Quite disappointed by my experience at mowgli. I came with 4 colleagues and one of them was vegan. When we first got there, though the guy who sat us down at the table was very nice, the waitress who we initially spoke to was not. We got her attention initially, and asked for her to take our order, she said she would be back. About 20 minutes later, we saw her again, tried to get her attention to no avail. I ended up having to walk up to another waitress to ask for her to take our order order. We opted for the sharer menu, and was told that they could make one portion of vegan sharers for our vegan colleague, whilst the other portions could be non vegan and have meat I.e. 4 meat sharers and one vegan. Instead when the food came, they went half and half, really skimping on the portion sizes of the meat based dishes. I would say 50% of the meal was potatoes, The food was not great. Curries were room temp. Overall, would not come again.

1st visit & would be prepared to fly back from Belfast just to visit again, as Mowgli, Edinburgh, really was that good. Stunning location in the old Clydesdale Bank. Quite magical ✨️ The service by Gerlie, Meg & the whole team, was 1st class. The food was exquisite & the entire experience was faultless & beyond that, perfection. This beautiful restaurant & it's lovely staff set the benchmark off the scale. Thank You to everyone & we hope to see you again!

This was our 1st visit to Mowgli, recommended by friends.. Wow! What a brilliant experience, on every level. The setting is stunning with well laid out seating & pretty fairy lights, making it quite magical ✨️ The service was second to none, from the initial welcome by Gerlie, fabulous guidance on the menu choices, by Meg & all the little extra touches of care from them, made us feel like part of the Mowgli family. The Food was served promptly & was absolutely exquisite. Thank you to everyone, sorry we didn't get all's names! Each one that looked after us were incredible. The special touches for our wedding anniversary, gifted to us 🍾🥂 were the icing on this delectable cake. Congratulations Team Mowgli, Edinburgh 🏆🏆🏆🏆✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

“I recently visited Mowgli, and while the ambience was exceptional (10/10 for a date spot!), the food was a letdown. Unfortunately, I didn't find the Indian cuisine to be authentic, and the portion sizes were extremely small, not justifying the price. If you prioritize atmosphere over food quality, Mowgli might be worth a visit. However, if you're looking for a satisfying Indian meal, you might want to consider other options.

Walking in here feels like a fairytale come true! ✨ The interior design, lighting and architecture are stunning - but the food is an absolute highlight. Please try the yoghurt balls, you won‘t regret it! 😍 Also, the vegetarian curries are amazing. For drinks: We tried the Mowgli mocktail and were inlove. Service was really sweet and helped us decide which curries to order, as it‘s a tapas-style Indian restaurant. 🥰 I‘ll definitely be back!

Enjoyed the food, however on later examining the bill, can’t believe the charge for a standard (£10 a bottle) Sauvignon Blanc £32!! And then the cheek to add 10% service on top 😠. If I had checked price on menu or bill at the time there is no way I would have accepted a further 10% service charge on this. Get real Mowgli!

So much hyped about the food..but didn't like the food at all..as it was our anniversary celebration..and we spent £100 here last night. It seemed like any dish with panch phoran was just filled with way too much tomato’s. Potato curry was absolutely disgusting, only we got taste was tomato puree, and same with the prawns. The chip butty had a very strange over powering flavour to it, could barely taste the turmeric or fenugreek that it was suppose to have as the flavour. The rice portion was a joke, it was so small after being told it would be fine for two people. The quality is not acceptable at all. Staff were all very attentive though.

Went on recommendation of friend, who actually couldn't get in during peak tourist season. We went in shoulder season and it was still busy, but worth planning a day or two ahead with a booking. First, the atmosphere was wonderful, bring inside an old bank with a huge cringing with a beautifully lit dome and warm fairy lights all over. Second, the food was awesome. We had the £25 per person tasting menu. Chat bombs, gunpowder chicken and fenugreek fries all highlights, but all the cities were delicious too. Highly recommend!

