Nan Bei Chinese Dumplings in Newcastle upon Tyne

Updated photo menu. Freshly made dumplings, so I was prepared to wait. The place is inside the Grainger Market, and you can see the staff busy working away, making various dumplings and other foods for customers. The prawn har gow (dumplings) was very tasty @ £4.99 for 5 the boa buns are £1.80 each they also do noodles and various teas. There are stools to sit on and a table to the side of the unit great for wheelchair users to park up and enjoy their food.

The staff I talked to was impatient, and the portion of cold noodles was tiny. It’s a size of a cup noodle! Definitely not worth 9 pounds. I have tried dumplings before and they were ok, but I’ll just go to restaurants in Stowell Street when I crave Chinese food next time.

The lady who served us seems kinda impatient. Didn't finish the noodle as it's tasteless. 8 pounds for a dumpling soup and added another 2 pounds to add noodles - only 4 dumplings inside. Totally disappointed and not worth.

Relatively good dumplings and a reasonable price. The staff are very nice and it’s an enjoyable place to sit and eat.

There are not enough staff and the queue is quite long. The dumpling filling tastes a bit bland, the beef is well braised, and the price is not cheap.

Excellent dumplings and bao buns. The dumpling pastry was delicately thin and the filling perfectly generous and equally delicious. The char siu bao was also very tasty and well cooked. Lovely place for a quick but tasty meal

Friday noon party of three sampling 16 dumplings and 3 Char Siu Bao pork buns. Delicious! Small place with counter seating and 3 small tables. Definitely a must try.

Decent dumplings and left satisfied for the price. We had to wait a long time though. Would recommend pan fried over steamed.

Went here many times in the early morning. They upgraded from using disposable bowls to nice bowls as seen in the pictures. My family and I all ordered noodle soup. The wonton, vegetable, and spicy chicken. They’re all very good! The noodles taste very fresh 😊 The ladies behind the bar are nice and friendly too. 10/10 would recommend if you want something different in the morning.

Very affordable and quick. Not the most romantic of places (communal-style seating on long hard benches) but there's a charm to the market. Food could do with a bit more flavour but is elevated by the condiments provided.

For me, the food here is not as good as people think, but i can understand that locals enjoy this kind of chinese food thats more suited to their taste, but still relatively authentic Got some bao and some dumplings. The dumplings had quite a small amount of fillings and it wasnt hot. I recommend getting them pan fried. Same thing with the bao, not hot, unless they have to make it on the spot The prices are ok but I was slightly disappointed by the taste The chinese staff are friendly and tend to your requests.

Best dumplings in Newcastle . Tried almost all their variants in past few weeks. Love their chilli beef one and pork and cabbage one. Buns are really yummy too. I would also highly recommend their spicy beef noodles. It’s a warm bowl of love for a cold day. Very flavorful and a good portion size. Try their buns as well it’s yumm too a lot of different fillings to choose from and the chilly oil and condiments take it to another level. It’s just too good !!! This place will never disappoint you.

Lovely quaint stall in a very atmospheric area, fantastic price, quality and flavour. The first baos my fiancee has had and the best I could recommend.

Brilliant place, lovely food and friendly staff. All around great place that I would recommend for anyone willing to try new foods. If i was on my deathbed i would ask for the 4 dumplings and 1 bun deal for my last meal, delicious.

Amazing spicy chicken broth noodles! Very pleasant people as well. Not a lot of space to sit around but that's the nature of the shops in the Grainger market.

Wow, these are some of the best dumplings I’ve ever eaten. The fillings were so tasty. Especially the pork and cabbage and the chilli beef. The buns were very tasty too. And for such good value - only £5 for the lunch deal.

Fantastic and very authentic food. Great value at £5 for five dumplings and a bun. Super quick service and a good variety of fillings (vegan and veggie options too!). The roast duck bao is amazing.

Best food I'm grainger, so tasty and great price

My Mam and Me tried this for the first time today and we loved how tasty the dumplings were with the different fillings in and We loved the bun aswell :) I highly recommend it :) Staff were lovely too, Definitely going again :) 10 out of 10 :)

Amazing authentic Chinese dumplings, the BEST I’ve tried in U.K. I’ve been coming here for years. These dumplings beat more marketed ones in london (where I now reside)eg dumpling shack hands down. They’re freshly made and the skin is not too thick, not too thin. The key to good dumplings are freshness and the owners don’t cut corners. I’ve left newcastle now but every time I visit I come back for these dumplings which to me is comfort food and brings me back to asia. I hope their legacy lasts as it’s such a joy!

Always the best fresh made dumplings. I've been coming for years with my daughters , now my daughter comes with her uni mates. Dumplings are mouthwatering and simply divine. Definitely one of the places to go when in Newcastle.

Do your self a favour and go get a portion of steamed dumplings and a bun. Great little gem inside Grainger market, I can't go into town without a visit. Highly recommended!

Lovely dumplings!! Super cheap and they have small pots so you can add your own toppings of chilli oil, garlic, ginger and coriander + spring onions

Absolutely love this place and get my lunch here 2-3 times a week. The noodle soups are excellent and great value. Dumplings are also tasty.

The gyoza style dumplings are OK. Not great, not bad, but just OK for the price.

A must visit! Love it here, staff are lovely the dumplings are great. Highly recommend the wonton chicken soup w/ the added extra sprong onion, garlic & ginger. Just perfect on a cold day. Dumplings are delicious too, especially the scrambled egg & veg, and bbq pork.

Stopped just as they were closing and the lady was lovely as were the dumplings! And great price, will be back.

Used Snapsaver and was rude about me using it,started to talk Chinese saying that we shouldn’t be using making me feel uncomfortable.I’m paying monthly to this and they are apart of it.Won’t be coming back.It’s a no no.

Absolutely the best dumplings in Newcastle! We will be returning here, and they do delivery on delivery, and just eat. You can have boiled or fried dumplings with loads of options and very fair prices. Friendly staff.

Honestly one of, if not, my favourite places to get food in Newcastle! Their steamed buns are incredible but everything is - cant recommend it to enough people!

Really great food at good prices. I always get a mix of dumplings and a steamed bun or two. So far I’ve tried the char sui, red bean and custard buns, all of these are great. Very fast service but food is always fresh out the steamer. Lovely people who run it as well. I love coming here, there’s usually a queue around lunchtime for a reason!

Delicious! I got the beef and cabbage, chicken and mushroom dumplings which were to die for. Also I got the lotus seed bun which was amazing. If one thing was to be improved it would be the portion sizes

The best dumpling and soup in Newcastle. This is the only place that could satisfy me and my wifes craving for dumplings. We always go for second round here despite stomach full. Will come here again.

Tried the traditional pork and white cabbage and wonton with chicken soup both excellent and definitely will return during our trip. As a Chinese person we're always on the look out to find authentic dumplings and definitely found it here. Very good value for money too.
