All round great service with a nice atmosphere and great food and coffee. I would recommend and choose over most of the coffee shops in chelmsford.

The Muffin Break in High St Chelmsford is by a million miles the best coffee place we know, ANYWHERE. The staff are always hyper friendly and helpful, always warm and cheery and remember clients from previous visits. The coffee is fantastic but the piece de resistance is the carrot cake. Ab huge portion, moist cake with astounding icing. The other outlets here charge way more for much smaller poorer quality offerings. Love this place.

Polite staff. Coffee and food always fresh and served quickly. No waiting at the counter as they bring it to you once you’ve sat down at a table. Works well.

I go in for a coffee and two cheese scones nearly every day. All the staff have been polite, helpful and efficient at every time I have been there. Absolutely

This is a terrible place to eat, the food is terrible and this particular worker, quite young with dark hair is very rude and couldn't even make my milkshake properly. Do not go here.

Popped in here just for a quick break. Big mistake! . Outside tables not cleaned still with trays and used coffee cups, went to counter not sure if they offer table service. The coffee came up just warm. And Aero mint milk shake must be the worst I’ve ever had. It was full of powder and like drinking a cup of sugar. When taken back to counter the staff were unhelpful and I only wished that I had given the money to a homeless person just outside. This place should not be operating as a coffee shop. Maybe a soup kitchen. Please avoid and save your hard earned money

Stoped for a quick bite to eat between meetings, usually with muffin break you know what you are getting and it’s always good. But this time the sandwich had hardly any filling in it and wasn’t great at all. Coffee was fine.

Went back to Muffin Break after Covid and was really let down. The hot chocolate was very strong and not at all "hot". The cream and marshmallow on top of one of the hot chocolates were mixed together instead of being layered so resulted in a soggy mush. My muffin was insipid with no flavour at all. Complained to Muffin Break online but received no response whatsoever. Looks as though we will have to go elsewhere for a decent drink.

Last visited about 3 months ago.. was looking forward to returning as found it good quality food and service. How disappointing to find food quality deteriorated so much. Both times I had tuna melt. This visit it was probably worst I've eaten. Inside there was a smear of tuna paste with absolutely no cheese in evidence. Wont be rushing back in a hurry.

Very busy before midday, coffee and hot chocolate spot on, and the made on the premises Coffee cake superb, good service, and to be fair its better than a costa

So lovely! The staff make this place a really welcoming friendly place to come. We were created with big smiles and friendliness. The food was lovely (standard coffee shop cake) cappuccino and milkshake were very good. Food and drinks were all brought to the table. We will 100% be back. Cafe is family friendly and I would recommend to families including breastfeeding mummas . Covid compliance was excellent

We visited yesterday afternoon and was absolutely shocked at the overall cleanliness, dirty tables, toilets dirty, no waitresses/waiters spare, such a shame for the young girl trying to do everything herself, felt very sorry for her. There was hardly anything left to eat and it was only 2ish, they had nothing to offer either, no more baking taking place. This was our absolute favourite place and now sooooo disappeared, Vas the previous manager would be dismayed. The young staff did not know what they were doing but were doing their best as their was no owner/manager to be seen for the last 3 weeks.

I had a cheese scone when I popped into Chelmsford with my husband I thought it was delicious. My husband and I came in on Boxing Day for the sales. So pleased to see they were open. I had another cheese scone fresh from the oven with a salted caramel latte delicious.

Tables, seats and floor were covered in crumbs, empty cups, trays and tissues. We couldn't find anywhere clean to sit so asked for takeaway cups to pour our coffees into so we could drink them elsewhere.

Different types of cakes.sandwiches from most cafes. The staff are very friendly, helpful and honest - bringing my change to me when I had left it at the counter!

I went today and there was no one in the que just me and my mum and the lady was rushing me to order as soon as I stepped foot in the door. Didn’t give me time to even look at the coffee menu just rudely said any drinks?? Any drinks lady’s?? Which made me walk out. No need to be so rude and abrupt. Give your customers a chance instead of barking at them

The staff at the Muffin Break always have a smile, they are happy, and nothing is too much trouble. PLUS you must try the sausage rolls, they are so tasty. The coffee is good and all at a very reasonable price.

