Young staff kept forgetting drinks orders. The chicken tikka in a mixed grill looks and tasted nothing like chicken, more like something ready made from Iceland (the shop).Lamb chops as tough as leather. Shish kebab, just a greasy, rubbery piece of rubber tube. Very disappointing!

This was my first time visiting this place after wanting to try it for ages but just never got round to it. We went at half six so during happy hour and it's £11 for 4 courses and yes as pointed out below you will probably end up paying £13 or £14 once you have upgraded ur items should you wish. The food was very nice and flavoursome and we all had a very enjoyable meal here and would return, cost was just shy of £80 for 4 people with 2 drinks each.

Hartlepool does pretty well for Indian restaurants, there's plenty of them and they all offer above average Indian food, this is the first time I have been to Mumbai and I can quite categorically state that it will not be the last. They offer a wide variety of dishes, a lot of which I had never heard of along with plenty of the old favourites that can be found in most curry houses. Its comfortable, the staff are polite and attentive and the service is great - most importantly the food is delicious and among the best Indian food I have ever tasted anywhere! I cannot really find fault with anything, so I won't even try to - well done Mumbai, see you soon!

Visited on a Saturday evening. Arrived at about 6.30pm, six of us including 2 elderly diners. Realised that we were in time for the 4 courses for £10.95 so we all agreed we would try that.We ordered drinks in the waiting area and have to say we were all very comfortable there but we had menus thrust upon us straight away which we did not appreciate. We were then encouraged to go to our table so we did but we felt we were being rushed.Maybe the staff were just concerned we would miss the specials cut off time.Anyway the restaurant is lovely, very well done out.We had been advised by a family member to try the prawn cocktail starter so five of us did. All gave it the thumbs up, one saying it was the best he'd ever had. It was big.I had sheesh kebab ... Lovely. We then had our mains and all were very good. My madras was actually hotter than I like even though I've had madras here before. Chicken Korai was raved about.Waiters were on the ball, beers and wine were nice. The restaurant was half full, ambience was very nice. It's very good, give it a visit.

The food was very good. The "green" Chicken Tikka was (despite its unusual appearance) very tasty and the Lamb (Hyderabadi Sarkar) was absolutely excellent. However some of the staff antics were not in the same league as the food quality in the restaurant. The actual 'waiter' service was fine but part way through my meal, at about 10:30pm (despite being told the restaurant was serving until 11 p.m), they were hoovering up around me. At one stage, I had to ask the waiter to stop hoovering when he came within about a metre of me just as my main course arrived. He then retreated for a while but then started mopping floors (At least that was quieter but still concerning because of the slip hazard). Then one waiter who was on hoovering duties kept popping his head round the parapet every few minutes to check if I had finished my food so he could start again. In summary 5 star food and in general, 4 star "waiter" service. HOWEVER when cleaning procedures during service hours are taken into account, one star for the overall service package!...Come on management of this restaurant please and sure if you want to keep your reputation as being a high class restaurant that you need to ensure that staff do not start cleaning up half an hour before the end of serving time.

I've been meaning to come to the Mumbai for months. I suggested it to colleagues for our evening out and we were not disappointed. The starters were perfectly cooked, I had the paneer, which had a definite spicy slow burn to it. I followed it with the keralan fish curry which came with rice and we had a side order of peshwari nan. The food was beautifully presented, hot, perfectly cooked and tasted divine. Every bite was savoured. I could have happily dined on the peshwari nan alone. The service was excellent.

