I was very disappointed with Southend. For my birthday muffin. The boss usually lets me choice my muffin. The Chinese girl who served me. Was very rude. Would not listen to me. I had to settle. For a basic one. It used to be a great store. Spoke to Lukasz Iwanow from customer service. Was not help. Just said. The boss can provide. When it suits. No compensation I had been going there for years.

Popped in early Sunday, obviously very popular as busy at 9.05, great choice of cooked breakfasts, can recommend the classic breakfast and partner, the avocado smash. Great choice of pastries, baguettes etc. excellent service and very clean, well worth a visit when in Southend

I regularly stop for coffee and the occasional cake. Coffee is very nice. Far superior to the adjacent chain venue. The staff are always very friendly, get to know your name and professional. There are some bad reviews about food I have read recently. In my opinion they offer too much choice. This may be why. And like most places now coffee and cake are expensive. But for me it's all about the staff and coffee. All good there.

By far the worst salmon cream cheese bagel ever made. Old crusty cheese and salmon was disgusting probably off could only manage one bit which was quickly thrown in the bin. Muffin was rock hard, the bacon roll was a joke too a hard muffin ripped open with a little bit of un cooked bacon. -10/10

We had the duffin choux pastry warmed up, you break off the pastry off and dip it in the chocolate, amazing, we had it with great coffee. We had the big breakfast the following day, it was amazing, we also took 3 duffins and 3 different muffins home, the duffins were amazing, the buns a little dry but still good. I would definitely recommend this place, the selection is amazing.

It’s the best coffee in town and I visit at least twice a week sometime three. My children love the milkshakes and of course the cakes so much choice. They cater for everyone such as vegan, gluten free and milk free. I have visited a few of the muffin break coffee shop and found southend to be one of the best. It’s clean and friendly. The staff are very accommodating cannot wait to go again.

Popped in for coffee break while out shopping. Really nice coffee, we also had a couple of really nice muffins. All the muffins and vake looked enticing along with the savoury food. My main reason for this review is the staff, really friendly, polite and attentive was a lovely atmosphere in there and my partner left his walllet behind and the young guy who was tidying and cleaning came running up the high street after us to return the wallet. Many thanks guys

Have been frequenting Muffin Break in Southend pretty much since it opened. It is most definitely the best coffee shop in town by far. As well as amazing food and delicious coffee, the staff make the whole thing a great experience. The manager takes time to chat and really listens, commenting when you next see him. They remember orders the next time you visit so you feel lime part of the family. A scarce experience these days. Well done MB.

The Muffin Break in Southend High Street is a must for my wife and I when we shop in the High Street. They serve great coffee and their muffins are fantastic. However, the reason this is our favourite coffee shop is also down to the staff. They go out of their way to make you welcome and are so very friendly. If you haven't been there yet I would urge you to try it. You will not be disappointed!

I'm not sure if it's because it was later afternoon so the muffins has been out all day but the double Choc muffin I tried was very disappointing. The sponge was so dry and I was hoping for a gooey centre but there wasn't one. There wasn't enough icing to balance the amount of dry sponge. I don't ever leave cake but I couldn't finish this as it was just too dry.

My friend and I stopped here for lunch before we went to our fundraiser, coffee was lovely but lunch was a let down, I ordered a toastie with a side salad and crisps, the toastie was ok, but the salad was very unappetising (to be honest mushed lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes were not my idea of a nice salad) the crisps were on top, when I had a mouthful of the salad it was very bitter, I checked the plate and most of the lettuce stems were brown, my friend wouldn't eat hers because she said it looked very unappetising. On a plus side, the staff and the strawberry muffins were very nice.

I am so impressed with this place. The guy that runs it is very friendly, greets everyone and makes you feel a bit special, not the normal plastic hello you get from the big coffee chains. The display looked amazing with a great variety of savoury and sweet goods. I opted for a Raspberry and White chocolate muffin and he asked if I would like it warmed up, if you have never had warmed muffins then say yes as they are amazing. I also ordered a large latte. I walk with a stick and have problems with my balance due to neurological issues. He said to me straight away I'll bring your bits over, in many over places I have to ask, or struggle to carry them myself.

Visited early on Saturday at 9.30, we have seen this place many times, but usually go to Costa, next door but one. This place was very clean modern and quite large, goes out the back. There were about 10 customers in here when we arrived. Thought they would have more choice of muffins because I had looked on their website, but had many cakes and toasted sarnies to choose from, Hubbie settled for coconut & caramel warmed up, he said it was lovely, I had a milk chocolate cookie, which was nice, not too hard, which some places are and nearly break your teeth !!!!

Ordered 2 bacon rolls and a black Americano. Got 2 roills and 2 coffees. When corrected got a coffee with milk on the side, despite being asked again if I wanted it and saying no. Service was OK, they brought your order over. The muffin was no way worth 1.95 you can get a cheaper and quite frankly a better one from Tescos. It was very dry and bland. The triple chocolate was only a little smidge on the top plus there were nuts in it and I cannot stand nuts. The mocha was one of the worst I have ever had, I had better from my local BP garage.

I wasn’t going to write this review as I appreciate a negative review can really affect a small independent business like this, but after reading the other negative reviews it sounds like my experience wasn’t an isolated incident so the owner/manager needs to take notice. When I walked in there was a sign saying “please wait to be seated” but no one around. I waited a good 5 minutes before a young girl came to the counter and said very condescendingly “oh, just a table for one?” One of the main reasons I had decided to come here was because of a sign out the front advertising milkshakes. I asked what flavours they had but was told “no we only do them in summer.” Okay then. False advertising. I then noticed the specials board which advertised the cake of the day as white chocolate fudge cake. Thinking that sounded great I asked for that. “No we don’t have that” I was told. Okay then. More false advertising. At this point I wanted to say “you know what, I’ll just go then” but I felt awkward so asked what selection of cakes they did have. Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, apple crumble.... what a basic selection! No carrot cake, no red velvet, and no chocolate. I decided to go for the coffee and walnut. When it came time to pay, I realised I only had about £3 in change but I had my debit card and 2 credit cards on me and clearly wasn’t trying to steal a slice of cake. I thought a slice of cake couldn’t possibly be more than £3 anyway, especially as Maxwell’s Cafe over the road does delicious cakes for £2 a slice. Wrong. £3.50 for a slice of cake. The minimum for card payments is £5, which is understandable. But my god the look the woman gave me when I asked if there’s a cash machine nearby. She made me feel like a criminal! She was so rude and made the situation unbearably awkward. I was standing there with my purse, obviously not trying to dine and dash. I even said to her “look I’ll just pay you £5 for the cake”. I felt so humiliated. I was made to feel absolutely awful from the moment I walked in until the moment I walked out. It’s such a shame as I had been thinking about coming for afternoon tea with friends here but I won’t be stepping foot in here again. Not after being treated like that.
