We came here for my Birthday. My Dad recommended as he had been before and was keen to return but I hadn't heard about it until he told me. What immediately struck me was how friendly and attentive the Waiters and Waitresses are. I felt very welcome. I ordered a chicken dish, which was delicious. My 12 year old son's meal arrived. We were told his particular meal came with potatoes and vegetables and he had said that was fine. I cringed when I saw that the vegetables included plenty of Brocoli. He really hates Brocoli. I told him to try a bit if he could and leave it if he wanted. He tried a bit. We carried on chatting. Next thing I knew, he'd eaten the lot. Not a scrap left. He said it was very tasty. I've been trying to get him to eat Brocoli for about 10 years! What did you do to it? I finished my meal off with a lovely homemade ice cream and also a little surprise because even though I had tried to keep it quiet that it was my birthday, it somehow got out! The nice thought was much appreciated. So, in a nutshell... Beautiful food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Plus, my child ate Brocoli?!?! Thank you.

Went for a family occasion with such high hopes of this restaurant. The house red wine was excellent. The bruschetta starter was also very good. Unfortunately it then went downhill. The pasta dishes were watery and lacking in flavour. The parmigiana, again was too watery and flavourless and obvious the aubergines had not been prepared properly. The sea bass was dry and very small fillets. The rosemary roast potatoes were the best part of the meal. The waiter, although pleasant, needs guidance in service. Please don’t reach over peoples meals to serve the next person, move round. Whilst eating, it’s not nice to reach over and remove glasses. If a glass is half full, don’t grab it whilst saying “you finished with that?” Please note this restaurant is CASH ONLY. Also, please check your bill, as we were overcharged for a couple of items. Will not be returning.

I came here in a party of six. We all had a starter, main and desert. I had the bruschetta as a starter, it was incredible! I had a cheese and tomato pizza for the main course, it was nice but had a few too many herbs for my liking. I had the tiramisu for desert which was nice too. 5 of the party ordered the restaurant's homemade gelato, which when we went was hazelnut, however they ran out, as they only had enough for 4 people. In one way that was good though, because it shows it's fresh, and also popular! The service was good, and each course came in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant and toilet was very clean. Everyone in the party enjoyed it, and we all said we'd like to return.

Living half a mile away from Navarra Restaurant, I have driven by there hundreds of times, but never thought to eat there, until yesterday. Now I know what I have been missing. This restaurant is truly Italian. It is next door, and kin to, an Italian grocery store which caters for at the long established Italian community in this area. The ambience is pleasant, with well spaced tables, and Italian music playing softly. The food is delightful, well presented, delicious and generous in portions The puddings are huge, and easily big enough to share between two. Wine is reasonably priced, although there is a selection of more expensive wine if you feel like splashing out.On the negative side, be aware that credit and debit cards are not accepted. It is strictly cash only, which could be something of an embarrassment if you were not aware. There is no car park, but unrestricted street parking is easily found, and bus stops for the 43 circular route from the city centre are immediately outside the restaurant. This is a lovely little restaurant, with good service, and truly authentic Italian dishes. I shall be visiting again in the near future

I last reviewed the Navarra in 2013 in glowing terms, and since then it has become our "special" place, the first choice for birthdays and anniversaries. We were looking forward to trying it again now it has been extended and refurbished, but were very disappointed. The food is still EXCELLENT but you can't relax and enjoy it. We barely had chance to open the new menu before the waiter arrived to take our order. We asked for more time, but a couple of minutes later he was back. I said we weren't ready to order and he replied, "What? Not even starters?" He returned yet again before we were ready to order. We were eating early and only three tables were occupied so we couldn't see what the hurry was. We usually like to see the specials board but there wasn't one, and we didn't learn till afterwards that there was a printed specials menu that we were not given. Once the food arrived, the pressure didn't let up. I object to staff trying to clear my plate before I've finished eating! This didn't just happen once, but FOUR times, twice with the starter and twice with the main. This is totally unacceptable and we didn't order dessert because we felt so unwelcome. At one time you could linger and enjoy your meal, but not now. Coupled with the loud music, this is not the restful venue we knew and loved. Sadly, we will now have to find a new "favourite" place. They were in a hurry to get rid of us, so we are in no hurry to go back.

