Nelson Coffee in Eastbourne

Love Nelson!! I come every week for coffee and breakfast with my 3 year old daughter. We are made to feel so welcome! Food is always fab and the coffee exceptional. I have the beans for my machine at home too!

Thank you to the great people at Nelson Coffee for in my opinion the best coffee in town …such a classy cool place to relax ..staff so friendly apparently the pastries are home made they are amazing (especially the cheese scones) my new go to coffee place

I have visited Nelson Coffee many times. It’s firm favourite of mine. It’s a beautiful cafe with a warm and friendly atmosphere and wonderful food and drinks! Definitely worth a visit!

Oh dear. Well we ate breakfast there as there was nothing else open locally that could provide a full English. So I went for the Nelson Brekkie - expecting a decent breakfast with two eggs, two back bacon, two sausages, mushrooms....you know. What came was mainly make up of thick brown toast, with the addition of two eggs, two tiny rashers of fatty streaky bacon that had nothing left by the time you cut the fat off, ONE sausage, ONE mushroom, a tiny pot of dried up beans, ONE CHERRY TOMATO!! An extra sausage was a totally unjustifiable three quid! I asked for some ketchup and was given a tatty old Heinz bottle (obviously refilled) because it contained a weird gel-like sweet pale red substance - definitely not ketchup! All this for £14.50! Disgusting. The coffee was nice, however it took ages to arrive and when our meals arrived (45 minutes after we entered) we had finished the coffees but to order more would have put another fifteen quid on the already outrageous bill. Compare this to the excellent breakfast I had at Toby Carvery the day before - as much as I wanted of well cooked breakfast items, toast, marmalade, bottomless coffee - at under half the price. I cannot understand why the place was heaving. Either people were unprepared for what they were about to get, or they had bottomless pockets! This place needs to pull its socks up. We won't be back! If they reply to this, I'd like to know how a single sausage can cost three quid!

Wow this place is expensive but the quality is so so poor, where so I start my £13 French toast was tasteless, my partner had the “full English” awful plus £3 for an extra sausage!!!! They are so cheap the Heinz Ketchup bottles are filled with a cheap Ketchup!?! So many better places to go even the coffee was below par I had a better coffee at the foundry at the train station. Avoid this rip off joint

Very nice lunch, reasonable and interesting menu. Great cardamon and rose coffee, loved it. They seem to have got the mix of food spot on.

Popped in for breakfast. Lovely find. Good was great, lovely setting in the cafe and staff were very friendly. Worth a visit!

Probably the best coffee I’ve tasted. I’m a bit of a snob from London and try everything going but these guys absolutely nail it! Food is exceptional, especially their breakfast and brunch dishes. Love the atmosphere and staff as well.

Absolutely delicious avocado on toast - all ingredients were good quality and put together with skill. Thank you - plus coffee was delicious. It was a pleasure and I will return.

Nelson Coffee doesn’t exist. It moved up the road, it became an “eatery” then changed to “the roasters”. I first reviewed it in 2018 and was so enthusiastic to have a proper coffee shop in Eastbourne. Now it became this overpriced eating place, that although it retain its coffee , it has mutilated the menu, is much smaller and blander than what once was. I had poached eggs on toast with beans and mushrooms… the bread too thick and too toasted, the poached eggs (once nice an runny) where overcooked and hardened, the side mushrooms where simply boiled and literally had no taste at all and my God, the side beans were just this horrible tasting acidic, sour thing that I left in the plate. I have been coming to Nelson, and it’s various iterations, for 4 years and I am more disappointed with every visit. I just hope someone will read this and make some improvements, because people of Eastbourne and its tourist deserve more, not last for the money they pay.

Great local coffee shop, do their own roasting producing lovely tasting coffee. Friendly and excellent staff. One of the best coffees in England

We have visited Nelson's a few times when in Eastbourne on business. The coffee is pretty good, as is the food - there is a selection of cakes and a limited savoury menu. Service is friendly and good, the quality of the food is good, if a little on the higher-priced side. Worth a visit

Very bad value for money! £6 for a bacon roll, I was sceptical at this price but wanted to give them a go. 2 tiny bits of streaky and a dollop of green. Unsatisfied.

I wish I could give more than five stars. We had the Nelson Brekkie and Vegetarian Brekkie at lunchtime today. Both were fresh and delicious, good value for money and the service was great. The home made baked beans deserve a special mention. There was plenty of room inside for my Wheelchair and the wheelchair friendly toilet was spotlessly clean. We will return!

