Lovely meal fantastic customer services very pleasant place

Visited a few weeks ago. 3 generations, we all loved it. Believe the hype and the influencers!! Great fish, cooked how it should be. Amazing service too. If you have not visited.... Why not? We will be back!

Visited lunch time on 5th September with Mum & Dad on our regular visit when doing an airport run, we all ordered the same meal of Fish & Chips, I love Haddock and would always be my go to option over other fish, when eating the fish I had the distinct impression it was not haddock, nor was it cod, tasted very watery and had a pungent fishy smell, my parents loved theirs so I gave them some of my fish and I tried some of theirs. They definitely did have haddock and was very nice and cooked to perfection, they both agreed that whatever I had it was not haddock. Also found a gristly bit in the fish that was not bones so no idea what that was. Didn't want to complain on the day as the restaurant was rammed with customers. Just thought they should know that their supplier may have mixed other types of fish in with the haddock they buy.

Food quality & freshness was really good they do offers for senior people which is still good as a fish and chip supper is always a good classic for the older generation. This place does allow coaches into their car park but I think a full-size coach would struggle with alloted space unless prior notice was given. A cheetahXL had plenty of room. I tend to go for lightly battered when eating fish from a chippy, there was no real delay in my food being served to me even though they had a full-ish dining area. Fish was hot, moist and flakey. The battery was crispy and not oily leaving my mouth feeling clean after every mouthful. Would highly recommend this place if you're after a decent fish & chips, if you're close by or just passing.

Didn't book, was very busy but got seated fairly quickly. Probably the best fish and chips we've ever had, the food was amazing, very fairly priced and the staff were friendly (even though they were rushed off their feet) definitely give this place a go if you're in the area but would recommend booking x

What a hidden gem this place is, after a 2 hour drive on our motorbike in the rain we wasn't disappointed. From walking in through the door the staff were so helpful and tentative. A little wait for our food but it had been freshly cooked. You could taste the fish was very fresh. It is well worth a visit we will be returning for sure if I could have given Murgatroyds 10 stars for each category I would have done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had haddock chips and mushy peas unfortunately the peas needed cooking a bit more as some of them were a bit crunchy so a bit disappointing also portion size quite good

Great value Senior Extravaganza deal, we both have good appetites but even we had leftover fish, which was delicious and too good to waste. Lovely staff member boxed it up for us to take away. Highly recommended and just across the road from the Leeds Bradford Airport Premier Inn where we were staying. Will definitely visit again.

Visited here before flying out of LBA early the next morning. Lots of choice, not just fish and chips, but that said the fish was first class. Really good value too. Will definitely visit again

I wrote a review in 2015 saying these were the worst fish and chip I had tried……..so much better today, nice crispy batter on the fish which crumbled with just a fork pushed into it and delicious chips to accompany it…….glad I gave them another chance

Complained about a very dry fish and offered another, but as a party of 7, didn't want to wait for another fish to be cooked. Was offered a discount by 2 members of staff, but on paying the bill, a discount was refused. Re your reply. The meal was not fully consumed, three quarters of the fish was left. Our meal was booked for 4.45, and we were shown to our table on time. Our meal had been ordered but didn't arrive till after 5.35 and we were not asked if everything was OK within the 5 minutes you state. The restaurant was exceedingly busy at the time. It was impractical to expect 6 other people to wait while the fish was cooked for our 7th guest bearing the long wait we'd already had. If the server hadn't the authority to authorise a refund/discount, a manager should have been summoned. The experience spoilt our granddaughters 8th birthday meal. We shall think twice about coming again.

Why is this so good and why is it in the middle of nowhere? I would assume it’s famous judging the size of car park. It totally deserved so, crispy fish, properly bloated and battered. Chippies are freshly fried. Will do that again!

One of the best fish and chips, portions are massive and good value

Appalling service. My 4 year old daughter had a large crack on her glass of water and I didn't notice until after she had been drinking from it. After complaining to the pleasant waiter who was lovely, I still had no manager come and apologise or offer a replacement out of respect and courtesy. When bringing this up with the ladies behind the bar when paying, they had the attitude that it wasn't a big deal and I did not feel listened to enough. They simply said that the waiter said I was okay about it. Not good enough. I expect better service when paying good money, especially when it is my child at the centre of this.

There’s good and there’s better than good and then there’s excellence which is Murgatroyds. I’ve eaten some great fish and chips all over the UK but never as good as here. Wonderful staff and excellent value. 😋😋😋

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently visited MURGATROYDS and had the fish and chips, and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious! The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the chips were golden and flavorful. The portion size was generous, and everything tasted so fresh. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. If you're looking for top-notch fish and chips, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Had fish and Chip supply at this restaurant. Very good fish and chips, excellent service and pleasant surroundings. My wife had a small fish and chips I had the standard size, mushy peas bread and butter with a cup of tea. Plenty parking well worth the drive.