This led us to try the house specials and we were not disappointed they were quite stunning, the chicken and lamb dishes with crispy spinach were possibly some of the best dishes we had ever tasted with a perfect balance of dryness in the consistency. 02-03-2016 ....8:05pm......Just come back from trying Mumbai Majestic for the first time.We decided to see what the 4 course special was like for £10.95 and we were not disappointed! The wife's chicken Tikka starter was bright green-very unusual and the taste fantastic. I asked the manager where the color came from and it was from a chef that used to work for them a very interesting concoction! My Bhuna prawn starter came with 4 mini puri and was very tasty served with salad and a mint sambal.Mains were a chicken tikka balti medium hot which the wife demolished and said was spot on where I had the lamb madras hot which was borderline a bit hotter than I would normally go for but there was so much flavor it was not an issue. The lamb was exceptionally tender as well. This was served with a peshwari naan, a keema naan and a couple of little frying pan pots filled with very colorful pilau rice.We did manage to finish it but the portions were a good size and probably more food than we would normally order but we were famished. They serve Cobra beer on draft in proper Cobra glasses. House wine is reasonably priced.Service was very snappy and the staff very attentive but not hovering over you. 2 very large groups of 20+ arrived while we were sat down and the restaurant had a lively atmosphere.10 out of 10 Mumbai!Pricing was just under £40 with 2 pints of cobra, glass of red and a coffee so there are lower cost Indian restaurants in the town but in my opinion this is better value due to the higher quality food, very comfortable surroundings, good service and it is one of the few remaining Indian restaurants in Hartlepool which still serve alcohol. We will be back again - the manager explained that they have an extensive fish menu and can offer Indian style fish curry's using salmon, flounder, monk fish etc. He also recommended that I try some of the various lamb dishes as their butchered lamb is trimmed very lean and is cooked exceptionally tender - I can vouch for that!I should have taken some photographs but we had attacked the food before I could get the phone out. Next time!OK time for a warm blanket and a snooze...................very nice indeed.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening for a couples night out. The service was slow, drinks n food orders taken separately although we were ready to order together very quickly after arriving. The poppadoms were of poor standard served with 3 small portions of watery dips. The main meal took 90 mins from ordering to arrive -after we had asked a number of times how long would it be. Food unfortunately let us down from the poppadoms arriving (3 different very weak, runny, TINY dipping pots to go between 6 poppadoms) Starters terrible - samosas, shesk kebab & the green chicken. Main dishes - mine a lamb balti- too dry, lamb dry as a bone, dish not enough flavour. My husband chose the shri lanka which was the best of the bad 3 but poor. My mums was the worst which was the Korai - she said it had no taste and when we tasted it we agreed, it was a colourful dish that tasted of zero. Nan bread Garlic- Where was the garlic??..Sadly we won't be returning, a shame as I liked the inside of this resturant and the staff were polite.

Being based ion Hartlepool's premier hotel the drinks are a little expensive but not hugely more than most restaurants.Due to the number of people we all had the £10.95 menu which had a good choice of starters and mains and included a rice and naan bread. The portions were generous and the food was very good, all in all a good experience.I did read the menu and compared to other Indian restaurants in the area the main courses are considerable more expensive if you go a la carte. The restaurant promises a new 'fusion' on Indian food and it goes part of the way to doing that. The starters were good and I enjoyed the sheek kebab, which was lighter and more subtle than usual. However the mains were a return the heavy sauces that typify much Indian food. I had something new, which I cannot recall but which was not described as unbearably hot as it turned out. I like Madras but this was hotter than your average Madras and was unfinishable. I had heartburn all night so won't be going back in a hurry.

Visited Mumbai at the weekend and, once again, the standard of the food was second to none. We've eaten at most of the other establishments in Hartlepool that are rated above Mumbai on trip advisor and none of them come close in terms of quality and service. Must be one of the top restaurants in the north east. I really can't understand some of the negative comments on here; if you want huge portions of sub standard Indian food swimming in grease then Mumbai isn't for you. After hearing many good reviews about this place I was excited to try as Indian food is my favourite. Opted for the 4 course special, we paid for poppadoms and pickles on top, there was only a choice of 3 pickles, that was disappointing as other Indians you get a choice from about 5. I got a chicken tikka starter and it was green! I'm assuming it's something they marinade the chicken in, it was absolutely gorgeous, probably the best part of the meal. I always order a madras but this one was just way too hot, it was more like a vindaloo, although the chicken was very tender, they forgot our chips and when they did bring them they weren't up to much, looked like crinkle cut micro chips, not the usual chunky Indian chips. The naan bread was very thin and cut up into triangles. I think I'll stick to my usual Indian next time

