Mowgli Street Food - Water Street in Liverpool

I came last night. Tuesday 25th febuary. I had the best server Keira. She made the whole experience. Was my first time and definitely won’t be my last. I hope I have as my server the next time. She was so helpful and so attentive to our table.

His was the 5th time we had visited the Water St Mowgli and whilst it was enjoyable. I find that each time one of my favourite dishes varies in taste which is disappointing. However I have recommended the restaurant to friends and family.

Rubbish. Was asked to leave when I criticised the food. No refund given. Manager is an arrogant waste of space. Bland over priced food

Great food at Mowgli – the street food sharing dishes and mains were delicious and full of flavor. However, the service was disappointing, with missing items and uninterested staff. Would definitely return for the food, but hope that the service improves.

Food was not flavoursome - all curries tasted similar just tomatoey. Quite overpriced for what you get. For Street food meal it said comes with 3 curries - mix of veg & meat - but we just got 3 veg curries. Service & decor of building was the only thing that was good. Some reviews compare Mowgli to Dishoom- but Dishoom so much better!

Fantastic food, superb atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. Well worth a visit. We will be back.

So good we ate there twice in one trip. Lovely service both visits and the food was just amazing- and we ordered different dishes both nights to try as much as we could. Stand out dishes were the chat bombs with yoghurt and the mowgli special chicken curry, but everything we had was incredibly yummy and not heavy. Thank you to the staff for great service and warm atmosphere. It will not be our go-to place when visiting family in Liverpool.

We went here for valentine's day and every dish we tried here was top notch and true to authenticity . Love the service.. everyone was very friendly , polite and extremely professional. Matt was great and really took good care of us . Will definitely come here again with our little sons. They will love it. The ambience is so romantic .

The food is really tasteless and no spice in the food. Obviously this place is not for Asian people And also too much expensive. Although it’s called Indian food but I believe there is not any perfect chef to cook Indian food. So I recommend to Indian food lovers don’t have seat over their for food at least. Yesterday I spent £70 pounds which was totally worthless.

The food was lovely the service the worst I've ever had very young which is ok but evidently no training didn't coordinate dishes didn't even ask if the people who choose a few small dishes if they were mains or starters coincidentally a few of us weren't eating at the same time very noisy venue sounds from downstairs coming up and visa versa couldnt have a conversation we couldnt hear each other very bad acoustics

The food was quite nice. Once we had been served at no stage did anyone check on us. The bill came with 12.5% tip already on. Having lived in the US I prefer to set my own tip level. I normally give 15%. Here I would of only have given 5.

Excellent food and service always a good place to go for lunch

We went for a 40th birthday for a close family member and unfortunately the service was incredibly underwhelming and spoiled the experience. We have never been to Mowgli before so we were excited. I don't think you get value for money here. The place is jaw-droppingly stunning but the slow and lacklustre service (touch of warmth and enthusiasm wouldnt go amiss) spoiled it. The foods okay, I've had better. Flavours are nice but the treacle fries were bordering on sickly and the lamb curry became a game of find the meat. All in all, for a special experience, it wasn't the best. I'm glad we've experienced it now though. Maybe management can teach the waitresses how to smile? Oh! And we never did get our ice cream as part of the £25pp sample menu.

Food was lovely, full of taste. i just wish rice or bread were served with the food included in a price Raspberry and rose gin and tonic way too sweet and couldn't actually taste gin Overall really nice and would definitely recommend it

Although the food was amazing I was a little shocked at being told we had to leave at 7.15 . Our table was booked for 6oclock we were seated at 6.05 . Drinks ordered at 6.15 food ordered at 6.20 . All food delivered to our table by 6.35 Finished our food by just gone 7 and asked to order another round of drinks , the waitress told us we only had the table until 7.15 . I was shocked to say the least , I will not be going back

amazing food, this was mine and my partners first time coming to this specific mowglis as we are away for the night for his birthday. staff were amazing and i couldn’t fault them at all, they really went above and beyond. we didn’t manage to catch the gentlemen’s name who seated us however he made the visit 100% better for us personally throughout the night. i really hope this review reaches him and our appreciation was shown, thank you

