Lovely shop friendly efficient staff

Really notice how Costa has declined in general now in terms of quality and service and this is very noticeable here. Service is at times rude, mostly tolerant and never buzzing or exceptional. Can’t make a vegan coffee to save lives! Didn’t froth the vegan milk enough which meant it was warm rather than hot and not particularly foamy.

I met a pal for coffee and a natter. This is clearly a local hub in Thorpe Bay. Pleasant staff, a good selection of cakes, pastries and biscuits. Our drinks were served at the table and hot as appropriate. Tables were kept clear and clean too (which is always a good indicator of caring staff). Thanks to the team at Costa Coffee Thorpe Bay, see you again for sure.

I recently visited this Costa Coffee Shop and was thoroughly impressed by the delicious plethora of food and drink. The atmosphere was lovely, and despite it being a busy time, the service was superb. A special mention must go to Jack (Moustache Man) whose charm and humour added to the experience. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by their exceptional understanding of nut allergy protocols. The staff were attentive and proactive in ensuring my experience was safe and enjoyable. From carefully checking ingredients to preparing my order separately to avoid cross contamination, they went above and beyond to accommodate my allergy needs. Their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction truly made a difference, and I left feeling grateful and confident in their handling of nut allergies. Highly recommend!

Got a cortado here and it might be the worst one I’ve ever had. The milk was frothed rather than steamed and it was hotter than the surface of the sun (burnt). With some training this Costa might be passable

Staff were lovely but one side of toasty was rock hard, the other side was like eating rubber. The large decaffeinated coffee with whole milk & an extra shot was so weak & tasted of vanilla, not pleasant.

Always so friendly and quick! I go there most week day mornings for my coffee. Always remembers everyone's orders. Great coffee!

Great experience, Cameron was super considerate and after ordering soy mocha and soy hot chocolate asked if I would like chocolate powder but it contained dairy. That extra touch of kindness goes a long way especially with dairy intolerance. Thank you Cameron 😊

Went in for 2 T/away drinks about 3pm on a cold Thursday afternoon three lovely guys all very friendly and the drinks were made spot on ..Black Forest hot chocolate & gingerbread latte .. perfect !

This was my cappuccino less than half full . Delivery order . For what they charge expected to get a full cup at least .

The staff are great. The coffee drinks could be better. Generally the drinks are overly sweet and the flavours seem artificial.

I CANT BELIEVE THIS!!! I have waited 45 mins for a bumbaraasclart frappe and a ham and cheese toaster this is so… nvmd it’s here all good ❤️

Three ladies behind the not exactly busy counter, if they spent less time chatting and more time asking if the customer wants their coffee and sandwich to have inside or take away - then maybe the older one would’t feel the need to ask what was wrong when I was less than impressed with the take away cup and take away sandwich, seeing as I was planning on sitting in. And by asking, I mean shouting across the shop at me. Customer service, poor.

Gluten free option appears to have be removed from online allergy menu and staff just shrugged shoulders before eventually getting a folder which looked out of date from under counter

This is by far the best costa in the area, staff are always polite and friendly, we were served by Jordan last Saturday morning whose customer service skills are excellent , looking forward to our next visit

Don't normally write reviews for chain coffee shops. Came here for a take away coffee. What really stood out was the friendliness of the staff

Awful tasting coffee. More akin to what I imagine bath water to taste like after giving the dog a wash. Asked for it to not to be too hot but as with all Costas, recieved something that peeled the tip of my tongue off.

Massive thank you to George and Zamira for helping us stay cool with 4 customised Frappes - we know we were difficult with our requests and it’s far to ‘HOT’ to be messing around today. But, we were so grateful and they were soooo nice. Thanks for also helping to keep Milo (the dog) cool and hydrated with some fresh ice water and cream!!🐶😊

What an experience as only the avid coffee drinker I often feel intimidated going into these establishments but I was pleasantly delighted when I was greeted by a lovely member of staff called Daniel I asked for a recommendation and he prepared me probably the best coffee I have ever tasted in my life. I was surprised when he told me he had used a dairy free milk. He is an asset to the business and brings positive energy and good vibes to the shop and he was clearly trained very well by a coffee making master. The owner of this business should be very proud.

