Appalling food in freezing conditions - what more needs to be said. The very worst looking tasting fish cake I have ever seen with an indescribably off putting appearance followed next course with cold mushrooms and cold steak and the soggiest garlic fries imaginable and some! Fortunately I had not opted for desert but my wife’s Eton Mess was rock solid and she said she was unable to get it into her spoon for fear of breaking the wine glass that it was served in. We were guests of a friend having a birthday so we’re not in the position to complain but despite our best efforts our friend noticed even if the staff chose not to.

Joined a group of 14+ for Xmas dinner and Entertainment 7th Dec and very disappointed. Arrived at 7pm before many other tables were even occupied and ended up being served last. Had a traditional dinner of Turkey, stuffing, sausages ,roast potatoes, mash, mixed vegetables and ONE brussels sprout.Maybe it was because the kitchen had run out of Brussels by the time they came to serve us. Starter was prawns in a very orange sauce, sprinkling of cress on a slice of wheaten bread. Not very impressive. Tables were not cleared for some considerable time after diners had finished eating. Went to toilets and was gone for maybe 10-12mins and came back to table to find Coffee had been served and all cups cleared. Miraculous!! At a cost of £40 per person I feel robbed. I have been to Stables Restaurant in Groomsport and had 3 course meal + Entertainment in the Gordon Suite for £25, I believe it is now £27 but still excellent value for money. Service is exemplary and the meals are excellent.

Having dined in this hotel in the past with few complaints, as a party of 15 - 20 friends. We booked another meal for 15 for 8pm. Whatever has changed since our last visit, things have gone downhill. The starters we mediocre, half of the party were served their main while the rest weren't served until the others had finished theirs. There didn't appear to be any reason for this as the restaurant wasn't busy and no-one came to advise of any issue. Also one of the male staff suffered with body odour. I'm sorry to say this hotel has lost its way.

Been going here for a few years now on 13 July and have always got a good meal. This year however was truly awful. We waited for over an hour on food and one meal arrived wrong and when it came back my dogs dinner had better presentation plus the side of veg was missing. Also a pint of coke was totally flat. There was no offer of discount or free dessert for the waiting time. Was very disappointed as I had been looking forward to the meal all day and brought family with me. Would of been better going to the chippy across the road.

We went to the Hotel for a meal, a party of 13. This hotel restaurant is horrible, had an old musty smell and the floor was sticky all over, not a good start. For starters I had the prawn cocktail that was very poor, no lemon, only prawns and very little salad, the mains was Chicken Mary Land, a slice of crumbed chicken Banana and pineapple that had so much grease it was not funny, I ordered a lemonade to drink and this had to be returned, completely flat. The waiter served the drinks by holding the glass on the top by the lip, coffee was also ordered and came with no spoons. This restaurant is not even second rate, so sad !!!

Was part of a group booked in for an evening meal. We had pre-ordered our menu choices. When we arrived the table wasn't fully set, people were given dessert spoons to eat their soup with and the bread rolls appeared after the starters were more or less eaten. One of the party actually said that they expected to see Basil Fawlty appear. First and last visit.

My friend and I were at Marine Court Hotel Bangor Co Down today (19 May 2018) for afternoon tea whilst watching the royal wedding. Our table was booked and pre-paid for 1pm. When we were seated we had to ask staff more than once to bring our afternoon tea. We were served a miserable sized glass of prosecco which tasted more like peach flavoured water than alcohol! Instead of our afternoon tea being served on a traditional cake stand, it was brought to us on 2 large dinner sized plates!! We questioned this with member of staff who replied - the limited number of cake stands were on a first come first served basis.

We were in for a meal on Saturday at lunch time which was lovely so we booked a meal for the Monday night which was my husbands birthday, well what a difference, meal was awful we couldn't eat it. Starter was prawn cocktail which was supposed to have house salad this consisted of shrivelled up carrot and a weird taste from the prawns. We were told no chips left only champ or mash I ordered champ. When it came it after a considerable time (restaurant was not busy) it obviously wasn't proper mash more like the powered version and it was freezing also I was served mash and not champ. Staff were excellent and very apologetic but we couldn't even warm to eating the meal so we declined. We had almost finished our bottle of wine by the time we got our meal which cost £12 which we still think was far to much for the night as it was a disaster after looking so forward to it. I don't think we will ever be back for a meal and in hindsight we should not have paid for the wine. This was a first evening meal since my husbands heart attack in February 2017 and we were very disappointed.