This bread as toast doesn't work---much too hard and chipped tooth. Please use regular bread for toast

Great coffee and a great vibe! Seems to be the venue of choice for young people, which is great! The staff are pleasant too. This is the coffee shop to go to in Eastbourne.

We did enjoy our lunch but had specifically gone here for the gluten free corn fritters which are no longer on the menu which was disappointing - please bring them back!!! The ramen bowl was delicious (quite spicy hot ) and well presented. The staff were lovely and after asking for gluten free toast they explained that a gluten free roll toasted was available - which was tasty and quite acceptable. The atmosphere is lovely and this place is very close to the station - so worth a 2 minute walk to it! Do enjoy it here just missing some dishes on the old menu. Worth visiting!

Outstanding, freshly cooked food. I had the apple crumble pancake stack with streaky bacon, sister had campfire hash and my daughter had eggs with their fabulous sour dough toast. Also bought some of their in-house roasted beans. Such a wonderful place. Been before and will definitely come again.

Three of us visited for brunch as it was convenient, we thought, for one of us returning to London after the Remembrance service at the War Memorial. Unfortunately, the cafe had moved, but no matter. Nice greeting, friendly atmosphere, pleasant lady in charge. It all started to go rather awry when we ordered drinks, and I queried what the cider was, and from whence. The man, who had not initially been present, didn’t know, but had to look. One word answer: “Hereford”. Ah well. Maybe he had had a bad day. Food arrived, mine sans the chive mayonnaise, for some reason. My wife had a vegetarian option, which seemed to be rather lacking. It was ok, no more. The actual offering did not live up to the description is a polite way of putting it. We could have lived with this, as we were more concerned with chatting amongst ourselves. As one of our party left for London, I asked to pay. The monosyllabic one addressed me as “mate”. Not a courteous, appropriate nor respectful address to an older, ex-serviceman (wearing veterans badge and poppy, but not medals, having removed them earlier)from a male seemingly hardly out of his teens. I asked him politely if he would not address me as “mate”, at which he became shirty and aggressive, to put it mildly, accusing me of being unpleasant and rude. It was rather reminiscent of Basil Fawlty at his worst, although this man was very short. Small man syndrome, perhaps, or he had just had a bad day. No apology to me as the customer, who had asked not to be addressed in a certain way. The lady tried to defuse matters, quite nicely, which I appreciated, and thanked her. I paid, and left. A pleasant experience totally spoiled, and leaving a bad taste. We will not return!

Used to enjoy a breakfast/meals watching world go by in the window opposite station. Don't do breakfast anymore. Sanrnis ok but not same vibe!! Still go now and agin. Used to be every week. Shame Paul

Visited the new Nelsons - Coffee Roastery today. Only popped in for a takeaway sandwich. Had to wait 25 minutes for it. Very poor slow service. Wont bother again.

Each time I come here I’m always so pleased. The staff are super lovey and chatty, the food is delicious and the drinks are always well made and presented nicely. Can’t recommend enough!

Really love it here, the food is excellent and worth the higher price. On my last visit I had the falafel wrap with halloumi, absolutely delicious with so many interesting flavours. It just felt super high quality and was fantastically presented (this time, anyway - previously it was just in a paper-lined basket).Good coffee of course, and although when you walk in it appears really small in there, it does go back a long way with tables lined along each side of the wall. Maybe if you are very covid-cautious it might feel a bit uncomfortable/stuffy, but on quieter days it's great and has a nice atmosphere. One of my favourite places for coffee in Eastbourne.

Grimy and grubby. Seen better days. Overpriced too. Long gone are the glory days, if glory days there ever were. I'd suggest giving it a miss.

I always use Nelsons for coffee and cake but today I tried burger evening. Had a lovely vegan southern fried burger, vegan dirty fries, cauliflower wings and halloumi wedges. All really tasty and friendly staff. Be back for more soon.

We visited at 9am for breakfast, food took a while to arrive, nearly 30 mins - whilst mine (eggs benny) was nice but came out very cold. The Nelson Breakfast was also very cold with over cooked eggs, over cooked sausage and bacon. The Toast was cold and too hard to eat and the beans were inedible. For the price, it was disappointing and trying to get the attention of the staff was not possible so we ate what was possible before leaving. And will not return. We were not asked how the food was. There were only 4 other customers in the cafe when we were there.