This place is great, it's doubled in size and the food is excellent authentic cuisine. But for the love of god we are in 2016, I can go to the shop and buy a pint of milk on my card, I certainly expect to go out for a meal and pay by card. Please please please get with the programme and invest in a card machine. It was a freezing night and my partner had to walk to the machine and draw cash out. This must be a conversation the staff have daily with customers. You need to invest in a machine as you have in doubling your restaurant size.

If you live in Bakersfield, Sneinton, Carlton, Netherfield, Mapperley or Colwick, & you enjoy s freshly cooked Italian meal, if you haven't paid Navara a visit then you should.....but not yet.You see, when we last visited there in June the restaurant was a slightly understated extension of a long standing Italian food store next door. So, while the food was absolutely 'bellissimo' and the staff friendly, helpful and efficient, the relatively small venue was quickly filled and with its tiled flooring and chattering diners, it could become quite noisy. All that's set to change though as the food store had closed and, as I write, the restaurant is taking over the entire double fronted-plus premises. It's in the final stages of a major transformation but will re-open still under the same family management team who made Nottingham their home a few decades ago.So, look out in the Nottingham Post for the re-opening and pay this lovely now not-so-little Italian a visit. There's a strong range of starters. mains and desserts and, of course, complementary wine selection.Everything is reasonably priced ( not to be confused with cheap ) especially considering the standard of cooking and the quality of the service. If they can hold onto all that's great and add to it a slightly more sound defusing decor then what an even more brilliant little out of town eating place this will become. You can get to it from the City on a 43 bus (bus stops just across the road) and if you are coming by car, although there's no dedicated parking, there are very few restrictions on the roads nearby.Remember though, it's not open st the moment (September 13).

The salads, cooked meats and garlic bread to start with were all extremely generous and we shared them between us. Followed by saltinbocca for some, breaded chicken for others and spaghetti marinara for myself. All excellent, my seafood was just perfect. We barely had room for desserts but somehow managed - amazing meringues. Even with plenty of wine and coffees the bill was very reasonable. Lovely place.

When visiting this little gem a few years ago I said that I would like to have my 60th birthday party there this resulted in 18 of us having a superb night and excellent meal. Because this is a small family run venue we were asked to condense their menu somewhat and choose 3 items from each course to assist the staff. My guests and I chose our prefered meals well in advance so the only thing to do on the night was tell the two young ladies two looked after us so efficently how a few of us wanted the seaks cooking. It is a good idea to take a copy of guests prefered selections because you can bet that some of them will have forgotten. The starters were delightful and huge and the veg with my medaglioni alla creme was cooked to perfection. The chef had made amerato and raspberry ice cream which was delicious. Somebody said that the tiramasu was the best that they had ever tasted. Everything was washed down with copious amounts of Orvietto and merlot and the odd Jamesons and a good night was had by all. Staff had allowed my daughter in law in during the late afternoon to festoon the table with birthday goodies and she was pleased as to how elpful they were. If you want to celebrate something special with members of your family and freinds I would reccomend the Navarra without doubt, but be prepared to help the staff yourselves by knowing who wants what and roughly how much their meals cost at the end of the night it all saves time and cuts out the last minute scramble to work out how much everybody needs to pay.Thankyou to the staff on the night.

