What a great welcome we got here I came with a friend and the staff are friendly and helpful Lunch Scampi was so good It was also lovely and warm on a really cold day

It was a cold rainy day and when we walked in there were 2 lovely roaring fires, so welcoming. The food was amazing, I had the Nelsons pie and oh my it was so tasty and the banoffee pie was heavenly. All homemade food and reasonably priced.

Just had a fantastic meal for a family of 4 at The Nelson Butt in Spilsby. Great service and great food. What more can you ask for! Will definitely be returning.

Having stopped for a drink previously in the week, we decided we would try this pub for dinner. We rang them earlier in the evening to book a table, and they said they had a big group booked in but they still managed to squeeze us in. The pub and garden are both dog friendly, we sat in the very inviting beer garden. Food was great! Good quality pub grub, very generous portions. Reasonably priced for the size of the meals. Service was quick and all the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Popped in here for a drink after discovering most places shut on a Saturday afternoon. We had been here previously for lunch, so we were happy to sit in the beer garden with a drink , and chat with friendly staff! Great service, reasonably priced drinks and a nice location.

We decided to go to the Nelson Butt for Sunday Lunch for my birthday. There were 11 of us plus a high chair and we had their function room to ourselves, which was great as the toddler in the party could roam free and not get out of the room. The waitresses were excellent and not confused by our random way of ordering. We had starters and everyone chose either brie or pate, both came with salad and chutney and toast with the pate. For the main everyone had either pork or beef, both were very nice. also on the plate were roast potatoes and a yorkie. There was a side platter with fresh carrots, cauli, broccoli and mash. Then we had puddings and coffee. We all enjoyed the food and would definitely return for Sunday lunch again. Thank you for a lovely birthday meal.

Visited one lunchtime and had a fantastic meal. The pub was busy but we were served quickly at the bar and shown to our table. We were given the menu and shown the specials board. Our waitress was very attentive and took our order without any delay. The food was delightful and we both enjoyed our meals, especially the home made chips. A warm and welcoming traditional pub. The Sunday roast was lovely could not fault it, very filling and more than enough for us. Didn't have to wait long and it was nice and hot. Friendly and attentive staff with a great sense of humour. Well worth a visit.

As a family we attended for Sunday lunch When we finally got our dinner served 45mins after we ordered which was shocking as we were the only ones in there at that time. The fact that it costs £13 for lunch is not a problem. The problem lies with you get not alot for the money. On every plate there was only 3 small potatoes, one Yorkshire pudding and a sliver of beef which was ridiculously thin. You do get veg served separately. for a 6ft6 bloke with a healthy appetite i can assure you that it was no where near enough to eat. We have been here many times before however it has seriously gone down hill

We not from here but the food was very traditional and exceptional I would definitely recommend eating here that’s for sure very friendly open fire delicious food 10/10

This is the second year we have been to Turkey Sunday at The Nelson and we weren't disappointed. Excellent yet again and we had a throughly enjoyable afternoon sitting chatting with two other guests. The service was great so thank you to Erica and everyone at The Nelly.

We visited the Nelson Butt while holidaying in the area on a Saturday afternoon. We had our dog with us so we sat in the covered seats in the beer garden. The staff were very accommodating and served us outside. They offered the 2nd snug but we preferred to stay outside. We had the mixed grill and lasagne. Huge portions. All of the meats were well cooked. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The lasagne was huge and accompanied by a side salad and coleslaw. I couldn't finish it all! All in all, great pub grub.

Really god pub grub. Honest and down to earth pub grub. Service warm and courteous. All portions are very generous and filling. Eat there often in the week as opposed to week ends.

For our monthly get together we chose the Nelson Butt in Spilsby for lunch. The service, quality of food and comfortable surroundings made it a really enjoyable visit. We will certainly be visiting this great English pub again.

Evening meal with friends. The staff were very helpful and very friendly and helpful. We all had different meals and all the meals were good, but here the but the menu was goods. As long as you were not vegetarian and only a choice of 3 and Only one I would eat , but saying that it excellent and by far the best tart I have had , but more choice for vegetarian please but will still give you 10 out of 10

Food is first rate, and Glen (chef and owner) provides very good service. Prices are moderate and provide good value for money.

We visited for the second time in 5 weeks (we aren’t local to the area, but caravan nearby). The food, service and welcome was just wonderful. We all had a starter and main course and couldn’t find a fault with any of it, the food was delicious, well cooked and well presented. There’s plenty of choice on the menu with generous portion sizes. Would definitely recommend the Nelson pie and hunters chicken. The pub has a great atmosphere and all of the staff are friendly. Will definitely be going back. Also worth a mention that the pub is dog friendly which is a massive bonus.

