Native in Sheffield

We ate dinner here and it was amazing. The waiter was brilliant and recommended scallops to start which were incredible. He then suggested the monk fish that was also superb. Definitely worth a visit.

Our second visit and it was even better than the first! Fabulous selection of fish & seafood dishes. The oysters were wonderful, yet again. The King prawns in chilli oil are to die for, only bettered by the focaccia to mop up the leftovers!! Staff are great, young, enthusiastic and very friendly. Native is most definitely our new favourite restaurant! Been coming here for a good few years now, and its had a major make over and expansion which is really good. The food was the best we’ve had, absolutely amazing! Well done everyone!! (You might need some more staff on a Sunday!) Try it! It’s mega!!

Rob was brilliant and recommended the eel starter which was the real deal. Overall experience was excellent and would recommend to anyone who lives in Sheffield or is just here for a short time.

Delicious food, really competitively prices for food and drinks - £30 for a bottle of Prosecco is amazing. Great attentive service. Oysters and lobster incredible, best octopus we’ve ever had. Hidden gem that should be much bigger on the Sheffield food scene. We will be back.

We have been to Native before and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the latest experience was really disappointing. Our table of 5 were given a table in the basement. It was dreadful down there. Absolutely no atmosphere and appalling decor. It was cold with a horrid bright light over our heads. . No full time waiter looking after the tables so we had to wait for them to appear from upstairs. The food on previous occasions was delicious. Unfortunately this was completely average. Bottle of wine just plonked on the table. We had booked the table a month in advance and at no point were told we would be seated in the basement. The booking relayed the information that the meal was to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. If we had been told that we would be in the basement we wouldn’t have gone. I told the manager of our disappointment. He told me they were not going to be using the basement in the future because they were taking the shop next door. Frankly they shouldn’t be taking so many bookings that they put people down there. For the prices charged it is totally unacceptable. . Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

Popped in for lunch on Saturday. Wasn’t particularly busy, so we got the full attention of the host. Pleasant industrial chic space with nice diffused light and thematic furniture. The food was excellent - fresh quality fish, good menu and great cookery. Short but well chosen wine list, excellent house beer and well made cocktails. The stars of the show were inevitably the oysters and the excellent service from Rob.

Seafood was really fresh and sweet. I'll knock down quarter of a star (so not really) because they served some crab meat thing on the seafood platter which, given everything else we had, did not look very appetising (I would have preferred whole crab legs). We also got more oysters, the lettuce, and grilled prawns and we're stuffed by the end. Service was very friendly and not overbearing. We sat downstairs and they came and checked on us right number of times. The layout of the downstairs area ("the glory hole 😂") was a little odd? I heard way more details from neighbouring conversations than I cared for probably due to the acoustics of the room. Otherwise a wonderful experience.

From the service to the food par excellence!! Ambience was great. The background music and all importantly ingredient was a well selected playlist.. Simply a fish lovers paradise. A big thank you to the young man a woman that looked after us as nothing was too much trouble for them to make our night most memorable. We’ll be back!!

Booked table for 2 couple weeks ago . Seafood platter a disaster. Half lobster, frozen prawns..... began cleaning while we were still eating. What a waste of £103 .Avoid !

We had our anniversary dinner here and it was fantastic. The food was beautiful, loads of interesting choices on the menu and a shout out to our server Aiden who was perfect all night.

He comido en la pescadería de JH Mann en Sharrowvale, pero no sabía que tenían un restaurante, ¡así que esta fue una noticia fabulosa! Mi hermana vino para quedarse y solo come en lugares fantásticos, así que no tuvo problemas para elegir nativo. Tuvimos un maravilloso viernes por la noche de tres platos, un gran servicio, un restaurante precioso, excelente ambiente y comida exquisita. No dudaría en recomendar Native como un restaurante de corte superior para una noche especial. Tomamos el pan In-house con aceite de langosta y balsámico de algas mientras leíamos el menú y la tabla de especiales, luego elegí las vieiras para comenzar y el pastel de pescado con samphire y brócoli para seguir. Tomamos una hermosa botella de vino y luego un afogato. Toda la comida estaba completamente impecable, muy bien cocinado y perfecto para probar. Honestamente fue una de las mejores, probablemente la mejor comida que he comido en mucho tiempo y he estado en Roma, Florencia y Venecia este año. ¡Llévate a Native, te lo mereces!