The setting was nice and the view lovely over the marina at night, thestaff very attentive, but the food was nothing to write home about. Also there was a singer who was a bit loud for making conversation over dinner. To be honest it felt a bit like a pensioners dinner, not my cup of tea. I ordered fish goujons (haddock) so i was surprised when 2 full size pieces of fish were served just half the thickness of a normal fillet of haddock. It made it difficult to eat as it kept breaking up. My partner had a turkey dinner which seemed quite flavorsome. For dessert i had fudge cake and icecream, not a great flavour and even though it had been heated was still a bit dry. I think i just made bad choices. Might be a while before i try it again though.

Horrid. The starters were just random items of food - beetroot, coleslaw, noodles, spam - I honestly was shocked to see trays of sparse unheated and/ or unrefridgerated unappetising plates and bowls placed randomly on a couple of tables. The desserts were even worse- how can you get desserts wrong? They had been sitting out in room temperature, not refrigerated for hours so immediately looked like you would expect under the circumstances and didn't look anything like the photos shown. The mains were the best part of the meal but even then fell far short of what you'd expect from a decent carvery. All in all please give a miss. It's just a waste of your hard earned cash. I actually think a visit from environmental health is required to check on the way the food is kept before serving.

Had Christmas lunch at the Marine Court, but had better poor school dinners! Starter was a slice of duck pate served with wilted yellowish rocket an two miniscule triangles of toasted pan loaf – how much would a whole slice of pan bread cost? Main was chicken supreme, described as chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and wrapped in pancetta – what I got was a portion of dry chicken on the bone, complete with skin and wrapped in a burnt piece of pancetta which didn’t even cover the portion, and as for the mozzarella, it had evaporated; all this with an orange coloured tasteless sauce. Sides came in large bowls of school dinner style mash, yellowish green Brussel sprouts cooked to death and then half way through the meal, a bowl described as carrot, parsnip and swede arrived, although apart from the colour, all the cubes tasted the same. Dessert was ok – after eight cheesecake, but portion sizes served to my fellow diners varied considerable in size – a real lottery! I know the volume of dinners served at christmas is challenging to a lot of restaurants but Marine Court, this is beyond excuse! Be warned….

I cannot recommend the Marine Court buffet lunch highly enough. This is a daily offering and we usually go on a Friday, there are many other regular diners. The main lunch + coffee/tea is only £7.95 and is excellent value for money. Mash, roast potatoes, veg, several meats, pies, chilli, sausages. Delicious food, hot and perfectly cooked. The waiting staff are wonderful too. Starters and desserts are extra available options too. You can have a loyalty card and buy 10 lunches and get number 11 free. We had breakfast one of the mornings which was nice and a meal in the restaurant at night which was beautiful and the waiter staff all really pleasant and well mannered which is always lovely. We went into the bar both nights no entertainment and found it hard getting served but when we did staff where nice and pleasant. Alarm bells should have rung the moment we set foot in the Marine Court Hotel Restaurant - there was only one table of four when we arrived. We were handed the wine menu before the food menu and we ordered our wine. We ordered a bottle of white wine by number on the menu and by name. The first bottle that arrived was red - the second was white but unfortunately the waiter did not show us the bottle label or asked us to taste it - he proceeded to pour two glasses - he was not very happy when we told him that, yet again, he had got the wine order wrong. As far as food was concerned - we advised that the roast of the day was gammon and we ordered this, the other person ordered the fish. The waiter returned to our table and mentioned something about the beef that was ordered - we advised that one of us do not eat beef so this would not have been ordered. He proceeded to blame his colleague who, apparently, advised him incorrectly. We ordered chicken and vegetables - when it arrived it was so miniscule and the accompanying vegetables were, obviously, deep fried. They were shrivelled and burned and sitting in a pool of oil. When the waiter cleared the table he asked if everything was in order and he was advised that the vegetables should not have been served due to their inedible state - he said they were steamed!! We asked him if he would eat them and he said no.All in all, a most disappointing dining experience made worse by totally inexperienced waiting staff.Would we visit again - certainly not, not would we recommend this restaurant to anybody.

