First Im not one for reading reviews or leaving them , because people are all different so seeing as im laid back & easy going i had to get this of my chest because this did niggle me !! We was extremely excited to try this Restaurant on our anniversary !! However extremely disappointed ... the restaurant was not overly busy for a saturday night However the food was bland & looked like it was just slapped on the plate ..!! My wife's lamb was like tuff leather drowned in gravy & green beans !! That's was it .. However the staff were very nice & polite but clueless ..the young waiter did not even open our bottle of wine for us & just plonked it on the table .. There appeared to be no dress code & obviously on such an occasion one likes to make an effort & at 19.30 I did not expect to see a man wearing a vest, shorts & a baseball cap ! I have nothing against that what so ever but not at a dinner table in what should be such an exclusive venue.. No music either so No atmosphere I could tell by the look on other dinners faces we were all thinking the same thing TBH it felt more like a McDonald's than a M.P.W Very disappointed & very over rated.. Their is a poster of MPW in this restaurant claiming to be the only chef to make Gordon Ramsey cry !! Honestly this experience nearly brought tears to our eyes Shame !!

Myself and my partner visited on the 4th for his birthday. We had such a wonderful time. The view was gorgeous, we were placed by the window and could see the sea. We had 3 staff waiting on us and they were so kind and polite. The manager also very kind arranged table decorations and a birthday cake for my partner which was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We couldn't fault the staff, the service or the food. Thank you so much!!

Fantastic food at a reasonable price in a beautiful setting. The spinach and chickpea curry was very well balanced and spiced. The gluten free lemon cheesecake was amazing. The waitress 'Revati' catered to my gluten allergy and she was the epitome of customer service at its best.

This is the most chaotic restaurant I’ve been to. The waiters were constantly going into and out of the kitchen with seemingly no purpose but to argue in front of the kitchen door. The service was extremely slow although we were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant, and the waiter would ask if everything’s okay although we had absolutely nothing on our table. Even when the food finally arrived, the cleanliness of the cutlery and plates left much to be desired. When it was finally over and we wanted to leave, the servers seemed to want to keep us captive for longer and would not bring us the bill. They didn’t even know what we had ordered and asked us multiple times to refresh their memories. Overall, would not recommend. The food was okay but definitely not worth sitting through all this chaos. I actually know why Gordon Ramsay would have wept if he dined at this restaurant.

Can’t fault the steak - superbly tender, although a little overcooked. Beautiful dining room with excellent view. Service needs work - would be nice to actually receive aperitif BEFORE starter arrives at table. And you shouldn’t need to ask for a steak knife in a ‘chophouse’. We also breakfasted here - acceptable but average, with undoubtedly the weakest coffee I’ve ever encountered.

Disappointing overall. The service was incredibly slow despite us being the only two in the restaurant for almost an hour. We ordered bread for the table which arrived shortly after our mains did. The food was bland and lacking any amount of flavour. The cocktails were nice and the bread was good but that was about it. Largely underwhelmed considering the name on the door

Thanks to Pashad, who gave such great service , kindness and flexibility when we had afternoon tea at the restaurant. As always we were made to feel valued customers and treated with great respect. We had a fabulous time, within a lovely welcoming environment with a perfect view of the sea on a sunny day. Thanks again, we”ll be back!

Amazing service and the food was fantastic great value for money

Have visited twice as a family group, first time was just before Christmas and their idea of a Christmas vegetarian meal was macaroni cheese! Gave it the benefit of the doubt and we went again for a family birthday. This time I chose from the Vegan menu (although I am Vegetarian not Vegan). The zucchini fritt for starter was a few soggy strips. Hoping my main would be better, I had the cauliflower dish….five small florets of cauliflower with a small portion of chips. Nothing else! Plus on every occasion I been left waiting for my meal while the other diners have started their meals. Compared to the full plates the other diners had ( Sunday Roasts) it was pretty poor. The staff were very apologetic & offered to remove the charge from the bill, however, it’s almost though they don’t want vegetarian or vegan diners and served poor food to deter people from coming again. Such a shame as the staff & venue are great, the food lets it down.

