This is a pub in my local town. If you want an authentic place to drink that’s not a franchise or owned by a brewery then this is the place. A great selection of beer on the bar. Some excellent food favourites on the menu and the team are always fast, friendly and super helpful. In some nights there’s also live music from local talent. If you are visiting and want authenticity, then this is the place.

We held our wedding reception in ‘The Lounge’ which is upstairs in Jenny Watts. We had a fantastic time which was made so enjoyable thanks to the staff and catering. The team went over and above, they took notice of the small details, for example: a pregnant guest dietary requirements which was met at short notice. Decorating and serving the wedding cheese cake, a bespoke cocktail package, drinks reception and all night bar. The management of the event was exceptional . We would highly recommend using Jenny Watts for a large function regardless of occasion.

You used to be able to come in for lunch and there was so much food on the plate and food was amazing. I don't know what's happened but came in for lunch and had the club sandwich which has always been amazing any time I have visited. It was like a greasy cheese toastie..barely any chicken, no bacon, and one shrivelled up lettuce leaf. No coleslaw or garnish on the side? Hubby got the burger...used to be huge with an onion ring...he got a burger with no relish...bap was hard..no garnish...and a few chips on the plate. 40 odd quid later....food quality is going down and prices going up! Dinner might be better? But don't think I'll be coming for food again. Service at least was dead on, did not even feel like complaining as the waiting staff were attentive.

Poor sums it up, which is a shame, as the food here used to be great. My Chicken Fillet Burger was disappointing, to say the least. Every component, from the bap to the burger, bacon, and cheese, was dry, tough, and lacked flavour. It seemed like they had been prepared beforehand and kept warm under a heat lamp. The tomato and mayo dip could have made a difference, but unfortunately, it wasn't served. This isn't the first time I've had a bad meal here in just a few months. While I initially thought it was just a one-off bad day in the kitchen, I now believe that this place may not be the best option. There are many other pubs and restaurants nearby that are a better choice.

Drinks with meal offer were exclusively certain ones, when ordered a Guinness no mention this wasn’t part of the deal. When we questioned the bill waitress said everyone makes same mistake as the menu details are written so small. She could have mentioned at the time of ordering but didn’t. Wonder why…….? But regardless of when you visit it's always fantastic. I've eaten a meal in Jenny's a couple times and both times were amazing! I'm allergic to dairy but they were wonderful about it. They didn't make me feel awkward or like it was a hassle and I was able to enjoy meals from the 'normal' menu with all the condiments and all the 'fun' bits of the meal too instead of just having things taken out of it, And it was absolutely delicious both times!! Dog friendly too, which is great. Can't recommend it enough. When I call in, it always feels like a home from home. Plus fantastic local musicians playing multiple nights of the week too! ❤️

Made a reservation for a table and arrived to be told that another group was sitting at it but they’d find another one. We ended up sitting down the back, to our amazement the back door was latched open (it was blowing a gale and raining) so needless to say there was a draft. We asked for it to be closed and the waitress obliged, which we were grateful for. Food was good, no complaints there. Asked for a dessert menu and the blackboard was set in front of us, by presumably a senior member of staff (wasn’t wearing a uniform) no pleasantries whatsoever. Nobody returned to take our order so we got our bill and left. Very disappointing to see how things have changed from a service standpoint compared to years gone by. Was quite excited to see what the new management were going to do with the place, given their good track record with venues in Belfast. Upstairs is good for sport but still a long way to go.

We gave it another chance to see if it had got any better, but to be brutally honest? It hadn’t. The menu still hasn’t changed, except for the addition of maybe two new dishes. Seabass with risotto? Strange combination, that one. No thanks. The service is where it’s also being let down. Very young staff who simply haven’t been trained and aren’t being managed. Not their fault, mind you. No management. Manager on duty on this occasion saw fit to vanish during lunch service, then reappear with a takeaway lunch for himself which he decided to eat on the customers side of the bar in full view of his customers. Whilst scrolling through Facebook on his phone. All whilst lunch service was going on around him.

Closed for weeks for ‘improvements’ with the long-standing landlord, his managers and all of his old staff having moved to The Esplanade, it’s been taken back under the wing of Beannchor and we thought we’d have a look and see what, if anything, was different. Well, to put it bluntly? Very little has changed. The plastic Covid screens have gone, the beer fonts have changed and the prices have gone up. The menu is now on a clipboard and with the addition of [maybe two] unseasonal new food offerings, the menu is exactly the same as it’s been for years, but again, the prices have gone up considerably. Toilets have had a makeover, but they’re bleak and although they’re an improvement, they weren’t exactly finished when we visited. A gaping hole where a second sink should be in the Gents for example. The big table at the rear of the bar by the glass doors has been replaced, as has the big table by the window onto the street. The rear being replaced with pretty grim wooden tables of two. A quick look out into the beer garden and it doesn’t look any different either. So, where has the improvements money been spent? Looks like a new till system and CCTV has been installed which is hardly of benefit to its clientele, but asides from that, it’s the Jenny Watt’s I’ve known for years. Menu really needs to be addressed and it’s all very well having a ‘Jenny Watt’s classics’ section, but there then needs to be sections that are new. Adding a vegan option to its year old Jenny Watt’s curry offering is hardly new. It won’t stop us using it now and again once its service issues are sorted out as they’re all new, all very nervous and all need some serious front-facing customer service training to make customers feel that they’re wanted there and not just a nuisance.

