Mowgli Street Food in Edinburgh, City of

First time visit to Mowgli. Food was amazing. Staff very obliging. Atmosphere was great. Great choice of drinks and cocktails. Will definitely return soon.

The place looked absolutely gorgeous, and the staff was very friendly:) I tried the Himalayan Cheese Toast, and it tasted amazing—definitely a highlight of the meal. However, the Bhelpuri was a bit of a letdown. The portion size was smaller than expected, and it was quite dry. I think adding chutney or a bit more moisture would really help improve the dish.

Food is so amazing, yum-licious. I loved the small portions. We enjoyed every bite. And the staff is awesome especially Stella who gave us a brief history of the restaurant beginnings. I am visiting from Connecticut and this will be my favorite restaurant when I visit again.

Lovely flavoursome food at moderate city centre prices. Pleasant staff and set in an old Clydesdale bank building with stunning cupola and attractively decorated with lighting. Great experience.

Food and atmosphere and service was great, just stumbling option it while doing some Christmas shopping, I had the lamb curry, and it was one of the best I have had, we will definitely be back.

Arrived 30 mins late to our dinner booking because I remembered the wrong time. The lady who greeted us let us know they had (understandably) given our table away but she went out of her way to move things around and provided us with the full hour and a half on the swing seats. Don’t normally leave reviews but it was a really lovely restaurant and I was impressed with their service, especially considering we had gotten the time completely wrong.

Waitress was rude and uninterested.

booked a table for 4 on the 12th of December. First of the bat amazing decor, definitely one of the best i have seen so far. Service was OK waiter didn't seem too eager to see us, she wasn't very clear about the Christmas menu either when asked leaving us with questions when food came. I feel like for the price point, you pay £35 each to share food between two, it was very overly priced. Small tins of currys which didn't seem to have much flavour and the rice wasn't enough to be shared. Unfortunately i will not be coming back as there is restaurants out there with better quality food for fraction the price. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone especially in this cost of living. Thank you for the manager who was very polite but it still doesn't justify paying £141 for the food we had infront of us.

A great place and a great experience. Girly, the girl at the reception gave us a special table to celebrate our daughter's birthday. They prepared a dessert for him with candles that we brought. Mary, our waitress is lovely. He recommended us very well and the treatment was super friendly. We will deliver every time we come to Edinburgh.

Beautiful place - done out so that it is pretty, atmospheric and with seating such that you can actually hear each other. The food was enjoyable though we got a bit confused with the "as it comes" approach. Some lovely, lovely flavours though. They've a good selection of cocktails and mocktails. I'd have happily stuck to mocktails but we were tempted by the orange wine, which was light and fruity. Staff were friendly and happy to explain things though there was a long gap between receiving and then paying the bill. Still, I would absolutely recommend it for lunch and will definitely go again.

2nd time here and fantastic again, it’s a different take on a traditional Indian meal in the uk . It’s almost like an Indian take on Tapas with smaller size dishes but more of them.

We ordered 7 dishes to try and almost every dish was over powered by coriander which I am not keen on so wasn't the best which is a real shame.

Mowglis has a great ambience. I loved the food overall but some dishes were mediocre like the green chicken curry and lamb chops

The most incredible evening! The service from Jenifer is unmatched, so friendly and professional! Every single dish we had was incredible, so fresh and bursting with flavour! Cannot believe we have never tried Mowgli before!

Excellent food and service. The stand outs were the yoghurt chat bombs, gun powder chicken and bunny chow.

High quality sharing plates delivered as when ready, great way to dine wether there are 2 or 20 Staff have always been friendly, helpful, professional Highly recommend!

What a great place originally the old Clydesdale bank original features still in place architecture as stunning as the food - quirky tables you can sit in the swings or sit on normal seats clean toilets -dog friendly Indian street market dishes that come out as andwhen they are ready food tasted amazing gluten free dishes and mild dishes price are great for central Edinburgh starters from £6 main course £9 drinks very reasonable don’t walk on by without giving it a try

A must when visiting Edinburgh. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I am suggesting it to everyone I know. The house lamb was our favorite. Make sure to pair with some rice or roti.

This place is absolutely stunning, and the food backs it up! I must say I picked this place from Google at random and it exceeded expectations. The cuisine is Indian and the portion sizes are small but packed with flavours and balance of the macro nutrients. You are looking around 20-30 per person which in my opinion is a fair price. I ordered the angry chicken and the buttered chicken. Yummmm! The staff there were amazing, served us promptly and even made some interesting conversations! The music did turn up half way through, I told the staff it was too loud and they reverted back to the volume originally. All in all, highly recommend this place!

this is one of the most hyped places in edinburgh, food quality though is very questionable, food served was very cold, tasteless and not upto the standards of a simple indian restaurant let alone this fancy one. Staff is overworked and just wants to get the job done. Look elsewhere to spend your money, the experience is just not worth it.

