Lovely lunch with daughter and grandchildren. Good deal with children eat for a pound being in school holidays. Food was good for lunch time if it was evening would have liked some veg or coleslaw or more salad etc. Staff were very friendly think we had Beth she was lovely. Small area for children to play and colouring papers and crayons to keep the children happy.

The atmosphere is nice, and the staff are all really friendly. The food was really nice.

Food was ideal for a quick lunch, service was great, bar lady was lovely. It was mid afternoon on a wednesday so not much atmosphere but fine for us and 3 children coming in and out all the time.

The 'Cluck and Moo' burger was superb and the chips were cooked to perfection. Based on this meal, highly recommended.

Stopped on way to Bridlington as little boy was hungry. Ordered 2 cowboy burgers and kids sausage and mash. After partner pored gravy on sausage and mash there was a bit of gravy in the pot. My partner dipped a chip in the gravy and when took chip out there was an hair on the end of the chip. I called foe the guy behind the bar and ask him to take it away as chip had a hair on from the gravy. He looked ate with descust and took the plate. Then returned and ask where the hair was , I told.him on the chip with gravy. He went back and asked for another meal to be made. And only apologised after he said the meal won't be long. After 10 mins we had all finished and fresh meal had not arrived so we left and ask for refund. The pub refunded 1meal and apologised again. Think this place need to start with manners and service with a smile. And train staff. I won't be returning again.

Been regulars coming here for quite some time. Booked for my wife's birthday. At time of booking it I told them it was her birthday. Arrived and brought a cake and asked them to plate it up and bring it after the mains. Well we arrived... Sat down... nobody came to take drinks orders... OK... ordered all 8 at the bar.... Sat waiting again... looks like we're ordering all 8 peoples food at the bar too... Is this normal on a reserved table? Carvery was pretty damn good! Steak.... meh. Quite chewy. We all sat waiting after eating mains... Nobody cleared the table... Nobody brought the cake out. Had to go ask the staff member about serving the birthday cake... Well... few minutes later he comes out basically puts the uncut cake on the table and walks off! Hahaha! We're sat there surrounded by dirty plates and a cake that we're supposed to just palm out with our hands!? Hahaha! OK. Maybe expected too much?

Haven't been for a long time,used to be regulars but went downhill, had the best meal in here today definitely coming back, lovely staff, great atmosphere. Maybe get live music on a Saturday night and quizzes on, especially with High Farm holiday park next door, it's definitely needed...spot on👍

When we came as a group last time the food was really overcooked and the staff were not that welcoming, but with the food we had last night was outstanding and delicious and the fact the staff were really warm, friendly and welcoming made our experience far better than the last time we came. Will definitely be coming back.

Stayed here overnight in the camper van. Very quiet and a big car park. We were too late for food but they were very happy to let us stay.

We used to visit here every week until Chris and his wife left and since then it's been one bad owner after another, until today! The food was once again delicious and we will now be back regularly, a huge well done to the new owners. 💓

Great carvery! Meat was tender and juicy, yorkie puds were massive and the veg was just so tasty! The carvery bar was kept topped up. The staff were attentive and polite. The cost for the 2 of us to have a meal was good too. We'll definetely be coming back.

I took my mum out for dinner last Thursday and we ordered a sirloin steak since there was a steak and drink offer on.When the meals came the portion size was tiny so then when I went to pay the gentleman behind the till told me that the sirloin steaks are not actually part of the deal. Well why not tell me that when i ordered. Good job my partner was not with us as that would definately not fill him up and would still be hungry.

My second visit ever. The food last time was beautiful. The best steak pie I've ever had. Today I'm back for my birthday the lady behind the bar was so present and genuine. The welcome was lovely. I'm sure my steak Today will be as nice as the pie last time.

3 course meal 1st course soup less the baguette a slice of bread instead Main ordered 2 fish and chips too be told after ordering that had no fish so 1 was replaced by the smallest gammon steak I've ever seen the other meal wS replaced with hunters chicken well should I say half of chicken fillet Desert Fudge cake was lovely and 2 ice cream was probably the best course Overall experience very poor staff not really paying attention sorry to say the last time I will visit the nags head

The only thing I could say is that there wasn’t very many customers in and the food took quite a while to arrive so I wouldn’t like to be there if it was fairly busy.