We went for Burns night it was first class all round. Lovely staff so helpful. We had a lovely time. Will go again.

Afternoon tea at 17.95 pounds, a bit expensive, only 1 scone per person, too little. Way too much buttercream in the cake preparation. In addition, the clotted cream was of poor quality.

Best steak I've had in years, with very friendly and attentive staff. Prices were very reasonable for quality £20+ for two courses. We paid £9.50 extra for the fillet upgrade which was 100% worth it. Decor is nice. Nice selection of drinks. Was more quiet than it deserves for a Friday night. I will definitely be back!

Post funeral wake. Finger buffet was very good & nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Cannot conment on costs as I wasn't paying but given the general surroundings, standard & quality of food, & efficiency & dress of staff, I think it would be safe to expect a large bill!!

We had afternoon tea, it was delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The sandwiches and cakes were lovely, and the scones were absolutely delicious. Our only issue was when we asked for more tea. The teapot was taken away and brought back a few minutes later. Unfortunately they had only refilled the pot with tepid water, consequently the tea was lukewarm and weak. A sad end to what had been a lovely experience

Marco Pierre White’s Chophouse: If I was he, I would remove my name and have no association with the restaurant, part of the Best Western Hotel.. We tried the afternoon tea, which was okay except that the crust had not been removed from all of the sandwiches and one sandwich had no beef except for a very tiny piece, 80 percent of which was just bread. Even the butter did not reach the attached crust. The evening meal, was very disappointing in both content and service. The roasted tomato soup was fine, lacking the taste of basil, not out of the ordinary. The Steak and the Redefine meals were okay but again, nothing to indicate that this was fine dining. Ice Cream was excellent. The service was appalling. The server was stood, two tables down from our table, leaning against the wall, talking and laughing loudly to a couple throughout the duration of our main meal. Yes, not surprisingly, Mr. White’s English Chophouse, was empty except for ourselves and two other couples, and a small group who had left by this time. Having eaten our main meal, we were waiting for our plates to be taken away and order our deserts. After a timed ten minutes, in which the server had not budged from leaning against the wall, pontificating, my wife attempted to attract her attention, without success. I turned and tried, and my only option, other than to get up and walk to her was to talk out loud and louder until I had to shout to attract her attention. Eating out in Dover, we had a marvellous experience at the nearby Il Rustico Restaurant.

Afternoon tea. Weekday. A delightful contrast to where I had eaten lunch the previous afternoon. Not pretentious, nice location and staff that were so pleasant I felt comfortable and attended to without having the simple pleasure of lazy conversation with my wife interrupted. It is a chain restaurant but, and I cannot emphasise this enough, it manages to feel a little bit special because of its staff. Took tea there to see if it was worth having dinner there at some point. My dress was on the tramp side of casual. Not made to feel anything about that. Plenty of eye contact and smiles. Made to feel welcome. Food, just at an afternoon tea but plenty of it, about 1500 calories per person. Obviously preplated as is the norm but stored correctly so that nothing was dry or curly. Nice mix of flavours and textures with the cakes. Will be booking dinner or lunch soon.

Very helpful staff. Sometimes the food looks like it has been put together in a rush and the cakes with afternoon tea lack imagination. Nice environment ..the covered terrace seating can get very hot in summer but nice view to the port of Dover

Had afternoon tea with family. Delicious scones. It just melts away in your mouth. Will definitely visit again to try other menus. Good service with attentive staff despite being busy.

Conveniently located within the hotel and the menu has a range of options available for every taste. I particularly liked my martini and, being on a strict (although self-imposed due to my vanity and utter narcissism) low-carb diet, I appreciated the variety from which I had to choose. Friendly staff and management, as usual, and the view from the balcony sea-view suite is always stunning. Please keep in mind that this is a very old hotel, so do not visit with modern amenities as a basis for your expectations. Here it is charming and a bit quirky, but every bit worth the experience. It is the only place I stay when I am in Dover (4+ times per year), so that should say something.😉

BADLY COOKED SALMON, BLAND FOOD AND SHODDY PLATING: I'm a true Marco Pierre White fan since Masterchef. I was so excited to go to one of his restaurants. Sadly never again. My Salmon was small, horrendously overcooked and slapped on a pile of frozen bland chips with no finesse, care or flavour. It was terribly overpriced for what was on my plate. I've had better salmon at a pub than what was dished out at MPW Restaurant. My partners steak wasn't too bad, but again, a poor chewy cut of Rib Eye, atleast better cooked, but thrown on a mound of tasteless frozen fries. Waiters were great and they offered a discount on the Salmon, but sadly its not enough for me to go back and want to spend money on overpriced pub standard meals. Mr White needs to reasses and retrain his chefs or his name will be tarnished for good.

