I booked lunch for 7 people and 2 dogs, Judy and another member of staff were really helpful during the booking process. We were late arriving due to heavy traffic from Cornwall, 4 of the others arrived on time. When the staff knew that we would be arriving after the kitchen closed they offered to put some rolls aside for us. After a phone call asking what we wanted that was what they did. When we arrived we discovered that they were busy because there was a wedding at the church so we were even more grateful for our saved lunch. The service and food was amazing. Lovely pub, so quaint, we sat outside as it was dry and sunny and had church bells to listen to. Thank you Judy and all your staff, you started our holiday in Shropshire so well.

Such a beautiful pub in a lovely rural location.Drinks are well priced and the lunch was lovely and freshly made. However there is a sign outside stating that you have to wear a mask when inside the pub.The law is currently a personal choice wether to wear a mask or not.We have all been double vaccinated and I have also had covid and also have the antibodies. Therefore Iam not happy with having to wear a mask if it was law then of course I would.Other than the mask situation a lovely pub.

My partner and I loved visiting this quaint country pub. We enjoyed sitting by the open fire whilst taking in the pub's character. The staff were attentive and helpful. We ordered a homemade sausage roll (delicious) and homemade scotch egg (honey and mustard). The barman asked us if we would like the sausage roll warm which we found a really lovely touch and brilliant customer service. We will be returning many more times. It's a hidden gem and very unique!

Called in here on way home from Worcester. I used to stay here as a child 35 years ago when my parents used to stand in for owners when they went on holiday. The pub hasn’t changed a bit, still having the same country pub feel. We were made to feel very welcome by the barmaid. Would definitely recommend calling in if in the Worcester area.

Had heard this was a nice pub serving good food at a great price so went along. Set in a quiet part of Worcester surrounded by flowers and a church and graveyard couldn’t have been more serene. Menu is quite basic but ingredients fresh and tried the black pudding scotch egg absolutely delicious. Had egg and chips and ham egg chips 4 meals at £5.50 average. Food lovely service great might be called the mug house but left feeling smug at finding a great little place for me and the wife to visit.

Quaint little pub set in a beautifully picturesque country setting! Good selection of beers and food, poured and prepared by the incredibly friendly and welcoming owners and bar staff. If you are lucky you could be served by a young and talented barmaid named Rosie who is a bit of a local legend. Endearingly ditsy and always smiling. You will feel at home but you might also have your pint spilt in your lap. Hanging baskets out the front are stunning too! Would highly recommend!

The sort of place you wouldn’t know was there, the mug house is tucked away behind a hedge next with no roadside signage, which makes it unassuming and non-corporate or rowdy in feel. With views of the church next door and accross the fields it’s a lovely location and has an outdoor table area for good weather. Good real ales, an ok spirits selection and a kitch but relaxed interior this little spot is worth a visit. We didn’t have anything to eat but it looked like tasty pub grub rather than gastro, which is absolutely fine as long as you’re aware.

The room was large, clean and had everything you would expect in a room including excellent free wifi. A remarkable building and setting. Drinks not the cheapest, but the beer is kept perfectly and the feel of the place is truly spectacular. Be careful who you tell, or else everybody will want to go. Don't expect music, flashing machines, TVs, fancy meals, table cloths and children's play areas. Do expect perfectly kept beer, slightly wonky tables, food of a decent standard that is similar to the last time you went, a quirkiness that makes you smile and the kind of conversation that is in keeping with a traditional pub setting that is intimate, comforting and authentic.

The Mug House is a great traditional pub that also serves excellent lunchtime meals (as opposed to a restaurant that happens to sell beer!) It is perfectly charming and unique, old fashioned, and rustic. The beer is great and so is the food. I had the Oxford Gold but they also have some interesting guest ales too. The lunch menu is simple and wholesome. They do great sandwiches and pub grub: the egg and chips are superb, and everything is fresh and served with a smile. The Mug House is said to be the only pub in the country that is in a churchyard. It overlooks the beautiful Claines Church making it a superb place to sit outside on a summer's night. But the day I went it was chilly and frosty so we sat in the comfortable back room next to the roaring log fire, looking out across the fields and the Malvern Hills. Beer, egg and chips, good friends, wonderful views over English countryside and a fabulously warm and cosy pub. What more could you want. Looking forward to my next pint!

