Mum's Cafe in Christchurch

Amazing home cooked food, incredible value. I do not know how they do it but this place beats any gastro pub far and wide. Incredibly good. My wife wanted to take Mike the chef home!

Asked for a cappuccino with no chocolate, but received a milky coffee with chocolate on it! I was told that I should have specified! Asked for no black pudding, but received black pudding! Asked for toast for myself and my friend. It all came on one plate! I know it wasn't expensive, but that shouldn't mean low quality service. The food was actually not too bad, albeit not very hot.

We came across this café when at a nearby shop. What a find! Lovely friendly welcome. Prompt service, and fantastic toasties. No supermarket sliced bread here, and plenty of filling.

We failed to make a reservation on a busy Saturday morning but we were given a table very quickly. Both our breakfasts were superb as were the Coffees. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. 10/10 Mums cafe

What a fabulous cafe ,7 of us went on our way home to the Isle of Wight from Lanzarote ,the lady is lovely,fun ,such a character,as for the food absolutely delicious ,perfect poached eggs ,lovely fresh thick bread and reasonable priced ,will definitely be back next time we fly from Bournemouth 😊

Car was in for service, mum cafe recommended… had the big breakfast, freshly cooked, all hot and great quality… how a breakfast should be…. If you haven’t been your missing out

Visited due to high ranking on here. Didn't think it was worth the ranking. It is a noisy cafe which I don't particularly like. Radio loud with staff singing away. Breakfast was Ok but eggs were not a good standard. There are better cafe's around.

Excellent specials and breakfast, friendly staff delivering a quick knowledgeable service. They get very busy but always manage to find us a seat. Also do take away

13-3-2024 my wife and I were travelling to our accommodation in Winkton Dorset, and decided to eat in Mums Cafe, the staff were very friendly and the food was very nice and reasonably priced and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Dorset, I would definitely visit again if down this way.

Popped in for an all day breakfast. Great cup of tea to welcome as we sat down followed by two buttered doorstep toast slices and the breakfast was really good. Excellent bacon and sausage. The black pudding was a good inclusion with a half slice of fried bread. Fully recommend.

I was in Christchurch after dropping a passenger off and stopped at this wonderful little cafe. A great buzz of chitter chatter when you step in. Took my seat and was immediately kept busy by reading all the little plaques on the walls, with quotes and one-line jokes. I was served by the lady owner (I think) very promptly and my breakfast was delivered freshly and beautifully cooked. When paying, the same lady gave me a flyer and said I could phone in advance to book a table and even order my breakfast, so it would be ready when I arrived! Highly recommend.

Hard to fault, breakfast was delicious as usual. Food was well cooked and service prompt and efficient.

We live local and have been twice now. Such good value, first class breakfast with a very warm welcome from all the staff. Highly recommend 😊

Excellent. Everything spot on. Breakfast was best we have eaten. The toast could have been a meal in itself, offering lovely thick white or brown seeded bread. The full English breakfast was superb with good quality ingredients. Highly recommend to try ypu will definitely not be disappointed. Also the rang of food was vast. After passing by for years we were advised to have a meal there,wow were we glad we did,excellent meals(visited three times)which were well cooked with nice vegetables and even though my wife almost had a mocha and not a drinking chocolate,the lady will know who we are now,lol,it was a pleasure being there,many thanks,see you in October God willing...

What a wonderful place. I have been with my family and was very busy but quickly the team found us a beautiful table. Service are TOP, food was delicious and the team very friendly. I can’t wait to visit Mum’s Café again on my next holiday. My children can’t stop talk about the friendly lady that manage to keep them happy with the children's menu and fun treats. I was very disappointed the owner was rude and said something to another customer about us so we did not bother staying which was a shame as previously had good experience and the food is very good here

From my 13 year old son…… The food was good, came quickly, great atmosphere, and if we lived here he would come every day. This isn’t your average cafe. Can’t recommend it enough.

Visited this wonderful place last week and was not disappointed. This in some ways looks like a typical builders cafe but is actually more like the “Michelin” version, due to the great service, attentive staff and not to forget the fantastic food……you lucky, lucky builders....

We go to mums every so often, wouldn’t consider ourselves regulars yet! But; mum is always so welcoming and always remembers our orders! Even when they are busy they always accommodate us and make room! Fantastic service which you will not receive anywhere else in...

I never bother to cook lunch anymore. I simply goto Mum's for an excellent assorted choice of good home-cooked food. Why go anywhere else in Christchurch?

This quite simply has to be the best place for breakfast in Dorset. Fantastic food. Brilliant service and great value. Always busy and you can see why. The only slightly odd thing we found was a couple of dark chocolate bounty bars on the shelf??????

We have not been back here since last September on my birthday because of the covid shut downs and also not being able to travel, this was our 1st trip to Christchurch and this was the 1st place we thought of coming to for breakfast, we have lovely takeaway it was well worth the wait, thank you mums

Like all eateries currently, it's not possible to chill and eat in Mum's Café...so I called in this morning for a takeaway brunch: a totally delicious bacon sandwich and a black coffee. £5.30 - as good as you'll find anywhere.As ever, the welcome and service was naturally warm and friendly.Thanks guys!

Such a delightful establishment. Myself and my partner popped in for a brunch and we couldn’t have been more impressed. The service was 10/10, as was the food. The atmosphere in this little cafe was just right and we enjoyed every minute.