We live very close to this neighbourhood Italian, but for some reason we have never been there so we decided to give it a go having seen the generally positive feedback on TA.We booked in advance for a Thursday evening just to be on the safe side, but as it turns out the place was less than half full anyway. The decor is certainly a little basic, but it looks clean enough and many neighbourhood Italian's are not noted for their comfortable surroundings, it was warm and well lit so that suited us.Having not been before it's always a bit odd not knowing the "form" so when we entered we stood by the door for a good few minutes before the waitress who was standing behind the bar, deemed to come and greet us.... We were shown to a nice table by the window and menus were strangely "dropped" in front of us with no explanation...We were just having a quick browse when she returned, pad in hand to take our order. I ordered. a bottle of vino and some mineral water and we asked for couple more minutes to browse the food. She was back with the drinks quick as a flash asking if we were ready to order again.....? We sent her away for a second time, but she was soon back so we ordered... My wife ordered stuffed mushrooms to start followed by lasagne clear as a bell to which the stern faced waitress said (in a very loud voice) "What was that.. Sea Bass"...,,, Err no... Repeat the whole thing again....I ordered mussels and chicken casa for my main. You couldn't help but get the impression that her mind was somewhere else..... it certainly wasn't on the job of serving customers that's for sure....!You sort of "tune in" after that kind of behaviour, and we noticed she was unacceptably loud (both vocally and physically), clattering everything down on the tables and talking in a voice that bordered on shouting.A couple next to us tried to order some ice cream and simply asked what kinds were available... "It's like Bailey's with chocolate bits in it" was the answer... they were not impressed! The food arrived and I have to say it was very, very good indeed.... Really nice mussels and my wife said her stuffed mushrooms were lovely.... My main course was chicken which was really good and very authentic Italian home style cooking... a lovely chicken breast in a tomato and mushroom sauce with sautéed potatoes. broccoli and carrots.... really very good indeed and a substantial plate full. Again my wife described her beef lasagne as "lovely" so full marks there. The bill (including a bottle of wine and sparking water) came to £44 which I thought was pretty good value for the standard of food on offer. Then came a complete shock that I'm surprised no one else has made an issue of here.... they don't take cards, not just credit cards, but any cards....! I think in this day and age a mid-market dining establishment like this should certainly be accepting card payments... I don't know what this says about the place, but I can't remember the last time we ate out and didn't pay by card. In my view not acceptable in 2016! By a pure fluke I had £45 on me in cash, so the £44 bill left a very miserly tip, but that was probably more than was deserved. At 9:20 p.m.we were the last customers in there, so it's clearly more of an early doors place, but I didn't appreciate having our paper napkins swiped away from under our noses and the table being half cleared whilst we were still finishing our drinks. All in all I would say the food was outstanding, the place is basic, but clean and warm, but the service was..... err .... a bit strange to say the least....Maybe she was having an off night, but as the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good first impression and on this performance that's was a clear fail. The cooking is worthy of a five star rating, but I had to mark them down for service that bordered on the downright rude, and not accepting universally acknowledged payment methods is just archaic. We'll certainly give it another go as the food was so good.... here's hoping for a bit more attentive service exte time!

We visited this restaurant before and had a lovely meal but wasn't a member of tripadvisor then so just wanted to point that out first as I know there are many people out there who do not write about good experiences but are are quick to write about bad ones so just wanted to get that out there first before my review.Tonight we ordered a take out which my fiance collected. It would of been nice to book a table but due to me having a bad back and in quite a bit of pain, I wouldn't of felt comfortable on this occasion and just wanted to stay at home.I ordered the tortellini and my partner the gnocchi. Mine was nice and tastey as I remembered it from the last time. My partner ordered the gnocchi and whilst it was nice, the portion was quite small. I asked him if it was like that when we visited last but he said no because the portion was very generous. I'm not a bit eater but I did notice that whilst my pasta filled the foil tray, his was only half full. His food was gone quickly and the next thing I knew, he was in the kitchen getting something else to eat as he wasn't satisfied. We ordered a garlic bread which was really nice and very well seasoned. Not sure what happened tonight maybe just a mistake but guys his food portion did look small to me and like I say, I'm not a big eater. Maybe it was just an off night or an oversight (or undersight) whilst cooking. It wouldn't put me off visiting again as the food is really lovely but maybe today, it just wasnt' our day.Thank you anyway guys

After a terrible drive home from work Thursday 14th May, we decided to go to our 'little bit of Italy' for an impromptu meal! So glad we did! The restaurant only had two diners when we got there, but the warm welcome from Gina, who remembers all her regulars, made up for the lack of people. Attentive without being intrusive she took our drinks and meal orders and made recommendations. We chose the stuffed mushrooms to start with and they were excellent, full of flavour and almost a meal in themselves. We had two different pasta dishes for the main course and both were excellent with plenty of pasta, sauce, and ingredients. We also had a nice bottle or Orvieto wine. We were not going to have a sweet, but Gina read them out and we decided to have the homemade ice cream. Not just any ice cream, but the Raspberry and Ameretti ice cream which was to die for. We left around 9pm having had a great evening and would recommend the restaurant to everyone.