I often pop in here while in Chelmsford, service is always great, staff are friendly and helpful. On today’s visit I had tea for free so cannot complain 😃

Often pop in when I’m when shopping, good coffee, perfect muffins and lots of wraps, paninis and other tasty snacks to choose from in very friendly surroundings....perfect

Went to Chelmsford Saturday. Staff really rushing you to order. Could not see any muffins in cabinet at all. Eventually saw them on shelves behind, but as all staff standing in front and they are rushing you to order quickly could not see all that was available. Wanted a Reg Mocha and small latte, said they don't do small drinks (well! its on their menu as small lattes) ended up with reg latte, which husband said was horrible anyway and left the extra bit he got stuck with. They tried this last time showing us a small sized cup to get you to buy a reg one. Two/three tables we were going to sit at were dirty all over the chairs, not cleaning up to sit there, staff can do that! This one is the worse Muffin break we go to. they also don't like giving you your free item, muffin or coffee etc that's accrued on the card.

Found the staff pleasant and helpfully, coffee is a nice blend and not bitter, plenty of goods on offer , staff was cleaning, looked very clean and tidy.

visited again today whilst in the meadows and the wife had her usual gluton free raspberry muffin and i tried the new Cheese scone. Well it was lovely and i can honestly say its always a great atmosphere in the Muffin break and seriously good coffee.

I have been here on a few occasions, and every time the food and drink has been delicious and I could not fault it. The tables are kept clean, the staff are friendly, it's a very convenient central location. I plan to return soon!

I had a brie & bacon Panini which was very nice but it took quite a while to come out to me. The muffins were a bit overdone, the outside was quite hard & crunchy & I have found this before with muffin break. BB's round the corner have the best muffins & these just don't live up to expectation

Me and my mate have been regulars for a couple of months now after finding this gem of a place in Chelmsford. Not only because the standard of coffee is mouth watering but the customer service is legendary. They always know us when we come in a feel so welcome. I’d highly recommend muffin break to family, friends and couples for a cheeky little ‘break’

I’ve been a regular visitor over the last couple of years. Sometimes as a family with push chair and sometimes as a couple.

I had a late breakfast of an egg and bacon roll and it was lovely. I was asked how I’d like my egg which I thought unexpected for this type of establishment. Asked for soft egg and this was what I got with plenty of bacon and a nice soft ciabatta style small roll.

Apart from good coffee and Muffins (Cup cakes) there are some great hot snacks if you want something hot. Fast and friendly service and loyalty points -make sure you get the card.Its one of the cleaner fast eat places.

Staff are rude. My panini was unedible rock hard. 20 mins to get food when not even busy. never again

I came here for lunch with a friend and I enjoyed a panini - although nice, it was expensive. They did have a lovely selection of muffins and the apple and cinnamon was particularly lovely.

Having eaten here recently , we found the prices and food offered to be reasonably priced and more importantly ..service with a smile !!:

Been in a few times now and first time I gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe I just came at the wrong time.. but every time I come in the place is filthy!! Even on a week day. All over the tables, trodden into the floor! They have up to 6 staff at the till, think they need someone on the floor cleaning!!!! Not just a quick run out once in a while. They were so dirty. Then we got the wrong order! And we had to change our cups twice!!! Won’t be coming again. Fed up with it now, done with trying it.

Lovely lunch food is good and staff are friendly. Lots of choices not too pricey, the atmosphere is vibrant a good place to meet and eat.

Fuimos a Chelmsford para hacer algunas compras y después de hacer este y curiosear por el mercado que pensamos dar la magdalena romper una prueba para el almuerzo. Nos pareció que el personal era muy agradable y amable, el café en sí estaba muy limpio y ordenado y bien distribuido y bastante amplio. Buscamos en su menú y opciones de comida y tapado por algunos de sus Panini's y dos lattes. Llegaron al cabo de un rato y nos pareció muy sabroso y la leche tenía buen sabor. Nos descansamos un rato después de esta y luego pagué la cuenta, muy razonable, lo visitaremos de nuevo.

Fuimos a visitar la sucursal chelmsford dos veces alrededor de las 5:00 p.m. en los últimos 6 meses. La primera vez nos dijeron que sólo podíamos llevar ya que cerca a las 5:30 y esta vez me preguntó si estábamos bebiendo en o para llevar que contestamos potable en y me dijeron que eso está bien porque si había venido en 4 minutos después me dijeron que es de sólo llevar ya que cerca a las 5:30. Por favor dígame cómo es posible cerrar a las 5:30 pero a las personas para un café para tomar algo. ¿Cuánto se tarda en tomar una taza de café? 15 minutos como máximo. Nos hicieron sentir muy incómodos dos veces y fuimos a Starbucks de al lado. Con tanta competencia alrededor que me sorprende el servicio al cliente puede ser este mal.

