Mr Chans Restaurant in Charnwood

Ordered a takeaway via Uber eats. Delivery within timescales however good b disappointing. Ribs looked like a very pasty looking soggy mess. Prawn toast tasted of vinegar?House special chowmein included awful looking grey seafood (see picture) and was small portion. Garlic beef lovely to taste but extremely small portion and literally just beef and small bit of spring onion, no veg. Small portion again, half a Tupperware tib at best. Overall not one to be repeated

Excellent Sunday buffet with lots of variety and very tasty dishes. Very relaxing atmosphere with brilliant staff. We even had room for the cheesecake and ice cream.

Visited on 08/09/2024 for the six pm buffet sitting. Very poor quality - luckily the quantity and variety was also very poor so couldnt eat much anyway. £33.00 for a 'meal' for two. Gave the same comments when I paid the bill - wasnt worth passing comment as sthe woman taking the money was not interested Never to be repeated and definitely not recommended.

We were in Loughborough for one night. We’ve had Chinese takeaways at home but had never eaten freshly cooked Chinese food in a restaurant. What a revelation! The flavours were so much better and the texture of the food was much more appealing than any takeaway. Even the prawn crackers were the best I’ve ever eaten. The waiting time was very reasonable, given the food was cooked to order, The prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes were ideal. We chose 3 dishes between 2 of us and that left us feeling perfectly satisfied. And then to top that, the lady who served us was really friendly. All in all, an excellent experience - thank you.

You did not put satay sauce on my chicken satay, clue in the name? I thus did not eat the plain chicken skewers. Not even sure how you manage to do this, to be honest.

A lovely warm welcome from our hostess, as she showed us to our table. Mid week so very quiet, but that was no problem. Menus provided and drink orders taken. The menu was vast, none of us had visited for a long time. We each found a dish to suit, my hubby tried something different and was very impressed. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The food was generous portions, piping hot and all of us said, compliments to the chef, absolutely delicious. Very good value for money. Before we left because it wasn't busy we were able to have some of the art work explained to us, as we are all very interested in other cultures. Great evening, for us all, with delicious food, in a very nice place, with a lovely lady taking care of us, and a lesson in culture and history as well. Perfect.

Gorgeous meal. As always we all had set meal C and everything we had was amazing. Definitely ate too much. This is quite out of our way but we always return here.

As alway Mr Chan's did not fail to proved excellent food or service. A real hidden gem. Will be back to visit again and again.

We placed our order, and the starters came out in reasonable time, then it was a good hour before our mains came out, From sitting down at half seven you don't expect to get your main meal at ten o'clock!,.Food was lovely but service not good at all.

We visited this Restaurant as the so called hotel we were staying at closed their restaurant. It was a great pleasure and a very fulfilling meal we had at Mr Chans. Magnificent food, freshly cooked and all served with a smile from the Staff. Thank you Mr Chans Restaurant, you are a great asset to Loughborough

Hadn't been here in a long time and when I asked my daughter where she wanted to go for her birthday she said Mr Chan's. The decor was very old fashioned, the toilets were below average and there was simply no atmosphere at all. We had to write out our menu requirements on a piece of paper and even then the waitress managed to bring us someone else's food. The prices on some of the items were way over the top, lobster at over £30. However the drinks were reasonably priced. We waited ages for our drinks and food. The food was the saving grace, it was very good. The duck and sizzling beef were the highlights. Sorry but for a special occasion this just didn't hit the spot, won't be back anytime soon.

Take away was great. Would defo order from there again, maybe the best Chinese take away in Loughborough. Collection was very quick and service was great.

We have been going to Mr Chan's for ages before lockdown. First time back for over a year and it is still brilliant!

We have visited a few times and every time the food is stunning and the service is great. We visited again last night and the restaurant was very clean and safe to visit. The food came quick and was amazing. I really recommend the beef with pineapple! Will definitely be visiting again soon

I’ve never left a one star review before but this had to be done. Worst experience ever. 3 and a half hour wait for food, half our group was ill after. Staff were so unprofessional and rude. £26 for a set meal that should be worth 2.60. Awful awful awful. Will never go back.