I am 100% Italian, to find a good and authentic restaurant in Nottingham/UK it's nearly impossible but because of all the great review I thought to try.I wish I never did..regretting for have spent £40 for 2 starters and 2 Pasta course that did't have nothing of Italian and that even with that were unbeatable. I couldn't believe this place had such good revious. I am still totally shocked and speechless.it was that bad that we couldn't finish to eat our pasta dishes and we didn't want even have a try with the dessert. We paid and runned away very disgusted. We visited on a Saturday night on a hen night , we arrived on time but there had been a mix up with booking so they expected us 30 mins before , we had pre ordered so couldn't see a problem , starters took about 30 mins but was delicious , (stuffed mushrooms) before we had all finished plates were being removed wich I felt a little rude , mains were then brought out straight away , so although all meals were lovely I felt very rushed wich was a shame as the quality of the food was lovely .

I love this little restaurant. I moved into the area about 2 years ago and my partner and I have been frequenting here ever since. Gina is fab and friendly - she remembers us every time! I love going to the little shop next door during the day for groceries. The prices are incredibly decent for the authentic Italian food they serve.I'd book early for larger groups as it's quite a small restaurant and they do book up quick!

We have just had the most authentic Italian meal and service available .. Other fan being in Italy itself you can beat this for excellent food and service.. My wife had the mushrooms to start and they were 10/10.. Really really good ... I had mussels in tomatoes .. Again superb.. Followed by Pizza for me very original and nothing like a high street branded pizza shop! My wife had an amazing pork medallions dish in mustard, potatoes and vegetables.. Great portions. Great warmth and service.. I've been to lots of restaurants...! this one is good...

I booked this restaurant as a family meal for Friday night but in the end couldn't make it. Unfortunately I did forget to cancel, my mum has recently had an operation and thought she would be okay but turned out didn't feel comfortable going out yet. We booked for 7.45 after being told we couldnt go at 8. At around 8.10 I got a phone call from an unknown number and answered to be greeted with 'it's Navarra, you had a table booked at 7.45.... Erm... What happened?!!' This was rude itself, so I apologised a few times I had forgotten to call being busy with my mum, but she continued to shout at me down the phone telling me how she 'should have known she's been turned away customers all night and we didn't turn up for the reservation'. Admittedly I forgot to cancel, but for a good reason and I certainly didn't need her rude and arrogant attitude ringing me after to shout at me. Will never go there to eat now.

Without doubt one of the best restaurants in Nottingham. The food is all freshly prepared to a very high standard, service is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I could not find a fault with this place and would recommend it to anyone. Very impressed.

Now I would love to keep this restaurant to myself as a personal oasis but I can't. We have just visited for the first time to celebrate my daughters 4th birthday, the food was fantastic, beautifully home made food, I assume cooked fresh to order as this is what everyone that recommended it to me stated!. Then you meet Gina!. Wow she made my daughter feel so special (well it was her birthday). She was really attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Now its not a big place but to me that is one of the attractions, like I said at the beginning I would rather no one else knew about this place so that we can always get a table, but if you like Italian food and you want a light, incredibly clean place in which to eat it then look no further and as for Gina I have only known her for 3 hours but left feeling like she was my best friend. First class and I will most definitely be popping in again and again, oh go on then ... And again!.