It was a disaster. We ordered two of the more expensive bottles of wine and both were out of stock. They tried to offer us alternative which were not to the same standard. We eventually managed to order a bottle of prosecco which took a good 10 mins before it arrived while out starter was getting cold on the table. The food was average. The manager then produced a bill with a discount which I assume was because of the issues with the lack of choices of wine. Then while we were paying he said the bill was incorrect and produced a more expensive bill. Obviously we said we were not happy that he took the discount off and we were not happy with the service. Eventually someone else for involved and produced the original bill. All in all it totally ruined our evening.

Wir haben in diesem Restaurant immer gefrühstückt. Das Restaurant ist von der Inneneinrichtung ganz nett gemacht wurden. Das Frühstück war jetzt nicht ganz so umfangreich, aber man hat hier den grundlegenden Frühstücksbuffet. Der Service war auch in Ordnung. Beim Frühstück konnte man entweder pauschal ca. 16£ bezahlen und konnte dann vom Buffet zugreifen, oder man bestellt von der Karte, in der Regel 8-12£ zuzüglich Kosten für Kaffee.

As always, the food is outstanding, the staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere/venue is second to none!

I was served olives with mould on which was not a good start. I visited the toilet which is part of the hotel that the restaurant is situated in and the urinal overflowed whilst I was using it, this was due to the system being blocked and constantly flushing at the time I used it. When we finished our meals, we were sat for about 15 minutes with steak gristle and prawn heads on our plates, and when the table was finally cleared, we waited a further 10 minutes to clear the check. All together it was not a great stay and I excepted more for playing as much as we did. They did take the olives off the bill and apologised for any inconvenience. I don’t think I will visit again, a big shame for the place looking very nice.

Mr White’s English Chophouse is great for a special meal when you are staying in Dover for a few days. We just came from a hike over the white cliffs and were very hungry, so a warm french onion soup, a delicious rib-eye steak, and sticky toffee pudding to finish it off did sound like a good idea. It was my first time trying one on of the famous Marco Pierre White’s restaurants and I have to say it does live up to his reputation. Nothing overly unique or special about the style of cooking, just good quality classic dishes.

We ate here as it was in the hotel. We did make a reservation, expecting it to be busy on a Friday night, we were the only cover almost. Food was very good, I would echo some of the comments on here that the food portions were lacking for the price point. The calamari as an example was tiny. The mains however were plentyful. Great service, nice atmosphere would go to others in the chain. Cocktails on the weak side for a steakhouse. Steakhouse hallmark is cocktails with a kick.

Compared to their restaurant in Folkestone, this was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the calamari for starters, and the amount given was a fraction (maybe a third) of what I had in Folkestone. Other portions were equally lacking, some of them even missing ingredients. The service was good, except for when the waiter tried to leave the table without taking my order. It's not far to Folkestone, so go there instead.

Average food and average service. It took 1 hour to get our food in a nearly empty place for dinner. Hamburger is mediocre with almost invisible ingredients. Service is average. Better to try someplace else

I was looking forward to a decent steak here at least! First steak over cooked, 2nd steak under cooked ( steakhouse that cant cook steak) Waited over 1hr for the food to arrive the waitress was dull, and un interested didnt even apologise for the delay just said theres an issue with the ticketing system. The quality of food is shocking for MPW establishment and the service worse. I had the ribeye flavourless poor quality and poorly cooked aswell as under seasoned, I had two bites of my steak and filled up on chips and bread. Have had better steaks at Miller and Carter. Avoid.