We arrived at 1730 to celebrate the wife's birthday with family when the restaurant had just opened and it didn't get off to a great start as our drink order arrived incorrect. There was confusion with the food order with the waitress. The starters came separately and for one of our family members, she watched us eat most but not all of ours. We asked if we could have the remaining starters and mains at the same time to prevent more waiting and for our starved family member to get the chance to taste food. By 8pm, ONE hour before closing we asked the waitress where our food was and she shrugged her shoulders. We asked a different waitress and we got told again that "It's on it's way" Enough was enough, we left the premises.... will NOT be returning

Mr Chan’s is the one restaurant in our homeTown that keeps our lives together. It’s our go to restaurant when we reunite together and it’s the first place we are returning to once CoViD is over. The food is great, the beer is great and Mr Chan himself the living legend, what would we do without him? Always a good night here and the fish at the front are just as old as I am... thank you for your service. Don’t forget to touch the belly of the Buddha on your way in and out.

Regular visitor to Mr Chans, absolutely love going here as a family or with a group of friends. Ordered a take away , the beef and cashew nut was so delicious and the sweet and sour pork was lovely. Good size portion, the staff are efficient and always meet our needs. Big thumbs up!

This place has been around for ever but great food nice pleasant service , good value for money .The decor hasnt changed since the 70s but gives it a unique chinese experience . Sadly not many good chineses around but the food is well cooked and typical , definately worth a visit.

Frankly, Mr.Chan restaurant is highly recommended. I came here for several times, and I ordered different food every time. The food is great which make me satisfied, I specially like the chicken with sichuan sauce, coz the seasoning is on point. I also love the staffs' courtesy, as they're always smiling, which make me feel comfortable. Love it!

First and last time to Mr Chan’s, food ok not the best. Place dated, smells and staff didn’t really knew what they was doing. Also a tray of dirty plates and bowls where put next to us as we ate our meal. Not good

We love this place and come here often, would recommend to anyone. It is great for my partner who is vegan, there are plenty of options. The staff are super nice and service is fast. I love the kung pao chicken but you honestly can't go wrong whatever you pick! Will be back soon.

It’s a year since we last went to mr chans and seems to have gone down a bit since then... always seemed quite reliable but a recent meal took 30 mins for drinks to come and nearly 1hr 30 for food and then 2 waiters didn’t know what the dishes they had brought out were!! Distinctly poor.

Should have been a busy night, it wasn't. Man sat complaining about the time of his takeaway. Sat over an hour.We ordered duck in plum sauce, and chilli and salt chicken. Both turned up 10mins after rice, crispy beef, and a Luke warm chicken chow main.Duck came with just syrup on, not plum sauce, not the plum sauce you expect or dip your duck pancakes in, not what we've had numerous times before here.Man still waiting for chineseSalt and chilli chicken, was 90% salt and chilli potatoes! Sent straight back.Duck we were told was plum on quick return... just had a lemon garnish, was yellow and tasted of lemon syrup. I ate it because I was getting annoyed by man not getting his takeaway.Man was then told at 9:15 after an hours wait that his dinner was ordered for 9 collection.. so they were 15/20 minutes still late.Chicken never arrived, but was attempted to be charged. - PROBABLY PUT IN MANS TAKEAWAY!Went to get the bill because table service even though quiet, was non existent.Was then told to go to China next time by the part time girl. I explained that we've had lovely meals in there previously but tonight was poor, Very disrespectful, very rude and I shouldn't have paid.China would be very disappointed with her and mr chans flying their cuisine flag tonight.We wont go back, nor would I advise anyone anymore. No takeaways were taken or brought out in our time there.Man maybe still awaiting his takeaway.... probably with my salt and chilli potatoes!

Have been here loads of times and always good. Not so last night. Booked with a group and service was very poor. We waited ages for food and when it finally started to arrive the serving staff didn’t know what all the dishes were and had to go back to the kitchen at least twice to find out. My dish was also not great with very fatty pork although some of my friends seemed to enjoy theirs.

