Mowgli Street Food in Edinburgh, City of

Excellent Indian food. Plates are small but not exactly tapas-style small - 2 dishes and a side will suffice. All the food was excellent: flavoursome and interesting. Not the cheapest of meals, but I would say value for money.

This is beautiful restaurant in a great location and lovely service. The food I found to be pretty average, as you'd expect from a chain. I found most of the dishes to be really sweet and actually fairly bland, which was odd. All in all it's OK but the food doesn't live up to rest of the experience.

My wife and I tried to make reservations the day we wanted to go but it was all booked up. So we made reservations for the next night as it seemed like a very diserable place to be. The atomosphere was nice but we were sat at a table with swings for chairs, very uncomfortable and impractical, but I guess very “instagramable”. It took a long time to get our waiter to even come give us water. The food was bad and weird, was not the Indian we were expecting. Very small portions. Everything was covered in cilantro and had an “off” flavor. We are not picky eaters and have eaten a variety of food from all over but something about this food was so off putting. We left nauseous, do not recommend

Very good food and service, the only flaw was that the room was very noisy. Still recommended.

Reservation required. Very well cooked curries at reasonable prices (around £10) in a sublime location. Marble columns, mirrors, crystal and LED garlands, a skylight dome which give the place all its beauty. We serve you in small circular stainless steel dishes: original, “street food” spirit. The portions are not huge but correct. £52 for two, curry with drink, basmati rice, roti bread, and coleslaw salad. A rather low price for quality cuisine in such a prestigious location. (The 52 pounds include 10% service and £1 donation for any cause...?... Optional donation) I'm taking away one star because the room is noisy like a station hall. Difficult to hear in such a hubbub.

Sweet, too much tamarind and just average. For it being an Indian restaurant and having so many varied flavors that could have been in every dish, pretty much everything was doused with tamarind and was quite sweet which became to overpowering. The service was great.. the ambience quite nicely set up and done but the food is meant to be the star of the restaurant and I sure did lack substance and flavor.. some of the items were better like the gunpowder chicken but that also was doused with tamarind. Well hey ho I know many other will like it but just my thoughts and opinion.

The food was delicious with all the aromas distinct of each other and blended superbly. The ambiance was really nice and warm with good lighting. The music was loud enough to covert other’s conversations without being too loud so we could hear each other. The seating was cool and great for fidgeting people!

All of the food was hot , delicious and morish. Service was great and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.

It is not possible to give anything less than 5 stars!!! Came here for my birthday. There were 4 of us and we were told to order a few dishes each and they would come out as and when they were ready. Every single dish was lovely and tasty and we all really can’t wait to come back again. Cannot recommend here enough! The staff were very helpful and the atmosphere and decor is lovely!

Absolutely stunning place. Beautiful decor. I Had the Mowgli Sticky Chicken. The chip butty was gorgeous too. As was the Paneer dish. We all shared what we had ordered.Oh I could have drank the sauce the Sticky Chicken came in. It was absolutely fabulous. Highly recommended.

Lovely meal tonight (13/04/24) staff were very helpful when requesting to move to a different table due to an injury and couldn’t enjoy the lovely swings, service very attentive and food was delicious, great value for money for Edinburgh centre! Will be returning :)!

Didn't find the food special, the menu sounds promising but when we ate it was a bit boring, salty and spicy but not flavourful. The dahl was watery, my vegan dish was plain soggy bread with a chickpea curry… the chippy wrap was tasty but dry. Cocktails were super sweet. There s many Indian restaurants in Edinburgh that are a lot better

Food- This is not an authentic Indian street food place. Recipes are curated to suit the British taste palette and everything has sugar in it. We had four curries and they were all sweet. When we ordered the fifth curry, we requested the waitress to not have additional sugar or sweet in the curry and she said that ‘we don’t modify our dishes’. As an Indian, it felt like a waste of money to have four different curries taste the same. The portion sizes here are extremely small and the taste, like I said, was just mediocre. Definitely not worth the money. Service- We went a bit early than our reservation and we were denied a table even though we saw several spaces empty. The only good thing about this place is the aesthetic decor. I was not surprised to be the only south-Asian person in there because as a south Asian I would not go back! Plenty of other authentic tasty Asian places in Edinburgh :)

Fantastic place if you like Indian food

The service here was fantastic. We're right around the closing time and while at first they said they can't help, but we're with a hungry, tired, with no vegetarian place nearby, and requested if they could accommodate us. They were really great and sat us in. I can't be thankful enough! The food and ambiance were both outstanding as well.