Three of the group had the curry night special,all different types and all thoroughly enjoyed. Very good pub food at a reasonable price and helpful staff. A good find!

We were staying local for the weekend and decided to book a carvery at the Nags Head, the service was punctual and the staff was very friendly, the carvery was absolutely beautiful, plenty of choices of vegetables, 3 choices of meat and plenty on the plate, can highly recommend

This was our first visit to the Nags Head, the food was excellent and staff were really friendly would definitely go again.

We often come for a drink every couple of weeks and bring our dog. On this occasion we thought we would try the carvery and we was all very impressed, one of the best we've had. Service is always great and friendly staff. We will definitely be back.

Visited here on a Sunday as the Dacre Arms was booked up. They’d ran out of carvery so Sunday dinner wasn’t an option, only the main menu. I opted for the Cowboy burger and the missus the tikka masala. I would say these two meals were functional, we ate them both as we were hungry. Staff were ok. The place is spacious and clean with a nice outside area and big car park. I can’t speak for the carvery, that may be amazing Would I personally come back? Probably not, but as always, these things are subjective.

Booked a table, arrived on time, and travelled some distance. Only to be told we've turned the ovens off. I asked why couldn't you have contacted me to save me the wasted journey and find another venue, you had my details. I was ignored. It appeared they just wanted to shut early, as I saw staff leave. ***UPDATE*** Manager got intouch explained in his absence a temp manager was covering that night. Apologised and offered us a free meal. Happy with the meal and service on our returned night.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the carvery and its was amazing beef is the best I've tried from a carvery. Partner had mixed grill and again tasted lovely. We will be back again very soon

We eat out at the Nag's Head as often as we visit Hornsea. Good place for a meal, reasonable and friendly. Food has always been very good.

We visited the pub for the first time. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are all very helpful and welcoming. The cowboy burger was lovely and no complaints from the rest of the family. The desserts were all great too and generous portions. We will definitely be back.

Service was really good but wish we had been made aware that it was a different menu from the website as we had chosen meals before we came yet none if them were on the set emnu

I visited for the first time a couple.of weeks ago with my husband and 3 children. The pub has a cosy welcoming feel. We ordered 5 mains and 5 desserts, everything was cooked to perfection 👌 The staff were all very friendly and efficient. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience from start to finish.

First time visiting The Nags Head. We were not disappointed!!! What a lovely pub!!! Staff were friendly and attentive. We ate here yesterday, and we were able to stop overnight in our motorhome in their large car park at the back of the pub. The staff were very welcoming, the pub had an excellent atmosphere, and the food was great! (Surf 'n Turf 👌 fab!!) We had booked a table in the dog friendly area, and our two Lhasa's really enjoyed the attentive staff and treats from the bar!! Will definately return, and special thanks to Beth, who went above and beyond!

Easy to book online, friendly welcome, lovely variety of food and a delicious carvery

The staff were brilliantly friendly and helpful... but that's where the positivity stopped I'm afraid. The specials board has been removed in favour of a "weatherspoons" type of menu with a very limited choice of cheap pub grub. The food we were served was of such a poor quality that not 1 of us finished our meals! 2 of us ordered mixed grills with steaks rare and blue, but what arrived were slabs of fat, beaten to paper thin pulp with a little well done meat of some description in-between. I have had steaks here for many years and have never seen such a poorly prepared piece of rubbish. I could buy Tesco value steak that looked better. My wife's meal, allegedly steak and ale pie, turned out to be microwaved until it had gone so hard that she couldn't even cut the pastry and was practically inedible. Left feeling disappointed and still a little hungry, we decided to try for a dessert in the hopes that that at least would be worth while. Sadly, no! My wife had the hot chocolate fudge cake which turned out to be a cheap piece of microwaved gateau that had been left heating for so long, the chocolate sauce had actually hardened to a solid lump and the ice cream sundaes we had were clearly shops own brand, cheapest of the cheap shelf, ICE cream. I emphasised the ice as there was definitely no cream to be had in it. All in all, a very poor excuse for an evening's dining and a waste of around £100. I used to have to book weeks in advance to get in here on a Friday night but was surprised to see that I need not have bothered as the place was practically empty! I have now had my surprise explained. My wife and I, along with our 2 friends all said the same thing; we won't be returning! And we certainly won't be recommending your establishment to anyone anymore (we'll, not people we like anyway). And you wonder why the pub trade is on its knees!