We decided to try the Sunday buffet, all you can eat for under £20. there wasn’t a lot of variety but the food that was there was fresh, very tasty and excellent value for your money. There was a party of 10 of us and we were treated well.you get a nice view that over looks a little of Loughborough. I will add if you are not good on stairs then avoid this place.

Atmosphere is great if you like a quiet and welcoming environment...service is always polite and fast, food is always delicious, I have got to say though that the crispy streaded beef tasted like it was more batter than beef but it all goes down the same hole! would recommend for a weekday outing maybe not so much big events like birthdays etc but if you going out as a 1, 2, 3 or 4 then its your place.

Been goin a long time to this restaurant and still a really good restaurant for Chinese food! Service is good.. decor a bit tired but can’t fault the food-delicious!

So glad we reserved a table as the restaurant was surprisingly busy -always a good sign.

Went for the 3:00 Sunday buffet! It was virtually empty. Food lacked choice - virtually nothing for vegetarians. They asked if we wanted soup (only one type available) - it arrived after we had finished dinner. Food was poor and lukewarm at best.

Been here a couple of times in my lifetime which are 2 times too many. How they stay open beggars belief. Absolute rubbish.

We found this restaurant from a directory. Up on the first floor over a parade of shops, it is easy to miss. A large first floor restaurant (100+ covers?) with a cheap public car park opposite, it is reached only by stairs with no lift. Nevertheless, several other diners were using sticks and crutches and struggled with the stairs, and the place was nearly full. We were warned in advance that food service would be slow due to volume. It was very slow, but the staff were very professional and the food excellent. When we left, having taken over 3 hours to get and eat our "banquet", it was still busy but other local establishments had closed. It suggests this was the best place around! We could not fault either the food or the actual service - just the speed! Far from disabled friendly, but worth the struggle! Worth going back if in the area again.

Pleasant Staff, the rest was beyond bad. Service so slow it was unimaginable, when some of the "food" arrived it had no taste what so ever, rubbery chicken served in cold fatty water. Just had to leave. We where hoping for a nice family dinner. Gutted ! We went to pay for drinks and to their credit staff would not take any money, I got the district impression I was not the first . On a Saturday evening, we should have been asking ourselves why the place was virtually empty. Just don't.

It wasn't very late when we entered the restaurant. There were no other customers except one gentleman who was waiting for his take-away. One waitress was busy arranging tables and continued doing that during our meal.

This is the first time we have been to Mr Chans for the Sunday buffet in about 3 years and I would say it's definetly improved since our last visit. The staff were lovely and the environment was very clean and well laid out. The food was incredible and well presented. The only reason I haven't given 5/5 is because it did take a while for the staff to keep the food full so there was a bit of waiting around but this wouldn't stop us visiting again.

Got the feeling that this was the cooking of a chef that was going through the motions.the food was bland with little flavour and the ingredients were either overcooked or frozen.there was little seasoning or spice and too large a menu to give care to the dishes.this used to be a good venue but has lost its way.

We had a family meal here on Saturday night. It was quite busy and so had a good atmosphere. The food was good, with plenty of choice. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. On returning home I realised I had left a bag behind. The manager very kindly offered to drop it off on her way home. Lovely people - thank you!

I am visiting Loughborough with my dad and saw this restaurant and we decided to go for a late evening meal. First of all, the welcome by the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The menu was extremely diverse and vast, which lead me to debate what to order (which never happens) ! The food came quickly and was up to an excellent standard. I thought I would give the chopsticks a go and, just a little side note, the instructions on the chopsticks packaging helped me to actually use them correctly! That made me very happy. Would 100% reccomend this restaurant

We decided late on to book a lunchtime birthday meal which would include children and people travelling from away.

While walking around Loughborough one evening, had an urge for a Chinese meal. Having been to Loughborough many times, we realised that we had never been to Mr Chans, but that soon changed.

