The Peterboat in Southend-on-Sea

Great find out in Essex. Ordered chowder, pie of the day and fish pie. Fish pie was pretty good. Chowder was average and pie of the day was solid. Could barely hear my partner talk as it was so loud. Views can be good during sunset. Avoid during peak time at all cost. Not worth it. Also felt food was overpriced for what it was. Great for maybe a stop for one drink or cup of tea.

A old favourite never disappoints. A lovely place for a drink or something to eat inside or out.

The oysters were to die for and the clam chowder was great too.

Food was alright wasn’t worth the price tho I must say it came out small portions Prawn cocktail 6 baby prawns, two lettuce leafs and cocktail sauce in a tiny little cup came to £9 can go to Asda and made a big bowl for that , but it was lovely there just a shame on the prices on the food but the place is nice in the summer for drinks , brunch’s

Very disappointing service and rude waitress. Booked a lunch table for two at 11:45. Immediately after declining deserts at 12:50 we were asked to vacate our table as it was need for someone else. We were not given a chance to finish our drinks or order coffee. Instead we were moved to the bar area which only had unsuitably high bar stools for seating. Compromising we said we would sit outside only to be told we had to settle the bill first. At this point we had enough and decided, to pay and left, feeling we had been thrown out and our custom was not welcomed. Shame because our lunch consisting of goats cheese salad was delicious! Never felt so insulted dining anywhere in Leigh before and as I frequent The Peterboat did not expect such poor service entertaining my friend - very embarrassing indeed.

I'd like to share my whole hearted thanks to the team which supported my Grandad's wake on Tuesday this week. I would like to highlight the ease of booking with the reservation team, who also helped to amend the wake menu to tailor to a more veggie spread. On the day we were able to go in and dress the area and we were met by Justin, who kindly help go over a few details and supported us with our requests, he also kindly agreed to hold on to the display trumpet in the office. Upon arrival, we were slightly early and that wasn't an issue, I was assigned David who was amazing at communicating with me for the whole evening - any request wasn't too much trouble, such as bar tabs, bringing out the food a little earlier, bringing out the chees board later and then helping with packing up the left over food. Finally David agreed we could come the following morning to help un decorate / take our items home and upon arrival the team had carefully removed everything and neatly piled everything for our collection. Organising something this heart felt is challenging at the best of times but the day and everything beforehand was so easy to do. The food btw was delicious so also compliment to the chef too! Could recommend anyone looking to visit to do so, the staff are friendly, food is great and the venue is top notch! We will see you again on the 26th with a smaller group to celebrate Grandads birthday. Thank you all at the Pete Boat for making our day perfect!

Really enjoyed our meal here, the French bouillabaisse was superb. Worth a trip out even if the weathers not so good. Out of season you get to park at the restaurant.

Great venue and great choice of menu.

We went there today it looked fancy we thou It would be great but we was wrong we ordered breakfast with extra sausage and egg we had a coke and latte and tea with toast and jam 50 pound unbelievable so how much was the extra sausage and egg because it say £13 pound for breakfast the eggs was bone dry no yolk when paying we did tell them we got offered 4 pound refund won’t go again hidden prices for food just a rip off more than half left on the plate

Still a great spot for a drink and or/food. The staff are lovely and the food is good. They often have live music and in the summer this is often outside which gives you another reason to stop here!

Massive queues to be served but we expected that owing to the location and it being the first sunny weekend of the year. The staff work so hard and non stop so queuing wasn't an issue for us. We managed to get a table outside and enjoyed some drinks in the sun with beautiful views.

A very welcoming restaurant and a great location. Very generous portions and all the meals we had were excellent. Would thoroughly recommend the fish and chips. Our waitress Grace was amazing, very engaging and friendly. Overall, highly recommended.

Sunday lunch with my family (14 people around one table) was an all round excellent experience. All the food was delicious and the roasts tick all the boxes, but also good that there are plenty of other choices for those who don’t want a roast. My main praise though, goes to the staff, who are all super efficient, friendly and very accommodating. Particular praise must go to our main servers, Aimee and Grace, who were exceptional and couldn’t do enough for us on an extremely busy day. A very well run place and an asset to Old Leigh.