A little gem of a pub hidden away right next to St John Baptist church. We went on New Year's Eve as part of a mystery tour in and around Worcester. It looks like you are going into the vicarage as it is in the church grounds, that is until you see all the pub tables around the outside. There is a good selection of beers (although it is a tied house) and the staff were very friendly. The couple running it appear to have been there for a long time and the visitor books goes back years and covers countries from all over the world. Apparently they used to brew ale there and then sell it on to support the church restoration. There is a stone flagged bar area and then a larger room at the back that would be good for meals. No idea about the view as it was pitch black - will have to return.

Needed somewhere to meet a customer for a business lunch just off the M5 Worcester and this pub came up in the search. So glad I found it, what a gem. Great beer, really lovely plain home-cooked food (recommend the ham egg and chips, really fabulous), a locals place I'd say but we were made very welcome. There's a bar, a snug and a lounge, all with rustic charm, so don't go expecting plush pile under you feet. It's the sort of place you'd find with a great atmosphere on a cold winter's evening packed to the gunwales. If you're driving there, when you get to the church on Claines Lane, there is a narrow lane (not Cornmeadow Lane) before the church/war memorial cross as you approach with the church on your left. The pub is not signposted and you'll think you're driving down a private residential drive as facing you are some cottages. The pub is there behind the church.Very friendly owner and staff.Highly recommended.

Recommended by a friend for their ham egg and chips we have been several times well prepared and presented by a friendly lady from the kitchen. Mr grumpy is behind the bar and is the only source of any complaint which is his insistence on keeping his ice spoon in the ice bucket so transfering any germs from cash handling etc in to your drink. Well worth finding nice and cosy and hopefully after this review you'll even dare to have ice in your drink!

Very well kept beer, pleasant views over fields and colourful Begonias in many tubs outside this small, old pub make this an interesting place to have a drink. It is a lovely old 'black & white' building next to the churchyard fence of St. Johns Church in the ancient parish of Claines. I love the unchanged nature of the plain old public bar with its mounted fox heads and photos of generations of locals. A 2nd room is decorated with horsey and farming memorabilia and is where families can sit and the 3rd long room at the west (rear) of the pub overlooks Farmer Philips' fields with views of the sun setting in the west over the Malvern Hills 10 miles away. But go for a pint of Banks' Best Bitter!

Great little country pub, limited menu, but no problem as 80% of people order hand carved ham, egg and chips. Good range of beers. Good atmosphere in the two smaller bar rooms, bit impersonal if in the larger room - which is where they allow children. Open fire in colder weather, good outside seating in the summer. Beware if there is obviously a wedding on at the church next door - suddenly you can have 40+ people descending on the bar at the same time, which overloads it.

As a local my wife and I call in on the way home from our bike rides. The real ales are great with guest ales available and snacks like pork pie available. If you are in the area I suggest you call in. It's not posh but it's a little gem and I wouldn't change it.

This pub doesn't need to advertise. If you want an old English pub with character, good beer and great food then you will endeavour to find this place. It's just off the A449 at Claines and the pub has a real charm about it. Apparently it is the only pub in England on consecrated ground, but that aside it is quaint and the service is personal and friendly. We'll come back again.

I enjoyed a nice cold drink in the beautiful beer garden while the sun was shining. I will definitely be going back as the views were lovely, the pub was quaint and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

I used to use the Mug House regularly when I lived in the area but had not been back for over 15 yrs. Still being run by same people today. We decided to pop in for a drink whilst staying in the area for a wedding. Not disappointed. Still has all of it quirkiness and quaintness and the fact that it is one of only two pubs in the UK on consecrated ground makes it worth a visit alone. The beers are well kept although limited to Bank's Bitter and Mild. They are well kept and top quality ales. If you want to have a beer in a piece of history check out the Mug House. You might even get to meet one of the ghosts!!

The Mug House has no music and no games machines - bliss! The beers are excellent, food likewise, although not a vast selection and restricted from 12 noon to 2pm. That's fine, as what is available is freshly prepared and cooked. Welcoming in the winter with the open fires and it is also lovely to sit outside on a sunny day, admiring the hanging baskets and tubs which the pub is noted for. One of our regular haunts.

I went for a pub lunch here last week and will certainly go back. The location and pub itself are full of character and the staff are friendly. I ordered a ploughman's which was delicious. Well worth a visit!

Great ale, great setting. Loved it for a sunny afternoon beer. Sat outside amongst the flowers and watched people of all ages come and go - families, couples, cyclists, walkers etc. All seemed to enjoy the experience.