This is a great ‘old style’ Chinese restaurant-and that’s meant as a compliment! Had a meal for 10 last week and service and food was impeccable . Lovely choice and great value -with the added bonus of overlooking the fair. Excellent!

Upstairs restaurant with easy parking across the street - a 2 minute walk away. We have been here many times and always found the food excellent, including the Sunday Buffets. Good choice and good value.

Have been using Mr Chans for many years admittedly the service is sometimes poor but the food is good .However after waiting over an hour for a takeaway & receiving a very poor attitude from the Manager.After travelling 8 miles with the takeaway when we unpacked it was clear it was completely different to what we ordered & paid £50 for ! To make matters worse after trying for 10 minutes to get through there was no answer .I am sure it was a bad night but while we were waiting a couple walked out & others had been waiting a similar time hopefully they got the right food.

We have seen this restaurant a number of times and noted that they serve a buffet menu but only on a Sunday. We planned trip to the cinema to coincide with a meal at Mr Chan's. Upon arrival at 6pm we were very surprised to see that the staff were still setting up the buffet area given that the menu clearly states that the buffet starts at 6pm. After a prolonged wait the restaurant patrons were allowed to use the buffet. The food was not great, some was tasty but on the whole it was disappointing and small quantities; based on other buffet restaurants that I have been to. We will not go here again and would not recommend it.

Large restaurant so always possible to get a table at short notice. Great buffets i.e. Sunday lunch and good value for money

After arriving at 7.30 and getting our order taken about 10 minutes later - we were still waiting for our food at 8.40. on asking the manager how long it would be, we were told 20 minutes max. We walked out at 9.10.

I usually don't like food in Chinese restaurants so was very surprised when I ate here that I totally enjoyed the food. Chicken chow mein, chips, rice, sweet and sour chicken and prawn crackers. Food was tasty and plentiful also great value for money. Service was spot on and staff were very pleasant. Would highly recommend and will be going back soon.

Me, my wife and my close friends dined here many, many times. It was always a good place to meet and eat. We always enjoyed our visits. The food is usually good, the service is usually good and overall, it was always reasonably good value for money. I used the Take Away service recently and it was good food and reasonbly good value for money.

Me and my husband absolutely love Chans, we really enjoy the food and the staff are always so friendly. When the restaurant is busy it can be a wait for the food but it’s always worth the wait. We will certainly continue to go there for an evening out.

We went for a charity buffet at Mr Chan's and we had a wonderful time. The food was excellent and varied.

No nos hemos ido a este restaurante en muchos años y como el restaurante íbamos a estaba cerrado, decidimos visitar el Sr. Chan, guau nos lo pasamos muy bien, la comida era la más auténtica comida china fuera de Hong Kong. Nos gustaría volver otra vez.

Comí aquí con mi pareja cada semana y hemos hecho durante varios años. La calidad de la comida presentada sólo puede ser descrito como de primera clase. Mi compañero ha comido en muchos restaurantes en China, Hong Kong, Singapur, Macao y ha probado la cocina china de calidad.

He estado viniendo aquí desde finales de los años 70 en Hong Kong la encarnación de la fuente. Es una tradición de fiesta el domingo, normalmente la visita con 1 a 3 de mis hijas para el buffet tenedor. Los precios son razonables, la comida es muy sabrosa (y cubiertas - periódicamente por el periodo de servicio). El lugar es limpio en general y el personal acogedor y atento.

Acabo de tener una comida para llevar y fue, de lejos, la peor comida que he probado. El pato crujiente no era crujiente pero grasienta, grasos con apenas cualquier carne comestible. Las tostadas de gambas era claramente hace horas antes y cuando la grasa poco...

