Neighbourhood Bakehouse in Cheshire West and Chester

My partner and I booked a table on a whim on the train to Chester after googling “eggs florentine” and it didn’t disappoint. It’s beautiful, cozy, atmospheric. The cafe is bustling yet intimate and not echoey. Service was very friendly and, despite being busy, efficient. Yes, we had to wait a bit to get the bill, but that gave us time to finish our fantastic Bloody Mary’s. Food was quality, fresh, and tasty. This will now be our go-to place when coming to Chester for the day. But it seems it’s best to book as it is popular. Not sure if they do walk ins.

Where to begin?! I hired Neighbourhood for my 30th birthday last month. Catherine was amazing to communicate with from initially booking the venue to the actual party date. The guests and I had the best night and everything exceeded expectations from the food, bar staff, drinks to the atmosphere! I could not recommend Neighbourhood enough for anyone looking for a venue hire. Thanks so much again Catherine

What a beautiful place …. Was perfect for my ladies gathering pre wedding! Staff so friendly and efficient, food excellent quality and beautifully presented. Definitely recommend for a private party ! 🎉

best bakery around! Just tried the sourdough bread and it was good quality even though it's not organic, The wholemeal sourdough was surprisingly soft! & Well baked. Also the Bakewell tart was so delicious. Thank you.. Gonna visit again while in Chester 🙏✨

The Neighbourhood bakehouse is everything. The staff was amazing and friendly. The desserts? Pastel de nata, ginger carrot cake and Nutella croissant were some of the best treats I’ve had in a long while. Just across from the Pied Bull in Chester, England thjs will be the Go To spot for me whenever I’m even close. 10/10 will visit again.

The cafe is nicely decorated and clean. When entering the cafe we informed the waiter that we would like to have coffee and cake. After settling at the table, we noticed there was a menu for drinks only. When we asked the waiter about cake options, he told us that we would need to go next door to choose a cake, come back to the table and then tell him which cakes we would like to order. He would then add them to the bill. Perhaps there could be a more efficient way of ordering. Also, we were charged £7.50 for the £6.25 piece of lemon tart and £5.94 for the £4.95 brownie. It should be made clear to customers that an additional 20% would be added to the cakes that you choose from next door. Had the prices been shown on a menu, we would not have ordered the cakes. All in all, the coffee was good and fairly priced, but the piece of lemon tart was certainly not worth £7.50 a piece.

Tried this bakery as it is associated with my local White Horse Pub, support yr locals. Had run out of donuts by 12.30 I had wanted for my small grandchildren but bought cookies instead that they loved. Bought pies sausage rolls and 3 sourdough that whilst expensive for a loaf of bread at a fiver it followed my old adage, the best things in life tend to be expensive - absolutely delicious. One suggestion, have a bread slicer like Gail’s save all that cutting when you get home - ideally, thin, medium, thick A very good experience will be back next week for more.

Today my sister and I came across this bistro resturant. What a find the ambiance was lovely. Clean and comfortable. The best was the food. Ohh the bruischetto was sooo good. To follow rump steak bap with chips extre charge cooked just right. Glass of wine then our treat desert couldn't fault it definitely will be going back. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. Thank you for our great treat day.

Visied Chester for the day with friends and came across this wonderful gem. Had a delicious ferro rocher hot chocolate. The Neighbourhood Bakehouse had a lovely atmosphere, so immediately decided to book for lunch. The food was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The decor is outstanding too. Absolutely loved this place.

Very slow and disorganised service today. Was asked at the end if I was paying by cash or card by the waiter then the older chap came over to say they didn’t accept cash. Strange as they did last week, the younger waiter clearly hadn't been told and there was no sign indicating this. Despite having several cards I paid in cash and my £4 change was not forthcoming after several more minutes wait so I assume they decided to keep it. I will not repeat the mistake of eating here again.

What a find! We visited Chester for the day with our friends from Shrewsbury and so glad we found this place. We had the two course special with wine, the food was excellent, the service was superb and the decor added so much to the experience. They also have a deli next door with all homemade produce. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!

Been here a number of times, always lovely food and service. Decent menu although not ideal if you've a fussy child with you. Highly recommend.

Neighbourhood Bakehouse hosted a meal for my best friends hen, there were 15 of us. Food was exquisite, drinks were perfect and we had amazing service. I had a theme and decorations and Catherine was so helpful in making the evening so special for my friend. I only ever knew of Neighbourhood as a bakery or cafe, but its restaurant service is just as fabulous. Highly recommend !!

