meals even though they were at the hospital and 10 adults still had their meals, not wanting to cause a fuss on our family members birthday I paid and even though we have eaten there on a lot of occasions in the past we have not returned and nor shall we as the lack of compassion from the staff upset me and when our other guests found out they said they will not be returning either.

Usually excellent it was such a disappointing lunch last Friday. The jacket potato was hard as had been overdone in the microwave. We did get a sorry later on and that was it. In an hour no one came to ask if we wanted a sweet or coffee so we left and had one elsewhere. A real shame as usually good value is good food and good service.

We were on a visit to the area and our previously booked hotel had a wedding function during our stay and had advised of noise. We needed a good nights sleep so we looked for an alternative in the area. The Nelthorpe came up on Booking.com with a really competitive rate so we gave it a go. Accommodation: The rooms are basic but that doesn’t mean dated. They were modern, clean and comfortable and perfectly fine for our stay. We had a good nights sleep for both nights. Food: The food is probably the best pub food I’ve eaten in a long time. Well cooked and fresh and the portions are huge. Great value, quality and quantity. Staff: Can’t fault the staff at all. A warm reception and good vibes all around. Thank you Vicky, Anne Marie and Jacob. As well as all the other hard working staff whose names we did not get but were equally as friendly. Cannot recommend enough and will be our go to accomodation and pub when next in the area. Best wishes Chris and Tara

It is so difficult to find a REALLY good venue for Sunday Lunch. This is the best we have found in our area and it is really good. All well (or should I say perfectly) cooked. Fresh vegetables cooked properly, not cheap or frozen like many places. The staff are very good too, helpful and attentive. Will also do a few alterations from normal for you too.

We had just passed over the spectacular Humber Bridge, and found spectacular accommodation that this establishment. The staff were helpful, professional and very friendly, the bar and was quiet and comfortable with a very local friendly attitude, the beer was excellent. The restaurant, had a small menu with a number of weekly specials and we had no difficultly in finding something for our evening meal, the food was tasty, well cooked, generous portions and above all tasty. Three courses for two for just a couple of pence short of forty quid was exceptional value for money. The en suite rooms were of very good quality, well appointed, clean and quiet, with nice comfortable beds. This is a community run Hotel/Pub/Restaurant that is welcoming, comfortable, friendly and very good value for money, if you are in the area do give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Called for Sunday lunch after 6mile dog walk, to pre view for a ladies walking group to call in future we were assured the pub was dog friendly (this is only tongue in cheek) Sunday lunch was just average,When we asked for something for the dog I was abruptly told we don’t feed dogs the ladies walking group have never had that response throughout Lincolnshire (dog usually fed using a dog bowl or paper plate on floor) we found the pub to be unwelcoming an unfriendly, several pubs in and around Barton have been welcoming to the group and provided food for the dogs at reasonable cost, the Nelthorpe at south Ferriby won’t be a recommended venue for walking groups should go a few miles further to Barton to receive warmer welcome .Hi in response to your reply it’s more appropriate for you to say you’re not dog friendly if we’ve walked 6miles the dogs done 12 miles and would need a bit more than a dog treat we wouldn’t have come if that was made clear to us

Stayed one night on business. 15 minutes drive from central Hull across the Humber Bridge. Efficient booking, warm & friendly welcome. Room 2 is modern, warm & well maintained, well equipped with a comfortable double. Tea & coffee making facilities. Good WiFi. Small practical bathroom with walk-in shower. Very quiet village location with lots of free parking on site. Disappointing 'continental breakfast' - a variety pack size cornflakes and a pre-packaged pain au chocolate, plus hot water & milk - left outside the room for me. Overall very cost-effective, but I would have been prepared to pay more for a better breakfast. TV didn't work. Just came up with 'no signal'.

Enjoyed a comfortable, reasonably priced, overnight stay at this clean refurbished pub. Gavin the Landlord was very welcoming and all the staff were friendly. The room was a nice size with en suite bathroom. Unlike some pubs it was well away from the bar area so very quiet. Traditional pub food was served in the restaurant or snug and was excellent value. There was plenty of parking at the rear of the pub. Breakfast is limited but we were made aware of this when we booked.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights. We were given a warm welcome by Ann Marie - and a little later by Gavin, the landlord. Our bedroom (Room 2), was small, but cosy and well heated, with a modern, but compact toilet and shower. The whole pub was very clean and modern , having been revamped a few years ago. The dining room was very pleasant and there were a number of corners where you could have a quiet drink. We knew, before we booked that they do not serve a cooked breakfast(something that we enjoy when away). However, the continental breakfast, left outside the bedroom door was adequate. A cooked breakfast could be had at the local post office or Old Tile Mill, a few miles away. There is plenty of car parking space.

Myself & two friends tour round Lincolnshire & Yorkshire pubs & restaurants every month. The Nelthorpe arms is our first in this area & we were not disappointed. We ordered gammon, pineapple, egg with onion rings & peas. We all enjoyed this plateful of excellent food. Not many chefs get the gammon to this excellent standard. We also had raspberry cheese cake with ice cream ,which we all enjoyed. One of us had a sponge which he too enjoyed. We did compliment Vicki the chef on the gammon. The service was excellent. We didn't have to wait very long even though we were told they were quite busy in the front bar. We can recommend the Nelthorpe Arms.

Called in to try their new own brewed ales. Unfortunately my first choice of Dragon Slayer golden ale wasn’t in the best of condition. It was reluctantly replaced with a pint of their red ale but I also received an uncomfortable and unnecessary lecture from the landlord on beer tasting and the recipes they have decided upon to make their beers drinkable. On this occasion I think the customer was right because when I returned to the bar for a second pint of the red,the pump clip on the golden ale had been turned round to signify that it was off! I’ll plan my next visit to coincide with a CAMRA event when no doubt the knowledgeable landlord will have made sure all the cask ales are fresh and on ‘top form’🍺🍺🍺

Visited recently for Sunday Lunch. Was seated quite promptly, and drinks order taken. Drinks came quickly and food order then taken shortly after. Food was nice and hot, but just could have done with another veg as the ones offered were carrots, cabbage and cauliflower cheese. My partner’s fork was unclean but this was changed without any issues. Once finished, the food was taken away and we were advised of the deserts on offer. We were then left for over 20 mins, without anyone coming to see us to take our order. We then decided to just go to the bar to pay the bill instead, losing our appetite for desserts by this time. The waitress had said that we should have come down to the bar to give our order. If this was the protocol then this should have been said but because the remainder of the meal was waitress service, this was a little strange. Have no major desire to come back imminently, but would go again if passing and needed some food.

How this pub has got such positive reviews, god only knows...From the exterior it looks like an inviting village pub, however, the positives end there. The interior is painfully neglected, run down and in desperate need of thoughtful restoration. Furthermore, there was not even one cask beer on offer. All in all a truly depressing experience. If you are a discerning drinker who appreciates a traditional village pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, then I would suggest that you steer well clear of this tasteless dump.