Nos un grupo de tres, incluyendo uno vegetariano. El restaurante tranquilo por la noche del sábado, pero habíamos reservado una mesa temprano. El servicio en el restaurante es genial. El personal es educado y atento sin ser entrometido. Las opciones de menú son brillantes; hay muchas cosas para elegir y una buena selección para vegetarianos en particular. Pedimos dos entrantes, uno para compartir - y las porciones eran abundantes. La comida, especialmente los rollitos primavera de verduras, era fresco y caliente. Los platos principales eran, de nuevo, generoso. Tuve carne frita y estaba delicioso. Había suficiente arroz para compartir y, de nuevo, todo estaba fresco y a la orden. Aunque no debería haber, de postre. Dos helados y una refresco. Encantador. Toda la factura era de menos de £70, incluyendo dos copas de vino y dos cervezas, y el personal era muy dispuesto a paquetes de sobras para llevar a casa. Dejamos una propina generosa, que era bien merecida. Este lugar se merece más visitantes que tenía en esa noche de sábado.

Claramente de la media, pero no está mal. Las dos cosas que tuvimos que estaban por encima de la media, las costillas de arranque y la cáscara suave entrante de cangrejo. El resto era simplemente normalito!

4 of us went to this restaurant on Friday, I expected it to be heaving with people out celebrating the festive season. Unfortunately there was only a party of 8 others guests and 1 couple, hence not much atmosphere. However the staff were attentive and the main course food was delicious. So much so, we ordered a desert, what a terrible mistake that was. The cheesecake was well past it's sell by date and came on a plate with no presentation. Another dessert, Rice Krispie squares, was covered in coconut and sesame seeds, a very odd combination. I shall think twice before visiting again.

Worst Chinese I've ever had .chow main was bone dry ,miserable woman serving didn't even offer any other drinks .will not be returning here

A reasonable choice of dishes, not the greatest variety but adequate, helpful staff. Buffet replenished fairly regularly. They did not try to sell us too many drinks which was good baca use these usually bump up the price of a meal and when it is a dozen of you soon mounts up.

Used to go here occasionally for the Sunday buffet, after not being in a very long time, i must say i was very underwhelmed. Very small amount of options, average taste, can get much better from other places

After getting a walk in takeaway and getting home found my vegetarian wife who order the same meal over the last 12 years found her meal had chicken and prawns in her vegetarian Singapore NoodlesThis is not the first time this has occurred, previously replaced by taxi delivery this time refused last time we use

Haven't eaten here for absolutely ages, but ate here this month for a family birthday.It was a Monday night, and the restaurant was very quiet, but the food was excellent. Great tasting, well presented and in good quantities. We had a set meal for 3 and got to choose 4 dishes. Each was the perfect amount for us and reasonably good value too!Won't be leaving it so long before we come back again!

I visited on Sunday at 3pm with my daughter and we can both say it was the worse Chinese meal we had ever had. The fried food was especially horrendous and the flavour was indescribable. We complained but were still charged the full amount despite it being obvious we had left the food. As I have not been here before I am not sure if it was a one off, however, I really would not recommend the Sunday buffet.

My fiancé & I visited on a Sunday evening and popped in for the buffet on the off-chance. We thought £11 per head was good value. While the buffer was not huge, there was plenty to eat for starters, mains & desserts, and we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was fairly quiet & did not have much atmosphere, but nevertheless it met expectations for a no-frills good value buffet. We would be unlikely to return though.

I've been eating here for many years now, both takeaway and eat in. Sometimes the waiting staff leave a little to be desired, usually because they're new and haven't quite got the hang of things. And sometimes the vegetarian menu is a bit unadventurous, but they have one and that's still relatively rare. Generally though, they've been pretty consistent. Mr Chan also has a "proper" Chinese menu for homesick students or more adventurous locals. You just can't go wrong eating here, really, as long as you can get up the stairs.

We went to Mr Chans for the first time in many years on Wednesday night - We booked for an early table just after 6 and were for a start the only customers. Its a large restaurant and the heaters hadn't warmed the place up so it was a bit cooler than hoped. Evan so we had good service, good food and good sized portions - the only portion that we found to be small was the size of Prawn Crackers which takeaways give out for free ( and a large bag too)- Otherwise that whilst it cost more than out usual Wednesday nights out I was more than happy - We didn't have and sweet because we had taken starters which were fine.

not a massive range of food like the larger buffet chains but it was good food, quality rather than quantity, worth going for sunday buffet

Booked for 20 on a saturday night. very slow service.the meals that arrived in one go, the food was lovely. but over half of the food was served with large gaps, so was cold by the time the rest of the food arrived.we managed to negotiate a 40% discount, but would much rather have enjoyed the evening I had been looking forward to.Will never go there again.

