Mumbai Chilli in Derby

REALLY let down and disappointed by this restaurant. Our booking for June 2023 was cancelled as we were told they were having alterations done. However, there are no notices to this effect on the door and it looks completely closed down. If this is the case, why haven't they made this known, instead of letting it appear online that they are still trading, even giving 'opening' times!! We used to love going there as it was an excellent restaurant but they obviously don't care about their customers, past or future.

Butter chicken was good. Kadai paneer ,taste wise good .but too spicy.....but tandoori roti that was soo hard...we can't eat that .so made homemade roti for all

I would strongly suggest you take a visit to this restaurant. If you really want to try some great North Indian dishes then go for it. The taste is immaculate because of their chef. The owner is really nice to you and has good customer service skills! This place is good for 2/4/6 or more people to go together as friends, family or for couples. The spice level can be tolerated to your wish. Overall the dishes are amazing and you’d not regret it.

Possibly the best meal ever. Bhaji to start, fish curry main course. The sauce was out of this world. Owner and son very friendly and chatty. Very clean.

Lamb Kharahi ordered could only taste red chilli powder. I would have made a better dish. It appear the chef thought he was cooking for a European pallet. There was no other taste than full of red chilli powder. Really disappointed. I hope the owners will read this and enquire as I have saved some of the curry if they want to taste and reflect on what they had prepared…..remember we payed the exact price for this food. I am aware they are a family business so will give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I was up in derbyshire after visiting a friend of mine and was craving indian food. I looked up the directory and found this gem. The service was lovely, a young gentleman (sanjib) was very attentive and catered to my needs to make the food spicier than normal - i do love a bit of spice. I ordered a variety of things including: the Mango Lassi, Prawn Hottey Shottey, Garlic crispy chilli chicken. I also ordered prawn puri, lamb korma, peshwari naan and pilau rice for takeaway. Nowadays a lot of places i visit water down their flavours to cater towards a milder western pallete. With this restaurant, i did not feel that was the case. If i am ever in Derby again, i shall be making another pitstop! I was very hungry and so my photographs arent the best. But it should speak volumes about how quickly i scoffed it down. The food here was amazing. The balance between spice, chillies and flavour was great! Best thing about this place is, if you’d like your curries with a bit more spice, then do ask to adjust! I had the korma, prawn puri and other starters which were all amazing. It’s worth visiting this place purely for the service alone. They were all friendly and were there whenever i requested anything. I wouldn’t go anywhere else in Derby to have their food. I will only ever visit this place if i wanted authentic tasting food. Their lassis are home made and taste great, i had the classic mango and it hit the right spot. Do try their starters too - i wish i had more time to try all of them but, I recommend their prawn Hotty shatty amongst other things! Do visit this place if you’re in Derby, otherwise you’ll be missing out!

Popped out for a meal on a hot evening, the restraunt was lovely and cool and the food very tasty. Onion bhaji followed by Prawn Achari, both superb, washed down with a cold Cobra. Perfect

Super calm environment. Attentive waiter and great service throughout. Lovely range of food to choose from, be you meat-eater or vegetarian ... they suit all needs. Recommend the Cheese, Garlic and Coriander Naan... not in the menu, but they obliged is anyway!

Food ordered at 6.38. Text received at 6.45 saying it was on the way. It's estimated delivery time was 7.50. phoned the at 8.20 to ask where it was no real answer give apart from it would be a further 40 to 50 mins ! This then changed to 20 mins. Food arrived after 9.30 and was one level above cold . . Not a good experience at all . We eventually got through to just eat complaints - this took 2 attempts and was over a 15 min wait the first time and pretty similar the second time when we got through . Just not a good experience at all and to be honest spoilt the evening.

top quality restaurant , always very tasty

We have been to a number of other Indian restaurants over the years but nothing ever beats Mumbai Chilli. The food is another level!! The starters are all delicious, especially the fish cutlets, onion bajis and prawn puri. The naans are super fresh and tasty...

Unbeatable Indian cuisine. We often dine at Mumbai Chilli and are always greeted with a warm welcome and outstanding food. Chicken tikka butter masala and lamb saag are personal favourites. A+

We have been customers of this great little Indian restaurant for years now. The food is always first class- and the service always very friendly and very reasonably priced. Without doubt the best Indian food in Derby. Go - you won’t be disappointed

The food at this small village restaurant was excellent and good value - we had a lovely family meal.

The food was stale.. I think old food was delivered n the food was notup to Mumbai chillis usual standards. Disappointed

This was our third visit tonite is as many months, but am amazed by the incredible freshness and quality of the food. Two more than worthy dishes has to be the Lemon Rice and Chicken Red Curry, plus anything with King Prawns. The rice is my star dish as i love curry leaves and onion seed. Chicken Red was divine with the heat and coconut milk. The missus have King Prawn Bhuna which was full and super fresh. Nana bread is as fresh as you like, always have the Butter Nan too. Overall and by a long way our favourit curry houser in Derby. Forget the overpriced Shalimar Gold, Viceroy and Anoke......Mumbai Chilli offer fine dining quality and service at takeaway prices (an no, im not on the payrole, but appreciate exceptional quality).

we visited here with two friends and ordered a selection of dishes to share. It was all freshly cooked, lovely flavours and the portions were just right .The tandoori fish was superb, the veg dishes tasty and the nan breads spot on. We also tried for the first time the home made mango ice cream, ( kulfi) it was gorgeous and really refreshing after our meal. If you haven't tried dessert in an Indian restaurant before, this is the one. Although not in the city centre, it's well worth seeking out, the prices are sensible and defiantly worth it. A little gem .