2nd time I have visited and good experience

I came to this pub on Wednesday 8th there was no one in I ordered the curry mum hunters chicken both pretty cold and chicken tough as old boots, but the most awful this was! A very large dead fly squashed into one of mums chips it was disgusting we were offered another meal which we polity declined. We had the bill retracted

Fantastic food, fantastic staff and fantastic service

I visited here with my family for a treat for my son, the pub was relatively quiet so we sat down and ordered food. Upon receiving our meal, my son’s pasta was bland and tasteless and would not eat. My chicken burger came with 3 small slices of lettuce that looked rotten and well past its date which I returned and did not want them to fix it as it really put me off. Although my meal was removed from the bill, I was shocked that a discount was not offered on the bill for the inconvenience..

Although the service was good and it's a lovely chilled atmosphere which is exactly what me and my partner love. The food was average today. The chef clearly doesn't know quite what medium rare is but that being said the team were absolutely spot on at getting our steaks freshly cooked.

The staff are always very friendly and the food was lovely. All four of us had the carvery. My only issue was that the beef was slightly overcooked and a bit dry.

Called in without a booking for Sunday lunch. Accommodated us and our dog. Food was hot, fresh tasting and tasty. Very clean environment. Easy parking. Staff attentive and polite. Marston never let's us down. Had Xmas dinner twice now as well, that's how good we think the food and place is. Excellent.

UPDATE: Received email from manager and i replied to a third party which is an unmanned email. Had a phone call and he was extremely apologetic and issued a refund for the items we did not receive, we did not ask for a full refund but am sure he would have done is i had asked. We like to update our reviews when any thing happens as this is a fair way for visitors to know the whole experience. We will leave this update for the same time as the previous review so people can see that our issues were delt with straight away when the manager was notified. We went to the Nags Head for Christmas dinner and it was our fourth visit there and was expecting something of the same. It felt like they put on their young staff and even on arrival a happy christmas as we arrived would have been nice. After seating we wasnt told anything i.e. that your starters will come and then you will be called to go to the carvery. Then just as we had finished our mains they came over with our extra sides we had paid for. We told them we didnt want them as we had now finished eating and please refund us. I had also paid extra in advance for a Baileys which i never received. The food on the buffet was not as good as regular sunday carvery with undercooked yorkshire puddings, over cooked potatoes and considering the price is a lot more vs sunday lunch i would have expected more. The desserts were not very nice either and considering we are a family of dessert lovers it was a real shame. I have sent 2 emails now asking for a partial refund for the food and drink we paid for and didnt get and they haven't responded so hoping a review may increase their communication skills.

Good food, left alone to get on and eat

Service used to be at the table but now it's only at the bar and not as pleasant an experience. The menu is now very limited whereas it used to be larger, like other Marston's locations also no specials board.

The food would of been nice if it had arrived hot. Everyone's meal was cold. No one came over to ask us how our food was after we received it and we waited well over an hour to actually receive the food. Won't be going back.

Hadn't been back for food for about 3 years. Thought we'd give it another go... what a regret that was, think we'll leave it another few years till we go again. Steak was horrible, 8oz 👎 no way, the lettuce, I think was last weeks, well what little bit there was. Chips overcooked. Pub was completely empty at 7.30pm at night. Told the waiter about the steak and just told he'd mention it to the chef. Wouldn't recommend