We have been using Mr Chans for a number of years. We have never been disappointed with our meal and service until last Sunday January 24th. We had looked forwards to our 3 pm buffet meal. On arriving people were leaving which we thought strange. The buffets are 12 noon 3 pm and 6 pm - approx.There were another couple in there and a family group dining. We ordered a drink and went to the buffet. The food had obviously been standing there for some time. The dishes in the hot plate were dirty around the edges, food had obviously been added to them, they had 't been changed. We came to the conclusion that the 12 noon buffet must run into the 3 pm one with no change of food at all. To add insult one of the waitresses got the Hoover out and started cleaning whilst we are eating. By now the other diners had left and we were on our own. The waitresses never looked us in the eye when paying, or serving us our drinks. We could have complained but didn't see any point. We definatly will not be returning.

Mr Chans has been around for many years and I thought it had a good reputation. I must say that I was very disappointed. I went with a group of friends. Bar service was quirky and friendly. There was a language barrier regarding table service and so no real interaction. The place was pretty empty for a Friday night, not much atmosphere and the decor was pretty outdated. We were seated on a large round table which suited our needs very well. It had a lazy Susan which meant that we could taste each other's food and made it easy for those sharing set meals. I am not sure how others in our party felt but my food was just tasteless - soooooo disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it, I am afraid and certainly wouldn't be rushing to go back again.

Was recommended Mr Chans by our hotel and was pleasantly surprised.On the way there our Taxi driver told us that there were better restaurants locally but has the restaurant had been there over 20 years it must be good!On arrival it felt like I'd gone back in time as the decor etc looked like it had been unchanged since the restaurant first opened and I must admit to feeling slightly nervous at that point. The menu is very comprehensive with a combination of standard dishes and a number that up never heard of before. Drinks were ordered and we decided to stick with our usual selection of dishes rather than be adventurous. Portion sizes were good and quality was second to none. A bill of a little over £80 for 4 adults including drinks seemed very reasonable and I'd certainly have no hesitation in returning.

My daughter and I recently stayed at the Links Hotel for an Open Day at Loughborough University. We drove into town and walked the length of same to find a somewhat tired looking building housing a Chinese Restaurant called "Mr Chan's". We entered the restaurant by stairs and were really pleasantly surprised at the traditional Chinese décor of the place. It was extremely clean, beautifully decorated and the waitresses were extremely attentive. We ordered our meal which was absolutely delicious. I can't remember enjoying a Chinese meal so much; my daughter and I thought the portion sizes were very generous and the meal was good value for money. We had 4 dishes (2 meat, 1 rice, 1 noodle); 2 drinks and the balance was less than £30. It was the highlight of our trip.

I have not been here in years but it was just as I remembered it . Excellent food , great service , lovely and friendly staff . We went early about 6pm and got a table straight away had a window table . Giving us a view of the wet weather outside and a lovely cosy setting inside . We had a drink each , duck for starter a main and rice plus one coffee it came to £32 which I didn't think was to bad. People say it's expensive but it's eating in not take away prices plus being served that makes all the difference and no pots to wash . Will be going again . Mrs Chan is very professional she had a very large table of men come in as we finished , it didn't faze her . Glad we were leaving the noise level rose considerably but a nice meal .