We visited on a Sunday and it was absolutely packed but we received the best of services throughout our visit. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food and drinks never disappoint and its very clear why the Peter Boat is SO popular.

Megan was our waitress on Saturday, and she was very friendly and welcoming, and also spot on when she recommended the Peterboat Chowder to me. It was really delicious. We had a smashing lunch and will definitely be popping back.

Was served by Isabella - she was nice, friendly and very accommodating. Great food and service will be back again soon!!

We had a lovely meal after a long walk at the Peterboat. At first we were dubious, there were a lot of kids and this can be a red flag when it comes to quality experiences. But we were wrong, our waitress was excellent - really engaging and helpful, recommended some great dishes. And the food was pretty faultless for pub grub, everything we ate was lovely. The gluten free jam roly poly was especially good, achieved a great texture. Recommended pub for the food alone! (If you can withstand the kids!)

Recently went here for my wife's birthday lunch. Food was lovely and so were the staff. Highly recommended.

Looks a lovely place....with great views. Had coffee, no teacakes left...was offered toast....but just had coffee.... which was tepid. Wouldn't go back...shame, had thought about lunch or dinner there sometime....

Arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon, was quickly seated and service remained amazing throughout. Food was lovely with good portion size. Children's menu was also varied and a good eat.

I’ve eaten here a many times over the past few years, this time with a group of friends. Such a great place to eat! Staff are very welcoming and helpful, the food is really good, lots of choice and the specials are always worth having! Meals are a good size and when eating in a group, all turn up together, I’ve never left here feeling hungry! They have vegetarian meals too, which I’m told are very good!

Our favourite restaurant, always delicious food ,nice atmosphere and lovely waiters / waitresses.

Very busy so really quite noisy so if you want somewhere to chat happily maybe avoid here at weekends

Arh The Peterboat, aways ceases to amaze! I haven't been in a while, and the place just gets better and better. The quality of services was just 5 stars. From when we arrived at front of desk, to being seated, to being told who our drinks will be ordered with, followed by our lovely waitress Angela, who took our food orders. Not only was Angela impressive, with her knowledge, she went that extra mile to accommodate us. She also made sure that all the tables around her were accommodated. When people left, she quickly and efficiently reset the tables for the next customers. The service was unbelievably quick, and food was very nice. Half chicken with mash and seasonal veg extremely good. There must of easily been two hundred people there on our visit today for the few hours we was there, the atmosphere was lovely. Well done, Peter Boat, your staff are absolute credit to you, you should be very proud of them....and thank you.

We received a warm welcome . The table was perfect and Angela looked after us really well. We really enjoyed our meal and the portions were huge. Delicious desserts too! It really is a very friendly and comfortable place.

As usual service was 5 star ,The piece of Skate was wonderful .I live in Kent but always come over for the Skate when it's on the menu

When my mum told me we were going here with 20 of the family to celebrate her 80th, I have to admit I was a little sceptical - but it was great! All guys waiting our tables were great and our host, Kyra, was excellent. The food was good - it's not fine dining but good pub grub. Considering there was 20 of us, it all arrived at the table at same time so we all ate together. The whole afternoon was a really good experience - thanks Peterboat!

The service was average at best. The food was very disappointing, cold, dry and not inline with prices. The waiter decided to add £1.95 for a ball of icecream with a candle for one of our birthdays against a bill of £360 which we thought was unnecessary. Overall not a good experience and wouldn’t return.

Angela was, as always, serving us really well.We thoroughly enjoyed the food and, although it was very busy, the staff were very attentive. Many thanks.We always love the Peterboat and today did not disappoint.

Value for money breakfast in a very well heated patio with excellent service we have visited a few times now and always are made very welcome by the staff.

Booked the patio room for my Mums birthday party. Megan our host was absolutely superb, constantly getting drinks and clearing tables, she was so helpful and friendly. The food (buffet) was great - variety & quality, and plenty of it. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful party, and especially Megan!

