Nannys Shop in Highland

If you’re in Shieldaig you must stop here, the minute you enter and feel the relaxed and friendly vibe and smell of fresh food cooking you will already know you’ve stumbled upon a gem. We had two morning rolls with black pudding and they were of supreme quality and priced fairly, the home made cakes are to die for and the coffee is great. It’s an interesting cafe too with local information and crafts to browse.

Once many years ago, we visited a cafe in Aviemore that has since closed. It had the best cake i had ever tasted and nothing came close, until I had carrot cake from Nanny's. It was amaaaaazing. It was a cold October day and we popped in for some cake and immediately felt welcomed and the atmosphere was very cosy. The service was excellent and we would highly recommend. If we weren't leaving so early tomorrow, i would be going back for more!

Lovely cafe in a stunning location overlooking Loch Shieldaig with friendly and attentive staff, we were also lucky enough to see a pair of sea eagles soaring above us as we arrived. The weather was so good last week we were able to sit outside to enjoy our lunch of sandwiches, cakes and coffee which were all delicious, will definitely be back next time we vist the area.

Great place… lovely staff, great food, great value. We had cheese toasties which were simple but delicious, and Oat Milk flat whites which were great (and I’m very fussy!)

Nous avons lu sur un livre de voyage de l'Ecosse, qu'il fallait absolument aller à cette adresse si on était dans le coin. C'est un petit restaurant mais avec des tables familiales et des tables pour deux, on s'est attablé avec d'autres personnes. Elles sont plusieurs dames à faire la cuisine devant vous, et on a pris cette fameuse soupe au saumon fumé. Un régale. Avec des scones au fromage. Délicieux ! Je recommande vivement...Quand on va à Shieldaig, on ne regrette pas le lac, le restau et le petit vendeur de saumon fumé au bout du village. Allez y...pour l'apéro c'est excellent !

Just when you think the visited the best restaurant in Scotland, you come across Nanny's. Just excellent after driving 100 miles there, so good we are going to drive back later thus week. Great staff , great food. Just lovely. Xxxx

Coffee and the most delicious coffee cake, you really do need to love coffee. My other half had a pot of tea and a fruit scone with butter and jam. Good service and atmosphere in this cafe with the Celtman buzz. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

We came across Shieldaig after driving the Bealach na ba pass. The sign on the road was a little black one that caught my eye. Nanny’s is a nice spot right next to the water. We had the delicious salmon chowder and for dessert apple caramel cake and carrot cake

Absolutely fabulous good food, excellent value and lovely staff. Its at the end of a body of water great scenery. If you like to wonder and see spectacular scenery go here .

Great food, with a good choice, a beautiful view, friendly service. BUT, that’s not why I’m leaving this comment. I turned up in a tight spot, on a solo cycling trip, with a serious mechanical issue with my bike. I’d walked out from the Applecross road because the bike was unusable. I was looking to see if I could find somebody in the village with a van who could take me on to my accommodation for the night, as I contemplated abandoning the trip. The cafe owners were so helpful and sold me a bike tyre off their own bike, so the trip is back on. It was incredibly kind and decent - I will remember that for the rest of my days. Oh, and the food is very good too. One small suggestion for future improvement - how about going pro and opening a bike repair shop next year too? Thanks again!!!

Leuke plek aan het Loch in een plaatsje wat je onderweg zeker even moet zien. Lief geholpen en lekker buiten gezeten (binne kan ook).

Lovely food, cosy and clean surroundings however a weird vibe from staff. Not the most friendly. It felt like they couldn’t wait to clear our table. It’s a shame as it’s the only cafe in the village.

Seriously, the best Salmon Chowder I have ever had. I keep working to duplicate the recipe. I have come close, but no cigar. One day I will have to visit Scotland again... to savor that beautiful flavor. My brother and SIL had the Cullen Skink and spent the next week and a half trying to find a place that could top Nanny's....they all failed. Generally... Scotland is not considered a culinary destination....but we sure got a suhere!