Food was terrible & expensive. 3 out of the 10 of us ordered sweet chilli beef & it was very hot & spicy (not sweet) All chewy fat with no beef, rather like pork scratchings in a hot chlli sauce. We were offered another dish from the menu but I myself declined as I already felt ill by that point. Poor service as even the waiting staff didn't know which dish was whichWe all felt ill & bloated & certainly won't be returinng & we definatly wouldn't recomend!

cannot recommend this enough. Went at Christmas time with a party of friends and there was plenty of variety and well cooked food.

hi iv lived in loughborough for over a year now and never been to mr chans i went there for the first time lastnight 22/05/15 and the service was excellent the food we ordered was served very fast and it was fabulous the staff were amazing really friendly and always avalible even when busy i will definitely be recomending MR CHANS to my friends and family and i will most definitely myself be eating there again brilliant place *****

Came to eat hear today as a family for Mother's Day booked out table well in advance to get there at 3:05 mind u our table was booked for 3 to find they hasent even layed our table stood around WAITIN for them to do it another ten mins eventually sat n started eatin the buffet I say buffet it was foul.... Cold food .... Greasy noodles dry chicken ordered our drinks as none of the food is labeled so u don't kno whAts mega spicy to what's mild... Say Waitin 15 mins for drinks with burnin mouths .... Asked waiter 3 times for our drinks kept bein told wait on moment ... Got sick of waitin and told him I want my drinks... For the main lady to look at us in complet discust that we even got slitly angry as all we was doin from the start was wait.... How about Mr chans waits and reads the reviews ... We will never go back there as for Mother's Day meal we will b bookin at the laughing budda next time as there 5* every time ...

Visited on a Sunday night when the buffet is on, but we ordered from the a la carte menu anyway. We had booked in advance and were shown to our table as soon as we arrived, and the service was good throughout.The best part was the duck pancakes that we had to start, which were moist and really tasty. I had the drunken fish fillet for my main, which is not something I would normally order in a Chinese restaurant but I fancied something a bit different. Unfortunately it was a bit bland for my taste. My girlfriend reported that her main was also a little underwhelming.The gents toilet was pretty shabby, with paint peeling off the ceiling. The dining area is in better condition, but perhaps showing its age slightly.

Had a lovely dinner here,it was our first time eating there and it was most enjoyable,very tasty and can't wait to go back

Booked table for 6pm for the Sunday ALL DAY! Buffet, Arrived at 5.55pm and the place was completely empty. Staff took drink order within 1 minute and dumped stale basket of prawn crackers on the table. It was only then that we noticed that there was no food on the buffet at all. I understand that no one wants food lingering in the Bain Marie’s for hours on end, but by the time they had actually put out any food at all we had been waiting for 40 minutes. The staff are functional (just doing what is needed) the food was very average and very greasy and the atmosphere was none existent. Would not ever return to this restaurant.

Disgusting food, watery curry, rude unhelpful staff, I ordered red bull and it was flat give it back and asked for the can instead but when I got the can it was still flat so looked at the date and it was 5 months out of date!!!!!!! Cokes were flat overal just horrible outdated restaurant in need of a health safety check

Red bull was out of date by six months!! watery curry, rice was watery yet States its egg FRIED rice it was boiled everything, honestly ruined my night, asked for chips and got fried hair and chips, stay awau at all costs, needs someone to go and see what's going on in the kitchen.

Tried for first time. First impressions - needs a thorough redecoration, current ambience is grey, sombre and tired. Bit depressing really.Staff friendly - young girl waitress still had her school uniform on (8pm at night)!! Two people serving, older lady quiet but polite.Food: Had ribs to start which were very, very bland- not much taste, but ok, because I was hungry.My chicken and pineapple/veg' fried rice was acceptable. Chicken was succulent. As was my wife's chicken curry, so no real complaints. It was ooookay.Total bill with two cokes and lemon and lime was £19 (including my AA Gourmet food membership 25% discount).Not the kind of place you'd rush back to, or take friends to for something special.Question - why the house bricks and drainage pipes in the fish tank?? Unimaginative and inappropriate fish dwellings methinks. Says it all really.......