Lovely time for late lunch with friends. Staff didn’t mind we moved from outside to inside when cold and used two tables. One young in particular was very polite and helpful. WhenSome items has ran out he offered a discount instead.Lovely vegetarian food options.

Staff always friendly and attentive, cakes that make your mouth water just looking at them and a great cup of coffee.

Visited here on Saturday for breakfast after dinner the night before at their sister eatery, Company (highly recommend too!) Our coffees were great - piccolo and flat white - and breakfasts were delicious - I had the Eggs Benny with bacon and my housemate had the veggie breakkie which he loved too. Highly recommend & it’s clearly an Eastbourne institution judging by the amount of people coming here.

Had coffee and breakfast at Nelson and we both had the eggs benedict. I can honestly say it was the best eggs benedict I’ve had in a long time, really delicious and beautifully presented. Things feel thought out here, not just slapped on a plate. Service was great and the staff were lovely. Highly recommended!

We wholeheartedly recommend Nelson Coffee. Their brunch was absolutely delicious - one of the best we have had in the country. We visited shortly after their menu has changed, which meant I got to try their pancakes with peach and raspberry. I'm usually a fan of banoffee, caramel etc. on pancakes but would give all of those toppings up to try their peach and raspberry ones again - they were exceptional. My wife enjoyed the beetroot salmon as much, and our drinks, including a flat white and Nelson's own lemonade, were fantastic too.The staff were really friendly and professional, and the whole place felt Covid secure.I'm not sure when we'll be in Eastbourne again, but we'll definitely book in a trip to Nelson Coffee when we are!

1st time I'd been here to eat. Came with son. I'm dairy intolerant and asked for a bacon roll with dairy free butter. When it arrived I noticed it was a brioche bun, so questioned whether it had milk in it. They insisted or making the whole thing again even tho I said just a new roll wld b fine. Then waited fir 15 mins b4 it arrived (did not know they were re cooking it) and they insisted on issuing a refund for both meals even though I said it was fine. Staff went above and beyond to nake sure we were happy. And son loved his pancakes! Thank u! Will b returning. X

Had an excellent breakfast here, staff were super welcoming. The eggs were perfect and the sides were nicely flavoured.

This used to be our favourite coffee shop in Eastbourne - amazing coffee and perfect breakfasts. Always used to be busy, but the demand was understandable. However some of the hits from the menu disappeared over the time, such as sausage rolls. Open times also became unstable - we would come in the Sunday afternoon and the place would be open with all staff in, but they would not serve us coffee. It is truly heartbreaking to see the place which was a rare delight in Eastbourne seems now in decline. Hope that it ewturbs

Tasty tasty food. Love the poke bowls but have just discovered the the Rueben bagel - sooo good. And lovely staff plus coffee too. my favourite treat in Eastbourne

Ordered a coffee for take away, obviously due to current restrictions. Cafe inside is small and dark, staff are too busy chatting about their personal life amongst themselves to realise what’s going on within the establishment. Finally it was my turn to order. I ordered a flat white which was sour, watery and had no froth. Very disappointing. They say to support small local businesses but when they serve you this type of coffee I would rather stick to Starbucks!

Cozy place, friendly stuff with great flat white! Been to Nelson several times and tried cappuccino (they do latte art over cappuccino), americano, latte and flat white. Have to say the fw is definitely my fav here!

Visitamos Eastbourne durante un fin de semana largo. Desayunamos / brunch aquí el sábado y el domingo. El desayuno del sábado era delicioso, yo tenía el desayuno vegetariano y mi amigo el desayuno completo. El domingo fue una historia diferente. No sé si alguien llamó enfermo, pero el personal estaba por todos lados. El servicio del domingo fue básico. Había una mesa de 4 jubilados a nuestro lado (tuvimos una conversación con ellos y nos dijeron que todos estaban jubilados). Uno del grupo pidió que el pan tostado en su desayuno se cambiara a masa madre según el menú indicado, ya que les habían dado lo que parecía ser pan de tigre (a mi amigo y a mí también nos habían dado el mismo pan de tigre a pesar de que el El menú decía masa madre, pero no pudimos molestarnos en quejarnos porque ya habíamos esperado 20 minutos para nuestros cafés y 30 minutos para el desayuno y tuve que preguntar dónde estaban los cubiertos, la sal y la pimienta y el puré de aguacate que faltaba. de mi desayuno). El personal informó al grupo que les habían dado masa madre, pero dijeron que descaradamente no era masa madre y pidieron ver a un gerente. El gerente vino y también insistió en que era de masa madre, fue vergonzoso ver a los 2 miembros del personal hacer su reclamo. Era pan de tigre, incluso si el pan había sido etiquetado como "masa madre", era evidente con solo mirarlo (y por el gusto) que era pan de tigre. In Eastbourne on a regular basis and always past this, never visited. What have I missed, amazing coffee and snacks, great service. Now a regular stop on my shopping trips.

