Costa Coffee Drive Thru in Colchester

Went through the drive through today (3 April, 3:30pm). The drink (Frappuccino with cream) was given overfilled and not properly closed, it was spilling out and there was no way to close it. Spilled all over the front of the car while I was trying to close it trying to stop the sticky leaking but made 100 times worse. The car was a sticky wet mess!

I go to this Costa with my mum multiple times every week. We go early in the morning and the staff sound as if they have just woken up and just blank the customers. Also when they make the drinks they leave them on the side for ages rather than just passing them over. There is one lovley young fella who is always great but the other staff are lacking simple customer service skills.

Horrible experience, the inside was incredibly dirty, food all over the floor and service was absolutely appalling, we were served by Abbie who was extremely rude and very clearly didn’t want to be there!

Costa service is awful. We came last month and there was a super lovely girl serving. Hence we came back. Today, the rudeness… clearly understaffed otherwise I can’t explain the rudeness and stupidity of just serving simple hot chocolates and coffees. Won’t be back. Rather give business elsewhere. And I can assure it’s not the girl from last time. She must be new.

Very few gluten free options. There seems to be only g/f cakes, which tend to be too sweet for me.

Popped in to meet clients for a quick coffee. 9am arrival only one person serving, long queue of people waiting. Second member of staff arrives goes behind the scenes and isn’t seen again. As people leave dirty cups trays and food wrappers left on the table. Nobody to collect or pick up.

Wow...Awful..! 1) ordered for collection via app 2) went through drive through 3) waited at window having told them on speaker I was here for collection at the speaker/order point 4) then reluctantly, and resentfully and rudely was brought the drinks , with the comment ..' you were supposed to collect in store!! Why should it matter ... It's probably no more than 10 paces from the front counter to the drive through window. Poor execution, poor training, poor attitude. Will use Starbucks in future.

We were ordering an ice drink from them but instead of saying we don't have ice the woman was very rude in a lower case saying we don't have that. Didn't feel welcomed at all, I know it was new years eve and they probably wanted to be somewhere else but you shouldn't show it.

Great place to spend some time while waiting for the shops to open on a foggy Sunday morning. The atmosphere is really chilled out, you don't feel rushed or under pressure to finish up and leave to free up some tables. And the staff are great. Peter was really impressive, engaging with customers and being helpful. He even convinced me to get a Costa card after months of putting it off!

Popped in to this costa twice in the one day, before and after a day at colchester zoo. Friendly staff. Bought a few muffins, always nice. And a few hot drinks. I really enjoyed my drinks, I'm a frequent costa drinker but lately haven't been enjoying it as much but my drinks from this costa, I throughly enjoyed. (That's why I returned on the way home too) recommend this store.

Extremely poor service today at around 11.30 pm. The staff clearly forgot 2 items from my order. I waited for over 20 mins before going to the counter to report the missing item. The person was extremely rude and condescending. He kept repeating "wait for your turn" without even listening when I tried to explain that we've been waiting all this time. Not sure if he was hangry or just having a bad day. Anyways, I left with a horrible feeling about the Costa brand.

Terrible service. Was waiting to get some items they forgot after waiting initially for over 20 minutes. They clearly forgot about the pastries and the staff wouldn't even check to see if they missed something. There was this guy wearing headset who was rude and asked me to wait my turn when I wanted to check about missing items. The lady on the billing threw the items at me , even though it was clearly a miss from them.

Ordered drinks and a toastie, got to the table and both spoons we were given were dirty. Took them back to the counter and asked for two clean spoons as these are dirty! The staff member said "we are busy" I said that's no excuse for dirty cutlery! He then said well, I've not had time to wash up properly with an angry tone. All the staff member needed to say was sorry and give two clean spoons instead of answering back. Left a bad feeling and we left early.

Unfortunately extremely disappointed just could not park. I do not like driving and drinking . Was meant to be a break from a journey . It is 100% obvious that the carpark is not just used by costa as it was empty inside

I love this place, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the coffee is always the same wonderful taste.just wish the parking was easier

Best Costa in the area. We visit it on a very regular basis. The Staff are always friendly and helpful. We consider them as friends now 😃 Food and service always perfect.

