Kingfisher on the Quay in Surrey Heath

- Food served quickly - One barman friendly - Location beautiful outside in sun - Current works on carpark look like it will improve parking I came with my 2week old baby and partner on a Thursday at 2pm. We were asked to sit in the bar to wait for a table outside even though we counted 6 clean tables ready out there. All but one staff were not friendly or helpful. Food was quick but overpriced for what it was, quite unappetising/unappealing. We got told off by a staff member for moving tables but had no choice as we were told to wait for a table in the bar. My partner does not want to return. It was a shame because it is a lovely location.

We went for a family meal with 17 of us. The service was brilliant from the entrance and welcome, through the service by all the team. The food was all good, and everybody was happy.

Good food, great setting and attentive staff

Made reservations via the phone and highlighted allergy and other requirements. None of these were conveyed to the Restaurant by the central reservations team. Not a good start. My wife selected a dish that had pastry that was overcooked/ burnt , even the waitress said it shouldn’t have been served. Rather than having dish replaced She decided to eat what was served rather than have it replaced and eat separately. When the bill was presented no allowance had been made for what the waitress said was unacceptable. The Manager arrived with an attitude and said she couldn’t do anything as she hadn’t seen the food and it could have been replaced. After a discussion she ungraciously returned having deducted the cost of my wife’s dessert. The attitude of the staff changed considerably after we said we were not happy. If the issue about the Tart had been handled professional we would have given the restaurant another chance but as it is we agree with our friends that have advised us not to go to this restaurant.

Great location/atmosphere and wonderful food. Service was fantastic; all staff were welcoming, friendly, engaged with a smile and positive attitude. Rob provided service to our table and he was brilliant! Also, one of the best gluten-free menu's my wife has been provided with.

Venue is lovely, staff are good, but far too expensive for food. A burger, fries and a coke almost £25!?! Totally not worth it.

Lovely restaurant, great location, food and staff. We hired the bait box function room for a birthday celebration, with buffet for 25. Had an amazing afternoon, highly recommend.

We have been regulars at this restaurant for some years and it has never let us down. Recently took some Swiss friends here for a meal, they were really impressed. It has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere and is beautifully situated especially in the summer months. Often served by Kate who greets us as old friends and not just another customer. She is very efficient and cannot do enough to ensure our visit is pleasurable

This restaurant is my favourite in the area by a long shot. Its quirky interiors make it cosy and welcoming, and the views of the quay are such a lovely bonus. I often visit, with work friends or my children and it’s never disappointed me! The children’s menu is nice and the portion sizes are very good, like an adult meal really. The food is delicious but make sure you save room for pudding! The pudding menu is amazing, especially the sticky toffee and chocolate brownie! Lovely staff too, everyone is smiley and happy to help.

My fiancée and I had our engagement party in the Bait Box and we can't say thank you enough to Alex and her team for all of their help. The service we received from the moment we made our first enquiry to the day itself was exceptional. Alex and the team went above and beyond to help us plan and worked with us to make this day even more special. A special mention to Ollie who met with us just before to finalise the details. Thank you Alex and your team, you were amazing and we can't recommend you highly enough!

Had a lovely tender roast lamb dinner served to us by Audrey, a very friendly member of staff, who made us and our Labrador feel most welcome! She brought a bowl of water for him (and some dog biscuits too!) Despite being busy, service was speedy and efficient. Have visited a number of times when visiting relatives in the area and will definitely return!

We booked a table for lunch today. Upon arriving, half the car park was closed. It was full with more and more cars arriving! Nowhere to park at all! We were given no warning that there would be limited parking, ridiculous!! Everyone else in the car park seems to have booked a table for lunch too. Why allow bookings when you know there's such limited parking. We ended up leaving. My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew has driven down from London to have lunch with us so this beyond disappointing!!

