Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. My partner and I decided to try this place after it being recommended to us. There is no menu available on the outside of the building down the stairs, so you can’t check out the prices / end before going up. When we went up, a very abrupt waitress was waiting at the top and just asked “how many” no hello or welcome, and took us to a table by the window. The window place is full of fake plants and other bits covered in dust and cobwebs, so hadn’t been cleaned in a while which was a bit off putting for a place serving food. The room is extremely small and because of the layout you feel like you’re on top of each other. It’s also dog friendly. I like dogs but not in such a small cramped place. A family came in with a big dog that stank and was breathing really heavily right next to our table it was absolutely disgusting when you’re trying to eat. The food was extremely expensive, it did look nice to be fair, and was well presented but it was £13 for eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked and it came with bacon not ham, fair enough but the bacon is extremely crispy like pork scratchings, I tried to put my fork through it and it flew off the plate. The toast is almost impossible to eat because it’s so crunchy too so it was all in all very hard to eat. When paying by card they only give you an option to add 10% tip minimum there is no option for 0 which is what we would have given had we not been scared of the abrupt waitresses reaction if we did that. Shame about this as we were looking forward to trying here, the waitress should be more polite and welcoming and friendly, after all it’s not a cheap place and they should be thanking people for choosing to spend their hard earned money at their business. Perhaps they don’t care if people return or not, but certainly won’t be after being treated how we were.

Step climb up the stairs - no chance to draw breath before waitress is barking at you asking “how many are you and follow her”. No pastries available as per menu and only two selection of dull looking cakes so decided to only have coffee. Same person who greeted us initially came to take our order. She was not happy because we decided not to have anything to eat. She was also abrupt to an American party of four near us because what they were trying to order food wise on the menu was also not available (they decided to order drinks only like us). On paying by card, she thought we should be leaving her a tip for her service to which we declined due to her whole manner and abruptness. The coffee itself was tasty and hot. Such a shame about the non-availability of certain items on the menu and the abrupt manner of the waitress/host. We noted that this cafe had received awards (see photo). Our experience would say the service etc has deteriorated since these were awarded.

We visited this morning for brunch, we went upstairs to order, drinks first, then went back up a while later to order breakfast, had to then reorder the drinks as they forgot to write them down… so this resulted in another delay, the drinks were then brought down, half the americano was split from the cup and all over the saucer, so it turned out to be half a cup, no apologies, just a the steps are steep comment.. which would have been fine if there was a acknowledgment for half a cup of coffee… they do have gluten free, which is one positive and as a celiac you have to be careful. Very slow service for quite early in the morning, staff aren’t friendly, had such high hopes with the great reviews, but what a disappointment. The food was decent, but sadly didn’t make up for the poor experience. There were a number of unhappy people there this morning. There are so many lovely independent cafes in Chester, we will go to an alternative next time.

Lovely quality food but a little too salty and quite expensive overall, also we had our drinks very quickly and had finished them well before our food arrived, I think customers should be given the option to wait. Appreciate the food is all freshly cooked hence the wait but given 2 breakfasts and drinks cost us over £40 complimentary drinks could be offered

Do not let that put you off! We will definitely be back!

What a fabulous find. Tucked away upstairs on The Rows in Chester, this is a little gem of a restaurant. Booking is advised as the covers are limited (and it’s getting very popular), principally because the food is really good. We had the loaded fries with jalapeños and the mozzarella melt croquettes (great lunchtime snacks) along with a glass of wine which was not the run of the mill stuff, but decent wine from smaller producers. The meal was wonderful and not a scrap was left by the end. If you’ve not tried this restaurant yet, you should.

The Naughty Badger is a hidden gem !! A cosy, tucked away quiet haven with a unique attractive look and feel where the food and drinks are as fab as the folk who run it . . it nestles above row level on Bridge Street, Chester, so, as a bonus, it has a great view of some of the city's remarkable architecture . .we had a lovel tasty and unhurried meal in luxurious warmth, while we watched shoppers scurrying thru the cold outside . . it really did set us up for the day !! so, a BIG THANKYOU to the folks at the Naughty Badger . . we'll see you again soon !!

We visited the Naughty Badger today as a group of 13, we were a bit nervous that we wouldn’t all fit but the staff were super accommodating and happy to have us fill the upstairs room. We were warned that food may take longer than normal as it was a larger group but everything came in really good time with barely any delay. Drinks were great, I can definitely vouch for the coffees, delicious. Food was fab too, we had a mix of veggies, vegans, allergy sufferers and meat eaters and everyone was able to be accommodated and we were all really impressed with our meals. All in all, we loved the naughty badger and will definitely be back! Thanks!!

Myself, husband and daughter came here for lunch on Saturday, I seen previous good reviews about this place and had to visit. I ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich, the roast chicken was lovely and tender, bacon crispy and fresh (my request for well done bacon), gorgeous garlic and rosemary focaccia. Best sandwich ever! With a side of fries. My daughter wanted beans and sausages, (we missed the breakfast) but they were flexible and suggested food ideas for my 5 year old. She loved the sausages! Good quality food all round. The menu had great food options and wine list. The staff were lovely and welcoming, they also kept my daughter entertained to help find the badgers which she loved. Overall gorgeous bistro definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. We will see you soon. Thank you.

Friendly local bar serving fine wine local beers, ciders and ales and guest beers and ales from around the U.K. excellent gin selection and Whiskeys too. Quiz night on Tuesday! Great for meeting friends and used often by cycling groups as they pass through! Opened in July/August 2022 and has served the community well. Dog friendly and children too. Recent addition is some Cheshire farm ice cream which is a favourite for the children during the hot weather. Well worth popping in for a pint of three and for the wine drinkers there is a good selection of fine wines.