We had travelled for leisure gateway from Bournemouth to Edinburgh. We dined at Mowgli and it turned out to be one of the best restaurants for Indian Cuisine. The Lamb Curry and Rotis ordered were fantastic and everyone dining at the Mowgli should definitely try the Gulab Jamuns. (The Gulab Jamun is the highlight of the entire dining experience) We enjoyed the Gulab Jamuns so much so that we just went in the next day only to have the Gulab Jamuns again! Staff was very welcoming and a special mention for 'Laura' and her brilliant service!

Not a huge Indian food fan but it was one of the best Indian meals I have had, flavours, quality and portions were perfect. I will be back to enjoy more.

Went to Mowgli Edinburgh last night (21/3) for the first time. We were greeted at the front entrance by welcoming staff full of smiles & seated instantly - no waiting about. Server came over as soon as we were seated with water for the table aswell as menus, she then asked if we had dined at the restaurant before and when we said it was our first time here she very helpfully explained the menu and also helped guide us with how many dishes to pick as it's all small plates. Server then gave us a few minutes to look over the drinks menu before taking that order while we still looked at the food menu. Once ready to order our food the Server very quickly and efficiently took our order and explained how the food would be brought to the table as its ready and not all at once. The food - WOW! Hands down the best take on Indian street food I have had 😍. Genuinely cannot fault any of the dishes that we picked. My personal favourite of the night was the agra ginger chicken. The restaurant was very busy but you can tell that the staff all work well together and know how to cope as nothing was too much bother for them. Chef Danny and all the team done an absolutely amazing job and I'm so glad I choose to have my birthday meal there. The restaurant decor is beautiful too. I will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh aswell as going to try Glasgows Mowgli too when we have time.

Do yourself a favour and visit Mowgli Edinburgh! A beautiful venue, amazing atmosphere, and delicious food! As soon as we entered the restaurant we were taken care of by the wonderful staff, all of whom were friendly, helpful and attentive. Things only got better when we tried the food! Everything we ate and drank was amazing and couldn’t be faulted. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! Mowgli truly has it all—thank you everyone at Mowgli Edinburgh! 🥰

First time visiting. The restaurant is really beautiful, in a lovely old building. The service was really good, friendly and helpful. It was busy though not full. As recommended we had 4 dishes each, they all arrive randomly and I was unlucky to have to wait for 2 of mine after the rest arrived pretty quickly. The food was good, I liked all my dishes. Nothing was that spicy. I had an ice cream for dessert and was surprised to get a cone. It was really good though.

Very beautiful place and very efficient service, however the food is below average.

The aesthetic is perfect, the menu is dazzling, and the staff is so helpful! They have swing seats for your inner child and also standard seats for people who would rather be stationary while they eat, which is a nice choice to have, haha. Definitely a place you have to visit!

Food was quite tasty but the portions were very small. Nothing special. Chat bombs sounded nice but had literally two chickpeas inside and lots of yoghurt. Better off going to a good curry house. We won’t be going again.

A great culinary experience. I am a fan of indian food and this restaurant is now one of my favorites. The dishes served are full of flavors.

A very welcome addition to central Edinburgh's Indian restaurant offering. Contemporary street food in a stunning new town building replete with original features (tip: look up!) and a few quirky touches. The swing seats will not be for everyone but add a little whimsy to the experience. There are plenty of regular seats too. If you want to try lots of dishes or can't make your mind up, you can ask for the chefs choice of tiffin. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and keen to make your experience enjoyable, even offering tastings of their orange wine (a sweet dessert-like wine). Reservations recommended.