He visitado Native un par de veces y lo disfruté mucho, probablemente diría que ha sido mi restaurante favorito de Sheffield. Visité con algunos amigos en esta ocasión y aunque todavía era una muy buena experiencia había un par de cosas que sentían que se estaban resbalando. Para un sábado temprano por la noche parecía haber un montón de cosas no disponibles, tanto en el menú, pero también en términos de bebidas que era un poco extraño y decepcionante. Hemos tenido el tablero de compartir charcutería en cada visita y realmente disfrutamos, pero nos hemos dado cuenta de que parece ser cada vez más pequeño. Las mesas tienen un tiempo limitado cuando debido a que el restaurante está ocupado, pero se podría comunicar mejor para que no se sienta muy apresurado e incómodo. También pensamos que los vasos pequeños de ikea para el agua eran un poco extraños para una experiencia por lo demás bastante premium!

Absolutely awesome! Somehow I didn't know this place existed but after my first visit it is straight into my best restaurant in Sheffield category. Delicious, fresh and interesting food, served in a relaxed and lovely atmosphere. Rob the waiter was exceptional too. Genuine 10/10 experience. So much so I am heading straight back again tomorrow to sample some more of their delights!

I brought my dad here for his birthday as he is a huge fan of seafood, and this restaurant has an excellent reputation. That reputation is well deserved! The staff immediately made the time fun with recommendations and information about the fish and dishes being served, as well as some jokes. My dad and I had the seafood platter, which is a huge amount of fancy shellfish along with fresh bread and dips. It was amazing if you are keen on shellfish, but even if you're not there are other great options. My mum had the fish and chips, which was enormous - but she ate the whole thing and gave compliments on how light and tasty it seemed, not stodgy like batter often is at other places. I also got a dark and stormy - my favourite cocktail, and hard to find in Sheffield!

I have been here tiwce. A very "native" restaurant. The lobster is excellent. The Bream is fresh and perfect with the charred Hispi cabbage recommended by the staff. The Korean style oyster also have a unique flavour. The staffs are very nice. Overall a great experience.

Booked for late lunch one Sunday not knowing anything about native as new to Sheffield. Warmly greeted by Eve who looked after us so well during our meal. Starters of Scallops and Crab were both amazing but the stand out part of the meal for me was the Lobster Thermidor - OMG it was really out of this world. The best I have ever had. Native you really are a great restaurant and we will be back soon.

I came for lunch earlier today with my family. My mum cooks professionally and the rest of the family are keen with food and love fish. And indeed we loved Native. I would recommend the sharing platters, 2 platters served 5 of us as a great starter. Each component was remarkable for the texture and the depth of flavour. There are a range of price points if you're looking for a lighter meal at lunch time, and the prices were overall very acceptable. I say this as the quality and food experience contends with some of the best restaurants I've been to. Next, the young man who served us was passionate and attentive. At the same time he gave us the perfect amount of space in the quieter hours. We felt at home from the moment we came in, and I hope to come again. Finally, the music was spot on the whole time, it was appreciated by all generations which isn't always easy.

I have very mixed feeling about Native. I quite like its style; the decor, the music. It is cosy and pretty. The staff is welcoming and pleasant BUT, my heckles rose upon entering when I received the ever-increasing 'HIGH GUUUUUYYYYYYS'. Ugh. When I go out to dine, I absolutely do not want to be addressed in this way. I get dressed up to dine out, and I feel that this salutation is far too casual for an establishment such as this. One of the main reasons that I choose to dine out is for the service (I can cook quite well but just want to go out for a treat from time to time). I found that the food was very good here, but little things let it down which should not be the case in more expensive restaurants. The scratches on the colour-tinted glassware; discrepancies in the odd dish on the menu (without prior notification), the leaving of empty glasses on the table throughout the meal, the bringing of the next course before the previous plates had been cleared away. These things matter when one is paying a premium. The toilets were awful; broken toilet seat, urine on the seat without any disinfectant being left for customers to wipe it down before use. (Not sure if this is because they seem to be unisex toilets - whatever - they were clearly not being monitored). I wouldn't call it a 'bad' experience, by any means but the service simply does not match the price. It takes no extra effort to say 'Sir and Madam' rather than 'guuuyyyss', yet it makes a world of difference to the customer's dining experience. I find that Sheffield hospitality is so desperately lacking in customer service. Perhaps most people like the more casual approach, but I certainly don't, and it simply makes me increasingly reluctant to dress up and dine out. I had pinned my hopes on this being the place where this might happen but, sadly, it did not.