I love this bar and have done for a long time.I cut my teeth here. First pint of Guinness. Poured magnificently by the majestic Frank. The ribs nights on Tuesday followed by the fiddlydee. The history is there. But....The time has long since passed when then owner needed to decide if he is prepared to continue running it in the manner it deserves or not. It doesn't need a 2m£ refurb into a New York cocktail bar. It needs TLC from someone who loves it the way I do. The menu needs a kick up the..., the staff need to learn their trade, management need to be present now and again. I heard the rumours like a lot have. I hope they aren't true. Great bars are a real rarity and Jenny's is the best bar in Bangor on a good day and goodness knows Bangor doesn't need another empty unit.

Recently visited here with my sister and parents as reunion, we always go to Jenny Watts as we know the service and food is always good. It's a little tradition in our family before we part ways. However, this time we didn't get the service we quite expected. My sister tried to book a table and was told on the phone that they were booked up for the number of reservations they could take anymore but they could come down to try and bag a table that's not reserved and that this would be okay. So that's what we did, admittedly the pub was heaving but we managed to find a table and a man on the next table offered a chair to allow my parents to sit down with us, only needing on extra one. Then a member of staff came up and said that we weren't allowed an extra chair at that table. Even though the table could accomodate it, rudely she made a fuss and we left, taking our custom with us. We are now very unlikely to return to Jenny Watts after this rude encounter and totally unprofessional behaviour from this member of staff. This rule was nothing to do with COVID, this was just spite as after we left another person moved a chair to another table and nobody batted an eyelid. The whole idea was to sit and have drinks around this table and wait for a suitable table to become availble to have food at, which was explained, to obviously fall on deaf ears. Purely unprofessional, but thanks for the heads up in this "unprecedented time" where many businesses are struggling to make ends meet and though everything is opening back up it's more important than ever to have a good time, when needing to decide where to spend our hard earned cash, we will now spend money at other pubs who make us feel welcome and don't have staff with attitude probelms. It's a competitve time right now, perhaps retraining your staff might help you.

Nice traditional pub, with a beer garden. We popped in for a drink, and decided to have dinner there. A good decision. A lovely meal, very tasty, although we waited quite a while for it to arrive. It was worth the wait. Recommended.

When we walked into the dark pub I was taken back. As we were going to our seat I could see a beautiful outdoor area. Once seating and waiting for our meal, which was a reasonable sized menu, I spotted a sign saying built-in the 1700s. Well that explained to me the darkness. I imagined the men come in from their boats to have a pint or 3 after spending months at sea. I could hear the singing and see them. Dance. The photos on the wall full of history. The serving staff where friendly and the food was beautiful. I will definitely visit again when in Bangor.

The food was average, nothing particularly wrong with it but could have made the same at home. The service was pretty poor though, asked for another drink and it never came, asked for ketchup and it never came, asked for the bill and it came but was 5 mins later when they came back with the card machine

Needed a break from Christmas shopping so dropped into Jenny Watts at lunchtime and luckily got one of the few unreserved tables.Drinks served quickly and as we already knew what we wanted ordered the Turkey&Ham with all the trimmings(changed the mash to chunky chips). The place is a bit dark and dated with old fashioned wall decoration but food is tasty and the service great.

I visited Jenny Watts on the Sunday night for a couple of drinks and was told at the end of the night about the specials menu they do Monday to Wednesday. So I went back Monday, then again on Tuesday as it was amazing. Had the garlic mushrooms for starter with the beef burger with cheese and bacon and hand cut chips on the Monday. On Tuesday it was the mushrooms again followed but bang bang chicken with garlic cubed potatoes. Both fantastic meals both nights. The special menu is 2 courses for £10.95. Essentially a free starter. The staff worked well doing the table service and keeping the drinks flowing. Amazing tasting Guinness there and I got talked into trying the "Bush" and that too went down well. A special shout out of thanks to Nick the chef and Kyle from behind the bar. The other staff were amazing as well! I will be back!

So , we had come here before in February as a family of 6 adults - the staff were friendly, but my view was that the food was ok at best, the drinks were pricey and the layout meant people were always squeezing past - personally I could take or leave going back but wanted to try again to support local business. Roll forward to April - table was booked on the Friday for Sunday at 5 - got there only to find no booking and no space - even though evidence of the call was shown . Turned out better in the end as we went to Blue Chicago and had a cracking meal at about £50 less than the last one we had in Teddy’s - shame as would have liked to support a small local business, but unlikely to give this another chance.

Food and service was ok but offer no substitutes on meals where the party had allergies. Still served the meal with items that had been requested to be taken off due to allergy. A waste of food and bad experience.

Last night there was a major power cut in Bangor, down the road from Groomsport, and my brothers and I couldn't dine at the restaurant we had booked. There were a couple of places outside the shut-down area but it was a Friday night and they couldn't fit us in. The Stables, being a high-class establishment was also full up but, unlike the other restaurants, they didn't turn us away. In fact, the chap on the desk was incredibly helpful, saying he would find a place for us and then, five minutes later, he found us an even better table with a view of the sea. We were very impressed with his professionalism and positive attitude. The waiters were also very friendly and helpful and arrived at our table very quickly to get our drinks order. The food was delicious and one of our waitresses went out of her way to find an alcoholic beverage that not everybody is familiar with. After the frustration of trying to find a restaurant where we could celebrate my birthday earlier in the week we hit the jackpot with The Stables. I had eaten there a couple of years ago with a friend from London and liked it but it has improved immensely since that visit. I can't praise the restaurant enough for their friendliness, professionalism and willingness to go that extra mile to make sure we had a good time. And the food, as I said earlier, was top quality. I will definitely go there again and not just for a special occasion. The restaurant totally deserves the five stars I have given it.

Been coming here for years before and after covid. Good quality food but over time the quantity has got worse, I ordered a standard fry and served on a nice big plate but won’t be back as other cafes offer much more food for you money.