First visit to this one in Liverpool. We had no booking and although it was very busy the waiter managed to get us a seat on the swing chairs. We where a little apprehensive about sitting on the swings eating and drinking, however it was absolutely OK. The dishes where fabulous and full of flavour, nice menu, lovely service, lovely atmosphere. Great location beside our hotel. Very reasonable priced for what we had.

Enjoyed a really good lunch. Staff very helpful. We had the street food sharer which is a great option for trying a variety of flavours.

Neat place with good service. Their “Angry bird” and “Mother butter chicken” are on another level. I wish their portions were bigger though.

The pretty girl kindly explained it to me and recommended the menu. The dried powder chicken was delicious. There is a seat that looks like a swing, so don't sit here. It's very uncomfortable hahaha. (You have to add rice and roti. Only the curry comes out.)

First time at your Knutsford restaurant, brilliant staff,food and atmosphere 👌. But more importantly the dogs were welcomed, we will visit again

4th visit, inc 3 Christmases for party of 6, but sadly not as good as usual. Fabulous food but wasn't quite as good as before. Worst thing was the service, slow & staff were quite uninterested. Waited for ages for the bill, mentioned we were waiting on the way to the toilets & the waitress was quite rude back. Been our Christmas night out for 3 years but will try somewhere different next year.

Fab food, unbeatable food! Great place for a night out. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere! This place never disappoints. Give it a try - you will be back!

Brilliant evening food amazing!!

Really nice works lunch for Xmas. Ordered Xmas tiffin meal which is a roulette of curries (random what the chef fancies, mine and my colleagues were completely different). Good service. Would go again.

Mowgli is always a delight - superb, friendly and attentive service, lovely surroundings and interesting food. I'm not a curry lover, and struggle with spicy foods, but this is all so delicious and simply presented it never fails to please!

The food is excellent, i wish the cheese toast had been a little less salty but all in all the food is incredible. Really good value for money, i highly recommend the chat bombs as a coolant if things get too spicy. Great service, excellent vibes 9/10 💪🏼

Amazing food and staff! We came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday and it didn’t disappoint, the staff were super attentive (Maisy in particular) and the food spectacular we even get a special birthday cake for our friend. Highly recommend!

Although I enjoyed the food on our recent visit, I found the whole experience rushed and the restaurant to be cramped. Ideal if you want a quick bite before a show in town, less enjoyable if you want a relaxing meal with friends. 12.5% service charge for being rushed through your meal too!

My partner and I visited Mowgli expecting a pleasant dining experience, but we left feeling completely disappointed. Unfortunately, our visit failed on nearly every front: food, service, and overall value. To start, the food was extremely underwhelming. Many of the dishes were tasteless, lacking any seasoning or depth of flavor. Adding to that, one of the main dishes wasn’t even served hot enough, which gave an impression of carelessness. The paratha we ordered was soggy and unpleasant, and the lemon sorbet at the end of the meal was a hollow, insubstantial scoop—an insult at its price point. Speaking of price, the food offered absolutely no value for money, leaving us wondering what we were actually paying for. The atmosphere only made things worse. The dining area was awkwardly set up, with tables separated by ropes instead of proper dividers. While this may appear quirky to some, for us, it created an uncomfortable lack of privacy. It was far from ideal for the romantic meal we’d hoped for. Service fell short as well. Our waiter got our order wrong, and though the food arrived fairly quickly, their lack of attentiveness was frustrating. To make things worse, a 12.5% service charge was automatically added to the bill—completely undeserved given the poor service. Even the smaller details showed a lack of effort. My lassi was served warm in a warm glass, and our table had visible curry stains when we sat down, leaving a terrible first impression. Overall, Mowgli was a huge disappointment. Poor food, inattentive service, and an uncomfortable atmosphere made this an experience we would not recommend to anyone.

