M&S Cafe in Dundee City

Found it tucked away upstairs. Place mobbed as it’s newly opened. Now too far for my mum to get to, best for people with cars. Till operator asked if I’d like to try the new summer blend, no mention that it costs extra. It was disgusting to be perfectly honest. Last person’s cups an plates STILL in front of me. Not impressed and won’t be back. I’m not alone in thinking this as the couple sat next to me thought the coffee was atrocious too.

Once again Marks and Spencer hasn’t listened to its customers. This new cafe is small, cramped , noisy , windowless and the queue for a coffee is ridiculous! I didn’t stay and the member on staff on floor duty was rude and uncaring saying, “Well you can’t please everybody” . Won’t return. Such a shame.

This is the new so called flagship store which was to replace the old cafe with a new experience and my what an experience 😡firstly we arrived and as it’s only half the size of the old cafe seats were like gold dust and we had to wait to get our allocated seat 💺 so after a wait I went to the allocated seat and my wife went for the order who’s was just a scone jam and butter with a coffee for me and a toastie and coffee for the Wife 😡so when I was sitting a member of staff came over with an attitude that even Hitler would be proud saying to me “move this seat has been allocated to this couple and you need to move now” you can imagine my response which was a rather bluntly sarcastic comment but anyway the girl who allocated the seat explained to the other couple that their seat was the one in front of ours 😡the to cap it all off there was no jam the coffees weren’t warm any the toast was disgusting 😡😡😡 £17 for crap 💩 and the noise was so loud it was stressful and the low height of the ceiling was claustrophobic NEVER AGAIN AND AVOID IF POSSIBLE

So we visit this cafe when staying in Dundee, (the hotels we stay in have very poor breakfasts!), and each visit is the same, quick and efficient with just the best staff who always have time to chat and advise you. All the cafe staff work very hard, but are all extremely pleasant and friendly. Donna actually remembered us from our last visit back in April, amazing, considering the hundreds of customers that are served each day. Food is good value, bacon and sausages tasty and hot. Well done M and S Dundee!

Long waits for food ( not good with a 2yr old). No tomato ketchup ( REALLY not good with a 2 yr old!). Multiple things on menu not available and the baked potato I had was lukewarm and very overcooked. Really not what we'd expect from M&S.

Popped in here for a quick bite and drink. There was a young boy on duty and he brought our tray to the table for us, very thoughtful and extremely pleasant. Cafe very clean with ample tables and chairs. Food was exactly what I would expect from Marks and Spencer good quality. Toilets within the store.

Just came in for a cake and coffee. Person who was making a coffee has absolutely no idea how to steam milk. The worst coffee ever!

The drinks delivery is slow, not the fault of the staff who appear to have many moves before your drinks are ready, table clearing is also slow.

Covid Rules Don't seem to apply Here..One Employee behind Counter Tried to Pass a Drink to another Customer between my Wife & Her Pal Olso her Mask was not Covering her nose .Whole time we were there not one member of Staff Sanitised the Tables just gave them a wipe we Same Dirty Cloth Won't be going Back

Very disappointing visit today. At 1 pm there were 3 slices of lemon cake and 4 croissants - when I asked the assistant why there were no choice of cakes he said they’re not putting them out any more but there were no scones either. I had to ask an assistant to clean a table of dirty crockery before I could get a seat. I then had to get some napkins to dry the table that the young girl had cleaned it was awash with spray. Simply not good enough - M&S Dundee at Gallagher park is a disgrace.

Pleasant cafe upstairs overlooking the Food Hall, lift available, free parking for 2 hours, the coffee making procedure is lengthy and this should be reviewed by management, having been in other M&S cafe's this problem does not only apply to the Dundee store.

Joined the queue with only three people in front, but it took so long to be served. Only one person seemed to be preparing coffees. Food was good, though - especially the children's toastie! Nice airy cafe as well.

We called in when in Gallagher Retail Park and usual very long queue albeit 5 staff on but only one on till who also made coffees. Cakes, teas and drinks were good. There is an old crane on rails here made by Babcock and Wilcox in Renfrew around 1900

We were visiting from out of town and wanted a quick bite. The service was so bad and employees so rude when we tried to order we ended up leaving empty handed. I will never go back.

We go here often. Coffee is nice and so are the toasties and sandwiches. The cakes and scones are delicious too. The staff are fantastic

Called in at M & S Cafe when my wife went to TK Max. Parking is free for two hours here but You need to take a ticket and display it. You will be heavily fined if you go over this time unless you paid for it. The cafe is pleasant for teas, coffee and soft drinks along with a good selection of cakes and pastries and sandwiches etc. Always seems a bit disorganised but they get there in the end. Good WiFi here on M&S WiFI. I also like the old crane here which was made at Babcock & Wilcox in Renfrew where I served my apprenticeship.

