We were the only people dining and the service was excellent. We had Stacked Chicken lunch and it was lovely. Meal was still warm when we’d nearly finished - this place knows to serve food on heated plates to keep it warm. Highly recommend this place for lunch.

Our family meal out for mother’s day ruined (along with many other tables if the level of complaints were anything to go by). The service was very poor and the food when it finally did arrive was nothing to write home about. The length of time between courses and for plates to be cleared was just ridiculous. Our complaints got unreserved apologies but no attempt to improve the situation... to be told the reason for delays was ‘because of the carvery in the ballroom’ is unacceptable. We had booked table service in the main restaurant. The hotel should have had more staff to accommodate this. Most of our table ordered the roast beef main course and when it finally did arrive it looked like dried up cardboard! The mixed berry pavlova was basically cream with a single strawberry on top. Just can’t adequately put into words our disappointment ☹️ Don’t even want to give a rating of 1 but it will not accept zero.

I’m currently sitting eating my last meal at nelsons after being here for 3 weeks on business. What can I say the head chef and his team are exceptional cooks! Every night I’ve had stunning food. I’m fussy (as they will well know by now) and my requests have never been a problem. The food is lovely and filling and I would highly recommend coming for a meal here if you are in the area! Nothing is too much trouble for anyone. 5 stars from me & if I’m ever back in the area the fussyone will be coming back to pay a visit!

We had lunch here on a recent trip to Bangor . We ate in the bar and had great service from a very pleasant young waiter . The sarnies and soup were tasty and the sarnies freshly made . Chocolate cake ( which we shared ) was also yummy . The only thing that lets it down a bit is the somewhat tired decor .

Went here for dinner and was surprised how much fresher and better decorated this was to rest of the hotel. We had a table overlooking the harbour and there was a singer with a guitar who played all evening providing a welcome backdrop to the experience. There was three of us and we all had different meal selections. The main courses were all well received -fish and chips and pepper steak. One of the sweets - cake - was dry probably because it had been under the lights all day but otherwise edible. Teas and coffees were OK and the price was reasonable.

Breakfast is very poor so I just booked room only. Having been up since 4 and travelling all day I arrived at 8.20 pm I was too tired to go hunting for food in town so I tried the restaurant. Chefs soup of the day - vegetable - looked and tasted like baxters tinned. Chose the burger to keep things simple and also to get skinny fries. It came with fat chips, when I questioned it the waiter who comes across as sharp and abrupt said that they had no skinny fries for two days. Think he should have told me that when I ordered. I didn't eat them. The burger itself was ok but the cheese and bacon topping was really salty. I ate enough to quell my hunger. I won't be trying again.

My first impressions were the place smelt bad and it was dark and dingy. But as we had booked over the phone using our tastecard+ we decided to give it a chance. We ordered drinks which the waiter brought to us promptly. His manner was polite and affable. But this did not seem to soothe the people sitting next to us who had waited over half an hour for their food. They left a few minutes later - still hungry I might add.I thought perhaps they were just fussy - the complaining type. So we ordered our food and hoped for the best. Within the space of ten to fifteen minutes my beef bourguignon with mash appeared followed by my sons seafood risotto. The bourguignon was passable, the risotto was dreadful. Slimy, bland and covered in some sort of bitter unidentifiable salad leaves. There was also a piece of fried bread on the side. A heel. I suspect it was meant to be sundried tomato but it tasted like it had been flavoured with out of date ketchup. Three quarters of the way through my meal they brought me the root vegetables that were my chosen accompaniment. Perhaps they intended it as a dessert? The worst disappointment was yet to come. After booking via the tastecard, I then found out AFTERWARDS that they do not accept the Tastecard for the lunchtime menu. Only the A la Carte menu. Strange considering we had booked using the Tastecard for a lunch time booking that no one bothered to tell us until it was time to pay??? Their explanation was that it says clearly on the website that this is one of the terms of the offer. I found this hard to believe as I had been on the website only half an hour earlier and had seen no such thing. I paid FULL price even though I had booked with the 50% discount card and went home to check the website again. The bottom line is; NO ONE MADE THIS CLEAR. The website says: Please Note: The tastecard discount is not available on Celebration Days including Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc. The discount does not apply to the Sunday Roast menu.So I called the Hotel. They squirmed out it by saying that somewhere....on the website it says 'cannot be used in conjunction with other offers.' I've yet to find this page AND they had the cheek to say I hadn't mentioned the Tastecard in the first place. Calling your customers liars is not advisable guys!Awful customer service. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Do yourself a favour and go just a little bit further afield to The Jamaica Inn where they do a delicious Chorizo and prawn linguine or if you have the Tastecard go to The Governor Rocks in Donaghadee. Shabby chic, awesome value, great tasting food.