What a lovely restaurant. We enjoyed a family retirement Sunday lunch last week. The service was brilliant (Alfie was our waiter) . This young man was absolutely brilliant, attentive, professional and a credit to the kingfisher on the Quays. The food was delicious and well presented. Thank you. We will return.

I just wanted to give a big shout out to those who made our Birthday Lunch last Sunday so enjoyable. I can't speak highly enough of our dedicated server Chloe, for whom nothing was too much trouble. We booked the Bait Box a few months back for a 90th Birthday get together, and from the outset both Adele and Alex have been amazing. They have quickly responded to any questions raised and happily accommodated the tweaking of guest numbers etc, making the whole process unbelievably stress free. So thank you again for making it such a memorable day!

🍽️ Food: Good options like pasta, red meat, and chicken, but limited vegetarian choices. More healthy and gluten/dairy-free options would be great. Menu changes in April 2024 made portions smaller with fewer green options. 🍵 Tea: Limited variety; more options would be nice. 🏞️ Ambience: Warm, cosy atmosphere with large windows and a lovely mini-lake view. Service is great with complimentary bottled water. 🍖 Lamb: Delicious with gravy, 8/10. 🐟 Fish & Chips: Small portion, 6/10. 🍝 Pasta: Good but could use more flavour, 7/10. 🍔 Hamburger: Poor ingredients, cold onions, unmelted cheese. 🍰 Dessert: The blueberry and lemon Eton mess is a great deal at £5, 8/10. Coffee was fine, but berry crème brûlée was disappointing, 4/10. 🛎️ Service: Slow due to lack of waitstaff. 🐾 Pet-Friendly: Only in some areas. Great experience, but room for improvement.

I found the food enormously improved compared to last time I visited (last summer). The atmosphere remains fantastic and amazing was Rob our waiter. Extremely attentive and kind!

Terrible rude manager !!!! Usually love this place and always recommend and bring family who live out the area ,due to the lovely position of the restaurant and quirky decor! However after mentioning we loved the burgers to the waitress but unfortunately the Gammon Was over salty way saltier than usual and the chicken burger was inedible and burned !

Had a lovely family meal at the Kingfisher this evening. Wendy was so lovely, giving great recommendations on food and was very personable and attentive. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit for any occasion and ask for Wendy!!

I have been going for a good couple years. I did start to feel as if it wasn’t as good as it used to be. However tonight… the food was unreal I couldn’t give you a single fault. Our waiter Wendy was incredible, she was checking on us making sure we had everything we needed. The food came quick and was amazing. Really enjoyed the experience. Definitely recommend, and hope you get Wendy.

Lovely feel to the place and staff were lovely. Unfortunately the chicken burger I had was truly disgusting. In hindsight I really should have sent it back but I really didn't want to cause a scene. My husbands lasagne was 'ok' but a pretty small portion. I came here in the summer and had a much better experience with the food, not sure whether it's a change in management, different chef or what? It's so local to us but unfortunately won't be returning.

I had the market fish… it was the smallest meal I have ever had at a restaurant. Fish was a tiny square, one mouthful of kale (no spinach) and a few new potatoes … nothing like the photo on the website. Absolute only one star and that’s more than deserved. Left restaurant still hungry … worst meal I’ve had there, will not be coming back.

We have been coming regularly at least once a fortnight for years(!) However, recently we feel that the food quality is slipping. The portions have been getting smaller for some time (eg the fish and chips), and I have had two weeks of poor meals - the escalop milanese was cremated, and the steak and stilton pie had one tiny brocolli and a minute amount of kale... Pity as the service and atmosphere are still great/

Really disappointed, we booked a table for 4pm on Sunday, went to place my order, they didn't have the IPA beer, they didn't have any Calamari and no roast chicken left, they only had 1 chocolate cheesecake sphere left. I ended up ordering the buttermilk chicken Milanese 🥴 - was that a mistake, a dry piece of chicken on some skinny fries.