Ive always resisted eating in fish restaurants but not anymore. This place is amazing. Food is superb and service is exceptional.

The restaurant is located a little bit outside the centre, which made for an interesting walk across Sheffield’s impressive collection of roadworks. It is a specialised seafood restaurant with a nice interior which has lots of character and a good atmosphere. I had lobster thermidor with chips and my partner had a whole plaice dish. The fish is available to view in cool cabinets before ordering. Both dishes were excellent as was the service.

Outstanding seafood and a great selection cooked to perfection. We had chili squid, halibut and sea bream. Top notch place if you want something that's above the usual standard of food in Sheffield.

Rob was the best waiter I’ve ever experienced… to say he knew the menus well was an understatement. The people skills, descriptive, attentive, charming. I was say a good waiter is one that knows what you want before you know what you want. Hats off to the chefs for the delicious dedication to the food! Top stuff.

I’ve been a few times. I’ve taken my parents for Mother’s Day twice and been with my partner a few times and these guys never miss! The food is always amazing and the service is always immaculate. Even for vegetarians they’ll do something that is always incredible. I literally cannot fault the place!

Got a Too Good To Go from this place for 4pm-5pm on a Sunday, and it clearly shows that it opens till 5pm/5.30pm on Sundays, but when I arrived the place was closed. Only person there was another TGTGer that laughed and explained to me how to get a refund. Disappointing

Almost panic stricken as there were so many delicious choices off the main and specials menu - after much dithering we more or less chose across both menus. Clean plates all round was the proof needed that indeed the food was amazing!

Came here with my girlfriend last night to celebrate our valentine's and we both left very happy with our experience the staff were really friendly the place itself is nice and warm feeling but the real show pony is the food. you can tell as soon as you taste your meal that the people behind this are professionals and clearly have a passion for seafood everything was bang on, this is the best fish/shellfish I've ever eaten in the uk and I've payed more for less quality wise in the past. Very impressed and satisfied with this place and we will definitely return it was a great way to celebrate our valentine's and may well become the place we come every time for it now.

The laying is great. Informal but smart looking. The kitchen is open to see as is all the sea food off you want to see how fresh out is. Great choice of food beers and wine. All compliment lovely food. We had fresh oysters, cured trout hale and cod. Obviously this all means nothing of you don’t like fish but if you do. Go.

A great environment, very cool and understated interior. The food was fresh and tasty, only reason I did not give it 5 are the prices - it feels a bit expensive for Sheffield, and a great lack of non-alcholic drinks. In this day and age there is no excuse for a 90% + alcohol offering, the lack of decent non-alcohol drinks will probably stop me going back for now.

Superb! Our second visit and we had a lovely time. The oysters, olives and bread were very tasty and the fish platter was great, with 4 good portions of fresh fish and mussels. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. Highly recommended.

I visited Native with a small group of friends for lunch but it was so lovely we spent the whole afternoon there! Everything was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the lovely lady who took care of us. I shared one of the seafood platters as a starter and followed with the bream, finishing off with affogato. All absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Other touches such as the traditional fish cutlery and mismatched vintage crockery added to the charm. If you like fish and seafood, you'll love Native.

When we arrived we were sat at a very cold window table and then left for a good amount of time until someone came and gave us a menu to look at. The chef was talking and swearing quite loudly and it made the atmosphere rather appalling. Food was mediocre and service slow very disappointing from reading so many good reviews before coming. Please be aware that in an obvious open kitchen we can hear you. Would not recommend.

Popped in for lunch, between two of us we shares a few things. Scallops - outstanding! Crab arancini - delicious. Charred hispi cabbage with anchovies - smokey, buttery, salty. And the okonomiyaki fries - perfect chips (with all the crunchy bits but soft and fluffy and salty) with the tasty saucy and bonito flake topping. A bit special. It was a lovely lunch. Truly perfectly cooked scallops. Loved it.

My favourite restaurant in Sheffield. Visit as often as possible, and have had a variety of meals, all of which have been amazing. One of the best seafood restaurants I've been too and a unique restaurant in the Sheffield food scene Have brought friends and family here, and each of them have loved the food and experience too.

Wonderful food accompanied by friendly and warm service. Accommodated for a shellfish allergy, and were very flexible on how the kitchen could substitute. It was super appreciated, and we'll definitely return.

