A nice curry restaurant with excellent food. Good choices on the menu. Ordered a couple of dishes per person which provided a good mix of tastes for everyone to try. A couple of rice and a nan. Sufficient food for 3 people. Very enjoyable and would recommend. The staff are friendly and good service.

Very good. I got the chicken tikka masala and it was ban spicy AND not too spicy. Very soft naan and delicious mango lassi. I also tried the ice tea and it was really good

Overall a great dining experience starting with plethora of options and sumptuous food. Lighting fast service and authentic food was a stand out . Would definitely visit again

I’ve seen this place multiple times while in Edinburgh and this rainy night I decided to stop by around 8:30 pm. Chaakoo is tremendously good, their Jaipur martini was an excellent opening to a brilliant meal. The dim biryani and raita were excellent and then the spicy large chai was the cherry on top of the cake. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. The restaurant reminded me of Dishoom and Kricket in London, but certainly this place stands its own. Totally recommended

Order the suggested curry and side to start, share a nan and rice. You can always order more or save space for a desert or cocktail. Food was very tasty 😋 We shall be back.

What an amazing place. Service was great, tasty low alcohol beer option ”Achchha” which is on par with the famous Cobra beer and of course the food. Small portions with just the right amount of spice levels to make any Indian happy (and of course anyone who is a veteran of Indian food) and perfect just for individuals, is something I’ve not come across before. Very happy I came here. Something I will definitely remember and shout about.

We ordered on deliveroo, the food was so well packaged and labeled! Tasted very delicious too (a tad too spicy for me but I have very low spice tolerance). I found the skewer stuff to be a bit too burnt tho but they tasted amazing anyway.

The service was quick thanks to all the staff.. The atmosphere is good, the backgound music is not Indian which for me was not an issue. The booth style of seating allows for conversation to flow.

Wonderful lunch. We had two thalli trays just to try out the kitchen. First class, food tasted great. Oh, I have been eating Indian here and in India for 50 yrs, so trust me it is worth a visit. Certainly better than Dishoom and a lot less expensive.

Had dinner here one night whilst on a short break in Edinburgh. Food quality really good and reasonably priced. Service quick. An Indian tapas set up which I found quite intriguing. That said, even though tapas, the serving sizes were about right for us. We're not huge eaters when it comes to our evening meal and these portion sizes were just right. Good range of food and selection of beers, wines, soft drinks etc.

Food was delicious. Ordered a few small plates, sides and humble curries. Everything was really tasty and cooked perfectly. Party had food intolerances and the staff were fantastic providing the full allergy menu on request and any additional queries. Atmosphere, restaurant was busy but not noisy, so we could hear each other across the table. Low lighting as well. Good spacing in between tables, didn't feel crammed in. Overall a really enjoyable meal and will most definitely be returning.

Ordered on Deliveroo. The order arrived very promptly - 22min from order to the door. We ordered the dinner for two and were not disappointed! Plenty food for us both - very good portions. Tasted amazing. Would highly recommend.

Some of the best Indian in Edinburgh!! Every single dish is incredible and strikingly unique. You can’t go wrong with the mango lassi also. The waiter are always nice and are attentive. Unfortunately, this place isn’t always full which is a shame as the food is top quality. Can’t recommend enough!!

Had food delivered for 2. Best Indian of our lives. Delectable, delivered quickly still hot. Just tops. I don't know who is in this kitchen, but I can taste their enthusiasm. This food tastes like it was made with care. Also, their packaging and labels are lovely.

Food portion is suitable for one person snack bite, so as recommended by the members there you have to order at least 3 dishes for one person and you can increase based on your hunger!

My Dad always groans when I say I'm getting Deliveroo because he never likes my choices but now I've found Chaakoo Bombay I'm the golden girl. Really impressed with the cooking, meat and chicken was tender and moist, and the flavours really distinct without being overpowering. And the prices were fair for the generous portion sizes. Truly top class and my Dad has said we have to get it again!

We called in without a booking and were surprised we could get a table for 4. The food was really good, advice from the waiting staff on what to order and how much to order was very helpful. We would definitely visit again.

First time visiting this restaurant, indian/Iranian tapas style. The food was delicious and the service was great. Only minor complaint perhaps would be the price, but would still return for another try.

Great food and amazing curries. All of the dishes were fab except the prawns which were pretty burnt and dry. Jungle bird cocktail is lovely! Gulab jamon (dessert) is 10/10. Would definitely come back here to try more of the menu.

Been a few times. Food pretty good. (Though chargrilled items are often burnt.) Junior staff spend a lot of time chatting to each other and its not easy to attract their attention. Senior staff good. Just a few improvements would make this a really great restaurant.

The food was not bad. Quickly prepared as well. But we were forgotten about before the order and after the order again. Spent more than 2 hours at lunch there at the end.

We came with high expectations…..Shown to our very small two seat booth with no explanation that food ie starters/main is all served at once. Starters came and then “main”arrived within a few minutes. There was no space on a very small table. They attempted to serve it twice whilst we were still eating starter. On finishing starter they took nearly 15 mins to serve our “main” by which time had been under the heat lamp for more than 20/25 mins. Food was quite decent but had dried unfortunately…… Its a shame. The team are in the main quite inattentive amd dissociated from the customers. You feel rushed to finish your food and there was zero explanation of the concept. Left feeling very disappointed….

