Ristorante Sergio in Cheshire West and Chester

Visited off the cuff on a Saturday afternoon, able to seat us straight away. Service was great, food was quickly delivered, piping hot and delicious . Reasonably priced. Note 7% tip is automatically added to the bill.

Don’t waste your time going here!!! Food is absolutely disgusting, both mine and my partners food was foul, I understand that it was busy but we had booked in advance and were practically pushed out the restaurant. Pasta was watery, bland and was the worst dish i’ve had out before Asked for a jug of water for the table and practically got two shot glasses of water , asked for another drink and didn’t come and then after we paid we got chased out the door because they missed 39p off the total bill I mean what a joke! I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time nor your money here as both the service and food were both awful, i’d sooner go to the other Italian restaurants that are actually good in the area.

My mum came here first with work friends and loved it. She got the 2 course offer, portions were smaller and everything was super tasty. Went back with myself but missed the 2 course offer so we opted for a starter each and to share a main. Mum got the Italian meats which for a starter was too big, way too salty, the parma/serrano ham was so thick (she got this last time and it was perfect) I got the calamari which was just inedible, the coating was a mix between breaded and battered, the squid was thin and bland. We mentioned this when our plates were cleared, the manager asked what I meant by bland and I replied no flavour. He didn't say anything just took the plate and walked away, he did take it off the bill. But no apology, no conversation, nothing. From someone who's always worked hospitality, this wasn't the way to go about it. Can't say I'll be going back but if you do decide to go, the 2 course lunch deal seems to be a lot better

Recommended by our professor. It's amazing! Excellent food and service. Large portions with reasonable prices. The food took about 20 mins to come. Zucchine Ripiene was super warm and tender. Roasted courgette filled and topped with different cheeses. The sauce was light but really good. Tagliolini Mare e Monti blended the taste of mushroom, scampi, cream and tomato perfectly together. Could be better if a bit less salty. Tiramisu was soft and mild - just about the right. Really love the mascarpone cheese!

Waited an hour between starter and main course, and had to ask for the main. When it came, one of the meals was cold and had to be replaced. That said the rest of the food was good

Party of 4, each had a 3 course meal. Bruschetta could be improved, seemed like a slice of bread with a topping placed on top. Garlic mushrooms were decent, mussels close to overdone but edible. Pizza was very nice, pasta dish was good and plentiful. Desserts were good. Atmosphere was loud, but then again, a full restaurant is a good sign. I did witness a male waiter wiper his nose with his hand, then handle someones glass at the bar. If I hadn't have seen it, it would have been an issue. I would recommend as we did all enjoyed the food and the two bottles of house white mine. We would likely visit again.

We came to visit Ristorante Sergio on a really busy Monday evening, we didn’t have a reservation but they kindly managed to squeeze us in. The food, wine and service were utterly fantastic. Generous potions and super fresh and tasty ingredients. Highly recommend.

Was welcomed ok ,but when sitting round the table talking to family in welsh was approached by a male server and was told no speaking that funny language only english or italian … 😡

We didn't realise that we had to book a table so got turned away by another restaurant. The managers in Ristaurante Sergio were so accommodating and found us a table very quickly despite us not having booked a table. There was a little error but this was rectified immediately by the Director (Sarah) and Dario (manager) who could not do enough to ensure we had the perfect night to celebrate 2 birthdays. Will definitely be returning as the atmosphere was lively and just perfect. I cannot fault the service at all, very attentive and friendly.

This is our go to place whenever we're in Chester. Staff are lovely, and food is excellent, with a great atmosphere. I would advise you book as it is always full.

Date got misgendered first thing on entering. We were so startled we didn't even think to just leave immediately, but it ruined our date pretty much instantly. Also really loud. Can't say anything about the food because we left when we realised we couldn't even hear eachother talking across the table. Probably fine if you're like, a straight couple or whatever, but yeah, that was definitely one of my worst dates ever.

Had an amazing lunch here with my date, the staff were very friendly and the food was very flavourful.

Booked a table for 8 and got seated at two tables pushed together one circular and one square table so they didn't really go together and was a tight squeeze for us all. Food was pretty good. Really helpful and kind waitress, although I asked for no ice in my drink and got served a drink full of ice so had to use an empty glass to get rid of the ice, not the end of the world but still a little annoying. No real complaints from our group as we enjoyed our evening!