The food is ok but nothing special. We had a papadum to start and the accompaniments were very ordinary - the usual bottled mango chutney and minted yoghurt. For mains i tried the tandoori chicken as they supposedly have a clay tandoori oven. I was very disappointed, the chicken was dry and lacking the tandoori flavour. The veg under the chicken was flecked with sliced lemon , the bitterness made it just about impossible to eat. The tandoori roti was dry and cardboard like. The other meals were ok but everyone said they were no better than other places in town. Overpriced for what is on offer.

Read so much on hear about this place, was really looking forward to trying it out as we are contractors working in Hartlepool. Opted to go during happy hour 4 course meal. Was shocked to find Popadoms were not included and had to pay extra. The pickle tray wasn't upto much and no lime pickle. Naan breads came in pizza slices . Main wasn't too bad. The whole experience felt very rushed as though they wanted you in and out ASAP.. will not be going back

During a trip to Hartlepool I stayed at the grand hotel and thought id try Mumbai restaurant whilst there, OMG the food there is amazing, I stayed for 4 nights and ate in mumbai's every night, the waiters chose my food for me, a house specials. This is the best Indian restaurant in the north east, in fact it's the best Indian food I've ever ate. They do a happy hour from 5pm - 7pm also if your on a budget. The staff are very welcoming and will do everything to make your visit special, I wish I lived closer as this would soon be my most visited restaurant.Great value for money, fantastic food, good selection of drinks and friendly staff... What more can you ask for.Definitely worth a visit when ever your in Hartlepool. The grand hotel has got a winner there.

By far the best Indian Restaurant in Hartlepool. The food is just that touch above the rest. The staff are very polite and you can see the owner takes pride in the whole place. We even got some drinks on the house after our meal. Would highly recommended.

We decided to visit here for the first time and it was amazing, the happy hour offer meant the price was great, the staff and service spot on and exceptional quality. I am not surprised as I was at the opening of the first Mumbai restaurant at Haswell Plough. This place is a must

I was in the area for a few days and ate here on my first night. I was so impressed with the service and standard of food that I booked in again before I left town. Along with your standard Indian fare there are some great, slightly more authentic dishes. Tandoori prawns were a standout dish. The bill came to 70 pounds for four of us including pre-dinner drinks and wine. Loved it, can't wait to go back.

A group of 10 of us went to Mumbai for my wife's 35th (ahem) birthday last night. Glad we pre-booked as the place was absolutely heaving all night. We all went for the Happy Hour deal £10.95 for 4 courses, and of course had to have a few drinks along the way. Samosa's to start were nice and crisp, and had a hint of spice in them, then I went for my favourite, Rogan Josh, which is the dish I measure all Indian Restaurants on......Possibly the best one I've ever had......Everyone basically said it was one of the best Indian meals they had had, even my parents who live in Oldham and to quote my Dad..."I know a good Indian when I've had one....."Possibly, no probably the Best Indian Restaurant in Hartlepool???

my daughters birthday and we booked a table for 10 for 18.45 at the Mumbai Indian restaurant in the Grand hotel in Hartlepool. I had heard some good reports about it but wasn't prepared for the most excellent evening that was there for us! Firstly, the greeting we received was very warming and by smiling faces and so we were already prepared to have a nice night. The service was excellent and very efficient and we did not have to wait any length of time to give our orders. The food was, quite simply, delicious . Even though the staff was efficient at no time did we feel rushed and was really a dining experience. Well done to the maitre d' and his superb staff for making my daughters birthday meal such a pleasant time. Needless to say I will, most certainly, gracing the Mumbai with my presence again in the near future.