Food poisoning!! Came here last year with my fiancé and loved it but today has put us off coming back. We booked a table at the Bold St location and the man at the door was kind enough to seat us anyway. Once the lady came to take our food orders, I informed her of my gluten intolerance and asked for the fish curry (the allergen chart states this contains no gluten) but she says I can’t have this as it’s not gluten free, confused I just ordered the house curry and let her take the menus. I asked why this wasn’t gluten free when the allergy chart says it is and she informs me it contains mustard that is not gluten free. Please update the chart! I ended up swapping with my partner as the chicken curry was unexpectedly green and didn’t taste nice to me. I asked for a mocktail with the pineapple and raspberries but had to get the mango twister as she wanted the name and I didn’t have the menu so I didn’t know. To top the awkward experience off, the chicken in the curry was slightly pink and shortly after leaving my partner was rudhing to find a toilet in immense pain due to food poisoning! Extremely unhappy

Wonderful experience at Mowgli, great atmosphere, lovely decor, good service, and delicious food. Highly recommend the yoghurt chat bombs, office workers tiffin, and house lamb.

Lovely Little venue the vegetarian dishes were better than the meat dishes. The meat could be a little bit tough at times however the food was still tasty.

Really delicious food. Love the swing seats! We had the street food sharer for two with all vegan options, highly recommended.

Food was ok, butter chicken was way too spicy for my liking, portions small to be fair. The rice was plain, and the bread deffo not naan. The best was Yogurt bombs - recommended! Restaurant looks modern and staff very nice

Lovely food. Been a while since been to Mowgli and things were much better. Tasty, flavoursome, bigger portions. Chat bombs, gunpowder chicken, agra ginger chicken and brownie. All lovely. Service was attentive but not over bearing. And to top it of, Nisha came in part way through and sat by us.

Went for Sunday lunch so not too busy. No cloakroom for our wet coats so had to take up a table for our coats etc. Bench seats can be a tad uncomfortable, and the rope backings get some getting used to. Food was tasty and service prompt.

This really is something different. Great atmosphere and decor, attentive waiting staff and quick food service. But it's the quality of the food that really sets Mowgli apart. Very well spiced, seasoned and prepared - we loved everything. And reasonably priced.

Busy restaurant which felt a bit rushed. The sharing menu came out very quick unlike the menu where it suggests the food comes out as and when it is cooked.

My partner worked with Nisha when she was a barrister. The legal professions loss is our gain. Mowgli is fantastic. It always has been. It's becoming a bigger chain across the UK but the Liverpool venues have always maintained their intimate, local eatery vibe. The food is always unbelievably good. It's not some ghee soaked stodge from some curry place where everything comes out looking and tasting the same regardless of what you order. Each dish is absolutely unique and has so much depth that James Cameron is trying to dive it in his sub. Nothing is going to blow your head off with spice, but it may ruin Indian cuisine for you. Nowhere comes close. Personal favourites are the Angry Bird, Bunny Chow and Temple Dahl. If it was medically possible to replace my blood with Temple Dahl, I would. We've tried the whole menu and found nothing we don't like. The house slaw is like being high-fived by the Incredible Hulk. It's amazing. We've gotten all the ruddy cookbooks, and again, nothing we don't like. Its delicious, its priced nicely, swings make you feel drunk—whats not to love?

Poor....expectations were high but impersonal service, staff didn't even know what the dishes were they were serving!

Came here for lunch during the week as soon as it opened at 11.30. Staff were super friendly and offered loads on info on the food etc Food was sensational, genuine authentic Indian food, made fresh. Not your typical curry and a pint place. I love how it comes out as and when and the surprise of what you're going to get. Pricey, but I'd pay it for the quality of service and food! We got, rice, puri, himalayan cheese on toast, chip butty, prawn curry and butter curry followed by gulab juman.