Visited for a quick coffee, only one member of staff behind the counter so a wee wait while she served the people in front of me, then another staff member appeared and helped her. Had to clear away dirty cups etc off the table before i sat down, noticed other tables were the same. Cappachino was hot and I enjoyed it. Staff need to be more on the ball re clearing dirty tables, which were eventually cleared by staff

The cafe reached by stairs or elevator is self service, making hot drinks seemed to take a long time, there is a selection of cakes, and scones, free parking with ticket from machine in car park.

By far the best cheese scones I have ever had. Friendly helpful staff and sa good selection of food.

Fairly Good Cafe above Marks and Spencer Store in the Gallagher Retail Park. You can park here free for first two hours if you pick up a ticket at the machines dotted around and display the ticket . You will be fined heavily if you go over.

Sunday morning visit. Good for a quick bite to eat will call again. No parking charge as first 2 hours are free as long as you put ticket on.

Visited here for a light lunch with hubby and grandsons today.....no information on the kids meals....apart from the items were included.....had to ask an assistant for the info....

To us, toasties should mean toasties (ie remotely toasty), but they were, sadly, like sludge. We left both (plus other equally disappointing offerings, totalling £21) and walked out. For a company that sells itself on food, M&S; has a real issue.

Far too expensive for what it is. over £20 for sandwiches and drinks for two people, and it was nothing special at all.

Only had coffee and scones. Scones are really good but pricey compared to other cafes in Dundee. Robbie's scones are double the size and not as expensive

This first floor cafe is a cramped corner area of the store with many uncleared tables. The food and drink is average at best, and the service mediocre. A place to avoid.

Visit this cafe quite frequently as enjoy their coffee, cakes and snacks. Lunch menu also looks inviting. Would recommmend it to others if shopping nearby.

Not a nice to go to at all.very expensive for what you get and it is not appetising at all.coffee was cold service was slow and could have been cleaner

I'm not sure what has happened to this cafe but it's no longer the place it used to be and perhaps that was reflected in the number of people frequenting it last weekend which, at this time of year, should have reasonably heavy footfall. It used to be packed out regularly. What happened to the comfortable sofas everyone used to vie for? For some reason, removed and now the place looks harsh and clinical. Two coffees ordered and served in takeaway ?? Recyclable cups. Why? We were sitting in....although regretted that. Tables dirty.....whilst staff stood around chatting, no teaspoons, everyone stirring drinks with knives....whilst staff stood around chatting. All in all, disgraceful. I see from the lack of response to these reviews that M&S; aren't that interested in customer feedback either. Like other reviewers have commented, it's not what you expect from M&S.; Won't be back in a hurry.

Saturday afternoon popped in for coffee & cake. Poor selection of cakes left. I had coffee & walnut - dry and couldn't taste coffee or walnut! Friend had lemon drizzle which was soggy - she couldn't eat it. Over £10 for 2 cakes a coffee and a juice. If the cakes had been delicious i wouldn't have minded but as it was it was dreadful!

Had baked potato not well presented also not overly warm a lot of tables requiring to be cleared which is always off putting

And so to good old Marks and Spencer's once again. First, as directed, we head for the upstairs café as my good lady likes a daily latte. I had the Chicken Rice and Mushroom Soup which proved the finest choice I've ever made (in that hallowed place, at least). The wife chose the English Sandwich Selection and kindly allowed me her Turkey (quarter slice) which, again, proved a treat. The staff in that upstairs eaterie were, as usual, helpful, busy, cheery and efficient and we were well and truly satisfied with our choice of venue. We headed downstairs then to purchase the excellent 'Meal Deal' offer. M&S; does it once again. Other supermarket's customer services could do well to check this particular branch out ... and emulate.

Fine place for a cuppa and and a cake to re-charge before continuing shopping. It's usually very busy. Nice cup of green tea with lemon and the cakes are nice. All in though a bit pricy but it is M

Metimos en para un bocado en la 11. 7. 17 y tenía un muy buen café y sandwichera. Noté las mesas no estaban lo suficientemente rápido y conseguir aclaro era difícil encontrar una mesa que no estaba sucio. Este parecía ser debido al hecho de que sólo había una chica que podría aclarar las mesas hemos tenido algunos ayuda.

Yet again freezing Arctic conditions, food and packaging on the floor, tables not cleared and not cleaned not what you expect from M&S

One thing about about all of Our Markie's ethos is consistent quality, top to bottom. At least they provide a very satisfactory place called a cafe for their hungry and thirsty hordes. A bit boring... But always clean and tidy, you almost know what's on offer before you get there, but you will keep coming. Some days we even say to each other... Hey I'll meet you at Markie's Cafe...A trifle dear...but always nice.

While shopping nearby ended up in the above cafe for quick snack and found it to be clean with staff who were helpful and meal was tasty.

A good place to go for a coffee or snack when you are shopping in the retail park. They had quite a nice array of cakes and coffees but there seems to be a problem with the speed of service. All the staff were pleasant but the layout behind the servery made for very slow progress.

Came for lunch the temperature was pure arctic in fact it was warmer outside when I asked a member of staff to see if it can be warmer reply was, we have no control over the temperature its controlled from Middlesbourgh !!!