Having eaten at most of the Indian restaurants in the town I thought i'd try this one for a change as it seemed to be getting very good reviewswell what can I say, everything about it was excellent from the presentation to service to the food everything was superb.only comment I would make is there are a lot of dishes on the menu with no guide to how hot they may be, the dish I ordered was one i'd not heard of before and turned out to be eye watering hot , fortunately I like a hot curry so wasn't a problem but just a warning to maybe ask before you order :)didn't think I'd find a new favourite indian but this may be it :)

Been twice so far but plan on going this weekend. First time I was there early evening and waited in the bar area for my partner to arrive, all the staff said hello/good evening when they came through while I waited. The friendliness and service continued through the meal. All the staff were friendly and professional while the atmosphere is relaxing. We went again with my mum and she loved it and loved the fuss the owner made of her too! The food is very "clean" in that you can see what you are eating, it's all very fresh, the main courses were all lovely, the naan bread is the best I've ever tasted - I don't usually eat it because I find it bloats you, but not theirs. Everywhere looks spotless. My only very slight criticism is that some of the starters tasted slightly bland. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I came here for dinner while staying in the hotel above, and in I have to say the meal was absolutely superb. I had the mixed starter which consisted of "green" chicken tikka, seekh kebab and lamb chop. It was cooked to perfection. The main course of Hyderabadi Sarkar, a mixture of really tender lamb and spinach, topped with crispy spinach. I have to say it is one of the best indian main meals I have had and I am very discerning about Indian cooking. I also had mixed naan and that was also very nice. The service from the staff was also excellent and the decor and setting, very nice. In summary, this is the best Indian meal I have had in any restaurant, north of Manchester and I will definately be visiting again, next time I am in Hartlepool. Very highly recommended.

I have been here numerous times and this restaurant never fails to impress. The food is amazing, I've tried numerous dishes and each time they are always very tasty and beautifully presented. The chef specials are particularly very good. The service is always fantastic, very helpful and knowledgeable (without smoothering). I was sceptical before visiting becuase of its location (previous restaurants in this location had been awful) and becuase of the cheap early bird menu; I will happily admit I had no need to worry. Even though its got a lot of good competetion in this town, Mumbai really does stand out. I highly reccomend this place.

One of the best, if not THE best Indian restaurant I've been to outside of India. Try the muligathani soup, the lamb chops are particularly delicious & the king prawn starter was equally enjoyable. Coupled with experienced, helpful, friendly & knowledgable staff makes this a place to have a good evening (or lunch) experience. I'll certainly be back !!

Me and the wife visited again after the football on Saturday, this is about the six or seventh time we've been now. Every single time without fail we have been over the moon with whatever dish has been served and have come away waxing lyrical about Mumbai, there aren't enough superlatives for the level of service or the standard of food on offer. If you like Indian food then this is the place for you, you'll never want to eat at another Indian restaurant again!Well done Mumbai, keep up the good work.

I have been hearing about this place from friends for a while now and everyone was raving about the food.As a big fan of Indian cuisine I finally took this on and can say I was not dissapointed, it was excellent. The food is possibly the best I have had and I eat Indian a lot, at good places, as I live in manchester with plenty of great choice.Everything was freshly prepared with amazing flavours.Almost as impressive as the food and flavours was the work put in by the staff, they were nothing short of excellent. I attended with a friend who had his small child in tow and the waiting staff couldn't do enough to accommodate everyone. Will defo be back and would recommend whole heartedly to anyone after superb food in a lovely setting, the staff will look after you no doubt about it!

This is up there in the Premier League of 'curry houses'. It is definitely at the higher end of quality. They have the best starters I have tasted and imaginative main dishes. Service and Staff - pleasant ,friendly & attentive , Value - early evening menu is great value , though the main menu options are quiet tempting , definitely worth other visits, Ambience/Atmosphere - very modern , bang up to date, ultra modern Tableware ect. someone has gone to a great deal of trouble to set up & maintain restaurant's standards.