Today I picked up three Sunday dinners. This chef knows his stuff. The pork and crispy crackling with all the trimmings was lovely. Surprised this isn’t a Michelin star ⭐️

Went for a romantic night out with my partner. We had Bread and olives to start. then the scallops and my partner had the cured salmon starter. We shared the starters. My wife had never likes scallops in the past. But was blow. Away by how tasty these were. I had the whole sea bass with Asian style fried. My wife had the crusted cod and side of greens. This was cooked to perfection and delicious. The service was all perfect. And if we weren’t so full we would have had some of those tasty looking desserts. Amazing place. Will be back.

Walked into a warm welcome. Staff was attentive. Menu specials board and menus a good range of choice. There’s fresh seafood in ice counter. I will be going back and I’d recommend this lovely seafood restaurant. Booked for Sunday lunch. 😊

It really is the best restaurant in Sheffield. If you love fresh fish and seafood there's really no other option. Great venue, excellent staff and top drawer food. What more can you ask for?

Had wanted to head into this place since its opening due to the smells as i walked past. Visited on a Friday night, full place - and it did not disappoint. Its cosy but feels private enough between tables. Attentive key staff who were very knowledgable upto-the-minute and enthusiastic - the food was freshly prepared within a few yards of where we sat, and over the three courses we had was absolutely, and truly delicious. I'm a big seafood fan, and could not compliment the prep, the presentation and the taste enough. The best Lobster I've ever had by a country mile (or is that a nautical mile?) and the crab and scallops were something to behold. Great drinks selection with staff having the ability to recommend drinks to compliment the palette for each food selection that we made (when we asked for this - it wasn't pushed). Couldn't recommend enough if you love properly made food with a welcome and calm atmosphere.

Fantastic selection of carefully selected fresh fish . Cooked perfectly and with plenty of imagination! The roast skate and beef ragout was a great autumn addition with sides of fresh broccolli and samphire. The wine menu was also carefully selected and extensive - with plenty to choose from Including a short order of delicious orange wines and a spectacular Riesling.. A big plus - really friendly and engaged kitchen to table service with a very knowledgable personable chef who actually seems to like talking to customers!

Absolutely amazing visit this afternoon. Oysters for starters and the hot fish platter for main. I cannot recommend Native enough the staff from when we walked through the door from leaving could not do enough. Big thankyou for a fantastic meal. We have already booked for next month. Sadly disappointing. The main problem was the terribly slow service. The four of us arrived at 5.15 for our 5.30pm booking and asked to sit outside to have a drink before taking our table inside. Drinks were served and menus provided. So far, so good. But then, nothing. No-one came to take our orders and so after about 30 minutes of becoming slowly frustrated we went back inside where another party of about 6 people had arrived. We were then given new menus (we'd left the original ones outside) but still our order wasn't taken. Then the table of 6 behind us had their order taken before us, despite having arrived a good 20 minutes after us. Inexcusable. Our order was eventually taken and our nibbles (not starters) arrived quite quickly, and were very tasty - but then again, nothing. We waited and waited, but nothing. Eventually we had to order more nibbles as were so hungry, whilst watching the table behind us tuck into their mains. Eventually our mains arrived - almost an hour and a half after we arrived!!! Unfortunately I have to say that we were then underwhelmed with the food itself. One of our party had ordered one of the fish dishes (sorry, can't remember which one, but it was a meaty fish) but when it arrived there were no sides for it. She had not been advised by the waitress that she might require a side, whereas another of our group who ordered a special was tod they might need a side to go with their main. As a result the first diner had only a small meal and the second diner was forced to share their side order with them (we considered ordering another side, but considered that we would almost have certainly finished eating before it arrived). Most fish and chip orders looked really big and tasty, but for some reason my was half the size of the others! I also only had a few chips and the mushy peas were pureed rather than mushy. On two occasions I complained to the waitresses that the service was intolerably slow but they merely said 'Oh. I'm sorry about that' and that was it. They had clearly been trained to ask how everything was, but didn't know what to do if someone said 'No'. The whole experience was annoying rather than being enjoyable, and when another group who arrived after you gets served before you then it's very, very infuriating. No deduction was made to our bill for the ridiculously long wait we had to endure for our food - surely someone must have realised there was a problem and no apology was made other than the aforementioned 'sorry about that'. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but that meal cost us £170. If you're going to spend £170 on a meal out then you expect at least a satisfactory dining experience, but this most certainly wasn't one. On the up side the drinks service was good and the wine/cocktails/beer served was very nice (I'm clutching at straws to find a positive). Sorry, but we won't be returning. We only go out for a 'posh' meal once every few months and when we do we want to enjoy the experience. Too risky to waste another meal out here and blow another £170 only to be left disappointed and annoyed again (I'm writing this the day after our meal and I'm still upset by the whole experience)