A competent, happy and helpful team - the best there’s ever been at the Thorpe Bay Costa. I visit most Saturday mornings for take away and always feel welcome. Highly recommended!

The staff were so friendly despite how rude someone was and everyone was very cheerful. Quick service and everyone was so lovely. Shout out to Victoria who made me and my boyfriends drinks and took our orders, she was so kind!

Worst Costa I have ever visited. Service slow and one employee, who had a goatee so probably the same barista other reviewers have mentioned, was extremely rude. He asked quite aggressively if I wanted a medium coffee for 30p more and if I wanted to upgrade from the house coffee beans. When I declined he muttered something under his breath. After quite a wait two coffees appeared on a tray at the serving hatch. There didn’t seem to be anyone waiting in front of us so I thought they were ours and started to pick up the tray. He shouted across ‘did you order mocha’? When I said no he replied ‘well it’s not yours then is it’? Terrible customer service - I won’t be going back.

Went to Costa this morning to collect after ordering on Website. Yes, it was busy as it was the 50p 50th anniversary special. I went to the collection counter to be asked if I was collecting, I said yes and then was advised as it was busy it would be at least a 10 minute wait. I said I'm sorry but, as I was on the way to work I couldn't wait, knowing by the queue and past experience it would be nearer 20 minutes as they are usually quite slow, I understood they were busy but, perhaps I could leave it until later. The bearded guy making the coffee shouted out over his shoulder give her the 50p back. I explained I wasn't being awkward but genuinely couldn't wait. Considering I use this Costa all the time paying full price, my money was handed back to me very dismissively and abruptly making me feel very awkward. We are all busy at times but, there is no excuse for rudeness. Don't forgot customers make a business!!

One of the staff was lovely, the other one (slick back black hair) easily the rudest most condescending person I have ever met in hospitality. He was rude to two women in line before me and then the same with me. Quite frankly if there were not screens there due to Covid I would worry that someone would use his face to rest their fists. Shambles of an excuse for a human and also poor hygiene.

We are a retired couple, so no special urgency when we go in for a sit-down coffee, or take-away. We rarely have to wait very long, but if the queue looks too long, we go away and come back later, or another day. Many of the staff have got to know us by sight, and we are often greeted with a smile, and usually with friendly service. So no complaints. The staff appear to work hard to give a good standard of service, and make customers feel welcome, which may be because we try to chat to them at quieter times, and make them feel valued.

Using Costa at lunchtime on Friday we were told that, despite the store being a full store (not an Express or 'Proud To Serve') they would not accept a QR official Costa gift card! Be careful using this store as there do not appear to be any signs stating this around the outlet.

Queued up for 10 mins just to get a coffee whilst being ignored by 3 staff -like the blind leading the blind they were then told as they are a franchise they don’t accept free coffee rewards and if i want my points added from several visits to another store ( points machine down all week) I can’t keep my receipts !!

There were people waiting over thirty minutes for a take away coffee in this goldex franchise. Absolutely shocking level of service. The staff have no urgency. the lady at the till needs to be removed as she is so shockingly bad. I would have asked for a refund but it would have caused even more chaos for everyone.... I was with my friends and we went inside here and got our lunch and I finished it and it was good and nice

My sunny disposition was ruined for the last time by the poorly trained (if-at-all trained) people working in this branch. Receipts mixed up, meaning 4 people behind me got served before me, a proprietor or manager turns up and grabs the woman I assume is in charge for a review in the office when there’s a huge queue. No apology of any description from management. They’re lucky they’re the only dedicated coffee store on the broadway or they’d be out of business. I can’t be bothered to write any more though there’s plenty to say. Needless to say, I will insist my wife uses our own coffee machine for her flat white in future.