Generally come over to Spilsbyonly once a year and always eat here. Food was very good , plenty of it at reasonable prices. Chips were excellent and with a good selection of beer all very enjoyable

A well hidden gem of a place providing excellent, high quality food, using fresh ingredients served in generous portions, very promptly at very reasonable prices by friendly, personable staff. I have visited 5 times in just over 5 weeks on different occasions, with husband, with friends and with family for a celebration meal. Nothing is too much trouble - a rare find these days.The two snugs, one dining room and the bar area all contribute to a very cosy, welcoming feel. I only wish I could be here to experience the log fire in the colder months!

We booked a table for two for Sunday lunch second sitting,barman who had no personality said your table is not ready,we came at 1.20 for 1.30 we have no problem with waiting, the problem was by 1.45 & other table for two still empty I questioned this to be told it's pre booked,I said but we've booked,then in walks a couple went straight to the table waitress come straight out and takes thier order,in the meantime by 2.pm were still waiting like lemons,I said to happy barman were going,he shrugged and said are you sure. We went to the Royal Oak revsby which was packed what a different resption and we hadn't even booked with them.no wonder pubs close.

A bit late writing this. I retired at the end of July and had a leaving do here. Glen provided a delicious and generous buffet at a very reasonable cost. We had access to a private room at the back, but fortunately the weather was kind to us and we sat outside. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is always a board outside showing that day’s specials. Portion sizes are generous and there is an excellent choice.

Since Glen took over, redecorated and refurbished the property, the whole ambience has improved. The food is varied, well presented and well cooked. Service is generally good, but occasionally could be quicker by the young people serving. It is always worth our ten mile drive from Horncastle to enjoy this facility. A well deserved reputation over the local area.

It was a raining Saturday evening and decided on popping in somewhere to eat. We had tried one place in Spilsby, walked in and walked out! Then we had a wander and found the Nelson Butt. It was meant to be! We asked if they had a table for 2 but only to be told they were fully booked. It was very busy and a lovely atmosphere. We sat and had a drink at the bar and a man from behind the bar came and said he’d rearranged things and could do a table (who I now believe to be the owner/chef Glen). Result as we were hungry! The waitress was lovely and very helpful. We plumped for the chicken in brandy sauce and salmon. Both meals were very generous and gorgeous. I also had the apple crumble - delicious! Hats off to you Glen for such a great establishment. We’d definitely come again! Ps the prices were very reasonable for the high standard of cuisine!

We managed to get a last minute booking in this very popular pub. Having now had a meal there, I can see why it's so popular. The food was amazing, and the portion sizes were great. We all commented on how good the chips were. They were very accommodating with the fussy eaters on our table, too. The waitresses were very polite and professional and got our orders spot on.

We booked ahead for this popular village pub. My husband had pork belly which was a big portion with mashed potato underneath - he chose chips and peas to accompany it as he didn’t realise it came with potato - he wished he had chosen vegetables. But he really enjoyed his main course and left the chips. There were three choices for vegetarians, curry, goats cheese tart and mushroom stroganoff which I had with rice and salad. A good sized portion which was tasty and creamy. We then chose desserts - my husband had a trifle which looked as though it had been assembled in a glass from separate easy ingredients- at a guess - tinned fruit, sponge cake and brought custard. I had Belgian waffle which had chocolate sauce, chocolate ice cream and squirty cream all over the top - which I scraped off as I don’t like cream but I hadn’t said as it hadn’t been mentioned on the menu. The staff were pleasant and the service was good. The food was tasty but we wish we’d had starters rather than desserts. Drink choices were usual bar type drinks. Reasonable choice of real ales.

Really fancied the pork belly but know can be fatty - wow what a decent size portion of pork belly and hardly any fat andloads of meat. The chips where ace and veg was lovely 😊

On arrival, i was greeted with a warm welcome, i can say i truly enjoyed my stay here at this charming pub, and all the staff were ever so friendly! even the chef who i do believe is the owner came out from the kitchen to have a chat, this is what we need more of in today's world human contact, Hats off to all the staff for a wonderful service and serving beautiful food! and that Haddock from Grimsby absolutely Divine!!! Staying locally and had the Nelson Butt recommended to us. We found the friendly atmosphere most welcoming and the food was prepared and served in house we were told...and the plates were full! Very generous portions for a vert reasonable price. Tried to return the next night but we hadn't booked and they were full. Not surprised. Excellent.

We had a really tasty, well cooked meal here! Really nice food, great menu and very large portions! The staff are all very friendly, and we spoke to several when returning for drinks. Would definitely recommend, the landlord is also one of the chefs and seems to be a really lovely gentleman! Hope to return in the future.

Cannot recommend this enough lovely pub smashing food and plenty of it, very friendly and a warm welcome, absolutely love going here. Brother had his 80th Birthday party here in one of the snugs and we had a wonderful time. Cannot wait to go again.

Went in today (25th of April) for lunch with my brother, mum and grandma. Service from the start was excellent. The staff were polite and professional. The food was amazing. I had chicken with Stilton sauce. The chicken was beautifully cooked. The waffle for dessert was to die for. 5 out of 5 for everything. Definitely going back. Keep up the good work guys.