Quick stop for coffee. Busy and lively, can see it is popular. The treats in the counter look more than tempting and we had a chocolate and peanut brownie/square and it was sooo good! Were a few more I would have liked to try too!

Since moving to Eastbourne, Nelson's has been a favourite of mine. Staff are always really friendly and the service is great. Food is always at great quality and nothing seems too much trouble if you want to adjust anything.

We loved Nelson Coffee while visiting Eastbourne recently. The atmosphere and service are very friendly and the food and coffee are delicious. We loved the tofu poke bowl and vegan breakfast. The flat white coffee with soy milk was great too. Highly recommended!

Been visiting Nelsons for a while now, missed sitting in during lockdown and was nice to return finally, very small coffee house but the food and drink definitely make up for it, the pecan pie brownie is to die for! 😊

We had a delicious breakfast here - great service and I particularly enjoyed the eggs Benedict with trout. Much better value and quality than chains in the area.

I’ve had a few awesome brunches here - trying many of the different vegetarian options all of which were delicious. The range of drinks and cakes is also fantastic. (The almond croissant is the best I have ever had). Service always really friendly and the presentation of the food is exemplary.The reason for 4 stars is similar to other comments, it is very tight space wise and not really suitable for young kids (toddlers). Bar that though I would recommend all day long!

Really good. Tasty. Good coffee. Very nice staff. And the food... OMG. Tasty, well cooked, and the most surprising thing was finding out that they served me organic eggs which makes such a big difference.

Space is quite tight and tables very small. You feel as if you were on a take-away café at the station.Coffee is good and there are some options for brunch but I feel it is over priced for what it is. Better cafes nearby.

My partner and I have been coming here regularly for about a year. It's my number one place for anything a drink or breakfast/lunch related. We even went to Nelsons at night (unfortunately stopped now) and we loved that too! The food is always so so tasty and presented really well. I am vegan and I'm so happy with the options here... it's not overpriced lettece. The avocado on toast with pickled beetroot and all the other bits is so yum for breakfast and for lunch the tofu teriyaki bowl is amazing (and filling!). I'm in there at least once a week and the staff are lovely and I've never left without them making sure they say bye and thank you!

Nous sommes allés à Nelson Coffee un lundi matin. Le capuccino et le mocha sont excellents. Croissants corrects. Ambiance cocon. Cependant nous avons attendu très longtemps et le croissant aux amandes était très compact.

Can be very busy, but a few minutes wait is soon rewarded by choice and service. I recommend the brunch menu and specialty coffees.

Called in here for coffee late afternoon Friday. Great coffee, well brewed and nicely served. Stayed for a cocktail as we were still there when happy hour started - again good value and nicely served

Great lunch at Nelsons- well presented and so tasty. Unfortunately they have removed the option of feta cheese from the avocado on toast which is such a shame. Would be great to have that back!Fritters are super! I wonder whether having waiter-waitress service would stop the queues near the till/door which can be off putting. Just an idea!! Staff are very efficient and food is great. We will be back!

My absolute favourite place for lunch. Fantastic food and drinks. Nelson offers something a little bit different when it comes to food and I LOVE it!!!!

As soon as you walk in, there's a great buzz about this place. The staff are welcoming. The coffee is great. The food is too gorgeous! Its' a lovely friendly place to visit.

Very disappointed with my most recent visit to this establishment. Normally it’s one of my favourite places to eat and I have been here countless times and enjoyed it a lot.