My wife and I have been there three times in the past 8 months and each time the food has got been worse than before. The last time we went there was a Saturday night in August, the occasion was to spend a £50 voucher received as a fathers' day gift. The reason I had kept it so long, I was really not looking forward to the experience. On the two previous occasions my wife and I had been there one was to enjoy the previously good fare the restaurant served from their a la carte menu.It would be fair to say on that occasion the portion sizes were reduced and the food was not up to previous standards but was still reasonable. The second occasion was because we bought a Groupon voucher for a Steak meal and thought it worth a try. It wasn't.The third occasion we looked at both the dinner menu and the a la carte. Both were very similar and with the dinner menu offering a free bottle of wine we decided to opt for the dinner menu. The good! The waitress was pleasant and efficient. The wine was fine. The bad! My steak was very small a fatty. My wife chose salmon and then left most of it's I had more bones than a herring. After I complained to the Manageress about the food, she offered what remained of my voucher in cash, despite this being against policy.I gave this to the waitress, who let's face it, can't have an easy life.Best advice, go somewhere else.

My husband and I booked a table for ourselves and two visiting relatives for lunch in Nelson's restaurant today. We hoped to seat our guests upstairs at a window table, where they enjoy the view.To our dismay we were told that the upstairs restaurant does not open at lunch time. Ourselves and our guests found this very disappointing. To add insult to injury, the menu in the downstairs restaurant had a poor but ordinary selection of dishes - none of these would be suitable for our party. We therefore had no alternative but to take our gueststo another restaurant.I am surprised that the Marine Court has lowered its standards. We therefore look forward to the upstairs restaurant being open when our guests next arrive, so that we will be able to entertain them in style. Please reply to this review. Marine Court don't let your customers down.

This was only my second time eating here in the past year and I've been very impressed on both occasions! The food is great, with large portions. I had the combo starter which is good for sharing between 2 people and you get plenty! The chicken goujons were amazing! My main course choice was the surf and turf which consisted of steak, chicken and scampi and this was also great with the steak cooked perfectly! If choosing off the main menu it can work out expensive enough but they also have several meal deals and dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine type deals for 29 which are good value! The service was excellent - particularly the two foreign waiters Ilhan and Billy who looked after us extremely well and have a brilliant sense of humour! They are fantastic waiters and a great asset to the restaurant. I was very pleased that after returning a year later the food is just as good and the service even better! Definitely an under rated restaurant.

Called in to Nelsons for lunch. Greeted by a pleasant waiter and given our choice of table. Order was quickly taken and our drinks arrived while the food was being prepared. Food was good in both quantity and quality and staff were attentive. Prices were reasonable. Our only gripe was the music being played was geared to a much younger clientelle whilst most diners were retired, this however is a common complaint of ours and perhaps no one else is bothered. Sometimes we over look what is right on our door step. Having eaten mediocre food before in this restuarant my husband and I got a very pleasant surprise recently, Under the fairly new management of Mr Brendan McCann the rather dull restaurant has been refurbished even down to nice little touches like fresh flowers and crisp linen table cloths which make a difference. The staff could not be more helpful especially Billy and Sunni who try to make your meal as pleasant as possible. We dined a few weeks ago and returned Christmas week, although much busier we still enjoyed our meal. I chose crab claw and prawns in garlic butter delicous! My husbands choice of tournenos rossini also proved to be a winner in fact he said it was one of the best fillet steaks he has had.So keep up the great work Brendan and staff we shall certainly be returning, The Redmills