I was excited to come for a second visit with my husband after having a lovely girls lunch here on my last visit to Edinburgh. We chose Mowgli for a rare child free date night. Our table wasn’t ready on arrival, 10 mins late, this didn’t worry us. Service was fairly slow, we waited a long time to place an order, again we weren’t worried. We really enjoyed our food and decided to share a pudding and order a cocktail. The waitress took our order, but then returned to tell us we couldn’t order anything as we had to give up our table in 10 mins. We still had some wine left and felt pressured to leave. Poor when we were late getting our table and put a real dampener on our night.

My review is based on service alone, (or lack of) Having previously visited Mowgli at multiple locations on a regular basis, both for work and pleasure, we were appalled at the way we were treated and spoken to by 2 members of staff working Saturday night 8th March around 7pm. We were in town for the six nations and hadn’t planned to book anywhere for food, but called up on the off chance to see if there was any last minute availability. We were told we could not book until around 2 hours later, but was told to walk down and wait as we would be able to wait for a table and be seated before the available time slot. When we arrived we noticed numerous empty tables but were told they would not seat us ‘any time soon’ the earliest, being the original time slot we said was not suitable on the phone. When we explained what was discussed on the phone, the woman said we could not wait (despite being told we could on the phone) We explained what was discussed and explained we walked across town based on the phone conversation and pointed out that there were numerous empty tables. She then explained that these were booked for in an hours time and we would not eat that quickly (a bold prediction) It was very disappointing to be turned away from a restaurant that was not full, maybe the brand has became successful enough to turn away customers? We then asked for the managers name to feedback the treatment and no one could really answer, one moment the lady we spoke to was the manager, 2 minutes later it was a man. We were also told that the person on the phone gave us the wrong info as they were a central reservations system who does not know how things work. We left and went to tattu and spent £250 there. Not only did they not want our money on this particular evening, they have also made us never want to use the chain again for the regular visits we usually make at their locations that are local to us. One small encounter can make a lasting impression, for us, this level of service was enough to never spend money at this chain again. Customer service and communication training is very much needed for those who handled this situation. We would not have had an issue whatsoever, had we have been given accurate information in the first place, as we would not have bothered to have walked across town if there was no point in doing so. It is a shame, as until now we have received excellent service from other locations where the staff and food have been great, hence using them on a regular basis.

Came here earlyish since the later sessions were booked. Nice venue, a former Clydesdale bank with spectacular columns and the more special roof dome. It was also nicely decorated with kiln jars full of christmassy style fairy lights. Very nice, very light. Service was great. Enthusiastic people only interested in us getting the most from the dinner. Excellent. A little less so was the over use of tamarind syrup in almost every dish. Ditto the pomegranate and the green stuff. I like all of those things but prefer a bit more variety dish to dish. The quantities were just right. I left fully satisfied although had slightly under ordered. No issue, it was plenty for the three of us. Chicken and fish were a little over cooked. All good but not quite restaurant quality of "just right". When I cook at home I may over do the meat time. In this kind of restaurant that's a literal too much. Prices were great. I paid for three starters and mains a little more than what I'd pay at Five Guys. In Edinburgh that is something, We'll be back to try different things and point out that we prefer "medium done meats". I had Goan fish. Nice. I also had Monkey wrap. All the. meat comments applied to both dishes. I had puri and roti too as I'd heard the bread were special. These were a little overdone too. Just a little mind. I had a beer and other diners softer drinks. I'd recommend it but tell them what doneness you prefer to avoid disappointment.

Ok, so this one of the hyped restaurant in Edinburgh. Atmosphere was very good, but not sure why it so hyped because of food. Being an Indian, I know how food tastes and they are making a very awful copy of Indian food, We took Tiffin Box: which had 3 curries with rice. Paneer, Potato and Chickpeas. Chickpeas was so so bland it was no where tasted what an Indian chickpea curry would look like, it was so dry and lack of taste. Potato : it was very simple potato with tomato which was ok amongst the rest. paneer: Indian paneer curry are so delicate, and paneer should be so soft nd not chewy, whereas here it was so hard to even cut and no flavours at all. Just naming it as Indian street food, not making justice to it offends us. it is just hyped for ambience and the way serve in tiffin box.