I eat out a lot and can be very difficult having coeliac disease which is an allergy to gluten. There are many places that charge a very small surcharge fee to have gluten-free bread however now I've experienced neighbourhoods menu and food I cannot believe the extortionate, unbelievable and unacceptable charges for gluten-free bread to charge. £1.50 extra, per slice, for gluten-free bread is an absolute disgrace and an insult to celiac sufferers which were born with this disease and not a chosen option like vegans or vegetarians. I would love to know that justification for such an absurd, ridiculous charge a coeliac sufferer that extortionate price ????

Discovered by accident whilst out. Really friendly and the food excellent.

Oh my lawd! The lemon meringue croissant is to die for - soft croissant filled with lemon creme patissiere and topped with marshmallow-y meringue. It will likely haunt my dreams until I can go back for another *drool*

This is the second time we have been here for breakfast. Stunning breakfast, great coffee, beautiful setting and attentive staff, what more could you want?!

Came across this place while walking around Chester, saw some delicious looking food in the window of the bakehouse. We chose the filled focaccia which the lady offered to heat. It was delicious. Thoroughly recommend.

First visit and absolutely loved it. Brilliant environment with live jazz in the background on the Friday night. Food was fantastic - fresh and great quality with a Mediterranean theme - desserts to die for…. Highly recommended!

The attention to detail, cleanliness and attitude of the staff is second to none. A great range of food that was cooked to perfection. Definitely one to visit.

Slow service. The staff spend a lot of time chatting to each other. Very cramped. I may aswell have sat on the lap of the man on the next table. For the prices I would expect better really.

Welcoming staff. Seated in a very nice, modern, super-clean space. Food exceptional, served piping hot, great value for money. Best service in recent months, renewing my faith that there are still good establishments out there to enjoy!

What a lovely calm dinning experience

Was mesmerised by the strawberry cheesecake in the bake house so just had to pop in and have one with a coffee. All my friends would love this place because it’s so clean. The mirrors on the walls were spotless, not one finger mark or smear. The whole place sparkled. The interior, Karen explained, was designed by the owners who got their inspiration from Mallorca. Lots of symmetry inside so it is ordered but so relaxing too because of the ambient lighting from ceiling pendants.

Friday 15 March was Graduation Day and four of us were welcomed into Neighbourhood Bakehouse by the charming staff. We sat at the window table and enjoyed excellent main courses followed by a platter of mixed sweets/cakes which were first class. Truly ten out of ten ! … many thanks and best wishes.

I hadn’t been here before and had a very enjoyable experience. I visited with friends at lunchtime. We had a mixture of foods, Brie & Cranberry Sandwich, Homemade Quiche & Lasagne. All the food was lovely. The staff were chatty and helpful.

I usually grab a coffee from Neighbourhood on the go but today the weather was rubbish so I thought I could sit in. I went in and was asked if we were there for Lunch and I mentioned that initially we only wanted a coffee and cake to which I was refused and that we could only sit down if we were having lunch. So basically I was only welcome if I was spending more money. I wouldn’t mind but there were multiple tables vacant. It’s frustrating as Neighbourhood was once a go to for me and my boyfriend for coffee but after that experience I doubt we will be going again.

We were on an overnight stay in Chester and wished to enjoy some the the City’s excellent eating establishments and so skipped the hotel breakfast and explored. We can across Neighbourhood Bakery which had an inviting external appeal and we ventured in after scanning the menu. The interior was bistro style, warm, I comfortable and with friendly waiting staff I had sourdough toast, with avocado, smoked salmon and miniature red peppers, a delicacy I’d never previously tried. As the attached photo shows, the meal was beautifully presented and my accompanying coconut latter was delicision. Highly recommended and for those who like something more substantial, they serve a bottomless brunch for £40pp, something I might have been tempted by, had I not been going out for lunch 😊

Went there multiple times but the last two we got served stale pastries.

Don't bother. They don't know what is on their menu and don't obviously talk to each other. Order never arrived. Plenty other places. Coffee was ok though.

I took my daughter for brunch today at Neighbourhood bake house and it was absolutely divine! The service was spot on, the interior was impeccably designed and yet retained a casual and cosy atmosphere. My daughter had the “non” hangover bap and I had the eggs florentine and we both agreed it was the best brunch we had eaten in a very very long time (and we love eaten out for brunch!). I am a self confessed foodie and can not recommend this gem of a place highly enough!

I visited Neighbourhood with a friend, for a quick bite. It was busy - the front of house team were rushed on their feet and the ladies seemed a bit out of sorts. My friend had a toastie, which was OK, I had lasagna and I was absolutely delighted with that - very similar to the lasagna l had in a top restaurant in Florence, so l highly recommend it. Nevertheless, service was not great so sadly, because of that, I can't say it was an excellent all around experience. Also, the toilet situation (with 1 out of the 2 toilets being out of order) is far from ideal. I would rush back for that lasagna, but unsure l'm ready to, because of the hectic, chaotic service.