Superb food, swift service, lovely decor and ambience, thoroughly recommended! Enjoyed their Tandoori Roti, a change from the usual Naan breads made with wholemeal flour.

We had a Groupon voucher and was a little concerned reading the reviews, but no need.

I visited over there once during around winter time with my family, my little one was bit hungry and due to that she was bit off the mood. Looking at this behavior of my little one the responsible person over there give us table at very far from others we did co-operate, but soon after few before we place any order he rudely asked us to leave the restaurant.

Awful experience. Bookings only made through Groupon.Booked table for 730pm. Called at lunch and bloke said come for 7pm. Upon arrival waiter who made out he was the manager was rude and argumentative saying must be here for 730pm as only have one chef and can't cope with demand. Onky 3 tabkes dining at the time

Never go to anywhere else for a curry! Food is always spot on and the servings are more than enough, and the set deal have a variety too. The food is super nice! And the driver is lovely :)

I went there Friday night with my family. 4 of us. 2 kids and 2 adults.

I rang and ordered the 'chefs specialiity crispy chilli paneer' as it says EXACTLY on their online menu. I rang them back again confirming the order within 5 minutes as I wanted to make sure they wouldnt make it too spicy. Unfortunately they delivered the wrong order. That was fine, I just rang the restaurant back to let them know. Instead the man on the phone would not stop laughing as it said it was ME who had ordered wrong (even though i read it out exactly as their menu said). He refused to change the order and laughed at me again when i told him he was being rude

Groupon offer, but I checked reviews first. The food was gorgeous, lovely fresh chicken and spices with no ghee floating on the surface. I had chicken madras and my husband had chicken balti, great dishes,flavourful with a nice heat. Staff were pleasant and welcoming,will definitely go back again.

My partner and I went here on Friday 18th Jan, early evening. We booked through the Groupon app, but also rang to confirm the booking too. I would advise this. We were the only ones in there, until about 7.30pm and then people kept steadily arriving.

Just had another excellent evening meal with friends at this great little restaurant. As usual there is a vast choice of food on the menu so we tucked into the poppadoms and pickles whilst we debated what to have. We tend to order four different starters and mains and swap and share. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavour. My chicken dish just melted in the mouth. All was helped down by a few cold glasses of Cobra. The meal for 4 including 2 courses, rice naan and a side with drinks came to just over £20 a head - really good value for what we had, Will certainly be returning again.

Visited on a Saturday early evening with a Groupon voucher. Booking on-line and arrival went well. Ordering took a while as the restaurant started to fill up. Just two visible staff who appeared stressed, seating people, taking orders, serving, payments etc. The phone was left to ring, so new custom or takeaway orders were being missed. Loooong wait for the food, but when it arrived - great, really good.

The starters are stunning, especially the fish dishes. They have a great selection of curry’s and are always really helpful when you ask for recommendations. Butter chicken and lamb saag is always a winner!! The vegetable dishes are all super tasty too, especially the Dahl Makhani. I would without a doubt recommend this place as it never disappoints!! Best curry ever!!!!

After booking a voucher for 4 people via Groupon we arrived at the restaurant to be told we did not have a booking. We got our phones out and showed our actual Groupon voucher on the app along with our email confirmation and were told they DID NOT have confirmation and weren't interested in whether we had a confirmation or not, we would not be eating there. The man was very rude and it was very embarrassing in front of the guests we had taken with us and other people in the restaurant. We then had to pay to eat at another restaurant even though we'd already bought and paid for a Groupon. WILL NEVER GO AGAIN

Our experience was great - from the moment we walked through the door. The service is pleasant and efficient but unobtrusive - you can quite happily sit there relaxing all evening. The food is excellent - piping hot and just the right amount. The bill is a most pleasant surprise as the price is so reasonable.

We were staying in Derby and fancied a curry. A quick look on TA pointed us towards the Mumbai chilli, about 15 minutes stroll away from our hotel.

A great night out with friends ... Mumbai Chilli provided a lovely atmosphere, great food and drink.

This is a great resteraunt. Fantastic food. I always rate a curry house by their poppadoms. ..These are crisp and fresh. The variety of menu is unusual and many dishes have an extra chilli hit. Not lots of ghee or oil but full on spicing and flavour. The tandoori is great. I think this little gem is the best in Derby...but the relationship between the owner and his main waiter is not for the faint hearted...be prepared for outbursts and heart felt expressions of employee dissatisfaction lol

Whenever I visit Derby to see my family I have to visit this place. The food is fabulous, and great value. Tonight we had onion bhaji, sheek kebab, and saffron chicken. Then chicken tikka, vegetable curry, and Mumbai potatoes, served with salad. We had nan breads which were light and fluffy. Fab flavours. Can't wait till next time. If I lived here I'd be there every week.