This was the first time recently I went to the Peterboat with my partner, I live in the Midlands and travel down each week to see my partner, I have dined in many places however the Sunday dinners here are 12/10 faultless great food and excellent service, we plan to get married next year and have already chosen this location ideal for our place to dine after the event with friends

Bar staff were not serving the whole bar and definitely no attempt at serving in order, just whoever was in front of them which was disappointing. When mentioned, bar person was rude. Understand the were busy, but surely part of their training should be watching the bar as much as possible, for new arrivals. Or maybe this just does not happen in training anymore! Food was very nice, although tad pricey and did come out quickly.

The portions here are humungous! My steak and ale pie was okay, chips were very well cooked. Although, unfortunately , the beef burger wasn’t cooked well and did not taste good. Our starters were decent too. Overall, the food was okay.

Had a lovely meal here on xmas eve . I had the pork belly which was excellent . The waitress was very helpful and we had a great time .

Best sunday roast dinner by far,of all different pubs restaurants in area,the lamb and roast potatoes (hope mine turn out that good xmas day)

Fantastic atmosphere - very festive! Enjoyed the Set Menu, good value and tasty. Not rushed for our table, we could take our time. The place is well positioned on the waterfront and I look forward to returning again next year.

Great place to eat, not particularly cheap but it's a prime location so, not surprising. I had the rock eal and chips, it was well cooked, the chips where a little under done, but nothing outrageous. Salad was fresh and the tartar sauce was the best I've tasted. Recommend a visit.

Take the peterboat cockle chowder, DELICIOUS! The rest is 2/3 stars, frozen vegetables, cocktails not great… Big portions though. Great atmosphere and service.

A nice place, busy, but very clean and although not the cheapest, it's not too badly priced.

This was hands down the worst lunch experience I have had. Ordered a battered eel which reeked of ammonia, I barely took a bite out of it before I stopped. When our dishes were collected, there was still a full fish left in my plate. Waitress and waiter did not even bother asking how the meal was. £55 for two and there was 0 concern as to why the main was left untouched.

Just had a fantastic lunch here today. This restaurant/pub is lovely, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere really chilled The staff were so efficient and service was of a very high standard, one young lady in particular was just so attentive despite being very busy, which is always a good sign. Can't rate this place highly enough.

Went to have lunch for my Dads birthday. The food was delicious, there was not a scrap left on any of our plates. Beautifully presented and good portions. Sister had a vegan option and was thrilled with how flavoursome it was. I can't wait to come back. Angela our waitress was lovely, all the staff were. Highly recommend

Lovely meal in this local pub on the estuary. Stunning views and a welcoming atmosphere. Great food, friendly excellent service - would highly recommend.

As always this really clean and friendly restaurant has met and surpassed our expectations. Good quality food served a reasonable prices. A wide range of menu made it easy to choose. The staff are always first class and today was no exception. We were served by Grace. Grace by name and by nature. I am elderly and slightly disabled. Her attentive but unobtrusive service was just what we needed.

Having been there many times before over the course of many years I was delighted to see the place packed out when we arrived. Because it was so busy we had to wait a short while to be asked if we wanted a drink and then we got our menus which to be honest hasnt changed much over the years. I have always had the cockle chowder as a starter and in the past it has been served in a bowl with bread on the side and there was plenty of it. This time it came in a hollowed out cob roll and after 3 spoonfuls I had finished it and I had to play hunt the cockle to find any - very disappointed with this. That said the rest of the meals that our group had were all excellent and we were served by Angela who was very bubbly and cheerful. A good day out apart from the cockle chowder.

Angela was lovely, very friendly we had an awesome customer experience. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was great. We had a great time and would recommend anyone to go there and would go again if we lived in the UK….we were only holiday from New Zealand.