Need reservations. Came here for valentines day. Such a beautiful atmosphere and vibe with the whole surrounding decorated in soft yellow rice lights. It gave such a romantic aspect to the setting. And above the ceiling was a beautifully designed dome if I remmeber right. Lovely and romantic architecture and setting. Some seats were even swinging seats/wooden swings. Really loved the interior choices. Food was really affordable and the portions are not too big, reflecting the price however it is really filling. Amazing Indian restaurant with a fusion feeling to the dishes. I had the lambchops with turmeric chips and the Angry Bird chicken.

No matter what city you are in Mowgli never disappoints. Fabulous food, incredible service. The staff always go above and beyond so attentive and incredibly friendly. Mowgli Edinburgh, your staff and of course your food are a credit to the Mowgli family. We'll be back.

Ambience and decor of this place is lovely, in an old converted banking hall. I was in a large group of 13 so could only order off the set menu which was fine as we were told in advance and it certainly made ordering easy and faff-free! Delicious food, and the chat bombs were a particular highlight with my group. My one quibble was that the remaining starter dishes were served after the tiffin box main dishes so space on the table was really cramped, and it would have been nicer to have been all served starter courses beforehand.

Our second time coming here last night for a celebration and the service was amazing. I think our server was called Ruth and she was so lovely, it made our night. Mowgli is definitely now one of our favourite places to celebrate anything. The food is also 10/10!!

I got to celebrate my brother’s birthday . The staff with amazing especially the two girls. Lois and jenny . They where abosolute fabulous. Kind and very much helpful. More over will definitely visit again.

I had a great time at mowgli!My waiter luke, I think that was his name, was very friendly and helpful informing me about the ingredients in the dishes. I don’t know how he carries that much on a tray but that’s a skill in itself, the food was delicious as well, will come again!

Upon entering the bar staff and receptionist were really helpful, the lady I think ( Lois) advised the best times they had to make a reservation for a special occasion and anything extra they could do to make my friends birthday extra special.

Nice ambience, friendly wait staff. Kid friendly service wise. A sort of Indian tapas style ordering system; food was a tad bland compared to what you might expect from Indian street food. The gunpowder chicken, which is also on the kids menu, tastes a lot like chicken dipped in cornflour and a tiny bit of pepper, fried; subsequently it was very dry. The yoghurt chat bombs were nice, a different take on chat.

First time visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Situated within a grand old building the atmosphere, service & food were great, with the mowgli chip butty & yogurt chat bombs worth a special mention. The separate vegan menu took all the guesswork out of ordering with a great selection of dishes. Will definitely be back when we're next in Edinburgh, thoroughly recommended.

Thank you SO much Mowgli team. As my husband and I recently got married and it was our first time in the city, I wrote a little request for a nice table if possible (which having now visited, I realise did not need to be said at all as everywhere was beautiful!). I was not expecting anything from it but thought I'd add it as there was no harm. When we arrived, we were seated on the swinging chairs which were so unique and fun. We were then given complimentary prosecco and wished a congratulations by our wonderful server. It was so unexpected and so kind. The atmosphere was wonderful; the decor inspiring. Food was excellent and served promptly. Thank you so very much! We loved it here.

The place is gorgeous! The service was top notch and the food too! We had the yogurt chat bombs, bhel puri, the house lamb and the house chicken curries with rotis and rice, everything super delicious! Also the mocktails we had were very refreshing, had great combinations and the gulab jamun and mango kulfi were the cherry on the top! Can't wait to visit again soon 🫶

An absolute amazing experience today, it was my first time visiting and i have to say i will definitely be returning. Amazing atmosphere, amazing food and our server Bowen was a blessing, witty conversation and just in general an amazing chap, deserves a big pat on the back. I thought the atmosphere was so comforting and our lovely waitress Sophie was so sweet! She recommended the Temple Dhal which was divine. I highly recommend the cocktails as well!

Me and my partner went looking for good food, we got more than that. Restaurant is very cozy, great for almost any occasion. Food was fantastic, but the best part. The service. We were looked after by Ewelina. Can't thank her enough. Very attentive. She knew before we did when we wanted something. If we were to come back to Edinburgh. Definitely a place we would visit again.