We attend kingfisher's almost on a weekly basis for their Sunday roast. The food is always tasty and the service is also friendly and quick. We will keep coming back as long as it stays that way. Visited for the first time again in several months and quality of food is still great as is the service. Update: This place has changed a lot. The Sunday roast is almost half the size of what it used to be a few months ago. The prices also have gone up, while the portions have gone down. I don't expect we'll be returning any time soon.

We attended today at lunch time for our managers 50th birthday lunch, and the food was lovely! Our waitress was Wendy and she was attentive, and very welcoming and engaging whilst we were there. Thank you so much!

I had the Wagu burger very nice, but the plate looked empty, but with a bit of garnish would have made it look nicer.

The food portions were too small and therefore overpriced, however the quality was excellent and flavourful. The staff were very friendly and accommodating while the restaurant had a great atmosphere and decor. A characterful find and lovely location beside the lake.

My wife and I have been to this restaurant several times for lunch and have always been impressed with the service, particularly when served by Wendy. There is a good choice on the menu and the prices are reasonable, and represent good value.

Charlie is always amazing. She is so welcoming and friendly. She remembers my allergens and is always accommodating in ensuring what I can and cannot eat. Charlie is fantastic member of the team.

Found this place by chance when my daughter and I met half way for lunch. Absolutely perfect and love the quirkiness of the decor. Although it is very big, it is sectioned into smaller areas, which makes it intimate and cosy.

As always, what a lovely experience we had! We love the character and atmosphere of the Kingfisher. Wendy, who served us definitely went the extra mile, tending to our requests. Thank you Wendy. The chips are to die for! I will not recommend the Steak Frites - quite a lot of gristle. Wendy graciously replaced the dish with another order.

Gorgeous little hideaway on the back end of Camberley. Quirky little shanty hut with a don’t judge a book by its cover look. Stunning interior and beautiful in the summer and spring to sit deck side watching the watersport activities on the lake.

Visited here for a drink and lunch mainly to catch up with some friends/former colleagues. We all agreed the ambience, food and drink was excellent, but most of all the service from our server, Wendy was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so friendly and helpful - a real asset to the place! Can't wait to return.

We had gone for Christmas dinner with my colleagues. We had pre-booked and definitely will recommend pre order. Restaurant was full and beautiful interesting interior design. I had duck , green peppercorn and orange terrine as starter, roast turkey for mains and Christmas pudding for dessert. It was definitely worth the visit, satisfying meal and maybe little too much for me 🫣. Would definitely come back in summer to see amazing view of quayside.

What a great night on Friday 20th December with a few friends at Kingfisher on the Key. Being around Xmas you expect a sort of mediocre experience with with both food and service where ever you go. However nothing could be faulted at the Kingfisher, the atmosphere was great, the food was excellent and plenty of it and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Much appreciated team at the Kingfisher, thumbs up all round. Cheers

Quirky restaurant with lots of character. Had a lovely Christmas menu & was very impressed with the dairy and gluten free options! We prebooked our table and meals with a deposit. Staff were very attentive. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Plenty of parking, although we went on a stormy day and there were large craters and deep puddles in places.

Wonderful food, atmosphere and incredible service for a large party of nearly 40 persons. Our hostess Aeryn was simply outstanding and made us feel special. We will be returning at the soonest opportunity. Thank you all.

Had a pleasant business dinner in November, both myself and the guests have been superbly attended by the staff which made sure the our glasses were not empty, overall dish quality was medium.

Great food, with a great atmosphere and very friendly and professional staff. Our favourite place!! Edited!!! Booked a table for the 02nd of December for my birthday, left stood for minutes without anyone greeting me even though they had staff walking around. The food arrived before the drinks and way to fast suggesting it has been prepared in advance and therefore it’s not fresh. Everything was a rush around and even the birthday cake was brought to our table without anyone asking for it. We really felt we were being pushed to get out and they spoiled our evening by doing so. We did left a tip which was more as an obligation than a suggestion for a good service, which it wasn’t. It’s a shame as this used to be our favourite place for a night out, but I don’t think we will go back.