So pleased we called in for lunch. The chowder and soup options were not disappointing and exceeded our expectations. Hot drinks a plenty and so much more. Such a stunning location and fabulous food and hospitality. Thank you @Nanny's.

What can be said... Excellent welcome, warm and friendly, Great "simple" menu... Good variety but short and uncluttered. The venue is spotless and really relaxing... And... Then the food... The Salmon Chowder is world class... I have never had better!!! The Sandwiches were beautifully constructed... plenty of filling, but in the right proportions to deliver a balanced flavour... and the Nanny's dill sauce is in a class of its own. The team are really friendly and very efficient... they deserve success for many a year!!! P.s. remember to add the tip when paying by card... especially if you are paying before being served your order.... you'll only feel guilty if you don't.

Spent a few days in Torridon and stopped in on way to airport. Kitchen had closed, but was offered a hot soup option to take away. Hot smoked salmon soup was delicious.

We stopped in for afternoon tea, and I ended up ordering two very tempting desserts instead. An Affogato and a piece of Victoria sponge. (I did share). Both were scrumptious! We didn't have to wait long to receive our food, and we chose to eat at an outside table as it was a beautiful day. The staff was quite attentive, and we were thanked for stopping in. Definitely a place to stop if you are visiting Shieldaig.

What a beautiful setting to have a lovely cafe. The food is so delicious and everything freshly made.Had lunch here a few days while staying in the area. Both times I was so happy with the quality of the food and flavours. Very friendly people and love the community feel. Dog friendly. Box food for takeaway which was every bit as nice. What a find!! Fell upon this place and so happy too! Excellent quality, tasty homemade food, including soups, sandwiches and light meals. For the coffee lover, a great range. Setting was fabulous, busy when I visited, so sadly all outside tables full. Friendly, happy staff and so relaxed. Some items sold out, but still plenty of choice and shows that home made! Free parking along the front, stunning views out to sea and the island. Good toilet facilities, all working and clean. Reasonable prices. Just a lovely place with great food and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We visited on our cycle tour of the NC500 and it was a welcome respite from the rain. The pea and mint soup with delicious and warmed us up beautifully. Coffee was delicious and so was the brownie and tiffin. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the service rapid even though it was very busy. They didn’t seem to mind two soggy cyclists procrastinating in the corner! Thank you team Nanny’s!

Hidden Gem, fantastic food, great service, amazing location. Stopped whilst motorcycling in the area with friends, had the lobster sandwich and carrot cake, phenomenal.

Had the most delicious Chowder and my husband had the venison toastie which was equally delicious! Very reasonably priced, service was first class and staff (and other customers) so friendly and welcoming! Will definitely return and would highly recommend to others.

Very tasty food, excellent salmon, friendly staff, good value. It's the other end of the village from the campsite so we sadly only went once but I'll definitely go back when we're next in the area.

Food was excellent, especially the BBQ food on the Friday evening. However, £16.50 for a burrito and side is over the top expensive. There's not many options in the area to eat so they seem to have made the most of the opportunity. Lovely friendly staff.

We nipped off the main road into Shieldaig to get a bite to eat and were not disappointed when we came across Nanny’s cafe. Stunning peaceful location on the sea front, friendly staff and DELICIOUS food. Highly recommend the hot smoked salmon salad. Sensible COVID measures in place. Lots of nice outdoor seating. We stopped for a coffee, which was excellent and ended up having to have some of their home baking as it looked so good.

Great to see somewhere up north that is trying to do something interesting rather than the usual haddock and chips for £15. This place is more than just a cafe, though it works as that too. The day we were there they were preparing for a series of bbq nights with modern ingredients and interesting dishes- fantastic and definitely something to be supported. The staff are also so nice and friendly. Great place.

Lovely little cafe with great views across the Loch. Great selection of local produce and freshly baked cakes, I would heartily recommend the Apple & Blackcurrant cake drizzled with cream. This cafe seems to be the hub of village life with plenty of locals calling in for coffee, cake and a blether.