My first visit to celebrate a 90th Birthday tea with my mother. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was good . We opted for the three course senior citizens Other family members enjoyed the two course special. There's a good selection to choose from. Will definitely recommend and looking forward to returning. Recommend booking beforehand as it gets busy.

Excellent meal - worth the wait! Been a while since our previous visit (which had been quite a disappointment, sadly) but delighted to say things have improved a lot. Service was great - apologies for us having to wait and then check backs to make sure our food was ok and the best fish and chips we've had for a long time (and that includes comparison to the two Whitby benchmark eateries). Really pleased to see things going well - chips were beautiful and the batter surrounding the fish was lovely and crispy. Delicious - though I had to bring some of my cod special home as the portion was so generous I couldn't manage it all in one meal! Thanks - you've restored my faith in Murgatroyds.

This place is amazing the fish is too die for, we were down from Scotland visiting friends and they took us here and I'm so glad they did we sat in and couldn't believe how busy this place is but after tasting the food I see why. I'm from the north east of Scotland and love my fish. Where I'm from we get fish fresh out the north sea so was so glad to have gotten one of the best haddock I've had in a while and the staff were all lovely too. Derek & Pam Mullen

Seniors menu fantastic value. 3 course for £15.50 including bread and butter and tea or coffee. Too "stuffed " to move afterwards ! Friendly staff too.

Update: Still fantastic 😹 Had a very tasty lunch today. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, which made for a very relaxing lunch. We love eating here, a treat and a half 😊 Original review: Fantastic trip to this lovely place. The staff were great and the food was brilliant. They're pretty big portions also 😁. They can be busy, so patients or booking ahead may be needed 👍

Excellent fish and chips cooked correctly in beef dripping. Not cheap but quality. Huge queue. There are only 2 fish and chip shops I use and this one of them. (The others in bramhope, but has much shorter opening hours). I live in Birmingham which is a desert when it comes to excellent fish and chip shops.iThe only negative is you do have to queue a fair while for the take out option.

The booths are a bit tight but everything else is top notch.

Just used part of our Christmas gift - a £50 voucher…… absolutely beautiful Big Un and chips, fishcake, curry sauce and mushy peas and only cost £24.20 so we can do it all again. Bonus is they give you the full balance on the voucher. Best chippy by far with fabulous staff.

Took girlfriend for Birthday, waiter was very polite. Clean table, chips were nice and soft inside and fish was very tasty.

Been this evening and had to wait ages to get our food. The young cashier was taking orders and giving out receipts to wait for food to a point where it was getting over crowded. The fish a chips portion was a good size and had to be for £10 but the chips were not cooked property and were hard probably due to rushing the cooking time to try clear the shop of waiting customers. Staff are nice and polite and parking was ok.

Well, very disappointed. Garlic chilli prawns (5 prawns), two pieces of (burnt) garlic bread. Waitress offered to change them and did. Tho she took a long time to return. Which was the theme of the evening. The main courses took an age. But murgatroyds is a fish and chip shop, why does an order of one fish and chips and two scampi and chips take so long. Outrageous. Worst of all, waiting time for the bill. Twiddling fingers are now raw. I could go on, but wasted enough time on Murgatroyds, twiddling fingers are now stumps. Won't be back anytime soon👎

As always the food was tasty and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend this restaurant as one of the best fish restaurants.

We ordered the Billy Murg meal deal, which included a large fish, coffee, bread and mushy peas. The service was excellent, Tina was the waitress, she was very attentive and helpful. The mushy peas tasted lovely, lattes were very good, chips great and the fish was massive!!!! We couldn't eat it all, but it was cooked perfectly. The only letdown was that it lacked the personal touch when you had to queue to pay? It would have been better to have paid at the table.

A regular venue that always delivers. A small issue with service re forgotten starters, but they were very busy. Not a big thing.

Gave it a try on the way home from holiday. Ordered the Big Un and somehow managed to finish it. Fish was excellent quality, beef dripping fried. It was just done properly really. I was shocked by how good it was to be honest and I'm not the easiest person to impress. I would say the big portion is obscenely big and the standard portion is also a big piece of fish so bare that in mind. No complaints from me though, but I'll have to run 3 marathons to burn all that off.

Got the large cod it was huge batter was crispy all round mushy peas were perfect as we're the chips quite expensive but worth every penny real friendly staff

Great! Caters for some dietary preferences.... e.g. Vegetable oil, gluten free.... but. The beef dripping is far superior and the quality of the fish & chips is worth every penny!