Overall substandard dining experience. The waiting staff were efficient, but not particularly engaging. The food came quickly. Good portion size, but the seafood risotto, which looked amazing, was too bland in flavour. The worst of it was when we'd finished and confirmed no coffees or desert, the bill was brought over by a very rude waiter along with a card machine. I confirmed I'd be paying cash. Although the restaurant was only a quarter full he then shouted loudly that our table 17 soon be available, hovering around waiting for payment even though we still had drinks. Left a tip and wished I hadn't. We were walking out and he says Do you need your change? Annoying.

We have not been well welcome by Old guy. He should have been more polite to me and my family. He strongly needs a communicating through people who are the first time on your restaurant. If i come again to Chester, i wont prefer to come here. We got ofended.

Top marks for tasty food, generous portions. Waiting staff deserved the added 10% tip to bill. BUT! don't choose this place for a quiet romantic meal. It's very noisy & bank holiday Saturday early eve (6pm) we took the last table. Possibly something could be done to quiet the noise?? The floors & tables have no covers on them & the kitchen is open to the restaurant floor. I would definitely go back but hopefully another time when it's less chaotic.

Food and staff were lovely, but it was so loud we couldn’t hear the people we were sat with. It was so loud we left to get dessert elsewhere. Maybe some noise damping would fix it?

Called in for lunch, Friendly staff and nice atmosphere, seems to be a popular place for lunch. Good portions and good choices, food was also tasty. Well worth the £14.50 for 2 courses and a filter coffee. Would recommend when your in Chester. Main menu was also inviting.

After many visits to Sergio's, I was disappointed today. The quality of the food and service as always, was excellent. We chose from the fixed lunch menu, which at £14.50 for 2 courses, is cheaper than at most other restaurants. However, the portion size for the sardine starter was not huge and the cannelloni (more correctly described as canelloni, since there was only one tube) was totally inadequate for a main course. I appreciate they need to make a profit, however this seemed penny pinching to the extreme and the meal was, IMHO, worth less than the asking price.

Absolutely the best and affordable italian in chester. The Service and quality of food was amazing. 2 courses for 3 people with drinks 103 pounds. Great atmosphere and authentic italian surroundings. Would recommend and would return if in chester again. I would also book a table on a Saturday night as we waited 30 mins for a table but we were not in any hurry so wasn't an issue for us.

Food is tasty here. But what I don’t like about this place is that they charge the service fee without notifying, even on the take away. I have recently noticed they charged me with the 10% service fee for my take away but they have only said that that’s automatically added wrongly. Another time it was £7 remaining for me to pay at our group dinner. They put £10 on the post machine right after confirming that I’ll pay £7. The attitude of staff is not the most elite or friendly. The venue is a little too loud

Came here with the family. Really gorgeous place, great atmosphere, great value. Mussels starter was delicious. And Sergio’s fish special was divine. Pasta was really tasty. Would definitely opt for the pasta and meat main dishes over the pizza.

I take it the owners don't read these reviews or are to arrogant to be interested. Booked 2 months in advance for a party of 5, put on a sml round table (not a good start). Got drinks, starters, then 4 mains, mine was missing. Was told mine would be 15 minutes or did I want to order something else? Everyone finished their meal before mine even arrived so I told them not to bother, they'd spoiled the evening & I'd go to McDonald's. Management not bothered & presented me with the bill. I demanded a discount for spoiling the birthday experience which they knocked off about £10 only due to me protesting. Never again & I wish we walked out without paying a penny.. Such arrogant, horrible management. Theirs a lot better restaurants in Chester than this place & I'm only a visitor to Chester. I wouldn't even give 1 star but due to the nature of these reviews you have to at least give 1.

Food here was amazing! Really broad menu with loads to offer and it's all delicious. Only think I wasn't happy about was the staff at the end of the meal kept coming over to see if we were okay to an excessive amount. They were all stood by the till area staring at us and talking which I found rather uncomfortable.

Lovely meal here while in Chester last week

My wife and I attended for lunch during the week (they have a deal of 2 courses with a coffee for just under £15 per person), and like every other time we have been, the food was great, fresh, hot, tasty and delicious. The service is great, ans friendly, and like always, the restaurant was immaculate. My only gripe is that the music (always in italian) was so loud which made it hard to speak to my wife but this really is just splitting hairs.

One of the best Italian restaurants I have been to, I highly recommend the fish soup it's sublime, in fact I would drive from Telford to Chester just for a bowl, my wife mentioned something about the waiters and tight black trousers, but I had stopped paying attention by then.