We regularly visit this place and find it very enjoyable experience, it's clean and expertly run. There is various small snacks from toasted sandwiches to their lovely muffins and cakes. All the usual soft drinks are available to make it a perfect place for break.

Great place for chilling, indulging in some yummy treats & escaping from the outside world for a few moments.

Coffee was very good and we also enjoyed two delicious muffins which were freshly made and extremely good. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent toilets. Great place to visit when in City.

Have been in to the Muffin Break a number of times whilst shopping in Chelmsford. Tea's & Coffee's are always piping hot and full of flavour. We sometimes have a Blueberry Muffin or ChocChip Muffin. Again always freshly made and delicious

Used to visit this place every weekend as the coffee is good at a reasonable price. We stopped going for a while as felt harassed by one of the "salesman" into changing our order size from medium to large or having extra cakes etc etc It is better when he's not on duty. Worth a visit though for the coffee.

I stopped in whilst doing some Christmas shopping for a light refreshment break and was really disappointed with the 'Traditional Milkshake' apparently made with ice cream - fairly sure it just had milk in. The carrot cake was far from moist with hardly any icing and to top it off they served it all up with dirty cutlery and no napkins! Not impressed at all, next time I'll just stick to Starbucks!

We Visit Chelmsford regularly and always pop in for a Coffee and a bite to eat, we always find the Coffee excellent the Pannini's, and Cakes always fresh.We never have to wait long to be served as the manager is always on the ball and tells his staff when customers are waiting.

Wanted to just sit down with s coffee and read my book.While I was waiting to be served I was tempted by the carrot cake. I ordered a piece and a black Americano. Even though there was no one in front of me it took an age for it to be made. I sat down and opened my book. The carrot cake was ok but think it had been on display too long. It was a bit dry. The coffee wasn't that good either. A bit bitter. The staff were rushed off their feet an seemed a bit stressed. There were tables that hadn't been cleared and the ambience was a bit 'loud and busy'. Not the place for a relaxing break. Won't be returning.

The queue to order food is quite noisy and rushed. You can feel the stress from the staff across the counter and its very much a shout your order and wait for it. My frappe was forgotten and I had to go back up to ask where it was. The waitresses seem young and inexperienced, while the man in charge seems bossy but I suppose he is the boss.

Stopped in for a bite to eat at lunch. It was incredibly busy and staff looked flustered. We tried to get somewhere to sit and waited for someone to clear a table for us. Prices were exceptionally expensive for what we ordered. £2.30 for a bottle of warm apple juice? Would have thought at that price it would be fresh, and chilled! Had a Panini each, which were both lacking filling which was disappointing. Whilst we were eating, we could hear a manager shouting at staff to wash up and serve food etc. Not exactly the most calming of sounds! We won't be back unfortunately.

It is nice for a quick coffee and cake with a nice atmosphere and clean toilets. But it is expensive in there - a smoothie was £5!! With 2 children that's what they wanted plus the fancy cakes our bill was £18 for 3 people!!!

The coffee shop is well laid out and relaxing. The quality and selection of muffins is to die for. Along side the muffins there is also a large selection of cakes an savory snacks. A great place to rest a while if you are shopping.

I came with a friend and had the cheese and tomato toastie - I found this to be bland and tasteless and really disappointing! Also very over priced for what they're offering! I also had a bacon roll here once and was disappointed yet again! I had the tiniest bit of bacon in a roll and it was again, bland and tasteless! Would've been cheaper to go McDonald's and much nicer too! The only reason I haven't rated this terrible is because the carrot cake was to die for, and I would return for the carrot cake and the carrot cake alone.

Have been here on numerous occasions. First few times excellent service, then downhill from there. The first problem was the way that myself and a friend were spoken in a very rude manner when sitting in a booth, saying that they weren't for two people only to sit in (when we had purchased our drinks this was the only spare table, the others being taken up by people who had yet to order). The latest visit was on Sunday (so not a busy day), my sister ordered food and drinks for us, but I was buying the cakes two others from behind me were serviced first although I clearly had my purse out to purchase something. The wrap ordered was extremely dry like it had been sitting there for hours, we also recieved no spoons with our drinks or cutlery to eat our food. It's not as if it were understaffed, there were 8 tables taken and 7 members of staff.