Our party of four were greeted by smiling staff and shown to our window table where we were presented with Bellini cocktails. The menu which consisted of a couples sharing plate starter, a choice of mains, another sharing plate dessert and tea or coffee was promising and we have to say made good on its promise. Crispy chicken strips with bbq sauce, prawns with Marie Rose sauce in little gem cups and beautiful dark bread and mini veg spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce started the meal beautifully. Our mains ranged from pork belly, chicken supreme en croute and beef daube all accompanied by a wide selection of potatoes and veggies, well presented ,beautifully cooked and plentiful. Dessert was a collection of strawberry pavlova, profiteroles and cheesecake. One of our party who is lactose intolerant was presented with a fresh fruit salad all freshly sliced. A tour de force of a meal served by bright, courteous staff and accompanied by a swing singer who was loud enough to enjoy but still made conversation possible. On leaving the ladies were presented with a real long stemmed red rose. Fabulous night all round and excellent value for money.

Visited this hotel for their four course Sunday carvery and was not disappointed. The Hotel is lovely and once inside you go to the first floor (there is a lift) and then into the Ballroom which is where they hold wedding receptions and events etc, so be prepared to be in a large room with lots of people. Each course is served on an island with help yourself apart from the mains which are carved for you and served by friendly staff. The price is around £18 per person and if you are over 60 its £6.00 ( two course). Tip best time to go is around 3pm when most people are leaving and fresh food is being put out. Also public parking (free) is across the road in front of the marina to the right (left is a pay car park).

Enjoyed a Sunday carvery meal for two that we had bought on Groupon so was very reasonable. There was a good choice of food and a good atmosphere. We were lucky enough to get a window seat with a view of the sea which was nice as it was a lovely day and the sun was shining. There was only a couple of staff on but they were very pleasant and helpful and we were also asked if we would like a doggy bag to take home any leftovers. We would certainly go back again.

Stopped of for a carvery lunch. Good price, quick service, food was very good and you get a good helping. Desserts were available but the main course had filled us. £8.95 for dinner and tea or coffee, so good value. Had to go upstairs which may be an issue for some. Also the dining room was very warm, could have done with more windows opened.

Myself, my partner and my 3 year old had a carvary lunch here for Easter Sunday. The choice of food on offer was great, the service we had was very good and all in all we had a very enjoyable experience. We had got this as a Groupon offer so that was even better. My 3 year old daughter was a bit of a monster during the meal but the staff were grand about her and even went out of their way to come over and talk to her. I would recommend here, no problems and will return again soon.

I will point out I didnt stay here. However the reason I am leaving a review is a number of my family and friends did the night before my wedding.I also visited the night before to calm the nerves etc. The bar was very spacious which was just as well as we pretty much took it over for the night. There was also a cool looking sports bar in the back. They maybe could have done with more staff in the bar as the wait can sometimes be a little long for drinks. The staff at the bar though were very friendly as were the staff at reception (I was actually paying for some people to stay so i got to deal with them).Everybody commented their room was very nice and spacious and there wasnt one complaint. They were also very happy with their breakfast. For 50 stg room only you cant go wrong. There was also no issue ordering taxis and the hotel also excelled with their service after check out.1. I had forgotten to print off my speech for my wedding and rang the hotel begging them if they would and to give it to my groomsmen there. They obliged immediately with no fuss. That was extremely appreciated (i forgot to print it in work and my printer at home wasnt working)2. one of our party left shoes behind but they managed to recover them and we picked them up again.Thank you for a great night, great service and looking after my friends and family

I personally was not there when this incident took place and thank goodness! My sister and mother were ten minutes late to an evening dinner do with family and friends. The waiter named billy made this very apparent in front of everyone and singled out my mother for the rest of the evening. He made sure she ordered last, got her order last, made fun of her and made her feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed during the intire evening. This was not a case of joking a round and being cheeky, he crossed the line and had i been there i would have put him in his place. You DO NOT make people feel the way he made her feel. I am shocked and mortified that this went on. I will set foot in the marine court hotel only once more and that will be to make a formal compliant.