Couldn’t face a cold co-op sandwich and was passing by so popped into this delightful cafe. The lady who served me was so friendly and I was offered hand sanitiser straight away. My details were taken for track and trace and the cafe was spotless. But most importantly the food was amazing. I didn’t think you could rave over a toasted sandwich but boy was this a good one! Service of the very best. Couldn’t fault it. Will have to rerun with the family to sample more.

We found this cafe by chance last week whilst on holiday and I'm so glad we did. There are blackboards all over the cafe, with some inspiring and often cheeky sayings on them. Our order was taken very quickly by, I assume, "Mum" and she was certainly able to give as much as she got from my cheeky husband!! Our food came very quickly and my vegetarian option was great - we both loved the bubble & squeak the most. Quick service, reasonably priced and very tasty. What more could you want?

Visited here with friends and loved the experience. They provide a really good breakfast tailored to your needs. Good coffee too and very pleasant staff. Other (non breakfast) dishes on the menu look really good. The staff take pride in looking after you. Well worth a visit!

Found this place by accident.Ordered coffee, fruit juice and full English from a friendly waitress. Coffee came quickly and was a good one. Breakfast was served freshly cooked and it was fabulous. Had a second cup of coffee. I liked this place, friendly staff, good vibe, good food. Will go again!

Tried to go a few times but always seem to drive past when us closed lol. Work gets in the way of good food at times! Finlay made it and had a full traditional fry up with my son. It was worth waiting for! Especially of note was the thick cut (hand cut) toast, smothered in butter. Yummy.

The full english breakfast here is delicious and can be tailored to your own personal requirements. They use better quality ingredients than some other cafe. I love the thick and crusty toast, spread with real butter. It's a busy and popular cafe but the staff are always accommodating and will fit you in and greet you with a smile.

Thank you all for a lovely breakfast this morning. I came in with my daughter, who is veggie, and was very pleased that you served a good veggie breakfast along with a hearty non veggie for me.

Had excellent freshly cooked breakfasts here on a number of occasions and today had an excellent lunch too. Real value for money, lovely food, great fresh 'doorstops' of bread or toast, buzzing atmosphere, really hard working, friendly staff. The kitchen is part of the main cafe so you can see the food being cooked. This is without doubt the best cafe you could ask for. Shame they're no longer open for Sunday lunches.

Hands down best place , one of the only places that do fried bread and potatoes with your breakfast . For the Big one it’s only 6.10 but u can get a very reasonable brekkie for under a 5er bargain!

We stopped off at Mum's Cafe for breakfast. I had the large breakfast and my wife had the small breakfast. We thought the quality and price was excellent. Good quality ingredients, all freshly cooked to order. We like the fact that the tea is included in the cost of the meal. I especially liked the choice of fried potatoes or bubble n squeak with the main meal. Decent quality bread for the toast too. The cafe itself was neat and tidy. And very clean. The lunchtime menu looked good as well. Nice friendly couple running it. To sum up, this is an excellent cafe. We will definitely return when we are back in the area.

My partner is veggie. I'm not but I am a great chef and this cafe was a blessed relief, excellent service, perfect food - can't fault it... they should run the country. Service with smile, quickest coffee in the history of entering a restaurant. Greeted on the door, made to feel special. This is how to do it.

Visit here regularly, food is exactly as you request, which is a big plus. Good atmosphere; Kind and friendly. Food is of a high standard and all freshly cooked to your taste. The Breakfasts are substantial and again all as requested. Will continue to visit as there is nowhere quite like it in the Christchurch area. Parking outside is normally pretty good and in the better weather there outside tables.

On the recommendation of friends, we visited Mum’s. What a gem of a place. Hipsters beware - here you will find no smashed avocados, sourdough bread or pumpkin seeds, nor any WiFi. However you will find excellent food. All cooked to order, served so pleasantly, with large mugs of tea or coffee, at a very reasonable price. A special mention to the toast, made with freshly cut bread and spread with real butter. Absolute comfort food, literally just like my Mum used to make it. Wonderful. If I lived nearby I would go there just for the toast.

popped in at lunchtime , checked out the special board and we were recommended to have the lamb hotpot and mince and onion pie , so after checking the menu and a steaming mug of tea and coffee we went for the above !! home cooked stunning taste , really good , my wife had the lamb and cleared the plate with glee, pudding was home made apple pie and custard, we talked about the meal on the way home it was so good , visit again yes and yes staff really good and the boss lady attentive and spent time with us , all i can say is visit and enjoy value for money excellent ,

Little to add to what others have said - quirky decor - no wi-fi (thank goodness) - brilliant breakfast and amazingly good value for money. No - make that astounding rather than amazing! Just a footnote - I think this was my father's shop about 60 years ago. If so he would approve of the new ownership too!

Nearlly 20yrs we have been going to Bournemouth 3/4 times a year and we have only just found this 'gold mine'.

Visited on Saturday with my son as had been wanting to visit for sometime...work just gets in the way! 2 big breakfasts (£5.90) were enjoyed with some lovely thick hand cut bread- proper bread, not the usual cheap ‘plastic’ stuff you tend to get. Very busy so I can see why people book! Lovely friendly staff too. Lovely to see an ‘open’ kitchen to. Brilliant.