Brilliant service in this restaurant. I loved absolutely everything! Me with my family were visiting this restaurant for dinner and noone from us regrets it. My host Ross was so warm welcoming and give us great table. Also he explained a menu so we could easily understand what we should order. Update review. Went back to Mowgli's again to celebrate my partners birthday. I was hoping we would enjoy it as much as I did on my first visit - and we did! The staff are so friendly, the food was beautiful and a lively atmosphere that also feels very cosy and romantic with all the glowing fairy lights. The manager brought us some complimentary fizz to help celebrate - which I didn't expect and was very appreciated. I read that the Mowgli chain does a lot of charity work supporting vulnerable children, one sponsor per every full time member of staff. It seems to be a business with decent values which encourages me to come back. That and the amazing food! ******************************************* This place knocked my socks off! Buzzing atmosphere yet still feels cosy and intimate. The staff seemed genuinely friendly and the food was just outstanding. Went there with a friend and we shared 6 of the small plates and every single dish was fresh, flavoursome and moreish. The rhubarb dal was especially gorgeous. Cocktails were delish and reasonably priced. Definitely coming back soon to try more. 10/10

Went this weekend and was served by the lovely Luke! He recommended the Ginger and rhubarb Dahl, and the sticky chicken. All fantastic, service incredible.

We ate at Mowgli at the weekend and were totally blown away by all aspects of the place. The food was amazing, lovely flavours but not too overwhelming. We especially enjoyed the Roti Wrap and the Gunpowder Chicken, which we would go back for. The service was top quality, our server, Luke (small chap with Newcastle accent) made sure to recommend his favourite dishes based on our preferences and it was really nice as it felt like a personal touch was added to the meal. Atmosphere is epic with the lights, next time we go back we will try and get a table with the swinging chairs. Will for sure be back!

Visited mowgli with a group of friends, the food was delicious! If you’re looking for some Indian inspired street food with beautiful decor you can’t go wrong. Service was also impeccable, we were served by a lovely boy called Luke! He made us feel at home as we are also from Hartlepool! He explained the menu to us and recommended some great options like the chat bombs and the sticky chicken, he was very personable and quite a laugh which made the experience even better!

Super restaurant and not silly money. Have two or three main dishes depending upon your appetite. I'd recommend one of the cocktails. Again not silly prices and very tasty. I had the mango and chilli. The restaurant inside is beautiful.

The lovely manager Ross came and took my order in a very friendly manner which i really appreciated, i ordered my all time favourite, the lamp chops, and they were served to me by a lovely server named Meg, she was talkative and was very kind to me and my family. The food was amazing like always and i can’t wait to come back soon.

Came in for dinner last night and the place was fantastic. A young lad took us to our table, explained the concept to us and gave us some suggestions. The service was great, the place looks amazing and the food was to die for. I didn't get our waiters name but he was a tall lad with a beard and an English accent. His recommendations were spot on!

This Indian Restaurant built up by former Masterchef winner is my new favourite. Everything about this place in the former Clydesdale Bank building is amazing. The random dishes of the Office Tiffin selection is highly recommended. Also I am a wheelchair user and the accessibility is second to none (they have a platform stairlift for outside steps. The service by our waitress was very attentive and pleasurable and the manager Ross couldn’t have been more helpful. Top Class 🙏

My boyfriend and I were captivated from the moment we walked in. The decor is absolutely beautiful and gives a real unique feel when dining. The food is possibly some of the best Indian food we have tasted. We could taste all the flavours in our dishes and couldn’t help but order more. The staff were lovely and very attentive, plus is was really well priced for what we got. We highly recommend a visit to Mowgli when visiting Edinburgh!

I absolutely love this restaurant. we have been here many times it is beautifully decorated a great atmosphere food is delicious and staff friendly. We have eaten in the Manchester restaurant, and more recently, in Edinburgh, we have only recently acquired a mowgli passport and plan on getting as many stamps in it as we can Preston here we come .