The so called buffer table was probably no more that 10 ft long- there was something warm called soup - the plastic food all used the same gravy and really there is nothing else to say - Had the court house been still open I would have actually considered that this was a preparation of the so called food that new inmates sentenced to Magbary Perison were being prepared for the shape of things to come-I recall that I was invited as pat of one of these on line offers where downmarket and dwindling establishments who clutch at straws in a final bid to survive

Just returned from marine court and this must have been the worst meal out we have ever had. Salty chicken pieces-bit tasteless and tough-chicken Maryland 2 bits of chicken 1 piece of bacon which must have been cooked this morning and reheated,1 piece of pineapple in batter all swimming in some kind of chicken sauce. Husband had well done steak which looked dried up, tasteless warm onions and terrible chips- all reheated. Lemon tart ok. Waitress advised £5.00 deducted from meal will never be back.

If you read my review of the Fitzwilliam Hotel restaurant in Belfast then if that was the chalk this is the cheese. A group of family and friends were out a week or so ago and after a great day out we needed food! We had eaten in the Marine Court Hotel restaurant before and decided to see if they could fit us in at short notice. Short answer, yes they were more than helpful in getting us slotted into a very adequate space in what appeared to be a very busy Saturday night. This establishment is a good honest hotel and restaurant not like the one reviewed in "Chalk and Cheese part 1. The staff are helpful and friendly, the menu comprehensive and the quality of the food good. The quantity and value for money score well also and they delivered what was ordered. The atmosphere was good and on the night we were there there was even live entertainment which by the way was not "in your face". What more can I say? not much apart from the fact that if you are in Bangor Co. Down and you need a good meal don't go past the Marine Court.

Was at this hotel for wedding reception. This is the 2nd wedding reception we have attended here. Food at the wedding receptions has been spot on.......hot and great portion sizes. Service also was great. However I found if you are visiting for an ordinary meal, service was not just so good and neither was the food.

I have had pleasant evening meals here but this was the first time I tried the daytime Carvery and I was well impressed. Friendly welcome and service, various priced options, good selection of food even at later lunchtime. We chose two courses but you could have three plus help yourself to tea or coffee and choice from huge range of biscuits! The staff are very friendly and good humoured.

A reasonably modern building with a nice retro looking interior. Pleasant staff in all areas from reception to bars and restaurant.Cheaper to buy drinks in the Sports bar than in Nelsons bar at the front of the hotel, not sure why because Nelsons is nothing special just an average bar with a less than wide selection of draught beers. The room was again OK with TV, Iron, tea/coffee facility. As we were 2 blokes sharing a room, and one of us snores ( OK,,, its me. ) we pushed the twin beds further apart, uncovering a few years worth of dust, bottle tops and hair grips. that was disappointing. I think overall they need to deep clean rooms now and again not just skirt around the furniture with the vacuum. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, pretty fair meal at a good price. Funny to be served a meal with mashed potato, and get side order of roast potato and carrots, but I guess thats Ireland. Nice potato cakes for breakfast every morning. and everything else every morning, would be nice if they could vary that a little. And I'm not keen on scrambled eggs and fried eggs coming out and sitting under heat lamps to slowly have the life sucked out of them. Suggest maybe ask if you want eggs, and how, when you ask if you want tea or coffee. Would not overcomplicate their service, and would be much better for guests.Overall... Yeah, OK, I'd stay there again, but I am not overly fussy. I'm sure a lot of Tripadvisor people would find more fault than me, so read more reviews and make up your own mind.

Just returned after a wonderful lunch in The Marine Hotel using my Groupon voucher. My husband and I had pre-booked and we were warmly welcomed by the restaurant manager. We were shown to a table with a splendid view overlooking Queen's Parade. The staff were very friendly but not intrusive. The voucher was for the carvery lunch. The choice of starters was extensive and delicious. No time pressure and I went back for seconds. The manager personally served us with our choice of main course from a choice of 4 mains. The portions were very ample and tasty. We devoured as much as we could as we already knew that there was a choice of three desserts, pavlova, Black Forest gateau and carrot cake. I choose a portion of all three accompanied with a cup of fresh Twinning tea. We left feeling very special and absolutely truly satisfied with the reception, setting, food and value for money. We intend to return at such future date.

Called in for a quick steak dinner following a purchase on groupon. Service was fairly good, friendly, attentive staff. Surroundings quite dated to be honest, the view of Bangor marina made up for it.Good value for money with regards to the deal on groupon. Steak wasn't bad, but not great. The peppered sauce tasted a bit synthetic. Cheesecake for dessert was a tad hand creamy. Wouldn't be back to be honest.