Excellent service. Wasn't offered vegan menus straight away, which is usually the norm. But food and drinks came quickly. Staff attentive and friendly. In fact, my daughter needed something specific and personal, so I asked a female member of the staff, and she asked the others. They helped out in an emergency, and that was fantastic. The restaurant was busy and a great atmosphere. Some beautiful dogs in there, too. We've been to this specific restaurant a few times and would come back again. No pictures of food, unfortunately, as was too delicious to wait. But the vegan choice is brilliant.

The food, service and ambience was very good It was well worth a visit. If i have to find a fault i ordered the mixed menu to share and i would suggest that you could serve more rice to enjoy with the other dishes 😉😁

We went to Mowgli Water Street, Liverpool. The food was, as ever, beyond good. The Chat bombs are always a delight and the old fashioned and espresso martini to finish, sublime. A special mention for Matt, who looked after us- an absolute credit to the restaurant - he was engaging, helpful and so interesting. Thank you for a fab dining experience again.

It appears there is a charity donation that is mandatory imposed on the bill on you -- without client's consent. I'm not sure if this policy is fare to customers - or other charities a client would perhaps like to donate.

During my recent visit to Liverpool, I had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever encountered in all my years of visiting this city. I would like to warn anyone planning to visit Mowgli Street Food restaurant about an extremely unprofessional staff member named “BEN.” This review is a direct result of his unacceptable behavior. Ben exhibited an alarming level of rudeness and racism toward us, particularly toward the senior citizen in our group. His behavior was not only offensive but also aggressive, creating an uncomfortable and hostile environment. Throughout our interaction, he continued to misinterpret our reactions, responding with hostility and disrespect rather than addressing our concerns with professionalism. To make matters worse, Ben was bluffing and misleading with his words. Despite the fact that the restaurant was clearly open, he falsely claimed that they could not take our order, offering no valid explanation. This was in stark contrast to another restaurant across the street, which kindly accommodated us even though they were technically closed. Mowgli Street Food’s refusal to serve us while other establishments went out of their way to provide service only highlighted the poor attitude and unprofessionalism displayed by Ben. This experience has left me extremely disappointed, and I strongly urge anyone considering a visit to think twice.

NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT !!! The most “IMPOLITE” behaviour ever. We were asked to leave even after ordering the food. BEWARE OF BEN !! Had really wrong expressions and the worst attitude in the hospitality industry. Looking at the rating we believed it to be good enough. Even giving 1 star was just a formality. A group of 10 with family and senior citizens and the way they misbehaved with us was totally disrespectful and shameless.

Absolutely pathetic service and treatment to customers. Please beware of Mr. Ben, the manager, he is very impolite and rude towards customers. He categorically asked us to leave inspite of us placing an order and simply asking him to repeat it. Felt them being racist.

Excellent Indian restaurant with a great variety food. Friendly atmosphere and great staff. Very busy and you need to book a table if you're going. Excellent vegan and veggie options.

Very good indian place. Ordered the Butter Chicken, only to find out that rice needed to be ordered extra. Why not just add it to the price, I ask? But it tasted good paired with the mango lassi, so 5 stars from me.

Good food, nice cocktails. I felt that the portions were a bit small for my taste. The atmosphere was great with the lights and decor although I found it a bit loud with all the open space and busy tables around me. Despite this, the service from all staff members was just wonderful! Amazing staff! Becky was wonderful, attentive, kind and such a lovely person! I was well looked after! Thank you for the experience!

Food is better than most 'claimed' Indian restaurants. They couldn't customise the dish because it was cooked in batches not made to order. Very bad service, slow and disregard to customers.