The food was really nice, however my husband is disabled and in a wheelchair. We were asked to wait to see if we could be squeezed in, the restaurant were only a quarter full, we were sat with my husband facing the wall with the whole row of seats to ourselves, the women moved a chair and walked away not speaking to us, again that's fine, we ordered the food my husband takes a little longer to eat and I cut up he's food (very discreetly) he's sits still, he's not loud, he doesn't shake or disturb anyone, I hold his straw so he can get a drink, he has a muscle wasting disease and is too weak to hold a hot drink alone hence the straw. The waiter came to our table 3 times to see if we had finished, they avoided all eye contact when I tried to get the attention for a desert even hold the large menu in my hand, it felt like they wanted us out Asap the looks we were giving were uncalled for if they don't want disabled people in their restaurant they should say so, but to make them feel so bad for a something they can't control is appalling, he's still a human being, we eaten out in many places that really try to cater for my husband but this restaurant definitely made him feel so self conscious. We definitely will not be returning.

Best chippy in Yorkshire. Fried in authentic beef dripping, and has an unreal taste. I do recommend getting the take away instead, as eating it this way is a whole different experience.

Arrived just before closing time. Ate our meal in the car park. ( We did not get ushered out) The taste was good. Good size portion I will definitely visit again the next time I am collecting or dropping off and have time...

It's a large sit in chippy, extremely busy for a Wednesday evening, quick efficient service, hot food and plenty of it. Very traditional. Majority of customers older generation, as are we. For what it is you can't fault it.

The best fish and chips around.. Melt in the mouth batter, gorgeous white haddock and golden chips.. It takes a lot of willpower not to visit more often The only negative is the billing system, no prices on your bill and so no way of checking that it is correct. Proves a bit tricky if a few of us go too

Food was great! Can't fault it! Only criticism was that there are too many tables packed together. Felt like I was joining another family for lunch!

Fastest service ever, for my fish & chips yesterday

I ordered the "big one", a giant fish but unfortunately was terribly overcooked and virtually inedible, the fish was tough and luke shredded string. Admittedly they replaced it without question but I was shocked that a place like this could get a piece of fish so wrong. Tge replacement was OK but nothing special. My local in morecambe is far better

A must visit MECCA for the fish and chip lover, portion sizes to suit all appetites. Top quality fish cooked to perfection with proper chips and real mushy peas. Staff very polite helpful and friendly. Very clean all on one level, plenty of car parking. Will return soon.

just went to the takeaway ask for a chip butty, bread cake was seperate so had to make it myself outside. Seemed to be four staff behind counter all looking glum and not doing much. Chips were okay, bread cake was a bit dry

Absolutely fantastic: staff, service & food. Had a regular haddock, chips & mushy peas, with bread a butter. I failed to finish as regular haddock was the size of a 'whale' on the plate. The batter was wonderfully crispy ,& not oily. The mushy peas texture was perfect & tasted as my great aunt made. Yes, even at 11:45 we had to queue, but well worth the 15 minute wait to be seated. By 12:30 the queue was outside & around the building - shows how good Muratroyds is! Next time we will definitely book (seems you can). We weren't flying (the air is minutes away) but we learnt if you have a boarding pass there is a discount!

I've been wanting to go for over 2 years so me and the Mrs were off work so we decided to go it was over 70 miles but I was hoping it was worth the wait and drive well....it was unbelievable the batter was crisp and the chips were amazing wow is All we could say I had the Big un a massive haddock thank you it was worth the wait

If you want high quality fish & chips and in a restaurant, this is it. We went close after lunch time so it was rather busy. We did however got a table immediately and have been served quickly as well by friendly staff. Had fried mushrooms for starters and small fish and chips which is really decent meal. Saw the big one and felt this was more a challenge to finish. Fish was absolutely great and chips as well. Not soggy. We were offered additional condiments and all in all the experience was great. Price is of course a bit higher than a normal fish & chip shop but it was absolutely worth it.

Outstanding. The best fish & chips. The food is very high quality, fresh and well cooked, hence the long queue which totally worth it and only takes 10mins max wait. There are variety of main and side dishes to select. Lots of indoor and outdoors seats. Plenty of parking spaces and is accessible. Highly recommend it.

We dined in after watching a review on Instagram..other than being stared at the whole experience was great!

Delicious fish (chips were a bit dry) but still enjoyed our tea. They do a very good value 3 course meal for people 60 and over for £15.50. We went on a Sunday tea time so it was very busy. We queued for half an hour. Better to book as people who had were taken past us to their table first. Very polite and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and visit again ourselves but we'll book in advance next time.

We had to wait about 20 minutes to get in. Which means, how popular and how good the food is.

This place is an INSTITUTION. What a place. I mean WOW. Among the best and certainly biggest fish and chips on earth. Expect a line for the restaurant, in which case there is a takeaway if you prefer to sit outside on a sunny day or else take home.

It's always excellent food at murgatroyds I always have the whale 🐋 lol 🤣 Cheers Duncan and Helen