We used a Groupon voucher for the buffet lunch. We had stayed in the hotel before but not used the restaurant til now! (What a mistake! ) Not having read the voucher properly and going on the price we paid we assumed it was for a main course only. So wrong! When we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest of staff who made us clear on their buffet selection which included starters (such a variety i couldn't list them all), soup with many different breads (which we had to pass on as we already knew at this stage there was no way we could manage it all), main course (roast meats as well as several different other fish and pie choices, along with all the trimmings, all of which served in plentiful quantities), and then a selection of amazing desserts! Our voucher also included coffee. There was more food to choose from than we could ever have sampled in one days sitting! The choices were amazing. The food itself was fantastic, there was NOTHING we could have complained about! The staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant. The value was truly unbelievable. The offer has just come back on Groupon and ive bought 2 more. If the offer hadn't came back on I'd be returning anyway! Thank u to all the staff for a totally amazing lunch and visit to your restaurant!

We had family staying for a long weekend and decided to go out on the Sunday evening for a meal and chose the Marine Court, which we hadn't visited in years. We where greeted by a very friendly member of the staff who showed us to our table overlooking Bangor Marina which kept our grandsons entertained as they could see the various vessels going up and down Belfast Lough. The menu offering was extensive and we settled on the High Tea menu which offered great choice and value for money, even the 10 year old fancied this menu while his brother opted for the kid offering. While we where waiting on our food we where visited by about 3 different waiters bring us iced water, wine and bread selections all of which where delivered with a friendly smile and a very unobtrusive manner as their is nothing a hate more in a restaurant is hovering waiters. The food was wholesome and plentiful starting with the excellent prawn cocktails to the main courses of fish, gammon and a wonderful 10oz steak. We could not fault either the service or the food and will try and not leave it as long the next time before we revisit. The only negative point I would make was there was a large family party who gave the impression of being in the restaurant since lunchtime and where a bit on the noisy side and they let their kid run around the place, that said we wouldn't let this put us off our overall enjoyment.

Using a Groupon voucher for a Sirloin steak meal with wine, my wife and I treated ourselves to a pre-St Valentine's Day meal. The Hotel retains an old world charm, which some might find rather dated. The Restaurant, which commands great views over Bangor Marina, seemed rather dull : the wallpaper is in muted shades of brown / purple. Our initial impression was, therefore, inclined to be negative. Our friendly reception, by an ever-smiling Turkish waiter who showed us to our seats, quickly dispelled these feelings. Our order, [ how we required our steaks to be cooked ] was quickly and efficiently taken. I was taken aback to find that the offer, of wine with the meal, was rigidly interpreted. As I was driving, I asked whether I could have a soft drink instead - this, however, was not possible. We were able to take ' my ' unopened bottle home. The steaks, which arrived shortly afterwards, were cooked exactly as requested, and were first class. My wife and I both agreed that our meals were excellent, and that the service, from several staff members, was attentive without being intrusive. All in all, a very pleasant evening. Despite living in Bangor, this was our first meal in the Marine Court Hotel. In light of our experience, it may well not be the last.

We visited twice on our holiday, once just for chips and once for a fish supper. Staff were friendly. Food was hot and there was a nice crispy (and not too heavy) batter on the fish and the pasty. It hit the spot after a very busy day.

So , we had come here before in February as a family of 6 adults - the staff were friendly, but my view was that the food was ok at best, the drinks were pricey and the layout meant people were always squeezing past - personally I could take or leave going back but wanted to try again to support local business. Roll forward to April - table was booked on the Friday for Sunday at 5 - got there only to find no booking and no space - even though evidence of the call was shown . Turned out better in the end as we went to Blue Chicago and had a cracking meal at about £50 less than the last one we had in Teddy’s - shame as would have liked to support a small local business, but unlikely to give this another chance.

Went to Jenny Watts tonight for dinner with visiting family. Lovely Irish pub, friendly welcome and good to see a coal fire lit on a chilly evening. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty, great fella served us, welcoming and brilliant to see a friendly Irish person after our bad visit to The Dark Horse in Belfast. Great night out and we would happily return for food or drinks.

Started off so well. Very friendly service. Beautiful food. We would’ve ordered desserts and coffee but nobody came near us after our main course. We sat and waited for quite a while then decided to get up and pay the bill. Pity really.