Popped in for a cuppa and a bite to eat. WOW! cant get over how bad this M&S cafe is.Service is extremely poor, food less than average quality but the one issue that really got to me was how dirty the place was.The floor was in many areas covered with dropped food remains, and in other areas actually filthy. The tables that we watched being cleaned were barely wiped properly.The toilets werent much better with no toilet roll in two of the cubicles.What really annoyed me was that we watched two members of staff clearly employed to clear the eating area just standing around chatting with out any due consideration as to the level of hygiene within the cafe.I eat often in other M&S cafes - couldnt believe my eyes at the state of this one!AWFUL!!

Good for a simple lunch although you may have to wait as there is usually a hold up when ordering hot drinks. Most lunch times are busy and finding a table is not always easy. Mostly hot or cold sandwiches and various cakes and also a toddlers selection.Self service but staff will bring you anything hot that you ordered. 45 minutes should see you finished unless you are one of these people who sit and read the entire newspaper while nursing a small cup of coffee.

After waiting in a queue for 10 mins and then the member of staff who took the payment that had failed her course at charm school we ended up with a luke warm latte and dried up slice of sponge cake. Marks and spencer you need to sort this out shocking!

Good range of food and drinks but service tends to be a bit slow. Always been very busy anytime I have been in so they must be doing something right.

Like to visit here for a coffee or tea , great open space, if your lucky to get a seat at the window great for people watching, staff friendly and welcoming, always busy

The café is convenient whilst shopping in the store, like all M & S cafe's the preparing of teas and coffees take ages little wonder customers get frustrated.

How it takes 15 mins to serve up a cup of coffee is beyond me.The huge canteen feels cold and draftyKids meal is good value albeit a small selection for the mains

We visited at about 5pm and the only dishes available were Moroccan Tagine and Quiche or a salad. As it happens we weren't disappointed in the food but we expected more especially as they proudly proclaim that all the food served is available in store. So why couldn't they pop down stairs and pick up some more dishes to serve in the cafe? They didn't even have any sandwiches /rolls /wraps or other fast food as an alternative. The service was very good with the server offering to plate up my salad and bring it to me at the table. The food is not expensive but neither is it cheap for what you get. Could do a lot better M & S.

My wife and I decided to have the high tea for two at a cost of £12 all in. Not bad I thought. Having high tea in other places I expected a few sandwiches and a selection of cakes, etc. I was soon to be disappointed at what was provided as standard. For two people, we received one chicken sandwich cut into four triangles which was to be shared between the two of us (i.e. half a sandwich each), one scone each, one of the smallest cakes I have ever seen each (which I devoured in one bite), one coffee and one tea. I was gobsmacked at the rip off. How can M&S justify the cost for such small amounts of food. I will never return to M&S Dundee café.

We did not have a good experience here. Lots of staff behind the counter but they didn't seem to know what they were doing and had no system working. Long queue before you put in your order, then a long wait for your drinks. People behind us in the queue got their drinks before us then the staff realised we were still waiting but by that time they had forgotten what we had ordered. We got a half-hearted apology. Tables were not clean. The scone was OK but rather small. Coffee had too much hot water added and was weak. I expected better of the M&S cafe given the high quality of the food store.

Service is slow, the cafe itself can only be described as soulless and depressing. The food is basically what you can buy in the food hall but at a far higher price. The only plus side I can think of is that the kids meals are reasonably good value. However, the signage for what is included in a kids meal deal is confusing and isn't situated near the items.Not somewhere I would go voluntarily and a big disappointment from Marks and Spencer.

Coffee and cake was ok. Seemed a bit open plan but I think that is the idea. Toilets were a wee bit away but staff were polite when we enquiried.

I visit this M&S often and have no complaints. Snack and cake selections usually good and staff always friendly and helpful. It is bright, spacious and clean with plenty of seating. Yes sometimes tables need cleared but that is usually when very busy and I have always managed to find someplace to sit.

Have to say, £7 for a sandwich which is either bought in or made earlier is a bit of a con.Went with my wife and toddler left, all left hungry, would have been better in McDonald's

Visited with my daughter recently, overall disappointing.The venue is fresh and bright, clean, however clinical.I asked for something from the hot breakfast section, I was pointed to the selection of pre packed sandwiches and advised the food isn't cooked on the premises. It is reheated from the selection of pre packed goods. After selecting from the rather poor display given the size of the venue I handed over to be 'prepared'. I also chose a biscuit, and something for kids. Kids bagged selection was also a little disappointing. Raisins, cheese biscuit bites, chocolate lolly and juice isn't the best of selection. The reheated sandwich tasted ok as you may expect from markies, however this combined with the atmosphere reminded me firmly of airplane food.Prices weren't terrifying, however on the high side for, pre packed food.Would I return? Possibly, if I needed the loo, and I needed a quick fix of a pre packed sandwich. Or if I can't afford a holiday this year and want that airport experience.

Had to wait ages on a table, when we did get one it was dirty. The food was rubbish and over priced. Over rated, people always think because it's M & S it's good quality, not in this case. Sorry.