We had booked a Groupon voucher for this restaurant so it was our first time there. We went into the Nelson's Bar area of the Marine Court Hotel and asked if this was the restaurant - the guy behind the bar looked shocked to see someone standing there and said ' uhh no, its next door' so we went back out into the rain and into the main hotel entrance and asked at the reception - she asked if we were groupon, we said yes and she invited us back through the reception to the bar we had just been in - the same waiter said, 'uh, i didnt realise you were groupon'.Back in the bar area and were told the restaurant was upstairs and we could sit anywhere, I said we had booked so maybe a table had been reserved? He came upstairs with us and again said we could sit anywhere - we said by the window - he said no thats reserved, I said again we had reserved a table so maybe one was already allocated - he said here, sit here and put us to the side window with a view of a graffittied wall. He then asked if we wanted a drink - I asked what was included in the meal deal - he said red or white wine - no names, just red or white - i asked if there was a soft drink option - he said no.Glasses of wine arrived - mine had 'something' on the glass, no idea what it was, but it was clearly visible so the waiter must have noticed it! He brought the drinks then 10mins later asked what we wanted and then said oh I havent given you the menus - menus arrived - no option to order starters - just the main meal as offered in the deal with sides as extras. I asked for my steak to be well done, with no pink bits - his reply was 'do you want it very well done because there will always be pink in it' - again i said I didnt want any pink to which his reply was 'well its going to be a bit dry!' - I couldn't believe the arrogance! my response was 'well if its cooked properly it wont be dry, I always have my steak well done.' My partner then decided he wanted his medium well - as he didnt want it raw by the description of the waiter.45mins after we sat down the meal finally arrived - it was average, but small portions - also, both our steaks looked to be cooked the same - medium well had no pink in it either!!!We then waited for the desert menu - it wasnt offered - the same waiter came to collect our plates and said do you want the bill then? - not was it ok for you? not would you like anything else? - nothing! unbelievable.Other points to note - the 'reserved' table never did have anyone sit at it - and the serving times were over so nobody else would have been coming in to sit at the table. The restaurant only had 2 people there when we arrived - another couple and a table of 4 arrived whilst we were there - so our table position was very poor considering the lack of customers an high availability of other tables with better views. The worse thing about the whole episode - football was playing on the large screen in the restaurant area! Really not a romantic setting what so ever - I wanted to leave but my partner said we should stay considering the meal had already been paid in advance.I would not like to return here again, I couldnt wait to get out of the place as it was clear we were disturbing the staff's viewing of the football match!.I thought the idea behind these groupon vouchers was to get new trade - treating customers like this is not the way to go! Also, as the vouchers are usually for a reduced price, restaurants usually make some extra money on the starters and deserts, tea and coffees - these were not offered to us so they missed out on making some profits - management should take note and perhaps provide better training to staff.

For the best part of twenty years 4 generations of our extended family have regularly enjoyed visits to Nelsons at its present location and when it was situated next door in what is now Lord Nelsons Bar. We have always enjoyed the excellent service and good quality food.Over the years we have visited as a family group to celebrate birthdays,, Christmas and graduations and never been disappointed or had cause to complain.Sadly this all came to an end on our last visit on Monday 4th of June. Our party consisted of 14 family members aged 5 years to 85 who were out to enjoy a 40th birthday celebration. The evening started well when jugs of water appeared promptly on our arrival. This was fortunate as we were sat unattended for half an hour before one of our party approached the staff and pointed out no one had asked our table if we would like drinks. After this was rectified we then ordered our meals. As the evening progressed I personally noticed the atmosphere was going a little flat as people started to mention the amount of time we were waiting. We had been in the Restaurant for 1 hour 30 minutes before those who had ordered starters were served. Those that had only ordered main courses had been in the restaurant a full 2 hours before eating. On the whole the quality of the food was still good but by the time it had arrived the damage had been done.We are not serial complainers and are willing to accept and forgive small errors. It was also somewhat confusing as the restaurant was actually quieter than usual. We also accept that such a large party requires a little more time to serve than a smaller group. However this experience was too much even for us. The problems were compounded by the staff who at best seemed indifferent to our plight. At the end of the evening one family member demanded to see the manager and they spoke at some length about the standard of service. As a result those of us that hadn't walked out did receive a complimentary drink but this was soured by the attitude of the waitress who took the order. Despite the fact that we have had many positive experiences and fond memories of Nelsons, the change in management is clearly a step back and this is an experience we would not wish to repeat again.

Couldn't get any drinks as the lovely girl left alone at the bar couldn't serve everyone. Her head moved like she was watching a tennis match. Food arrived cold and head staff argued over order despite was pre-ordered over phone. So , we had come here before in February as a family of 6 adults - the staff were friendly, but my view was that the food was ok at best, the drinks were pricey and the layout meant people were always squeezing past - personally I could take or leave going back but wanted to try again to support local business. Roll forward to April - table was booked on the Friday for Sunday at 5 - got there only to find no booking and no space - even though evidence of the call was shown . Turned out better in the end as we went to Blue Chicago and had a cracking meal at about £50 less than the last one we had in Teddy’s - shame as would have liked to support a small local business, but unlikely to give this another chance.