4th November 2024, was a nice fresh sunny day. Went to Leigh in afternoon with a special someone and my little Chihuahua and Sat outside the Peterboat and had Dinner. We had the Catch of the day, which was Cod as main Seafood with winter vegetables, a Prawn Bisque, Musells, New Potatoes and Courgette, and it was absolutely gorgeous and so flavoursome. Best Fish meal I have tasted in a long time. The view was lovely and The Service was outstanding. You get what you pay for and this afternoon was well worth it. Including drinks it all averaged out to £30-£40 per person.

Great location, good beer, and nice atmosphere on a warm October Sunday afternoon.

Lovely food and such beautiful views

We had the pleasure of lunch at The Peterboat twice on our recent trip to Leigh on Sea. I had a delicious prawn salad on our first visit. Scampi and Chips on our 2nd visit. Both were excellent with great service

Turned up without a booking and it was mobbed even on a Tuesday lunchtime. No problem though as they put us up at a table at the bar. No ordering at the table but only a lazy sod would complain about stepping 5 feet and ordering at the bar. Same friendly attentive staff, smiling and friendly. Missus had chicken and walnut pie, cod and chips for me with a couple of decent pints of Guinness to wash it down. A pleasent experience in a nice setting. Next time I’ll book a window table though.

We love this place. Good fish, mussels, pie. Happened to be in the area a couple of weeks after our first visit and went back for more.

Great spot - the location is wonderful with a view over the water. A few vegan and veg options, and the fish and chips / seafood seemed to be what most were having. It’s a glorious spot to sit on a nice day - we didn’t see the inside but will definitely be going back!

Ive been here twice and had two very different experiences - the first time was incredible service, the waitress was so attentive and friendly. I ordered the seafood chowder which was delicious. But the second time was on the weekend when it was really busy, we waited quite a long time get our food - which anyone with a baby will know is quite an endurance! Our booking was at 1:30, but we didn’t start eating until 3:30! It’s a shame as the food was delicious but the service was just too slow.

Fish and chips were fried in over used oil, very greasy and cod over cooked. No service to speak off

Fish pie overcooked and not much fish in one out of two. One was thought to “smell off” and the waitresses attention drawn to it. No action was taken as our fellow diner didn’t wish to “make anything of it”. Whitebait were dry. Nothing allowed off bill for the returned dish which surprised me. Far from our best experience at the Peter Boat

Food was good. Service was very slow but don't blame the waitress as despite there being many staff, one poor waitress was trying to manage all tables!

Always an amazing place to go! Views are beautiful it is always a vibrant and buzzing pub environment. Food was excellent and service is efficient and well organised. We always tend to go to the Peterboat because it is a very reliable quality evening meal !

I haven’t been to this venue for in excess of 20yrs - a Leigh regatta - it was just a pub then with fried offerings - what a transformation- I had oysters beautifully presented and catch of the day - my wife had a mahoosive cod and chips with bits and bobs - we had a bottle of wine as you do and lemon possets for desert - it’s not cheap however worth every penny

Spent my partners birthday there with some really good friend we travelled from Sussex and it was worth it thank you Peter boat see you next year

The server said that they would only remove an ingredient thst my wife is allergic too if they weren't too busy. Outrageously irresponsible.

It's packed but no rude people , all fresh seafood from them. It's beautiful cobbled street, with a few other quirky shops pubs and the oppulant eateries . All ages . People friendly, be warned hardly and car parking space only down side xx

Nice pub on the seafront. Car parking near by and you have to walk a few minutes to get there. Lovely atmosphere, roomy and well lit. Good range of food and drink, reasonable prices too.

Generally nice location and nice setting however a recent visit was somewhat spoiled towards the end of the night by the table next to us playing loud music from their phones in a very anti-social manner so loud my friend and I could not hear each other. Sadly the staff did nothing to stop this at all. I even wrote to the management but failed to get a reply. Good job there are other pubs to go to in.

We had 18 family and friends join us after our civil ceremony for dinner n drinks on a BEAUTIFULL summers afternoon. Food drinks and special service from Eva made our special day so memorable THANK U PETERBOAT 5 star service Xx