1 of my 2 favorite Sheffield restaurants, by far. I'm a tough customer, having friends/family in the restaurant business, and growing up amongst some of the best food in the world. I don't dine at many local places more than once, as I'm so often let down. I've eaten at Native twice, and looking forward to my 3rd time, which won't come soon enough. I was raised on seafood and living here, I've missed it terribly. I wasn't sure I'd ever have a delicious fish/shellfish meal locally. I'm so glad to have been proven wrong. This isn't just good for Sheffield, or the UK. This food would hold up in San Francisco and LA. Yes, it's that good. I've ordered the lobster twice, since that's what I miss and crave most. I've always been a thermidor fan, but my first time, the server recommended garlic butter. It was perfect. The next time I got my beloved rich sauce, and while tasty, it just seemed a bit much. The lobster was so good that I prefer it with the simpler garlic butter. I'd never eaten lobster with fries (or chips as you say) previously, and don't really care for them, but the fries here are delicious! I surprised myself by eating most of them. The Caesar salad that comes with it is very good as well...the flavors are so perfectly balanced in this trio, it nearly brought a tear to my eye. I need to order a vegetable side next time, since that's how I was raised, but I'll likely have to go without fries in that case, since the servings are fairly generous. While the one thing I was slightly less pleased in was the scallop starter - cooked well, I just like a bit more flavor (tho know they're catering for local tastes), the crab arancini is astoundingly good. In fact one of the best starters I've ever had (and I've had some fantastic starters at well-known, highly praised establishments). I only wished there'd been more sauce, it's heavenly. I didn't try any dessert as I don't have much of a sweet tooth, and was too full anyway, yet highly recommend the cocktails. I'm not a wine drinker, but a proud mixed drink connoisseur. They make some strong, mighty tasty ones here. The margarita and amaretto sour are especially nice, however I wish they'd use maraschinos rather than those sticky, mushy glace cherries. It really makes a difference, and the stickiness wasn't fun. The service was excellent, both when we were the only table and when they were at 80% or 90% capacity. Though they were using the accessible toilet to store some things, which meant I had to wait for it to be moved (and standing isn't always easy for me). That's always a huge disappointment, and often makes the difference between me never going back to a restaurant, but idk if they're still doing that as I didn't use the facilities my last visit. I hope not. Disabled folks are already made to feel like they shouldn't leave the house here in UK, so it's disheartening when businesses make us feel like we're asking too much. Everything else is so good that I won't hold it against them too much. And they have an accessible entrance, which is huge, since most don't here. Disabled patrons are made to feel welcome, which is rare around here, so immensely appreciated. Other than that, the only thing that seemed incongruous to me was the decor. As a stylist and former decorater, I can't help but imagine what would really make a place shine, add to the aura, and emphasize what they do and are. There are a few things they could do to really create an ambience, while remaining true to their soul, but I know that's not big here in the north of England. It would make it that much more enjoyable however. Anyway, if you're local, you've got to try Native. If you're visiting, you should put it on your itinerary. This is seafood done right. I'm so glad it exists.

The quality of the fish here is good but unfortunately the prices and portions do not live up to expectations. We had half a lobster that was tiny with a side salad which was just simply some leaves and sauce. Very expensive and underwhelming. The staff and service were excellent such a shame they they choose to scrimp on the portions and under season the food. I left hungry and disappointed.

Really excited to try this place but left very underwhelmed.The food was extremely overpriced for what it was and lacked any sort of seasoning and portions very small.Sharing starter was just 2 tiny pieces of bread with a few minuscule bits of rollmop,anchovy and trout....

Had a fabulous evening, lovely seafood, great service, loved the decor and atmosphere. The passion for seafood was obvious. We are lucky to have this gem in Sheffield!

Enjoyed everything about this dining experience. The food, the staff and the atmosphere was excellent. Thoroughly recommend. Although our spend seems on the high side, was mainly due to the wine! Prices for the food are very competitive and good value.

Not a very decent experience if you have you meal in the basement; it is very dirty, old, and ill-smelled.
