M&S Cafe in Colchester

Festive sandwich with gravy but the gravy was £1 extra for half a pot which was hardly enough to dip your sandwich in. What a sad sorry place this has become with a long wait 2 of the ordering posts were out of order.

We arrived on Weds for the vegetarian breakfast to be informed it was not available as they didn't have ingrediants. We were told we could have a meat breakfast which is not very helpful to two vegetarians - avoid if you are vegetarian....

This relates to the new M&S cafe in Stane Retail Park, Colchester. Easy to order on the touch screen if you are IT savvy but what about the elderly? Ordered 2 flat whites and 2 eggs benedict. Both arrived at separate times and both were barely warm. The coffee was served in proper cups but no saucers. The eggs benedict tasted ok but the ham? had clearly come straight out of the fridge which made everything else cold.

Brilliant breakfast. The Eggs Royale I ordered was great and the best one I have had in Colchester by far. The service was good too. The young man that brought my coffee was really polite and helpful 👍

Visited the new Cafe at The new Marks/Spencer at Slane Place Colchester. I am in a wheelchair hence husband left me by a table and went to order. Cme back and said he had odered a toasted ham for himself and me a toasted cheese and mushroom. Paid by card and a lady delivered to our table. I took one bite of mine it was awful said to husband never had such horrible mushrooms so left most of it having removed most of the mushrooms. Upon coming home husband looked at our receipt and said they were not mushrooms in your toastie but Truffles. Personally would think they are an aquired taste what is wrong with good old mushrooms or give customers a choice?

Adhere to cov19 requirements hand gel and track a trace.very friendly staff polite and always helpful. Great choice of food pizzas were delicious with lots of flavours.clean restaurant staff always there to clean tables.will return again soon

No problem with our drinks and we learnt that they donate 5p for every drink and cake sold to Macmillan charity. The seating area is a little crowded, making it difficult to move around when most seats are taken.

The assistants in the cafe are very cheerful. They will carry your refreshments over to your table if you are unable to do so. There is a good variety of food on offer. Coffee is made fresh every time.

Nice food ,and good selection but always a queue ,sandwiches are delicious and good choice ,scones are great

Nice M&S fare but restaurant not that big and always busy. However, there never seem to be enough operational toilets.

This is absoloutly fine if you are popping in for a quick sandwich and a cup of tea friendly place and clean

Not the most fashionable place for a coffee, but reliable quality and in a convenient location in the High Street, and at reasonable prices. The clientele tend to be older, and perhaps the very slow service is best suited to the customers, although I do find it a bit frustrating.

As we were in the store and nearby we used here for a chance to sit down and enjoy a drink and a snack. Although the town was busy the cafe was quite quiet and plenty of choice of tables. We selected our drinks and hot snack which arrived quickly and as usual with M & S the quality was very good. Friendly and prompt service, clean environment, the tables were being cleared as patrons left and decent food make this a good choice for a chance to recuperate.

Meeting up with a friend, we decided to get out of the rain for a sit down and a warm drink. M&S often has a cafe and this, thankfully, was one that did. Despite being lunchtime, the queue was quickly served - which has not always been my experience in other branches. The menu was more or less standard, but as we were in need of a warm drink with a cake or similar that was fine. The cafe is situated on the first floor but lifts and an escalator are available. Toilets are also adjacent to the cafe rather than at the other end of the building in one branch I have visited. All in all it met our requirements and we sat for almost an hour chatting without depriving others of a seat. The young lady who served me was pleasant and efficient. I am happy to recommend this Cafe.

We had pooped into the food hall to get a special treat for NYE dinner. Town was quiet but M&S was busy so clearly other people had the same idea. Our 3 year old said she was hungry (and it was lunch time) so I suggested we popped up to the café. Whilst we just had pre-made sandwiches and snacks, the customer service, speed and friendliness of the team were all excellent, with the crowning glory of an excellent flat white and mocha. It's the little touches that show if your custom is welcome, and on this occasion a thoughtful extra biscuit with our coffees (so our daughter got one too) was all it took to show we were valued. Great team and friendly service. Top marks all round :)

Our first visit to this cafe and I will not rush back. The service was so slow several people in front of us in the queue left. It was not that busy and yet the staff could not cope with demand. Someone needs to take a good look at the management of this cafe.

my wife and I went here 22/10/17 for lunch , jacket potatoes and hot chocolate, hot tasty and served very quickly, top class all round

A very limited range, ok if you want just a hot drink and a cake, and don't mind waiting a long time to get served. Maybe the staff work to the rate the customers expect, and to be fair they are friendly to what appear to be a loyal cliental, but if you're in hurry, this is not the place.

Who ever rates M&S1; star? The food is lovely and the staff very friendly and polite. Minestrone soup was delicious served with two nice rolls. Seafood selection sanis moist and tasty. Was only one ahead of us at 1 pm on a Thursday. A few more at 1:30 but being popular should not mean 1 star.

Not our first visit here, had been a year or more, but sadly still as bad as ever, we joined the queue at 12.30, but gave up after twenty minutes, we were nowhere near getting served, it was so slow moving. We had to leave the store to use the toilets elsewhere, the M&S; store toilets were closed full stop, some building work is on going but not in the toilets themselves, half term week and elderly people and no toilets, the Café should have stayed closed. Came back at 1.30 and joined a queue of fifteen people, still it did not appear to be moving, the tables were filled with dirty crockery and the place was packed, gave up after 15 minutes. We returned at 3pm only because most other Restaurants/Café`s stop selling hot food at 2.30, this time round only five people queuing, but the staff most of whom had been on all day were counting down the time to their departure, service haphazard, ten minutes for delivery of hot food, the server obviously totally fed up of all the pressure the staff were under, the vacant tables were all overflowing with dirty crockery and discarded wrappers, piled high some of them, where customers had moved them from another table in order to sit down. The hot food was hot, but the drinks tepid, a very cramp seating area with little chance of getting sufficient clearance to accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility aid, when a customer asked a staff member of staff about the toilets they hid their face and tried to avoid the customer, the staff member was not from the Café but one of the sales staff. On our first visit, Management were overflowing on the Foods and one of them is responsible for the Café, but in spite of how bad things were, none of them made any attempt to ease the situation for either the customers or the staff working on the Café, or assist over the lack of toilets, best advice go elsewhere.
