Mr Cod Fish & Chips in Surrey Heath

See my previous review dated 2019; everything about this chip shop remains first rate. I’ve made numerous visits since last review and had fantastic food every time. Far superior to most chippies I’ve been to. I’m amazed at some of the poor reviews on here. All I can say is, some people will never be satisfied.

Placed an order for 80 covers for a charity event. Mr Cod made the ordering and collection service easy, and the food was delicious. Really professional service - highly recommend

Really good fish and chips from here. Cod, chips and mushy peas cost £8.80 which must be the best value available locally. I remember quite a few years ago this place was not great but things have clearly improved since then. Highly recommended. The fish was freshly fried to order and had light, crisp batter, and the chips were nice and crisp and non-greasy. The portion sizes were generous too. It was nice to see the option of pollock on the menu as an even more affordable option in addition to the usual cod, haddock, plaice and scampi etc. If I had seen that before ordering I would have gone for that! The only room for improvement I could think of is for paper bags to be used instead the plastic one I was offered which would have caused the food to go soggy on the way home due to the trapped steam not being able to escape.

Lady who serves there always looks so sad. But decent batter on things, not greasy. Chips are pretty good too

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had

I love my fish and chip shops but when they supply cheap food I have to speak out. The Saveloys are Tasteless, the Sausages are Tasteless.... the food took 20 minutes from a walk in, even though they were not that busy. If they cant sauce or test the food they serve then there is no way I'm interested in returning.

Update: their hygiene rating has now gone up to 3 ---- Has a 1 Rating for food hygiene and they proudly display the sticker on the door! Why would you eat there?!

I really craved some scampi and my normal fish and chip shop oysters on the old Dean were shut. So I went to Mr cod down the frimley road. Ordered just scampi which cost £5.99 the measly amount I received was a joke, not happy at all, will never go back.

Great fish and chips, highly recommend, good size portions and reasonable price. Wouldn't go anywhere else now.

My wife and I had lightly battered cod, chips and mushy peas from Kings last night. Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had the pleasure of! Very large pieces of cod with crispy batter and wonderful chips. If driving back its best to open the lids of the plastic containers to avoid condensation from the steam, as I did. Excellent quality! 👍

Popped in wanting to order a takeaway one evening. Woman at the desk seemed to be bagging food as walked in and there was a man behind cooking. Waited patiently she’s noticed I’m in there and finished bagging the food and gave order to a delivery driver then turned around and started something else! Was stood right in front of her could not be missed at all but not even a simple “I’ll be with you in a second” nothing!!! Just completely ignored that she had a customer waiting! Gave her another chance to finish what she’s doing and still nothing! 15 minutes and not even a hello! Finally gettin impatient due to lack of acknowledgement asked her “could I please place an order or shall I go elsewhere?” To which she replied “ye go”!!!!!! It was like she didn’t want anyone to order! Absolutely rude! No customer service what so ever!! Was the first time I’ve been there and thought I’d give it a go but after that awful customer service from that disgustingly rude women behind the till I would never go back there again!! I was horrified at her attitude and will be telling all those that I know around there to not order from there either. They don’t deserve any custom in these difficult times when most takeout places still appreciate your custom and happy to serve you this place ignores you for 15 minutes then tells you to just go somewhere else! Support another takeout place that welcomes you... definitely not this place!

Usually the food is good. When chips are done right, theirs is the best in Farnborough, Camberley and Aldershot - crispy outside, fluffy inside. The service is usually slow. Even when you order on phone and come at the pickup time they have stated, it is never ready! They wait for all the chicken to be finished completely before putting another batch on - very annoying as sometimes you find they don't have enough chicken or the pieces that you like. They also need to sort out the pigeon problem above their doorway! The food quality and taste just surpasses the negative points so I do go back to this place

Came here after a long time. I used to come here 2 times a week for pizza . Disappointed to find no longer do pizzas . The were the best. We had fish and chips but unfortunately it was terrible . We won't be back . Sorry

Reporting to food safety standards, handles raw chicken, member of staff ‘rinsed’ hands for 2 seconds under water then handled chips and other utensils. Disgusting!

Love the fish and chips from here, they're always freshly cooked and although the price of their food has gone up, it is still the best fish and chips. Whenever, I want a chippy dinner, I always go to kings, no where else. The staff are friendly too!

I've purchased fish and chips from Mr Cod on about 3 or 4 occasions now, over a period of about a year. My food has always been freshly cooked (both the fish and the chips) and to a very high standard. This does involve a wait, so I suppose if you're in a hurry this is not the best place to come, but it is worth the wait if you are able. I used to use the chippy a bit further along the Frimley Road on the other side and, whilst the chip portion sizes are larger, they and the fish are not nearly as well cooked, having been resting for a while (unless they've changed of course). I have always found the Mr Cod staff to be very obliging and the premises appears to be very clean.