Visited as been to Mowgli in Glasgow. Friendly welcome from staff, busy on a Tuesday evening. We ordered chat bombs as a starter 5 in total. A supergreen curry, a bunny chow, treacle fries and 2 Milan roti, a Lucky Saint beer, and a Chai Rum Sling cocktail. All served by a delightful young server, she was friendly and attentive. It's a luvly restaurant, all the fairy lights give it a cosy friendly vibe, the swing seats are popular with younger visitors. The building itself is beautiful ( an old Clydesdale Bank) inside, the domed ceiling area, and pillars give it a spacious feel. Highly recommend a visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Will return next time visiting Edinburgh :) :)

Nice restaurant with a lovely interior, amazing smells when you walk in. The staff were very accommodating as we hadn't booked but managed to squeeze 3 of us in. Very busy on a Monday night which I guess is testament to their food and service. Onto the food, was a shame that a lot wasn't available due to some error (can't remember what the error was) but the dishes we had were really tasty as can been seen by the images. Butter chicken and a prawn curry. The dessert we wanted was sold out so we just had a coffee. They took some money off the bill because of the items that were not available which was nice if them, didn't expect it and would have been happy paying full price as our food was excellent but was a nice touch from them. Food good, staff good, would recommend.

Excellent food, everything was fresh and delicious. We were served by an Excellent waiter called Nicholas who did a fantastic job! Would highly recommend.

A restaurant that we found by chance while walking past. Everything is incredible: the suggestions, the chicken, the lamb, ... they are small portions, ideal for tasting multiple flavors. The cocktails are also very elaborate. I recommend 100%!

Chat bombs!! what more can I say - absolutely delicious. We shared lamb curry, prawn curry, rice, bread, chat bombs and Bhel Puri. All lovely. The staff were great right from the start. Lovely ambience and decor. So glad we visited as have wanted to go to a Mowgli for a long time - love the background to it's inception. Definitely recommend and dishes are bigger than you think!! The Gulab Jamun was also delicious. I want to go back and sit on the swings!!

I have a terrible moment with ugly and unpolite treatment by the staff Not recommended at all.

Loved the place and food. I mostly loved the vibe of the place and the warmth of the staff. I went for lunch with my family to celebrate my husbands birthday. Mr Nicholas made our occasion much more special with his warmth and hospitality. Highly recommended

It was a magical experience at Mowgli! From the decor, to the service, to the food, it was an incredibly beautiful experience. Thank you especially Jenny, you looked after us very warmly and we felt very comfortable🌻 Compliments also go to the kitchen, the individual dishes were well seasoned and were a lot of fun to try!

Great restaurant and staff...but antiquated booking requirements. Apparently a table for 7 on the 8th of November must use the overpriced Xmas menu? Which, by its own admission, is a total pot luck of dishes. So you cannot pick what you'd like. A real shame, and just a bit bizarre. Been previously plenty times and loved it.

Excellent food n services, quantity is adequate for 1 person per dish. Authentic taste. Worth the money and times.

Great addition to Edinburgh dinner options. Unusual plates and unusual flavours. The tiffin selections where it's pot luck are a nice touch and we'll worth trying.👍.

We were already excited about Mogly in Glasgow! The food here is great too. The ambience is nice and unique. Lots of little lights. A glass dome is unusual here. Special spices from ginger to coriander. The service is fast, very friendly, dynamic and competent. Be sure to reserve! The store is almost always fully booked!

Reasonably tasty food. Portions are quite small, so overpriced for the amount of food you get. Ambience is good, and the server was polite and attentive. Note that the restaurant includes by default a service charge and a donation (!?). I find this approach unethical and disgraceful as they are banking on customers being uncomfortable with asking these charges to be removed.

Food and service was fun and the atmosphere is beautiful. Cocktail was lovely and felt fresh in idea and flavour. I loved the tea-steeped chickpeas and the lamb curry was melt-in-your-mouth. I'm looking forward to returning and trying out the London location.

It's pretty fancy and has a great ambience. The staff was very friendly and suggested a few items. The food was good, and as it's served in small portions you can try variety of dishes. Definitely a must visit!

Fantastic food, now our favourite place. Shame the drinks are a bit slow when you first arrive but that is the only grumble. It's so pretty inside with all the fairy lights makes it feel special.

Not my kind of vibe or food. Inventive dishes, not really authentic. Plus they add charity donation and service charge. Its optional but then you have to tell them to remove it. Clever.

location 5 eat 3 Staff 1 - Food for small children was served spicy, even though we had said beforehand that it should not be spicy under any circumstances. They don't really respond to complaints, unprofessional and untrained staff. After such an action, it would have been natural for nmuns to either receive new food for the children or not to charge for it. Instead, there were no solutions and everything was settled. A restaurant of this class cannot afford that.

Absolutely Brilliant- it was Tapas style Indian food! Not spicy at all but no compromise to the flavours. It was rich and warm. The building is so unique and it is beautiful. The decor was just simply beautiful. The atmosphere was cosy and romantic(if that’s even a thing). The lady who served us was welcoming and friendly, kept checking on us. I had yogurt bombs(highly recommend they were gol gappe), gun powder chicken( which had unique tamarind flavour). The main for my partner was the lamb and roti, and I had veg tiffin - 3 veg dishes of chefs choice ( I had red lentil, tomato aloo, and white chickpeas) with rice: Would I recommend it? Of course!!! It was giving me Punjabi and South Indian fusions!! For the dessert, I had brownie with chocolate ( it was ok) !!

