We’ve popped into Museum Street Tavern a few times for evening drinks, the service has always been so friendly and it’s such a lovely pub with a cosy atmosphere. Because of this, I decided to book here for my birthday meal. The communication from the team was amazing, and they ensured there would be vegan options for my brother. From start to finish, the service was impeccable- everyone was so attentive and lovely. The food was delicious and the portions were good sizes. I don’t know why this place isn’t busier!! Definitely my favourite pub in York. Thank you to the whole team, we’ll definitely be back in the future😊

A truly amazing place to have a beer and a bite to eat. Visited previously but just called in for a quick drink during a shopping trip, the gentleman behind the bar was so friendly and welcoming and the beer is well kept. Loads of great places to sit and everything is absolutely spotless. Well worth a visit 🍻

My husband and I went for dinner yesterday evening before going to the theatre. Service (Ryan) was excellent. My husband had Spanakopita-filo pastry with feta, dill & Spinach and I had Greek style overnight lamb shoulder lemon & rosemary potatoes. We added dauphinoise. Food was absolutely delicious, well presented and it was such joy to have a menu which is creative and lives up to your expectations. Ambience and background music was good with diners in all rooms. Will certainly return. The best food I’ve eaten in York for a long time.

Evening meal out for six, including 2 kids. We were warmly greeted and provided with a varied but wholesome menu. All of the adults had different mains, lamb shoulder, chicken pie, fish and chips, spinach and feta pie. All of them were delicious. Great portion sizes too. The accompanying dauphinoise potatoes and chips were delicious also. The wine selection was really good and our host knew all about them, providing us with a really good red option. Will definitely go back next time we visit York.

Just popped in for a pie & and a pint! Great selection on draught, gorgeous chicken pie and brilliant service! If you're looking for a pub with a welcoming atmosphere, and everything you'd desire from a pub...look no further! I very much recommend and will be frequenting here myself. It's lovely to see life breathed into a once closed venue... here's to it becoming a key spot in York!

In the late 80s and early 90s, I loved this pub. That's when it was Thomas's, a smart and quite brilliant John Smith's establishment. You can argue it's been to hell and back since then with different owners and name changes. As the Museum Street Tavern, it's on its uppers again although like boats, pubs shouldn't change names. Handy for Museum Gardens and the railway station.

This was such a great choice to eat in. We had bao buns, a prawn dish and a third of braised lamb shoulder with dauphinoise potatoes. All were exquisite. The staff were super friendly. We sat in a side room, which had loads of atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Superb selection of wines and standard style pub food offering could contend with gastro-pubs with from about a dozen main options and 6 or so starter and 3-4 sweet options - all excellently cpmposed and cooked. Celeric and Mushroom pie really excellent. Cosy atmosphere but its a pub after all.

We had a really good meal here as a family to celebrate a special birthday. The food was very good with interesting choices on the menu. Everyone was able to select something that they really enjoyed. Advice on wine was spot on. There’s a extensive and interesting wine selection. Service was good and surroundings steeped in history. We were all glad we’d chosen the Museum Street Tavern for this special event. It’s the second time I’ve eaten there recently and I’m now looking forward to trying the special lunchtime menu as well.

BEST FOODIE PUB IN YORK … in the humble opinion of a thirty-something couple who’ve recently moved up from East London. With an ever-changing and always-banging menu, a quality selection of natural wines (including some proper funky oranges), a chic yet cosy interior, and a friendly, welcoming and just generally sound team, it really is the one. We’ve eaten here on a number of occasions and it just gets better every time. Our most recent visit was for our family Christmas lunch, and Zoë and Richard (the lovely owners) made it so special. The team were incredibly accommodating for my wife who has crippling pescatarianism and allium allergies, I shared a venison wellington with my parents and it was next level, and my bro rated his pie as “the best he’s ever had”. Huge claim but absolutely valid. Can’t recommend it enough to anyone who likes great food, natural wines, a stylish setting and nice people.

What a lovely hidden gem. We couldn't find anywhere during the Sunday lunchtime rush without queuing . Peering in doesn't look inviting (dark) but I could see it wasn't busy , so ticked that box. Made very welcome by a lovely girl to took our order. OMG , seriously I have not tasted food like it. You could taste every individual bit , flavours were so intense , couldn't believe it. Some other reviews have commented on lacking atmosphere and being pricey... York is the capital of the North , prices are going to be slight high. £18 for a fantastic one is NOT expensive ! As for atmosphere , there was "subtle" background music playing. Atmosphere is what you make / bring with you , we found it relaxing from the outdoor hustle & bustle . We each (2) had a Sunday dinner and relaxing 5 drinks = £100 . We will definitely be back (hopefully this review hasn't shot me in the foot)

Popped in on spec for a sunday lunch. Found it to be overpriced and neither of us impressed with the plate served to us. Not enough veg on the plate and both meals swimming in gravy. Soft drinks were also overpriced although service was polite. Disappointing I'm afraid.

Good location but zero atmosphere. There was only one other table in the entire place and I’d say it’s due to the prices. It was over £16 for a 175ml wine and a pint. I’d happily pay that if the service, atmosphere and quality was there but it was lacking on all three. If you’re charging nearly £10 for a medium wine I’d expect a nice glass but Wetherspoons has nicer glasses than this place (see picture for the 20p tiny working men’s club glass that they serve their wine in). There was more staff than customers so you’d expect pretty good service but we didn’t even get a hello just a nod which I assume meant ‘what can I get you’. Used to visit sometimes when it was Thomas’ and we were curious to see what it was like after reopening but I won’t rush back.

We thought we’d try this new pub in York haven’t treated ourselves for a roast in a long time! Well it was a disappointment I’m afraid … starting with a positive the service was lovely so thanks to the nice young waitress behind the bar👍 But the food was pricey and portions were small and tasted very average. The plate was cold so the food got cold very quickly too! Had the chicken stuffing roast , chicken was dry and stuffing was hard to find on the plate only a few burnt crumbs.the chopped Green cabbage was pretty much raw and floating in the gravy, 1 carrot, 3 potatoes and a yorkshire sorry but that is very slim on the veg… what about some cauli cheese, green veg or red cooked cabbage in a nice red wine sauce? Same goes for the roast beef 2 thin slice and the same plate of poor veg as the chicken. We were both so disappointed not good value for money and tasted very average I’m afraid… You go in town for a treat pay quite a bit of money and go home still hungry and frustrated. We went there at 1pm and the place was empty maybe that was a sign and we should have walked away? We thought we’d try a new pub but with all honesty we will go back to our usual which is fully booked every Sunday and where you know you will 100% have a good meal every time! I really wanted to write a good review but I can’t.

We went into the Ivy not knowing anything about it but it looked inviting from the outside and it was cold and rainy and an awful weather-wise day. How pleasantly surprised we were. It seemed to be snooty and stuffy but wasn't. Beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. My friend had the 1917 Menu of starter and main: Salmon Rillette with avocado, salad and rye bread and main of Shepherds' Pie. I had a starter of roasted scallops with creamed spinach and potato puffs. The cost: no more than what you would've paid in a neighborhood cafe. And the rose colored ladies' bathroom is beautiful!