Last Monday my friend and I were visiting Chester and went to Sergios at lunch time. We were very impressed with the food and the service. My friend has intolerances with some seafood and likes gluten free as well. The young waitress was very knowledgeable and pointed out meals that would suit him. Although very busy little place the service was quick and well presented. Will definitely return.

Everything is super bad. We waited for an hour and when we asked about the order they had not yet prepared it, they served people first who arrived after us, we could complain and the answer was: That's the restaurant, there are people who order weeks in advance (which has no meaning). meaning) they only brought the drinks in an hour and a half.

We went for lunch, the lunchtime me u is incredible value, the food was some of the best I've had from an Italian restaurant, I would highly recommend going if you're in the area

Great restaurant, really friendly atmosphere and good food.

I had pre booked a table for sat night, first impressions it looked like an authentic Italian restaurant, very busy and noisy which added to the atmosphere. Our table was in the gangway, we could see the waiting staff were stretched it looked manic. Ordered drinks, my white wine wasn't cold and they bought wrong size, it was soon corrected. But the food! My starter bruchetta was a tad salty and soggy. My main the monkfish was inedible, the tomato sauce was so so salty there were over 30 whole olive in it which added to the awful taste, the monkfish was tasteless. My partners pasta was ok at best. I should of complained at the time but seeing the utter chaos around us, decided to pick at what I could. Told the owner as he removed our plates of hardly eaten food, but he just shrugged. When we paid we could not add a tip, the waiting staff informed us they would not get it, I guess it goes to the business. If you wish to tip please take cash as it is then shared amongst the obviously hardworking overstretched staff.

This restaurant is always consistent in the quality of food they produce, and became a place we ate at frequently during our time in Chester. The prices are great, the atmosphere is cosy, and the staff are friendly. We would love to eat here again in the future.

Took a booking for a party of 10 took a deposit and wanted us to prebook the morning before. Upon checking the menu I saw that they would not accommodate for any allergy’s what so ever, they wouldn’t do anything at all to help, even though this was not disclaimed while booking and would not even have the one allergy critical meal made carefully and refused to have the one meal made with careful methods such as using gloves. Terrible service and I am glad I’m not spending my birthday in a place ran by such an arrogant man the way he spoke on the phone, he was told to keep the £50 deposit and put it somewhere where the sun doesn’t shine.

The restaurant locates in the alley that may need some effort to find it but it definitely worth to visit that the service is good and lovely. However they may forget whether we ordered the next dish but it didn't a big deal. There are lunch menu £12.95 provided that includes starter, main dish, and a cup of coffee. Btw 10% service fee will be charged. Rucchini ripiene (zucchini with tomato sauce and cheese) It is really nice with a little bit of sour from the tomato that make me eager for the following main dish. Cozze Saltate (mussel) It fulls of garlic flavour and made me want some bread to dip into the source. Fusilli alla Genovese (Pesto pasta) Plenty amount of pasta that cooked to the soft side (personally prefer hard in the middle) but the flavor is nice and can taste herbs and the creamy. Pizza mafia (pepperoni pizza) Generous amount of cheese on it that cheese lovers would like definitely. The pizza is thicker than the Italian pizza I used to, thus it's easier to get stuffed. Btw more cheese can be asked when the dish is served.

Avoid if you have any disability Despite accepting a booking clearly stating that an assistance dog would be in attendance we were turned away at the door We were informed that the owners did not permit any form of assistance dog in their restaurant whether with a blind person or otherwise and that obviously they were above the law. We can only hope the cavalier attitude does not apply as well to hygiene , health and safety regulations

Awful food. Genuinely the rudest most ignorant manager I've ever come across. First time I've ever had to send two mains back for being utterly disgusting. I will say I've eaten at Sergio's several times previously years ago and loved the food. This time has been a terrible experience. Starting with the seafood pasta, it was bitty, sandy and actually tasted off it was awful. I hoped it was only a couple of pieces of seafood but it was every single one I tried so it was sent back, asking for a pizza instead. The pizza came but unfortunately that was also inedible. The plate was nothing but cheese and oil, and after trying a slice I felt sick. I also asked to send this back not wanting any more food at which point the manager came over. When explaining the issue and scraping the cheese off to demonstrate how thick it was the manager stood there silent, and after a long pause which made the whole table uncomfortable he said no comment and took the plate. He returned with the bill and said I dare not make anything that would disappoint you again so here's the bill, with the sevice charge, pizza and pasta removed. The table next next to us was also mortified. The waiters were all fantastic however. They said the pasta consistently got a lot of complaints, the manager is always unpleasant, and not to apologise for sending back food they agreed was abysmal just from looking at it.