We visited this evening after hearing good things about this resteraunt. On first impressions it just seemed a bit basic but we were told the food was amazing. Firstly the waitress was not very attentive and more bothered about seeing to what seemed her regular customers instead of ensuring ALL customers were accommodated and had full drinks. The place was not busy at all about 4 tables were fill in the whole place. We had a starter of stuffed mushrooms which was nice and hot on the outside but very cold on the inside and very bland, not even a hint of garlic could be tasted. The bread that accompanied the started however was beautiful soft and light. Next came the mains. My other half ordered the chicken special smothered in tomatoes and breadcrumbs again this was bland and the chicken was super tough as if re-cooked, the veg and potatoes that accompanied however were very tasty. I had the gnocchi which was oven cooked and hot (the good thing about it) the bad thing is that it was bland it had no taste at all. I was not offered cracked black pepper to grind on my meal nor any Parmesan to add to my meal (every Italian resteraunt I have been to offer this) also other diners were offered Parmesan and cracked pepper. So overall very sadly disappointed and will be trying other authentic Italians in the future.

There's a buzz about this restaurant, typical of a Mediterranean neighbourhood bar, so if you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal this might not be your best choice. But if you want excellent food, fantastic service and a lively, vibrant atmosphere you can't go wrong with Navarra! Portions are large, but the puddings are so good that we just had to go for three courses. Starters and mains were cooked to perfection and served piping hot and the Baileys and chocolate ice cream was divine. Prices are not budget blowing but it's worth remembering that payment is cash only. We will be back & wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Went as it'd been recommended by someone. Atmosphere friendly. Prices reasonable and worth a visit. Only drawback was it was cash only so had to nip out for cash back across the road hut it was overall very good value for money. Must admit the portions were way too huge for me buy if I hadn't eaten all day I'd have been fine.

We have eaten here twice recently. Once in early December, when things were very quiet, and again last night (valentines day), when it was extremely busy. On both occasions the food has been superb, and the warm friendly service cannot be faulted. This is a wonderful local restaurant that is also easily accessible, with none of the city centre parking nightmares that make us avoid central Nottingham.

I thought a recent review of this restaurant giving it only 1 star a little unfair. However having returned there since that poor review and having previously had some good meals there I have to express my disappointment. Is the chef absent during the holiday period? Ordering the same meal as previously the steak came too heavily seasoned and whereas the vegetables before had been varied and excellent all I received was a few small roast potatoes and what looked and tasted like a portion of tinned peas and nothing else. If a restaurant can't achieve some sort of consistency it loses its customers. What are they doing at the Navarra?

About 20 of us went here for a friends birthday & I had heard great reviews about this place so was looking forward to it. Well where do I start there was one waitress that spoke, got asked what drink we want without being shown the drinks menu. Now the food....We had to pick what we wanted a week before totally understandable because of the large number of people, well out came the 'list' it looked like a little kid had written it, as soon as the starters came out it all started going wrong, we had a few of us out our seats trying to sort what was going where food coming and going! When I finally got my garlic pizza bread it was below average like something from tesco. Now the mains.....oh dear....the whole fiasco started again! Well me and my wife got ours but didn't know who's was who, so we asked the waitress which one had the meat in because my wife is a vegetarian and I can remember I ordered one with meat in, well what happened next shocked us and the whole table! 'Excuse me which one has the meat in?' 'Neither of them' she replied. Ah ok being already fed up of the service my wife picked the best looking one and tucked in, a second later she turns to me and tells me she's just put a piece of meat in her mouth after being told neither contain meat?!Very very unhappy we called the waitress over, after about 15 minutes of the whole table trying to explain to her what she had done I still don't think she got it!We did get an apology later on and her main took off the bill but we were still very upset. They also messed up one of our friends dinner giving him the wrong one then taking it away and bringing one back out when everyone else had finished! Can clearly say we will not be going back here again after being very disappointed with the whole experience.

The atmosphere is totally relaxed and the quality is consistently of the highest standard whether we've popped in for a plate of pasta or gone for the full monty. We've taken a number of our friends and they have raved about how good it is. Do yourselves a favour and give it a try you won't regret it.