Superb service, very accommodating and food was excellent. The chicken escalope Milanese well prepared and cooked, the pasta just right with enough tomato, but not drowning out the rest of the flavours. A set meal (2 courses) for two, Prosecco and beer came in at just under £70, including service. Highly recommended!

There were some very poor reviews of this restaurant online, so even though we were staying in the hotel so we nearly didn’t bother, but having just finished a really good meal there, we are glad we went. We hadn’t booked in advance, but the staff were really accommodating, in spite of it being a very busy bank holiday weekend. They even got us the window seat we requested. The service was very friendly and helpful throughout the meal. The food was delicious (I had shepherds pie, DH had chicken escalope Milanese with fresh pasta and we both had cheese to follow - so we kept it simple - but it was well cooked and delicious. One waitress, Belinda, was particularly helpful and pleasant.

Nice restaurant very good staff, food not hot enough but good food, and would of thought a home made Y Pud would be better for MPW not Aunt Bessies.

Delicious Food, but small portions

Had dinner here while staying at the Best Western Hotel in Dover, What can I say, the place is beautifully decorated and they accommodated the 8 of us without batting a eyelid. Food - the food was fresh, cooked to perfection and served in a timely manor, between the 8 of us we pretty much had everything on the menu and no one was disappointed. Price was mid to high range I would say but worth it. But here's the best part, our server, Courtney (Sorry if that's spelt wrong) She was amazing, Quick, Helpful and probably the best server I have had in a very long time, nothing was too much trouble. Whatever your paying her, it's not enough. Kudos to her.

Service probably some of the worst I have come across. Waited 34 minute's for our drinks order. Food average. Would be ashamed to run this restaurant, daylight robbery.

Had a fantastic afternoon here to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. The staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough for us! They made a huge fuss of my nan, they sang and brought out cake which we hadn't arranged. They kept checking on us and refilling our drinks. Really fantastic customer service and the food was also very tasty! We will definitely be back for more. The staff here really went the extra mile and we can't wait to come back. Thank you for making it so special, my grandmother thoroughly enjoyed her day!

Best quality and well cooked burger I've had in a long time

Much as I would have liked to give 4 or even 5 stars, my utter dismay and disappointment arose due to one very very Rude and Unfriendly behaviour of one particular person serving in the Breakfast Period on 28/12/21 and 29/12/21 in particular. He was bald,fair, stout(a bit of heavy set) and height of maybe around 5 feet and 6/8 inches, maybe one Mr Pervez or something similar. Luckily, he was absent on 30/12/21 Breakfast time. This rude person’s behaviour was indeed very surprising and shocking to us. Such employees are very very bad for the Hospitality Industry. On the contrary, on 30/12/21, we found the service personnel good, especially the Asian/ Indian Gentleman was extremely Excellent in contrast. We as Sr Citizens, have been going around the World for the last four years and have been coming to the UK Continent continuously for last four years. Thanks again to the rest of the Staffs lovely services.

Good food and excellent service.

We tried this out after really enjoying the steakhouse in Folkestone by Marco Pierre white, had a nice window seat looking out to the Dover Harbour, a Less formal setting than Folkestone and a more burger based menu. I had the sirloin steak and my wife had the chicken , really enjoyed them , ordered the sticky toffee pudding as the same as Folkestone but didn’t taste as nice hence 4 star rating. But a great restaurant to check out if you are in the area .

Lovely food on our visit, and not as expensive as we was expecting - albeit be aware they do add a service charge to the bill as default. In terms of menu, they do offer a set meal. Two course for £14.95, which I didn't think was too bad, especially as it included a steak option! They also have a children's menu, and the portions of child's options come out big! (Could have easily got my two to have shared a kids meal). Everything was clean, service was good and not loads of waiting around or anything. Would visit again as there was plenty I would have chosen!!

Best steak I have had at a MPW restaurant, better than Birmingham. Staff are friendly and efficient.

Great Venue, good food, professional staff. But the menu was printed in such small font and in such a poor quality, we honestly couldn't read it - Even with glasses! All 4 of us had to use our phones to enlarge and we don't class ourselves as visually impaired. We did mention to the waiter that it was poor and almost impossible to read, he just shrugged and agreed. Come-on, buy a new printer Marco!

