What can I say? Prescot will truly see the end of several eras when Ray’s bakery is sold. Pies, cakes, celebration cakes, bread, scones, mince pies are truly second to none. Many of the cakes are the same recipes I enjoyed as a small child. My aunt used to send me with her shopping list when I couldn’t see over the counter. When I was at high school we would get off the bus on the way home and buy a bag of “brokes” - better than a lucky bag! A “Ray’s Buffet” has been the backdrop of many family occasions, happy and sad. You can actually increase the turnout to a funeral in Prescot with the promise of a “Ray’s Buffet”. The cafe was lovely and is much missed. I will be stocking my freezer before the closure!

Great food & cakes & great staff but it’s closing as Rays end of September & some chain I’ve never heard of are taking it over... it’s doubtful it will be to the standard of Rays & food won’t be baked on the premises.... hopefully it will still be good food under this new chain ?

Go in there pretty frequently.Always get a chicken, ham + leek pie. They are lovely, but today i got one and have just eaten it and i have to say i was very disappointed.Normally they are full of chunks of chicken and plenty leek, today it was nothing like that.Yes there was chicken and leek in it but nothing like the norm.Still tasty but considering the pies are now £2.10 they are not what they used to be. Maybe it was just that one like that, i dont know but i wasn't happy.I know everything has gone up but that's not good when the quality has dropped. Disappointed customer today. Hopefully Rays will address this or they may lose their name for quality pies and coinfectionary

This is the second cake Ray's have made for my family, this one being a Peter rabbit design for my grandson's first birthday. I took a picture to the shop and it was replicated exactly as the picture. Absolutely beautiful, we were very pleased with the cake. I would recommend Ray's to anyone, the staff were so helpful. Thank you so much.

Because the 10 and 10a busses stop outside! I've never sat and had a coffee in there, but whenever I've been in, there's always a queue. The last time I went in, I treated myself to a box of four cakes, just over a fiver, and they were excellent, value and quality, and something special. Viva Rays, I say! It's the Jewel in the Crown of Prescot.

Just had a very tasty breakfast barm in rays coffee shop Prescot. I have been going into rats for donkeys years and the quality never fails. The barm was delicious and generously filled alongside a hot latte. The server was friendly and helpful. There are other new coffee shops in Prescot with more up to date surroundings but not as good quality as rays. Highly recommended

I have to say I am addicted to Ray's meat pies! They really are the most delicious I've ever tasted. It's also always a pleasure to visit the café next door to the shop which is quite old fashioned and obviously has a steady supply of regular visitors that have probably been going there for years; you can see why as their bakery is so good but as well as that, the staff are very friendly and efficient. The only reason I've rated Ray's 'very good' as opposed to 'excellent' is that their prices are a little on the steep side and the chairs in the café are very uncomfortable. They either need replacing or seat cushions adding. On the whole though, a lovely little old fashioned shop and café.

Firs thing to say is the 3 Stars are for the customer service certainly not the food. Rang Ray's today to see if I had missed the deadline for Christmas orders - the lady on the other end was so abrupt & rude. She talked over me like she had a script she needed to read! I just wanted to know deadline day & she said "you can't order over the the phone you need to fill in the order form & pay in full in the shop" really grumpy! So I visited the Prescot shop - bought some goodies for the day (sausage rolls second to none)!!! 5 stars. The best meringues, egg custard slice & trifles ever! But when I asked about ordering I was told my another grumpy lady, that I could only order what was on the form - everything else you had to take pot luck for. I can understand some system is needed, it's a busy time, but as there is only 3 of us for Christmas - a minimum if a box of 10 cakes pre order was no good to me & you couldn't pick what you wanted! You couldn't order pies, sausage rolls or bread!!! What's that all about! Wasn't happy - came away disappointed. To top it all off, they've stopped making two if my faves - used to love the walnut cakes & tarts with raspberry or lemon curd in & almonds on the top. Also wish they did the Sherry Delights again @ Christmas. Love Rays goodies, & I will still shop there as I have done for 40+ years! But sort that customer service out please!

There's usually nothing better than trying a place when you hear good things about it, and after a couple of recommendations I decided to see what M.Ray's food was like.M.Ray has been in Prescot for many years, one half of the place is the bakery to buy and then take things away, and the other half is a little café. This review is purely based on the bakery side but I did think the café looked nice and cosy when passing. As this was my first (and most likely last) visit to M.Ray I decided to buy a selection of things to take home. Firstly, the sausage roll was quite meaty but cold when I tucked into it a couple of minutes after leaving the shop. It was also bland and greasy. The meat & potato pie (the recommended pie to try!) was also average and no better than your standard supermarket variety. The steak & mushroom pie was eaten by my wife, and she said it was "nothing special" and "didn't have much steak in it". The meringue was quite heavy and had little cream in the middle. However, the small white baps were light and tasty.Overall then, somewhat disappointed and I can't see myself returning just for the barm cakes.

Called in for lunch with the BOSS, we both had pie and chips, the BOSS had the syrup pud for afters. This is typical Brtitish cuisine , good grub reasonably priced. Service excellent and quick . We bought cakes to take home from their shop next door. We will be back.

We were recommended the Oriental Tea House by a friend several months ago, however, after giving it a try, we are totally addicted. The won ton soup is amazing, as is all the meals we have had so far. We used to order takeaway deliveries on occasions, but now it is a couple of times a week. Would highly recommend.