Wonderful food, brilliant service, and a fantastic atmosphere, I would recommend a visit. A perfect drink "I had" was called a hot tonic. In fact, I had two it was so so good. All ready looking forward to my next visit. Thank you.

Such delicious cakes! Bought three vegan cakes to take out (carrot cake, biscoff, oreo). Slightly pricey but worth it for the taste and portion sizes. There was also a place to sit in to enjoy our treats if we wanted.

My boyfriend and I have visited Neighbourhood for brunch every week since I moved to Chester almost a year ago. It is our one of our favourites spots in Chester - great food, always such a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere. Plus the most amazing bakery next door to grab a cinnamon bun on your way out!

Fabulous evening , celebrating my partners 50th birthday - perfect cool venue. We chose Neighbourhood due to its intimate setting & we had dined there before. The cocktails & food are fabulous. The team are so accommodating helpful & friendly and nothing was too much trouble . We hired our own DJ too and took some of our own props ! If you want to hire a special unique place in Chester for a birthday or event , this is the place to hire ! Be back soon for the jazz nights !

AMAZING PARTY VENUE! We booked this venue for a 21st birthday party and it was perfect. Catherine and the staff were amazing, so attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and they made us a birthday cake which was spectacular. The venue is beautifully decorated already and made the perfect backdrop for photos. I would highly recommend for a small party of up to 50 people.

We went here for New Years Eve and it was fantastic from the food to the service. I would absolutely recommend coming to this venue.

Cracking food and excellent coffee

Visited this restaurant last week while visiting the Christmas market and it was excellent. The lady who served us was really friendly and professional and we had a nice table. We both went for the turkey sandwich which was really well presented and very nice indeed. Great venue and would highly recommend if visiting Chester.

This was a great venue for our office Christmas party. The atmosphere was great and everyone enjoyed the setting and central location. The food and drink, as always, was excellent.

I popped into this place today for a croissant. Price £3.50. Got out my purse and was told card only. When I asked if this was always the case, the answer was yes. How many of us are complicit and don't question this? it should be remembered that for every person using a card there is someone out there who can't. PLEASE ask whenever you can to use cash. It may save someone's life. Too many people are going into debt especially over Christmas.

Despite living in Chester for years, I have only just stumbled across this lovely little place! Me and my partner popped in for a couple of drinks and some nibbles. Decor, atmosphere, service and produce were all 10/10. We ended up coming back the following weekend for breakfast and it was fantastic. Definitely our new favourite place in Chester - just gorgeous all round for all occasions.

There are some very good points about the Neighbourhood Bakehouse but it could have been so much better. The staff are very friendly and helpful on the whole and the interior is welcoming and cosy. It started really well, we were welcomed by a lovely member of staff and felt very much at home. We ordered our lunch which came in reasonable time and was enjoyed by all even though we felt it was a little overpriced for the portion sizes. But after our main meals we were left for a very long time without anyone clearing the table. Eventually I got up and went to the counter to ask if we could have coffee and cake. The waitress was busy cleaning but the staff member she was chatting to wasn't doing anything at all. We received the cakes but the mains dishes still hadn't been cleared off the table. A lovely waitress sorted that out as soon as she noticed. The cakes arrived in good time but even after everyone had finished eating them there was still no sign of any coffee and everyone at this point was a bit fed up. The bakewell tart was nice, the carrot cake had a great flavour but tasted as if it had been out all day as it was quite dried out. And the brown sugar tart was honestly quite stale. On checking the bill I found out that the tart was just under £7.00 for a small slice, so I believe that is very overpriced. The cakes were around £5.75 each and we would have been okay with that price if they weren't so dried out. Maybe it was because it was at the end of the week late on a Sunday. It started well and just ended up with us all feeling fed up.

A beautiful spot for lunch, friendly and efficient staff, delicious food presented with great care. Great selection of drinks including cocktails and speciality coffees. Everything was tasty, clean plates all round. Will definitely be going back soon.

First time visiting today. What a lovely place. Friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere. My Husband had a beautiful Egg Florentine. I had the vegan breakfast. Sorry guys but please get rid of the vegan sausage. They were pretty awful and not needed. Please be a bit more creative for the vegan breakfast. Also change the soya milk split in the coffee. This will not put me off visiting again. 😊

This is the second time I have been here and the service was just as slow as the first time. You have to wait ages for your drinks then when they finally arrive you can drink a full pot of tea waiting for your food...