Really great meal here, food was excellent. The service though was even better. Booking online was easy, but decided to call. Originally booked for 6 people, but needed to squeeze in another 2. I spoke to Sydney in the booking team who was extremely helpful and even offered to call me back once she had spoken to the restaurant manager. They squeezed us in (even though it was very busy) and also looked after us very well. 5 stars all round!

This is an Indian curry restaurant with a nice atmosphere. There are a variety of curries and the atmosphere is casual, so I enjoyed my meal comfortably.

Great vegan menu .Food and service were amazing but 12.5 % service charge was a little steep . Definetly book well in advance it’s worth it 👍

I find this place highly overrated. The food tastes far from authentic Indian food, quantity is way lesser for the price and at times you also get stale food. I do not recommend Mowgli to anyone who is looking for good food.

A pity they were turning away guests at 8.45pm when the place was nearly empty.

was not the biggest fan of the food. It certainly wasn't piping hot

The food is always flavourful, the service amazing and I love the vibe/decor here.

Food was tasty however very small portions, I can't say this is truly the best. I am not convinced a tender lamb dish can be cooked in less than 5 mins flat ? the gravy seemed to have a water consistency like it had been frozen and then reheated as in ice crystals and formed water at the base of the dish. Disappointed at the "service charge" which the staff will always add in without asking. Service wasn't that great tbh, more like average and perhaps, rather than charge 12.5%, pay your staff well. Reading through the replies from Mowgli in response to people's reviews, it's the same reply from the restaurant.. this was the first time trying this restaurant, sadly, I don't think we would recommend or re visit. There are far better restaurants in the city. I'm expecting the Mowgli reply "Thanks for trying us, however not to everyone's taste"

Food absolutely worth it's exalted reputation, service depends on just how busy a night you pick,no complaints however when busy times are chosen...you get it.

Lovely experience, got the shared tiffin bixes with my pal and we were both stuffed! Delicious and reasonably priced 👍

Food was out of this world. Try the chaat bombs! Only negative was the food arrived super quickly. This was a special meal we'd looked forward to for a while. We had 6 dishes, and were too full for pudding. But they arrived so quickly we were in and out in 40 minutes and felt a little cheated of a nice evening meal out. The tables were also quite cramped and often the next table knocked into us while eating. Would go again, but with different expectations.

Dined on Tuesday evening with my husband. First visit. Can't wait for one to open in Newcastle now. Staff so friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was so calming. Food was irresistible! So tasty and flavoursome. Bought a couple of bags and a cook book. Best place to eat. Thank you to wonderful staff

Very good food, fresh and carefully prepared Real Indian cuisine

Visited this very smart modern restaurant on a Sunday evening and was surprised how busy it was, with a good lively atmosphere. Ordered a sharing platter for 2 and all the dishes were well presented and very tasty and this would have been a five star review except for one thing. Our food arrived before our drinks, a bottle of beer for me and the glass of prosecco for my wife. We had planned to order a bottle of wine which we cancelled because we could see that we would not have time to drink it, and as it was we finished our meal 35 minutes after entering the restaurant, at a cost of £75 including an automatic service charge. I would visit this restaurant again but the next time we will order our drinks and then after the drinks arrive we would order starters only. After we finished our starters we would then order our mains etc. As it was we left the restaurant with indigestion and enjoyed our bottle of wine in a nearby wine bar. Thank you for your prompt response which I find to be quite patronising. I am 65 years old and very familiar with the concept of small plates. I would suggest that your staff need to be retrained as you should not be bringing all of our dishes at once, before we have received the drinks that we ordered. We are lucky enough to eat out 2-3 times per week and a well run restaurant will take a drinks order first and once the drinks are served will then take the food order. It was quite clear from our treatment at your restaurant that you were looking to turn our table over quickly and you lost out on a £30 bottle of wine that we had planned to order with our meal.

It was my best restaurant , The food was brilliant and enjoyable.

Food was good , specially if you want Indian taste. But the quantity is very less and bit expensive. I must say , there are other good Indian restaurants a lot better than this.