We booked a table well in advance for our 34 wedding anniversary we travelled from Sheffield to selabrate in Chester when we arrived 10 minutes prior we were left waiting in the door way the lady in charge told us don't worry you have booked so you are to be seated next but she also told the man who appeared to be in charge we were next but he then seated two other parties ahead of us leaving us standing there in the doorway we were disgusted and feel the service was disgraceful we were ignored so we left thank you very much for spoiling our anniversary and we will never return again so be aware and avoid this place as booking means nothing

A real authentic Italian restaurant with great service and beautiful food. My wife has told them it was my birthday when she booked and they made a little extra special for us.

After reading positive reviews was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I know it is a bank holiday and allowances are made. However service was terrible!! Food was very disappointing. We both had a horrible after taste after we finished meal. I had a prawn starter which was awful only tasted of balsamic viniger that was drizzled over the non tasting prawns. My husbands starter of ribs was no better. We both had pasta dishes which was very poor. We dine out several times a week at many restaurants this has to be one of the worst.

Made a phone call to the restaurant this Saturday night Chester very busy, gentleman on the phone said just come down party of 5 and we did ,well what a great experience food 5 stars hospitality 5 stars a little hidden gem ,you will not be disappointed thank you fir a great end to the evening

Very enjoyable and reasonably priced lunch

No friendly welcome, in-fact rude. I had to tell the man at the bar we had a booking but he wasn’t interested. Service okay, food mixed. My fish dish was good, salmon cooked well but haddock slightly over cooked. My husband’s lasagne was good. Garlic bread was stale and appeared bought in. Seasonal vegetables (broccoli, carrots and potatoes) boring and I suppose accurate as seasonal all year round! Rosé wine bitter and unpleasant. Wouldn’t return.

Sergio's well well recommended to us and we'll deserved. We weren't told about the generous sized portions, so I had no room to sample the tiramasu. We were in the right seats to see the pizza bases been spun.

Greeted with nothing more than a grunt on arrival with person asking “reservation?” And “name?” Food was nice but wrong items sent. Tried several times to get waiter’s attention to get more drinks but no luck. Not even that busy as quite a few empty tables. Tables far to close together and atmosphere was awful. Used to be lovely but obviously something has changed for the worst. New management maybe? Not recommending anyone to visit - plenty of other nice restaurants in the city.

We'd booked a table in advance so were a little nervous to be greeted with a queue of people on arrival and a 15 min wait for a table, especially with one of our party being a bit hangry after a long day out. 😬However, the manager was jovial and welcoming, explaining to us that his computer system was down and he was short staffed due to illness. Although the drinks were slow to arrive, the food was incredibly quick and the staff were doing an amazing job trying to juggle everything and keep up. The food was delicious, great value and the atmosphere was vibrant & authentic. A far better experience than the Italian chains and somewhere we'll definitely visit again.

Lively Italian. Good selection of pizza and pasta. Also a reasonable selection of wines. This was my second time there and I recommend reserving a table. There were four of us without a reservation, but we were lucky to get a table after about 15 minutes. Very friendly service.

Everything about this place is wonderful - the food, the ambience and the owner. Do not change or refurbish anything! I've not been to any other Italian restaurants in Chester yet, but this place has set the bar incredibly high.

Family-owned Italian restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the veggie calzone, and pepperoni pizza. Best Italian we’ve ever had. You can really tell the family takes pride in their food. The restaurant was beautiful. Would recommend it to all. Great prices. Staff were friendly and received food in a reasonable time.

I've been there for 3 times and this weekend was the most horrible experience in a restaurant I had in UK. The door man was extremely rude. We asked a table for 3 and in the most rude way he just answer no. No option to book for later or wait (as we did the last 3 times). Totally agree that busy time can be stressful for restaurant staff but this definitely isn't a good way to treat your customer (who'll spend his hard earned money at your business). Don't know why but looks like he doesn't want us there. Very sad for a restaurant with such good food.

Expectations were quite high, firstly the juices were either out of date or just really bad (carbonated and sour) and then the pizzas... average at best, to much cheese on it etc. Dishes at other tables(pasta with shrimps) looked great.