This restaurant offers both the best Italian food I have ever tasted outside of Italy and such a wonderful and warm atmosphere. The waitress and Jack (the owner(his name is actually pronounced ja-shin-co)) were so kind to both me and my girlfriend, they only added to this wonderful culinary experience. So for starters I had mozzarella wrapped in parma ham with olive oil , rocket, black pepper and inside of the mozzarella wrapped parma ham was another delicious treat, although I am not sure what that was. My girlfriend went for the garlic pizza bread, both of our starters were delicious! For our mains my girlfriend had gnocchi with pesto; the pesto tasted as good as that as we had, had among the restaurants in Rome and Florence. I had pork fillets which inside were full of Italian meats and cheeses, it came with seasoned vegetables and what I can only describe as Italian roast potatoes; it was the perfect winter dish! Now for dessert, I actually do not like meringues and it was my girlfriend who decided which dessert we would have to share and my golly gosh I was so happy that she choose the meringues. They were freshly made chewy hazelnut meringues with pistachios , whipped cream and fresh strawberries, it was divine! We really wanted another portion but unfortunately they had sold out :(. All in all including drinks this meal cost us £35.00 which is an amazing price for the quality and portion size of the food! And to add to this the restaurant is spotless, it is one of the cleanest restaurants I have ever been in ! It is a hidden gem within Nottingham and it is well worth a visit! This is my first review on trip adviser , but people need to know about this restaurant!

We have heard nothing but good things about Navarra and have been meaning to try it for ages. We booked to celebrate our anniversary, and were so impressed that we promptly booked again for my birthday so we could try more dishes from the tempting menu. Delicious food and a great atmosphere. So much Italian was being spoken at the other tables that it felt like being in Italy, which speaks volumes for the authenticity of the food.

We often eat at Navarra, which is a small, cosy, friendly local Italian restaurant. The menu offers a good selection of chicken, steak, fish and pasta dishes and there are always options from the specials board. We use the fantastic rustic deli next door every week and have been to the restaurant next door plenty of times and have never been disappointed. The value is incredible, very reasonably priced dishes and large portions. The quality of food is fantastic, great pastas and meat dishes, authentically Italian. Although very rustic this only adds to the charm. It is a real gem of a place. We eat at Navarra's regularly but it was after experiencing a different restaurant last night that I feel compelled to write a recommendation regarding how special this place is. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere is always welcoming and we have never had a bad meal there (and we do eat there a lot!!!) One thing we take for granted (until our experience last night) is how exceptionally clean the restaurant is, so clean that we never think about it. Gina is a fantastic hostess and waitress, accommodating of the customers and nothing is too much trouble. Tony is an exceptional chef with fresh ideas regularly on the notice board which are always delicious. We have taken many friends there, always confident that they will enjoy the freshly cooked wholesome meal. The portions are generous and good value for money. I always take it as a good sign when I see Italian people eating there which they frequently do. This family owned business is a well kept secret which more people need to try.

Visited this restaurant after a recommendation. What a gem didn't even know this place existed!!! Great home cooked Italian food. Very decent sized portions - will probably share starter next time. The pan fried sea bass with lentils was amazing but the star was the hazelnut and pistachio nut meringues! Will be returning soon and will pop into the deli that's next door. After using the excellent Italian supermarket next door I just had to try the restaurant. The food is sublime and excellently cooked. I had a dish of prawns, clams and mussells in a tomato sauce which was on the specials board for my starter and the flavours were spot on. I was troubled in deciding which main course to have because everything sounded delicious on the menu and specials board. What I would reccomend though was the Involtini which is pan fried pork fillet wrapped with Italian spiced salami and mozerella. You just know that everything is going to be good because of the fresh produce which is sold in the supermarket. The wine is also reasonably priced. There is only one draw back and that is that it's a £12 taxi fare there and back, if it was nearer I'd be going at least once a month. As it is those special occasions will be even more special.

So, the drinks were nice, my friends got shisha, I didn't and they said it's nice as well. However, why the one star? Because if you enter this you are greeted with not only very rude people, but they take your ID and photograph it on the laptop. I get that they serve alcohol and they need to check for ID, check, but don't take a photo of it! This has always been a concern for me and my friends. So, my genuine advice for Hukka lounge: just do some training for your staff to be less rude and more professional, and make sure whoever is at the door to only check and not to take a photo of any IDs. Otherwise the place is good. Thanks