Sadly the staff are always trying to cope with queues due to the lack of other staff needed to run an efficient and clean coffee house. The toilets aren't cleaned enough, nor the tables. I feel very sorry for the guys as they work flat out. There's just not enough of them. I now go to ciao a few doors along.

I love costa, I drink a lot of it. This Costa is a nice place to stop for a drink and a cake, it’s just the service is really slow. My heart sinks when there is a queue. Other than that, it’s a nice place.

Went in today with a friend for a coffee ,didn t get off to a good start as our table clearly hadn t been wiped.Anyway I waited next to the customer (and only customer)being served before me, during this lengthy process another 5 customers had come in ,when the lady before had been served I was told that I had waited on the wrong side of the till ,with that she motioned with her eyes that as if I should go to go to the back of the line ,even though she clearly knew I was next ,I walked out and took my custom across the road to Eatalia where the staff aren t rude and unfriendly.

This is a great coffee shop in a lovely location. Ideal for popping in for a quick coffee break 👍🏻

Came here to wait for wife who was doing some thing in the area. Had a couple of large Cappuccino coffees whilst reading the newspaper outside. Also had a cake which was very good.Nice Coffee, good cake and friendly service and not rushed out of my seat , well worth a visit for a relaxing coffee.

We use Costa at least 4 times a week this one was large and airy not the best coffee served the staff could do with a little training. When we were there a member of the public came in without buying anything and used the toilet my wife had used them just before and commented on how clean they were. I went in after the gentleman and all I can say is he had bowl problems and did not know what the flush was for I exited immediately it was not nice.

Visit here regularly either on my way to work or on the way home and sometimes both,even on the weekend. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful. Yes it's busy at times, you expect to wait a little as in most coffee shops at busy times of day. I've never found it any worse here for the queue time than other similar type places.

Along with many of the Costa's I've visited, there was no job role organisation amongst the staff and because of this, the waiting was long and tiresome even though there were only a handful of people in the queue.

Bad service by uninterested or non trained staff, have had too many poor experiences at this branch, time to give it a miss and move on. The level of cleanliness is very poor, when waiting for your coffee you can see the bottom of the milk jugs are black, not very appetising!

My son visits this Costa fairly regularly and comments on the Eastern European female manager being extremely aggressive which creates a bad atmosphere and crushes the staff. I visited with both my sons today and she wasn’t there. A very friendly but nervous man brought our paninis over and a british young woman made the coffees. The service was friendly and quick. The coffee was truly awful...powdery grounds of weak coffee. My son tells me they look at the residue cup after brewing but dont empty it every time. The paninis looked OK but were indigestible. Not a patch on Cafe Neros which have good quality bread with real quality food in the fillings. The decor is getting shabby and in need of a fresh paint job. The pictures are hideous and the tables bashed and not clean. There was an unpleasant damp dirty smell.

I like Costa. I went here with my wife to sample some of the new Christmas menu. It was nice. The staff are sometimes a little bit miserable but I guess that’s life?

I met up with a friend recently and popped into the cafe of which I have visited before. However, I wasn’t amused with the customer service I received due to the strange and remarkably odd barista working there. He was continuously making frankly rude remarks about my friend and her order as well as patting us as we were sitting down whilst passing by the cafe. We had never met the man before hence why we found it extremely strange that he started touching our hair as he was passing. This is strictly not allowed and made us feel very uncomfortable and we explained to the worker that we aren’t happy with this kind of behaviour especially when it makes us feel a little uneasy. Furthermore, this kind of behaviour makes me reluctant to visit the cafe again, do I really want to be petted by cafe staff whilst I’m eating my blueberry muffin ... NO.

Lovely coffee. Pleasant atmosphere. Friendly and polite staff. Great service. Toilets were the cleanest in any costa we have been in..and we have been in alot at various places..plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor as well. Parking was easy outside on main street and its free for an hour ☺

I went to Costa one day and the manager was really polite and always had a smile on his face. When he gave me my drink he gave me extra marsh mellows to make me happy.