On my fifth visit recently they had increased the prices across the entire menu and what a disappointment with the food I ordered. I ordered fish with baby potatoes and wilted vegetables. The fish was nice but it was a simple piece of steamed cod for £17 The potatoes were awful …. how can you not cook a potato…. the portion of vegetables were tiny and not wilted but soggy and overcooked. I have very little appetite but the portion was. only fit for a child. The quality overall was poor for a simple dish and an extremely high price. The prices for the Christmas menu are exorbitant either ALL Christmas menu starters at £10 before you’ve chosen a main or dessert. Such a shame the food has gone downhill and the prices have been highly inflated.

Except from the very nice food and service the design of the restaurant makes a unique atmosphere and makes it very cozy.

We had grown tired of the Quays over the last few years as the menu never seemed to change and nearly all of the small plates available tasted exactly the same. Also, food was very mass produced and the same sauces, sticky coatings and mayonnaise were on every dish (it seemed like anyway). I’ve been back to the Kingfisher on the quay three times over the last few months and each time have had a pleasant and improved experience . Yesterday the staff were noticeably more polished and attentive . In our last visit, Evie was particularly good, very attentive and made the time to speak with us and engage with us as customers. Had a roast dinner and the plant based burger, both of which were very nice . Roast could’ve done with being a little bit hotter with more gravy but when I asked for additional gravy, it arrived piping hot moments later which was great! Small plates are still looking a bit mass produced and repetitive so we avoided those on this occasion . Would be good if they could get those sorted. All in all, a pleasant experience, although quite pricey . Two drinks each and one main course each for two was £65. Keep going though. It’s nearly there and we will be back again soon 👏👏🙂

Food was great but portions quiet small.

You could always be sure to get well cooked pub grub, but by our experience today that’s no longer the case. If I had been paying all the food would have gone straight back, potato’s not cooked,pork overcooked and very little pork, vegetables soggy and puddings warm. If their aim is to get as many as possible through the door then they are succeeding. I will not be helping them to that goal in future. Come back Derek

What a lovely evening we had a this Restaurant, they have created the perfect atmosphere and vibe to allow us to unwind and enjoys an evening with friends. The food was impeccable and portion sizes were generous too, and the service couldn’t have been any better. Our server was friendly and attentive and gave us helpful recommendations when we were at a loss of what wine and desserts we wanted. The Manager Alex came over to us to check that we were having a good evening and spent some time telling us about some of the exciting changes being made. We are particularly looking forward to the live entertainment in December and have booked already. Alex and her Team clearly know what they are doing to create an amazing customer experience. Thank you so much! Ps. Top tip- Grab a blanket and a Baileys and head out on the decking that overlooks the stunning lake! It was lush!

Excellent service, food we had was very good.

I have eaten there many times and always enjoyed the experience. This revue is more of a warning to the owners than anything else. The food is fine for pub style . I understand prices have risen but the Quality must be maintained if a business is to survive. We both had fish and chips and I have seen more fish in a fish finger. The chef should be ashamed to pass this to customers. I regret not taking a photo. Value for money is the watchword and there was little value in this visit. What a pity. Will I return? Not sure.

The Kingfisher is a family favourite whether celebrating a special occasion with friends or for a quiet family meal out. We always receive a warm friendly welcome and the food and service never disappoints. We love the cosy atmosphere especially on a cold wet day. We were particularly grateful to the team today who went the extra mile to get the fire going for us! The menu is varied and there is always something to suit everyone's taste. Today I enjoyed the delicious Sunday roast of pork belly followed by an equally tasty hazlenut creme brulee. As always the service was excellent. Thank you for another enjoyable and top rate experience at the Kingfisher. We very much look forward to our next visit.

This is laid out really nice here, but the food is very average don't get me wrong it was served to me just fine but definitely average. I will probably be back here because it is a lovely setting and the service was good on a summer day. This place would be fantastic to sit outside.