Sunday morning 7.25h door closed, terrace full of dirt, won't open, though no customers in drive thru... Very bad service😡

Nice coffee and a some food great service

We stopped here a few days ago with my partner, drive through, ordered our drinks and just be normal. When we go to the window to get our drinks the staff gave us two cakes and thanked us as we were the first customers that day (around 12pm) who was not rude. The staff was very friendly and we think we only be polite and normal was really sad to see that other people would be rude to them, a lovely place, coffee was perfectly made. Always, always be nice to the staff people, we should not get a cake just because we are finally friendly, we did appreciate the gesture! Super lovely staff

Love your coffee and regularly have your pastries but in all the years I’ve been coming to your stores I’ve never had such bad service. To the extent I felt that it was too much trouble to serve us and we were made feel unwelcome. Even a smile from the girl (who was rude) or the manager was too much for them. Very disappointed and upset as I used to love going there.

I only use the drive thru. The staff are great, service is quick. I use this Costa more or less every day and the coffee is very consistent. BY FAR the go to Costa in Colchester.

Just been to drive thru and the lady on tills was absolutely lovely nice warm friendly smile fast service and of course food and drink was lovely I didn’t get her name

Everytime we go to Costa, there’s either a machine not working or drive thru closed, this normally happens every Sunday and it’s been a pattern for last couple months.

Took a while to order. And took even longer to get what you ordered. We only ordered two large caramel lattes and seemed to take forever. The coffees were average. But the wait was abit too long!

Fairly average Costa coffee experience in terms of food and drink. The staff were lovely though even during the busy time of day.

The slowest EVER branch of Costa Coffee. Four staff members on duty. Place 9/10ths empty. They left a disabled woman's coffee getting cold while they chatted and did hot food for another customer. When it was my turn to be (eventually) be served I asked for the staff to take the disabled woman's drink first. The miserable look was to kill from the member of staff. Very, very poor Costa - a damage to the already under-fire brand.

Always nice to go here and chill for a bit.love the toasted cheese here.

Difficult to find a parking space

Spent a good time in the cafe. 4th visit, will go again.

Avoid getting Costa delivered through Uber Eats or Deliveroo from this branch. My "large Cappuccino" that I paid extra for arrived 5 minutes ago and was either never filled or has been half drank by the driver.

Good standard of food, drink, service & cleanliness

Update most of the friendly staff have unfortunately left, you be lucky if you get any eye to eye contact now a days!! Very disappointed today, busy but no clean tables, saw people leave the queue due to long wait. Toilet out of order, very little food on display. Using take a way cartons to eat in, other customers had proper plates, cups etc.

Staff great and coffee is amazing

Ordered with the drive thru today, service was friendly and quick, however there appeared to be a bogey on my takeaway cup which was disgusting and put me off my drink entirely.

Queues here are awful and very slow its like a canteen nd staff not bothered and always running out of food......I go to starbucks more often now, shame it used to be OK but has gone downhill fast.

Service I recieved from Lauren was outstanding, the banter and genuine smile made my day

Very slow Sunday afternoon service, unhelpful staff, was painful getting served! Overpriced cakes.

Coffee ok, but the premises rather grubby inside and strewn outside with fag butts and litter.

Quiet Costa coffee shop with usual array of food additions, including sandwiches. Relaxed atmosphere. Coffee good as ever.

Do not attempt to use their click and collect as twice now my order has been placed/confirmed and subsequently cancelled - told the online service is down! The quality of chicken in their toasted sandwich is poor, chicken is black (the cheapest meat). Dirty container provided with part of a muffin inside! Ginsters sausage roll ordered online but I was told in store they did not stock such an item!

Its a drive through very handy for a quick coffee.

Not a bad Costa, pretty standard. Car park is a pain thou, it's always full, even when Costa is empty.

Woman with glasses didn’t fancy giving me my muffin alongside half of my drink, a smile wouldn’t go unnoticed aswell.

The dish washer was broken, they gave us paper cups which was fine but the young lady who served my large chai latte cld've been a bit nicer

It's like any other Costa. The prices are shocking and the food is full of fat and sugar but the service is lovely.

V-e-r-y s-l-o-w serving of drinks. People in the queue behind us walked out due to the wait. Food and drink to the usual costa standard so the 1 point awarded for that.