Incredible food and fantastic service! Daisy, our waitress was so incredibly professional and sweet - she made really great wine and food recommendations and took fantastic care of us. The calamari starters and French onion soup were to die for, the steak was fantastic and the Salmon was super tasty and very succulent. We also had some really yummy pudding - sticky toffee pudding which had a slight ginger taste and our friend had the blueberry cheesecake, which she very thoroughly enjoyed. We couldn't fault a thing! Great restaurant! We'll definitely be back again.

The afternoon tea I had here on Saturday was a truly delightful experience. The food was delicious and despite our best efforts, we were beaten by the quantity so had to take some home. The staff were attentive and friendly, we could not have asked for a better service. Afternoon tea does appear to be a popular choice as there were several teas being served whilst we were there.

Been twice in the last few weeks, the first time it was my birthday and they made me feel really special without any of the song or dance the free glass of fizz was lovely, we had the set menu on both occasions which was really good especially for the price 3 courses for under £20! Or 2 for £15

Not great at all long wait hardly any service had to ask for drinks, then bill and then they would take ages Food wasn't great at all, not much organisation there People complaining around us so we wasn't the only people to think it, one couple walked out. Food was average eggs benedict was like old bread in a bowl of hollandaise it was pretty bad. Overall 2 stars probably wouldn't bother with any of his other restaurants, Marco I wouldn't want to put my name on this restaurant I think it was a disappointment and he needs to review it himself and try his own food or go for a meal there himself

We attended the whiskey pairing evening and had a brilliant time! Lovely food, a little history and background on each of the whiskeys and why they paired, and great service and atmosphere. Looking forward to going back.

I must say in last 7 years since I went vegan, never have I ever had such a great meal in a restaurant. Absolutely delicious. It broke my heart that I wasnt able to finish my dish as there was simply too much food on my plate. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, would definitely recommend to everyone.

Must say staff and service fantastic but the food was awful butternut squash soup very bland. Shepherds pie bog standard. Tasted better in road side cafe.. No way a chef made them. Although hubby had steak that looked amazing.

Had a fantastic evening celebrating! The staff at the restaurant were lovely, especially our Waiter! We were treated to complimentary prosecco, the table was decorated and we were also presented with a celebratory dessert. As for our meal it was fantastic, very delicious indeed! Can't wait to return!

Lovely service but the quality of the food was very poor. We had the vegan options which sounded nice on the menu but were extremely poor quality and unimaginative. It was very disappointing as we were trying to treat ourselves before a long needed holiday to France. The manager was very understanding and we didn't have to pay.

Amazing food & excellent customer service. They go above and beyond the normal to make you feel special. Big up to the wonderful guys and girls who work here! PS, their steaks are AMAZING!

Excellent food, great service and staff. I had calamari for starter and rump steak and they were both delicious. Also for desert I had dark chocolate mousse it was very rich enough for two. I definitely recommend this place!

Amazing Birthday Celebration! Visited the restaurant for my Mums birthday celebration and the service couldn’t be faulted! There were decorations and Prosecco waiting for us at the table (nice touch) and the service from Emily was amazing she couldn’t have been more attentive. The food was delicious and well presented and they even had a vegan menu with plenty of options! We will definitely be visiting again soon!

Wow amazing food and staff. So nice to visit a restaurant of such top quality and great value. Can't wait till January 2020 we're visiting twice in one weekend.

The food was of an extremely poor quality, I got the sirloin on the bone and it was absolutely horrendous, especially in light of the fact it was £26.50 on its own. The steak was less than a quarter of an inch thick and quite bland whilst the sauce was equally disappointing tasting, quite frankly, repugnant The sides were very basic; two cherry tomatoes and chips which lacked freshness and also tasted as poor as they looked. The one star is for the waitress who was very polite, professional and also let us try the wine before we purchased it. Overall, a fraudulent franchise which ultimately damages Marco Pierre White's legacy Stay well clear of this restaurant.

Fantastic service and the food was amazing. Highly recommend!