Good service and the coffee and muffins are good. They have some hot food, but would like some more choice. Staff always friendly.

Have often frequented this little gem as I find the coffee very tasty, the prices are good and the service is excellent. I highly recommended this coffee shop for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Popped in here while shopping with my daughter - great pushchair and disabled access. Light and airy with friendly staff and the food displays looked great. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of cakes we ordered - my daughters chocolate cake was very rich but dry. My baked cheesecake was probably the most bland I'd ever eaten - more plastic than creamy which is what I'd expect. So I wouldn't return.

Stopped here for a drink and a bite to eat. Staff very friendly. Nice and clean. Such a lovely variety of muffins, cakes, sandwiches, panini and flat breads. One of our favourite places to visit.

This is our first visit here. The drinks were nice but the coffee cake was poor and toasts have room to improve. The place is a nice cafe however they need someone to clear the tables. It's not massively busy but all empty tables have a few trays on them. We will try this place again in the future though

The visit was great, nice coffee and warm staff. The muffins are fresh and very delicious. With loyalty card you can get free coffees as well.

I have been here a few times. The coffee and snacks are good but the service has varied from adequate to terrible. Saturdays are chaotic. The number of people working behind the counter nearly outweighs the number of customers. There are too many cooks, all taking orders and money at the same time with no order or control. The overall impression is chaos and confusion all round.

I just love it ... I come almost every day here for my latte and my sandwich or sweet ... The staff is lovely and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing.. See you there ... Don't miss it :p

First visit to muffin break. Sandwiches were very tasty and seemed homemade as compared with other coffee chains. Service friendly and helpful. Loyalty card system too.

In desperate need of coffee and food the friend I was with recommended the Muffin Break, good choice, very busy but the staff were all helpful, I am only allowed to drink decaf coffee :-( so finding somewhere that sells a good one is important for me, Muffin Break did not let me down. Snack we had was also good. My friend got a seats I ordered and then, Chris, one of the staff, carried my tray to the table for me (no I am not that ancient but the help (without having to be asked) was much appreciated. If I am in Chelmsford again I shall certainly revisit.

Popped in while shopping. We have visited quite a few times and once again the service and cleanliness of the place is very good. They do some very interesting nice snacks, getting away from the normal snacks of rolls or sandwiches. Muffins are great and the banana cake is gorgeous too.

Ordered a cheese and onion toastie which was really just an onion sandwich, barely toasted, more sort of warmed with a vanishingly small amount of cheese. A rare bit indeed. Very expensive too. Should have sent it back but decided that's the one and only time I will go in there.

I enjoy nothing more than a coffee and a slice of cake if I find myself with the desire to snack in town, so my husband and I stopped in here - and almost immediately wished we hadn't. The server dithered so much that I was left uncertain as to whether we were being served at the counter or if we ought to have found a seat, and we seemed to wait for an inordinate amount of time for a simple tea, mocha and slice of carrot cake!While staff were present on the floor, we were unable to find a clean table and had to settle for the least littered and spilled-on table we could locate. It wasn't particularly busy and a quick collection of rubbish and a wipe of the grubbier tables would have made all the difference, but staff were really just milling about aimlessly.As for my overpriced carrot cake... I'm sorry; it was disgusting and the only reason I ate it was because I'd paid for it and didn't want another wait while I took it back. It was dry and tasteless, and the icing was hard with a nasty, sharp, synthetic flavour that may or may not have been pretending to be lemon.A disappointing experience that my stomach later suffered for. Suffice to say, my husband and I shall not be returning.

This looks like a trendy and attractive little cafe. The staff were brilliant and very obliging, unfortunately the food was foul (Tikka panini was pretty much a crisp of something that vaguely resembled chicken tikka and the bacon and tomato toastie had the flavour pressed out of it. The muffins promised much but were dry and flavourless (much nicer in Costa) and the coffee was mouth quincing strong , for £16.80 it represented appalling value, I had suggested a trip to Macdonalds would have been more satisfactory and my wife who doesn't really like MacDonalds totally agreed.

Good atmosphere. Welcoming staff and great coffee. Good selection of cakes and sandwiches. Much quieter than other coffee shops in town. Recommended.