Very welcoming and warm Staff & Service. Well lit Creative Ambience & Decor. Great place for street food. We tried Yogurt Bombs, that were fresh & flavorful (not spicy). And we tried the Indian School Tiffin that comes with 3 varieties of curries & some rice. It wasn't the best Indian Food you would expect in a restaurant. It was more like home cooked food. Simple & Comforting. The food was served in steel tiffin lunch boxes exactly like the ones we used to carry to our school back in time, which was an unexpected nostalgic feeling.

Walked in expecting authentic south Asian food. Left feeling disappointed, and this is coming from someone who was born and grew up in that area. It feels like most of the importance has been put on the decor and the food is an afterthought. The servers were friendly but not knowledgeable about the menu at all, they weren’t able to answer any questions. I understand that it is tapas style dining but even then the portion sizes are atrociously small. There is no spice in the dishes and I am sorry but you cannot put giant slices of chillis on top of each dish to make up for that. Our food arrived lukewarm, so it felt as though the kitchen had put it out and forgotten about it. We ordered the puri and instead of being crispy and flaky it was doughy and chewy. We ordered the gulab jamun with ice cream and when we received it the ice cream was melted and the gulab jamun were again lukewarm instead of hot. They were also oddly dry and weren’t soaked in enough syrup and as someone who has had this dish for years I have never come across something so disappointing, you’re better of going to a grocery store and making it yourself for a fraction of the price and 5 times the portion sizes. I can see why a majority of the low rated reviews have been left by a lot of south Asians as when you grow up eating Indian food the dishes that were served to us were absolutely appalling.

Service was OK waiter didn't seem too eager to see us, she wasn't very clear about the Christmas menu either when asked leaving us with questions when food came. I feel like for the price point, you pay £35 each to share food between two, it was very overly priced. Small tins of currys which didn't seem to have much flavour and the rice wasn't enough to be shared. Unfortunately i will not be coming back as there is restaurants out there with better quality food for fraction the price. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone especially in this cost of living. Thank you for the manager who was very polite but it still doesn't justify paying £141 for the food we had infront of us.

The food was enjoyable though we got a bit confused with the "as it comes" approach. Some lovely, lovely flavours though. They've a good selection of cocktails and mocktails. I'd have happily stuck to mocktails but we were tempted by the orange wine, which was light and fruity. Staff were friendly and happy to explain things though there was a long gap between receiving and then paying the bill. Still, I would absolutely recommend it for lunch and will definitely go again.

We ordered 7 dishes to try and almost every dish was over powered by coriander which I am not keen on so wasn't the best which is a real shame.

The most beautiful restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’ve been wanting to come here for ages. It didn’t disappoint.. the food, the cocktails, the decor .. everything… is out of this world. Will definitely be back. 10/10 🥂🎉

Mowglis has a great ambience. I loved the food overall but some dishes were mediocre like the green chicken curry and lamb chops

2nd time here and fantastic again, it’s a different take on a traditional Indian meal in the uk . It’s almost like an Indian take on Tapas with smaller size dishes but more of them.

Disappointed. They serve very cheap rice and small portions and charge too much for it. The lamb dish was again very small and at almost £10 too expensive. This is not wow and only medium mediocre now. Friendly enough staff but this is not enough.

The best Indian food in Edinburgh. Fresh and a burst of flavor at normal prices. The restaurant has a nice modern atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. At the end of the Royal Mile, on a side street off the High Street on Cannongate, so very centrally located. The Indian Kobra beer is also recommended.

Over 2 hours I waited for delivery. I was starving. Could have been catering for friends or having a party. Just not good enough.

An American, spending time in West Highlands and in Edi often- for context. The staff is always friendly, the food delicious and quick with a warm inviting atmosphere. We've eaten here 2x in 2 weeks and highly recommend!

Called in for a meal last Monday the 10th at around 2100. the service was excellent with a very friendly reception. The meal was very very good I particularly enjoyed my lamb. All in all it was an excellent experience form beginning to end and very fairy priced . I would highly recommend and am already looking forward to my next visit.