We've been here recently for breakfast and then this evening we had dinner and both meals were out standing. The chef here really knows his food. It's not your traditional food and for that reason I wasn't sure if my parents would like it but they loved it! So there really is something for everyone. The place is decorated to a high standard, modern and cosy. It's very snug so I wouldnt take young children here really especially with a buggy. The coffee is good, never strong enough for me but I simply add an extra shot but it comes in a nice class and is well made. The staff are polite. This evening I think the manager was in at one of the tables tonight giving out orders to the the ladies behind the counter which was little unprofessional but it didn't bother us too much. Overall its a 10/10 eatery.

Went in for brunch and it never fails to be good. I had scrambled eggs on sourdough and it's delicious. My daughter loves the gluten free pancakes. Personally I don't really like the coffee here, but that's just my personal taste as my daughters love it.

Great food. Excellent services ! The taste of the food is fresh and nicely hot...also I like the green juice.

I enjoyed a lunch here with my family and we all opted for breakfast variants. I had the vegetarian breakfast and it was superb, the quality of the ingredients was very high and service was fast and efficient too. Prices are a little higher than other places but I felt that the quality offset this. I would happily recommend and be willing to visit again the next time I'm down in Eastbourne.

One of the best cafes, my top 3 (if not the number 1) in the world. Great ambient, good music, amazing food, best organic ingredients, friendly staff, great coffee, everything is perfect here. Shame I'm from London... but I guess I'll have to come more often to Eastbourne just to have the best breakfast ever. Thanks guys. PS: no wonder why is always full of happy people!

Wij waren hier als gezin om te brunchen, erg leuk café! Heerlijke koffie en een groot menu om jouw lunch uit te kiezen. We waren erg tevreden en vonden het gepocheerd ei gerecht het lekkerst. Zeker een aanrader om hier te ontbijten.

Been here a few times and each time our food has been lovely. The acai bowl is very nice. I usually go for the breakfast board which is updated seasonally. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Been a regular to Nelsons ever since it opened and it never lets you down! Coffee is outstanding as are the almond croissant & the breakfasts! Highly recommend

Coffee and food is always amazing. It is a bit more expensive than other places but you get what you pay for. Service is always attentive. I just wish it was in a bigger venue!

Polite staff and nice cafe, however the coffees we had were quite sour. Possibly to do with the blend used as each shot is weighed. A lot of froth for a flat white and the oat milk wasn’t great. For speciality coffee I was disappointed.

I was very impressed with the standard of care taken with the presentation and the nutritious organic feel of the food and the place. The food tasted amazing and well worth a visit!

Having tried so many different cafes in different cities including London and Brighton, also cafes abroad, Nelson is so far the best we've ever tried. We visited this place quite a few times for food and everytime we were not disappointed. Often restaurants have fluctuated quality but Nelson kept to its high standard everytime we visited. The food were beautifully presented, cooked amazing and rich in flavours.

We entered the café #4.30pm. As we sat down, the unfriendly waitress said they will be closing at 5pm. So we drank up and left, this unfriendly place.

Decided to try out Nelson after a really crap breakfast from a nearby cafe (my fault for the impulsive decision and not doing the research).

Been to Nelsons more times I can remember. The reason is clear as the food they serve is very good tasting and well presented. A firm favourite is the breakfast and the eggs Benedict. Never been disappointed. Even had an evening meal out one night and ordered the tapas style meal. Worth a visit and you will not be disappointed. When in EASTBOURNE to give them a try.

I probably visit this cafe at least once a week and it is always fantastic. The best coffee and consistently high quality, original food. The service is excellent - the staff work very hard and are always friendly. The perfect cafe.

Visited here this morning with our three small children on a recommendation from a friend. We loved it, loved the menu choices, the atmosphere was good and the staff really friendly and helpful! I went for the veggie breakfast with a few changes and it was no trouble for them - it was delicious. Our kids enjoyed their pancakes too! Will definitely be returning to try out more of the menu!

Amazing little cafe, right at the door steps of the Eastbourne station is a treat to the taste buds.The food quality, taste and presentation was one of the best ! The fritter stack is my favourite.

Great delicious food freshly made with gluten free options. The smashed avocado on toast was delicious and looked beautiful with lots of seeds, tomatoes, radishes, etc. Falafel wrap and chips - very filling and delicious. All food well presented. Always busy but friendly and good service. Look forward to going back. Great place to eat!

The food here was absolutely delicious and a wide range of options including vegan, which is particularly impressive in a traditional town like Eastbourne. My mum and I both enjoyed the grain bowl which had a good balance of quinoa, pea hummus and an Asian slaw!