Day one of NC500 trip and stopped in here around 1pm. I had the most gorgeous piece of coffee and walnut cake washed down with a latte and him indoors had a tuna mayo and onion sandwich which came with some crisps, salad and coleslaw and a pot of tea. Served quickly by friendly staff, prices were as expected, lovely views out the window over the loch, it was a bit cold to sit outside but there was plenty of seating for warmer days. WC facilities were lovely and clean which counts for a lot IMO. Top marks to Nanny’s :-)

Had read good reviews of this place so decided to stop in for lunch. It was a lovely day so we sat outside on a bench table with our dog. The views were lovely! I ordered the salmon on brown bread and my partner ordered a cheese savoury sandwich. Both were very fresh and tasty but expensive. The cakes cost over £3 and looking at what other people were served, the slices weren't particularly generous so we never bothered with a cake. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick.

During our stay in Shieldaig we had three times breakfast at Nanny's. I'm especially fond of their Scottish pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, but the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs stacked on toast (white or brown, as you prefer) are worth tasting. My personal advice: order the filter coffee, it is really excellent (and includes free refill).

We stopped here for lunch and had one of the best bowls of salmon chowder we have ever had and possibly the best food we had in all of Scotland. Great location came complete with a lovely rainbow after lunch.

Became an expert on seafood chowder after a week of eating it in various stops on our north west highland holiday. this was the best place, also amazing cakes. Staff at Nanny's were lovely. Location is amazing so all in all a must stop.

This place is great, would deservedly do well even in a busy city, to have such a wonderful place in a remote spot as this is a real bonus. Ate here twice. Service and food impeccable. Nice vibe. Seafood chowder especially good.

Well just over 7 years on since my last review( see below 7 August 2012) and Everything is even better. We had a weekend up in Torridon and had 2 Breakfasts at Nanny's -one on a monday morning (yesterday) and business was good. The shop/ tin hut has expanded to a substantial modern cafe and gift shop and the menu has expanded but the quality and service remains as good- obviously with an expanded staff- all were happy and very helpful and you just get the impression that people want to help you-Bacon and stornoway black pudding roll and cappuccino with my wife having pancakes with bacon and maple syrup- all served by pleasant and happy staff- well recommended as there were no real downsides and the cards on offer are beautiful- well done to Lynn and her team!!"Went to shieldaig from applecross and sort of struggled to get lunch but went to Nanny's and was not disappointed .weather was lovely which was an added bonus and had some soup sandwiches and cakes with coffee outside-service was friendly and could not help think this place needed to be bigger as it was areal attraction - keep up the good work"

What a lovely find Nanny’s is, very pretty cafe overlooking the loch. We ordered lunch and sat outside as it was a lovely day. My husband had a squat lobster sandwich which came with salad and I had home made tomato soup and chunky bread. Both meals were delicious. We declined the cakes but they were very tempting! Just lovely.

We came across Nannys by chance when driving past. What a find. Such friendly welcoming staff. They made sure everyone found somewhere to sit and best tea all week.

Visited here last week for breakfast and we weren’t disappointed my missus had scrambled egg and she was very impressed and said the best scrambled eggs she’d ever had! , I opted for a breakfast roll and it was spot on!! Coffee very good and no room for cake so we got some as a takeaway and had them later!! very nice!!

Stop here for lunch or simply a coffee. All the offerings are freshly made, and looked wonderful. If you are looking for a stop, this is the place.

We found this delightful place quite by chance while staying in torridon. We just had coffee and cake but wish we’d had time to return for lunch. The staff were lovely. If you’re doing the North Coast 500 as we were do call in. You won’t regret it.

From the southern part of Applecross (Toscaig) we drove up to Shieldaig along the Western Ross Coastal Trail. We stopped several times to enjoy the views, the rainbows strong standing in the sky. In Shieldaig we stopped at Nanny's to have lunch. What a busy place on a weekly day! Nice people serving, good cleaning in between. Really a place to come back to!

Called for coffee and shortbread. Coffee was good, decent size for the price and homemade shortbread was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful and the toilet facilities were clean. Looked to be a popular place and the added bonus was watching 2 sea eagles.