We called here for a pub lunch yesterday and were struck by the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of this lovely pub. The food and drink were very good and the staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful. We will definitely call again.

I was invited to a birthday celebration at this old pub and came away very satisfied. part from the excellent food we were really looked after by a team of young people who had obviously been trained how to look after the customers. It was a delightful experience and I can’t wait for my next visit.

This is an unusual review in as much as it was for an after funeral buffet. I have visited the Pub before for lunchtime and evening meals. This however was different with around sixty people attending the buffet. The food was excellent with a good range on offer. The staff were so obliging it certainly made the afternoon bearable. I can recommend the Nelson Butt wholeheartedly.

We were staying in the area overnight and decided to return to the Nelson Butt again after a great experience 2 years ago.

Food was fantastic, I had the nicest lamb shank that I've ever had. Massive amount of meat, beautifully cooked and lots of rich and tasty gravy. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. Will definitely be coming back.

In Horncastle for a week with our 3 Frenchies, we were on our way back from mabelthorpe checking on places to eat on way home. We came to the NelsonButt and what a good choice we sat in the lovely beer garden the staff were really friendly and made you feel welcome the food was delicious, my husband is a really fussy eater and nothing was too much trouble, the only down side the dessert we were so full with all are delicious starter and main we couldn’t fit one in! Will have to return again to sample the desserts!

All reviews are spot on. Nothing too much trouble for staff and meal cannot be summed up in words,you need to experience the taste and vision experience. So much flavour in everyone’s meal from the pies,belly pork,steak, to the summer berries pavlova,lemon posette,sherry trifle and apple crumble and custard. Anyone hungry now?

We booked for last Sunday lunch , I had the Brie wedge , followed by the roast beef , mash potatoes, various veg , roast potatoes, big Yorkey pudding

Arrived at the Nelson Butt and tried to park in the car park , but please beware it is only small and if there are no spaced you need to reverse back down a long alley way .

We stumbled into the Nelson Butt a few weeks ago and now eat here at least one a week. Food is fresh, wholesome and a very high standard . Glen is a good chef (Not a 'warmer upper' as a lot of places). The Waiting Staff are great (Ipsy and Dipsy) who are attentive and great for recommendations

First visit to the town and the pub.Classic pub food some done particularly well. My husband had the pie which was a very generous portion and he said was very tasty. I had the breaded brie to start which was not warmed through enough. They couldn't have have been more apologetic and didn't charge us; followed by the goats cheese tartlet which was very nice. On the whole a pleasant evening thank you very much. Exterior of the pub very pretty however the interior let it down somewhat.

After a recommendation we called in on Saturday night to see if they could fit us in for a meal .they were fully booked but managed to fit us in . The food was fantastic,the service was quick couldn’t fault a thing . Would definitely recommend and return. Top marks

Ate here on Saturday lunchtime and had 5 pints of extremely well kept Batemans XB. A lunch deal of 2 courses for £10 was available and it was excellent value. Beautiful haddock in a very crisp batter. The young lady behind the bar was friendly and welcoming. Very happy with my trip.

We had previously enjoyed a meal at the Nelson Butt in Spilsby, so we were quite happy to return after a seven mile walk from Stickford to East Kirkby and back, We were greeted by a chirpy young man behind the bar who served us drinks and offered us a tempting menu.

A friendly greeting by barman, who showed us to table and took drink order. Waitress took food order. Choice was excellent for lunchtime with extra specials and deals available. I had homemade Nelson pie with Stilton and mushroom and loads of good quality beef, served with 3 veg and mashed potatoes. I never thought I'd eat it as large but so Good, I just had to. Husband had prawn salad with chips. Again very generous portion of prawns and salad was excellent and very well presented with what looked like homemade bread ( I didn't ask) very reasonable prices and prompt, friendly service. Best pub in town & can't fault the food,went for our anniversary my Husband wanted the Belly Pork so was disappointed when told there wasn't any,he had a burger instead which looked & tasted good,I had the homemade beef pie which was lovely,we will be going back again hopefully to try the belly pork!

I had the privilege of sharing Sunday lunch with my Mum and Dad this past weekend and we went out for a great meal in Spilsby, I highly recommend the Nelson Butt. You get a warm and friendly welcome from all the staff, enjoy a lovely warmth from a couple of natural wood fireplaces and are served tasty, well prepared & presented food... my only regret was choosing a starter as After my dinner I was then too full for dessert!!

We had Sunday lunch at this pub with my daughter, her husband and his parents. We were warmly welcomed and quickly seated as my daughter had booked a table (essential on a Sunday apparently).

Food was really nice and the staff very sweet and welcoming.really enjoyed my very cheery sherry Trifle .only thing that put me off where the locals . It’s like the place has never seen a lesbian couple before .so for this I would not go back as the laughing and staring from the couple at the bar really upset me .