The best Indian food ever! Perfect to try a bunch of different dishes to share, then you can try many. Like Indian tapas. Also not too expensive.

Was quite disappointed to be honest Butter Chicken was decent but for £10 I think it should’ve been in a larger dish & have more than 7 pieces of chicken ,the treacle fries were basically potato cubes that were over cooked & crunchy & covered in a treacle coloured sweet & sour tasting sauce ,the lentil dish hardly had much in it either & was very runny.oh & if you want a naan bread ,forget it as they don’t do naan bread in this Indian restaurant

Brilliant restaurant with gorgeous surroundings. All food was very tasty (and not too spicy), my personal favourite was the sweet chicken as recommended by the waiter. Good kid menu options. Lovely and friendly service. Book in advance so you can guarantee your spot!

The place was beautiful and had a lovely vibe. We got lucky with getting a reservation the same day which is rare for Mowgli. We ordered vegetarian tiffins and the curries were decent. We had really good Indian food at other restaurants in Edinburgh so the bar was really high which unfortunately Mowgli couldn’t meet. 😁

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening out. The food was tasty, interesting and good quality. Very acceptable gluten free range which crossed over to the main menu which was helpful when it came to sharing. Loved the building, the ambience and the swing seats! Someone has commented on the hand driers in the washroom, they are useless and could do with an upgrade. A lovely waiter added to the experience of a memorable evening.

Just off Princes Street you will find the Mowgli Restaurant. Great Food, Drinks Selection & Service. Never been disappointed in any Mowgli Restaurat!

A nostalgic taste of home with its roti, cooked perfectly in desi ghee. The food has a true village-style authenticity that's both lovely and comforting. The ambiance and aesthetic of the place add to the vibe, making it a delightful spot for a genuine amazing experience.

Very friendly restaurant with a very Instagrammable setting but without overdoing it either. The dishes, in a food-sharing style, were very good and the portions larger than those of Tapas. Special mention for our waitress Martha, her service and her sympathy were worth an 11/10, “cheers” to her!

An afternoon bite with cocktails. We both really enjoyed the food we had. The treacle and tamarind chips were a stand out. Service was good and the food arrived promptly. The only thing which let down the experience was arriving 10 min early to be offered a place at the bar. I wanted to order a couple of drinks but was told it was table service only. So we had to stand about feeling awkward. Coupled with the expectation from Mowgli that you can only be 15min late it didn’t feel very in tune with customers…..

This is a great spot... for young people who have maybe never eaten Indian food. Cute atmosphere, nice service, but the food is soooooo sweet, and not at all spicy. Eh. Not for a foodie, more for a child/gateway Indian food place? That includes the cocktails (though maybe children should not partake in those).

This place was a surprise for my parents who love good food,but everytime we dine out in Edinburgh we tend to go to the same restaurants and I thought this place would be different AND it was definitely that.The food was SUBERB as was the service.My only gripe is the seats weren't comfortable and had No backs.It was like sitting on a picnic bench.My parents are in there 70s and found it quite off-putting.Apart from that we had a great experience

Sadly I cannot recommend. I was very excited to try this place. Rang up and was told to come as a walk in. Arrived less than 10 minutes later and was effectively called a liar. I was told no tables were held for walk ins and to leave. I can recommend Ignite by Haymarket and Indian Lounge on Rose street (where I’m currently eating and spending my money). They don’t have fancy crystal chandeliers or stroppy hostesses. They do understand the value of treating customers as if they are appreciated and serve very tasty food UPDATE mistakes happen. It’s how you handle them that counts. The customer service team contacted me after this review. I will say the process felt like a cross examination (Interrogation). But my partner and I did end up making reservations and having dinner. Our server was attentive and the food was yummy. They try to talk you into ordering way too much food (3 dishes was plenty for us. They suggested 4-6). I’d go again. Loved the Monkey wrap. I’ve upgraded from 1 to 3 stars.

Good food, really good food actually .. apart from a couple of things missing .. nice homemade chai and rose lassi .. but hey! The staff were fab service spot on .. however any inside restaurant that’s dog friendly doesn’t make me feel comfortable.. nothing wrong with dogs it’s a personal choice .. so I’m afraid that’s a no for me ..

One of our best meals during our entire vacation! As a couple who doesn't eat a lot of Indian cuisine, we were floored with how good our food was. We ordered and our food was almost out instantly. I ordered their version of the chef's selection and got two meats, rice and a curry. The House Chicken (green-ish dish below) was so good we bought the cookbook to have the recipe at home. We joked that we could come back every day for lunch since it was so good and affordable. 10/10 would recommend to anyone, especially with dietary restrictions as you can sort the menu online by food allergies.