Call in here now and then on my way home from Leicester Tigers, if it's a Saturday afternoon match (which is rare with the TV influence, but enough about that) and my wife has accompanied me.We used to live in the Loughborough area in the 80s (and my wife is a Loughborough girl) and this was ALWAYS the Chinese Restaurant to eat at.Admittedly, it's like you've taken a ride in a D'Lorean and time warped back to 1985; the decor is very dated, but the food is pretty good.Staff were courteous, we don't book, we turn up and hope, and have never been turned away. The set meals are very adequate, plenty of courses and you choose (1 meat, 1 starter, 1 rice, 1 vegetables) and pay as per the numbers in your group (not like most, where the set meal for 1 are these dishes, set meal for 2 are these dishes (you get my drift?)All in all, yeah, it's not a patch on the Chinese restaurants in Soho, London, but it's really pretty good

The food wasn't too bad to be honest but the service was terrible, no customer skills at all, they have a large fish tank ( not many in there and dirty) so my boys went to have a look at the fish, one of the staff starting shouting at my boys "sit down with parents". will never go back, very unfriendly place, disgustingly dirty too

Was welcomed and seated by the staff, an although my order would take long since 50 students were dining in the back of the place, everything went smoothly. The Chinese staff is mostly 'efficient' but my waitress was actually quite friendly. Enjoyed my meal, which was very simple but with an OK taste (the special chow mein is noodles with mainly meat, had hoped for a good combo with veggies as well).All in all an average but OK meal, which was in my case a bit more pleasant because of the friendly waitress.

I have been here for a dinner with people from my hall on Loughborough University campus.Food was good and the place was very big and quiet. I didn't like that the waitresses brought a lot of things (all the menu) at the same time and we didn't know where to put them baceuse the table was full.In general, I liked Mr Chans Restaurant.

Staying in Loughborough for the weekend, we arrived a bit late on the Friday and not looking to walk too far from our hotel, found Mr Chan's on the doorstep. We were warmly greeted and found the restaurant not too busy for a friday night but they did have a 20 strong party in which we thought might affect service. We needn't have worried because service throughout the night was excellent and very friendly. As you'd expect in a chinese restaurant massive selection but we went for one of their set meals which allowed us a good choice for our mains. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed our meal and the evening. Very good value and would be happy to highly recommend Mr Chan's.

Visited following a recommendation - but certainly won't be recommending. The food was greasy and cheap cuts, but inflated prices. I have never had yuk sung where the chicken was just skin and fat - no meat. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be if it is authentic - but certainly not for my pallet. 4 of us went and had starters and mains - we left before completing the dishes but still had to pay in full even though we had voiced our distaste. No matter - plenty more Chinese restaurants to give our custom.

This is like stepping back, right back that is to the 70's, the décor has never changed and is extremely shoddy which is a bit off putting, its a huge place with no atmosphere, the staff were pleasant enough though, the food very average not very tasty and quite greasy, don't think we will be going again.........sorry.

We arrived for the afternoon sitting at 3pm there was only 2 other couples there which worried us .I have been here many times in the past as the buffet was the best around and was hard even to book in as so busy but what a change one small pot of soup and a choice of about 12 other things inc sausages chips sweet and sour sauce and no chicken balls etc to go with it small amounts of food with no signs of any fresh food being put in we thought we are here now let's give it a go how wrong was we the food we got was cold .When I called the waiter over and told him he said no its warm but he did check some food and took it away as it was cold then a woman come and stirred the food round and told us it was OK I went up tryed some it was cold in the middle the waiter said it's OK !!! Well enough is enough we walked out never to eat here again or recommend it to any one ever think your times up Mr Chan's as nothing has changer there in 15 years except the food ....we did have a fab meal at the Toby carvery tho very nice and hot

We visited Mr Chan's on a tuesday night (26/08/14) and were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were also very attentive. The decor could do with an update. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent, a very pleasant meal on a busy Saturday evening. Food nor service were compromised considering how busy they were. There was a group of 4 of us. The restaurant clientele was a mix of young, middle age, older people, couples etc. so really is a place for all. Atmosphere was fantastic The only niggle I have is that my strongbow tasted water down. But I'm just being picky. Highly recommend.