The worst Christmas dinner we have ever had. Started ok, with the starters brought to our table. We were then told when it was our turn to go to the car very to collect our main course. That’s when it started to go downhill. The queue was about 12 deep when it should have been timed for us to go straight to be served. we must have waited about 20 minutes before the began to move, people were waiting for various vegs which were empty, roasties, mash etc. The roast potatoes were cooked but have never been in an oven (still white), turkey was as dry as a bone and the yorkshire puddings were as flat as a frisbee. The food was really poor quality. So the we waited for our desert, and waited and waited till after 40 mins I approached one of the bar staff to ask where they were, who responded with “ oh f*****g hell” as he stormed off. A member of staff came to ask us what we would like to drink ‘on the house’ but by this time we has all had enough so we put our coats on and left without desserts. The manager when I spoke politely to him just didn’t know how to respond, except to say that yes there was a delay and was sorry. Shan’t be visiting The Nags head at Routh anymore.

Never again! I don’t know where to start. There was 15 of us booked in for Christmas Lunch and how disappointing from the very start, we got three starters served to us and the rest of the starters came out 20mins later after we had to ask where they were, the soup was luke warm. We where then asked to make our way to the carvery, there was no veg, no roast potatoes we had to stand and wait with our meat on plates going cold while the staff re stocked the veg etc the food we had was disgusting, you couldn’t even cut through the broccoli with a knife, the Yorkshire puddings where like pancakes and the roast potatoes looked like they had never seen an oven! @£52 pp you would expect better. Wished we had complained, but we just wanted to get out of there to be honest. Absolute shambles from start to finish!

Visited on 8th December for festive meal with 23 others. Had a great evening, The food was very good and great value. We couldn't fault the staff , each and everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable evening. We do often go on a Sunday for the carvery and it never fails to please. Would highly recommend it. Many thanks to all the staff.

Went for curry night. Ordered the Chicken Tikka, was thin and watery. Genuinely had better Indian ready meals. The beer was also flat but was swapped without issue. Staff friendly and helpful.

East Yorkshire Lotus Owners Club. We recently moved from our regular venue for our monthly meets to the Nags Head at Routh. It has been a positive move due to the excellent service provided by Chris and Karen and their staff. We had our Christmas dinner there last Saturday and everyone who attended said that it was the best Christmas get together we have ever had. A great venue, staff that can not do enough to ensure you have a great time. Thank you Chris, Karen and Staff

I ate as a part of a large party, service was good throughout and the food was amazing. I had the carvery, the meat was great, as were the sides and the gravy was perfect, not too thick, not too watery. For dessert I had the praline tart which was so rich, but great and perfect when paired with the ice-cream. A few people in our party did have an issue with their dessert. However, it was rectified immediately and with great professionalism. Therefore, everyone left feeling full and happy. Overall, I found it a great experience and I will definitely be returning.

Average, not bad, not great, I had the hunters chicken which was ok but dry, two others in my group returned their food due to an order mix up and food temperature not hot or even warm. They did say they were understaffed, but there was plenty of room in the car park.

Visited here yesterday for our Christmas get together. Unfortunately it was the worst meal we've ever had. Starters served cold. Main dinner was cold. No 5min check. Plates not cleared away & missing deserts. To be fair the manager did apologise & compensated us but they really need to address the clear issues with the kitchen staff & waiting service. What happened to good old fashioned high standards of service?

My childrens food came out hot our food on the other hand was Luke warm!staff not friendly.very disappointed paying nearly £50.never leave reviews but had to on this occasion.

Great service and carvery is the best around

Booked for lunchtime for a friends birthday. The staff were extremely helpful and the food was excellent. We found also that it was extremely good value. Would recommend to anyone to have a meal here.

Food was terrible. Ordered the steak pie which was obviously a frozen one and the meat tasted as if it had come out of a tin, gravy was so thick it wouldn’t come out of the jug. Husband ordered gammon but it was so tough he couldn’t eat it all. Both our chips were only luke warm. When leaving we complained and was told our complaints would be passed to the chef but they can only serve the food thst the suppliers send them.

The kids pasta was hardly warm and the lasagna was overcooked. Not many puddings left and took ages to be brought out.

First time visiting yesterday and we really enjoyed our time. It was very quiet but there was still a cosy atmosphere inside. We ordered our food at the bar, the team were really helpful and freidnly making reccomendations. The food arrived quite quickly and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice quiet location would definitely go back.