Defiantly would recommend. Overall nice atmosphere and workers always work with a smile on there face! Happy Customer :)

Walked through the door, approached the counter, no one else in line. Barista with the goatee did not say a word, just stared at me blankly - I thought it was a little odd, he then raised his eyebrows as if to say 'well come on then' and seemed to be in a bad mood. Told him what I would like, barely looked at me, didn't tell me the price he just put it up on the card machine and walked off to the coffee machine. Finally, the taste of my coffee just about summed up my experience today. Should not be working in hospitality. Thanks a lot mate.

This is my local coffee house in a peaceful area but does get busy as it is popular with Mum's and the local Thorpe Bay residents. Nice atmosphere.

Went to this Costa Coffee shop today 19/03/17 To buy a drink for my wife and myself.

I find the team extremely helpful, always have a smile on their faces and interact with the public so well.

Unsure of why my large cappuccino and large hot chocolate (with cream and marshmallows) came to £9.80. I was refused my receipt or a reprint. Manager of this branch is as useless as a chocolate teapot! She was rude to us and basically called us liars. FYI this costa is franchised and you can tell! Visit Wickford if you'd like the real, QUICK and HONEST costa experience!

Asked for a latte to drink in, took a very long time to prepare despite not being busy. Arrived in a take out cup, I gave up at that point and just took it. If you are in a hurry don't bother with this place.

Costa love it however the Thorpe Bay branch need to train up the baristas please !the drinks are just not the same high quality you get in other Costas have tried a few different drinks now but always feel very disappointed come in Costa sort it out please .

Nice standard coffee, poor service. No eye contact, no greeting, just the staff playing with each other's hair and having a chat amongst themselves! Very unprofessional compared to other stores.

It does what everyone wants it to do: sells coffee, cakes and few sandwiches for lunch. A good addition to Thorpe Bay Broadway, the other cafe along the parade still seems busy which is encouraging as it seems it's attracted more people rather than just poach customers.

I visit here most days and am pleasantly surprised how a chain Cafe like this can be so Local and Friendly, the staff are so happy and remember the clients like guests and even remember what we normally drink. Organised Manager, Great Staff, great Coffee, a good selection of snacks and sandwiches and nice Clean Toilets. Well done :-)

Yes, I love costa coffee. So shoot me. I guess I epitomise what's wrong with my generation. This branch is ok, service is a little slow and I find the staff a little stern too. But it's a well located branch and my local branch so I'll keep visiting.

Not much you can say about a Costa Coffee, they all offer the same products, which are consistently of a good standard. This one is set in The Broadway, a very nice area.

i pop in at least twice a week for an americano always good .Staff are really nice only negative is the food, cakes etc are expensive.

I go here often with my mum, it's a smaller venue than some of their others but the standard is just as high. The drink variety, both hot and cold, is extensive. The food they serve is always fresh and good quality. If you want a more intimate place for a drink and a catch up with friends, this branch is perfect. The staff are always friendly and polite, and willing to help.

Lovley little Costa, service is very good, and the place is clean (especially the toilets, much cleaner than some Costas I've seen!) Staff get to know regulars too, and know the orders. Very good service.

It's safe to say I spend way too much time here... I love the addition of Costa to the Broadway.

Not consistent in quality and value as coffee not always the best Costa Coffee in the town.

Coffee was burnt, had skin of milk on it. Reported it to member of staff she shrugged her shoulders wouldn't replace it. In fact surprised she could hear me over ridiculously loud music. Would never visit again. Also heard staff talking about clients very professional, place is filthy

It's always nice in here, seems to have a cosy ambience. A nice addition to Thorpe Bay Broadway. It's just a shame they are all so expensive, not just the coffees but pretty much their entire range of stock is overpriced.

Handy coffee shop near railway station on The Broadway, among a small row of shops. Nothing different from the usual in this chain,mediocre Hot Chocolate and slightly stale cakes.