Hardware shop but the man who served me was very offhand. Not rude but just not particularly helpful.

Ordered 2 x LARGE cod and 1 large portion of chips, when it arrived 1 LARGE cod and one small, called the restaurant and was told one was X LARGE complained that wasn’t acceptable!! so they hung up, on our way to them they phoned back and said “we will bring another piece of fish, driver was very abusive when asked “would you accept it. Will NOT use them again

Never disappointed with an order so they have become our regular go to. We love the chips, they are cooked just right and everything is fresh as far as fast food goes. Not greasy and is good value for money. Only thing I would say is we set a time to collect the order and I arrive at that time but are not given it till usually 10 mins. However the staff are lovely there.

When I came back 12 minutes later (8pm) I had to wait a further 5-10 minutes because the food wasn’t bagged up yet or ready. I had to wait a couple minutes before I even got served and it is advertised on just eat that you get a free bottle of a soft drink when you spend £30+, which i did not get either. I put it in the notes section like I was advised to.

Excellent Fish and chips. Well cooked and presented. We are now regular custmers. they are the best in town. Jack Morath

Good service to my family. Visiting for couple of years. My children love to have it at lunch time and dinner as well. Road side packing very nice.

Fish is very tasty, cooked fresh. Masala fish had lots of flavour. Chips were not great, taste like microwave chips. But is a take away restaurant so my expectations were not high. Would recommend.

Terrible undercooked chips kids behind the counter with attitude.customer service does not exist. Tryed to return my undercooked chips and was told they are cooked by some jumped up school girl.the owner was just as bad.they gave me my money back with some arguing.dont go there.

Absolutely awful food! Old chips that had been re-fried god knows how many times. The cod was so old and chewy! Not to mention there was hardly any cod in there just batter! Had to throw the lot in the bin. Worst chippy I ever been to! If I could give this place a 0 star I would.

This used to be a good fish and chip shop. Young teenagers with bad attitudes are now working the counter and are usually messing about, getting orders wrong and being rude. When our order was messed up (realising after we drove home so drove back again) the lady behind the counter was just as rude and clearly didn’t care about rectifying it or the distraction of all the kids friends hanging out in the shop! Shame it appears to be a kids club with awful service now. PS - Got a refund and went to Kim’s fish and chips in Frimley - brilliant service and lovely food!!

Food used to be good years ago but recently it is going down hill. Service is terrible. 2 servers didn’t have a clue what to do. Got orders wrong. Didn’t know who had ordered what and they thought it was funny. If they didn’t mess around as much they might get the orders right! Queue of people waiting. Terrible for a Friday evening. Cook is rude and unapproachable too.

Portion sizes are good. Been coming here for years now. They still don't sell gravy though and still have no online presence so I can suggest they sell gravy!

These two chains dominate the local area. Mr Cod edges it for me here but that's due to the way it's run. Lovely fish meals. The usual choice. Parking nearby and a bus route passes by.

Never going anywhere else. Mr COD in Camberley is the best Mr Cod ever. Good was amazing, price was good and staff were helpful and friendly. No need to order from anywhere else. Takeaway will always be from there from now on. 10/10.

Brilliant food - ordered for 12:10 and it was ready exactly on time, hot and tasty food. Big portions also at reasonable price :)

The spicy chickens were way too salty. The other chicken barely had any taste to it and it did not smell appetizing as if the whole chicken was instantly microwaved from frozen, hence removing all its taste and thrown into the fryer. The only thing that lives off to its name is the 'Chips'.

Was a bit late but the food is good quality and never had a problem with yourselves before. Very friendly delivery driver.

Yo estaba de camino a ver a mi compañero que estaba en el hospital y yo necesitábamos algo bueno para comer antes de mi visita y entretenida pescado y patatas fritas que cazamos Sr. Cod. Está inspirado en un genérico para llevar con una amplia gama de opciones - no sólo pescado y patatas fritas, hamburguesas y pizzas, pero incluso. Si te quedas en su núcleo, aunque estará muy contento. Mi cod y patatas fritas eran excelentes, el antiguo con pasta suaves y exquisitos pescados, estos últimos eran sencillamente genial patatas fritas. Pedí sal y vinagre, pero este fue olvidado y me di cuenta solo me faltaba cuando abrí mi comida un par de millas de distancia. Estaba preparado a pedido, así que prepárate para un poco de espera y de £16.30 por un regular cod y patatas fritas, creo que este es una excelente relación calidad-precio!