It was Costa, like mcd you know what you're going to get the world over, so a safe if slightly overpriced bet, like any global chain

We were very well looked after. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino and a gluten free mince tart. They heated up the tart and served it really prettily with cream. My friend had a decaffeinated American and a custard tart. Her tart was also heated up. We were also given a little glass with a dairy alternative to cream which was also very tasty.

Once again, they are not serving coffee. 8.15 and they say the coffee machine will only open at 8.30. What about making filter coffee and at least offering something to the people.

If I could give 0 I would I ordered a meal, the delivery time kept changing. Then said it was delivered. Not to me! By this time the shop was shut

Tollgate Costa (by Princess Charotte). Sat outside v pleasant. Sandwich v nice as was hot chocolate.

Boas opções de cafés, hot ou Ice. Para acompanhar, sanduíches que podem ser aquecidos na hora, bolos e tarteletes. Porém como era fim de tarde, caminhando para o encerramento do horário de funcionamento, a maior parte dos itens, já não estava mais disponível. Minha família e eu tomamos, café original, capuccino e comemos sanduíches e muffin de limão siciliano.

Well organised, good food and of course coffee. Get the lock fixed on the toilet door.

Only visited her to grab a coffee while my partner popped in Next to try on some dresses, not my cup of tea. I'm so glad that I grabbed a coffee from here as the young staff where very helpful and polite. I was served by a trainee who was being show by a colleague how to use the machine. He was very chatty and made me feel more than welcome. It's not often that you are served by someone who really seems to enjoy their job nowadays, Stone, at least I think that's what he said his name was, made me smile. I wish all cafés where as good as this one especially the ones in Southend and Baslidon. Well done that lad.

Visited this store some 3 years ago and found the cleanliness standards very poor and thought I would give them an opportunity to show that me they have improved but to my astonishment it still the same (see photo). I visit my local Costa in Chelmsford on a more regular basis and find the standards very good but the management at Stanway, Colchester don’t have the same quality aspirations, what a shame.

Much faster than Starbucks which we have renamed slothbucks and the drinks are always consistent. However, lately the service is a little frosty and verging on rude. Poppy needs to cheer up or find a new job and the one with the nose ring needs to stop whispering about customers…..we can see you!

Polite staff , great coffee and plenty of parking

Orders are always taken quickly in the Drive thru part. Drinks are generally very hot and tasty. If you go in to eat its nice inside, clean, and tidy. Staff just occasionally are not always as friendly and on previous occasions we have had drinks missing toppings and when asked for thrown on top and all over the tray! Generally stick to Drive-Thru.

Great place to stop for coffee on the way to and from Mersea

Busy and parking is limited at times. Restaurant was clean and fairly busy. Drinks were good and hot but didn't come with the accompaniments as shown. Ie no gingerbread person with the gingerbread latte and thats pretty important in my world! So I could only give 4*😂

Same old story nightmare to park as always ,lovely inside but was nice and quite staff friendly as usual !But I must stress even though I specifically asked for extra hot I could of drank it straight down cappuccino’s are never ever hot enough so once again left disappointed

I just wanted to thank the team at Costa today. After collapsing, they were so attentive, offering me water and making sure I was okay before the ambulance came. Such a nice and friendly team. Shame I couldn’t enjoy the drink I ordered but will be back soon! :)

As far as Costas go this is a good one

I never left a feedback for this business but it is a time to do so! Every day I visit Costa for breakfast and I am never disappointed, the team is fantastic reactive and ready to deal with every guest needs witch is a bonus 😃 a special mention to Carlie, every time I walk in this busyness she is always smiling and ready to tackle every day problems, she is an absolute credit to the team and I would love to see her one day managing her own Costa. Good luck to her and the rest of the team ❤️

Parking is terrible. Fine if you use the drive through as you would expect. However, the retail park company allow local offices to park in Costas car park all day and this causes long waiting times often, especially at lunchtime for the very few spaces that are left. The retail park owner should introduce restricted timings so Costa customers can park in THE COSTA car park.

Worst costa I've been too. Ordered two caramel cappuccino extra hot. Once got it and driven off went to drink it. It was like drinking a cup of sugar there was so much syrup put in there and it was luke warm. Had to throw both drinks away as they were undrinkable.

Great staff and a modern/comfortable setting.

Looks like a relatively new Costa. Staff are very helpful, lots of seating and parking. Worth popping into if in the area.