I went to the restaurant to have dinner there, at 6:30 pm. I arrived and noticed that 1/3 to 1/2 of the tables were empty and only with a reservation would it be possible to dine. I then asked to reserve a table, with the only time available being 7:15 pm, and then being asked to leave and return at that time. We left, but after checking that there was nothing nearby to see, I decided to go back to cancel the reservation as I wouldn't wait 45 minutes. I noticed that there was a delivery guy and I remembered to ask if they had takeout and I still ordered food to take away. Having been told to wait at the door, they would soon notify us. I decided to sit at one of the 1/3 of tables that were still empty and at this time it was 6:45 pm, I waited for the food to be delivered which was at 7:07 pm and there were still a few empty tables and other people coming in asking for a table, the only difference is that The last ones to enter were offered the possibility of waiting at the bar, something that was never offered to us as a possibility, as I had waited there at 7:15 pm without any problem as I waited until 7:07 pm for the take-way. After realizing that they had a bar, I just wanted to ask for my money back and leave, as we were only treated like that because we weren't locals. Tourism is not welcome. PS: Very small portion, no value for money

We had a wonderful experience. From the moment you walk through the door you are transported to India. The food is outstanding, the selection very good and the staff are very friendly and attentive in the right way. An authentic Indian experience in all ways

Service was absolutely appalling. We had never visited this restaurant before therefore had no idea how the menu worked. We only realised after we had ordered when we heard a member of staff explain the menu to another table. The restaurant then had the audacity to add a service charge. We felt genuinely mistreated and disrespected. Even when I brought this to the attention of the manager the management used the excuse that this did not normally happen which did not change that fact that our entire experience had been completely ruined. The little food that was served was mediocre. Would definitely not recommend.

Great for a night out...unlike most curries you usually need a lie down .

Great food. We were told these are small plates, but we found the portions quite generous. However, the staff could do with being a bit more welcoming and friendlier. Only 1 member of staff was cheery and helpful. The rest looked miserable. I'm normally understanding, but that kind of customer service ruins the mood a bit.

A good experience overall, and I’m quite happy to see other options of the dishoom variety pop up, albeit none better than dishoom itself. Food came out literally a few minutes after ordering, which didn’t really inspire confidence and felt a bit rushed. Good food overall though, apart from the mango and banana crumble which was a real miss.

Ordered via delivery app so can't comment on the service or atmosphere, but the food itself was pretty good! Portion sizes on the slightly smaller side, but the flavour of the railways chicken curry was really good and the quality of the chicken itself was great. Naans were quite thin and not what I was expecting. Generally, nicely served and dispatched in a timely manner. Would recommend over some of the more heavily-reviewed Indian places in Edinburgh.

Booked a table for 4 for dinner. A decent number of offerings for vegetarians. The food appeared within minutes of our order, like a fast food joint. The gobi starter was very good. The food was to our liking. Would recommend the place.

I tried them once only, but I will try to test them again. I love their ambience, food is great and very tasty. A good range of spiciness, especially if you are more European-type and not used to Indian cuisine. Service was good, with one small issue: We were there when shifts had changed and our new waitress wasn't informed that we want to pay. So we needed to remind ourselves. But it was resolved quickly, so I consider this more teething issue than a systematic one. I would recommend to go there with friends and share the food as some of the plates are quite filling.

First impressions of this place were “Dishoom copy” and I have to say that didn’t change when we left. It feels like this place is trying to copy what Dishoom do, instead of just being original. The service was nice enough, and the food is tasty enough, but there were a few issues. For the curries you don’t get a lot of chicken/meat (I think I got 2 pieces!!!) - there is a lot sauce and not enough meat. But I will say the curries we had were very tasty. The biggest issue I had was that once we’d ordered it was out within 5 minutes. Far too quickly for any of it to be freshly made. Also, if you’re going to be this type of a Bombay restaurant then why try to cater to the masses and offer all the curries you get in every other Indian restaurant. Dishoom don’t serve ‘Korma’. Price was reasonable though and the food is tasty enough. It’s just average though, nothing special

Great to have another halal place in Edinburgh. I’ve heard good things about this Chakoo so thought we’d give it a try - we weren’t disappointed! The service is really quick, food is at the table in a matter of minutes. Portion sizes are more akin to tapas style so you’d be recommended to order a few items per person. I’d recommend the keema muttar and the butter chicken. Both were really tasty and went well with a garlic naan and masala fries!

The lamb chops were amazing and the fish parlours was good but over cooked however the curries were pedestrian, the "madras" had no heat at all. We had an early lunch so probably better atmosphere later on.

Wanted to try Chaakoo, Really liked the look of the place so decided to give it a shot. The service was quick although I was not expecting the food to arrive within 5 mins of ordering, which explains why it did not taste too fresh. We also ordered the pot of chai afterwards, which was also very disappointing as it arrived in a tiny pot, way too much masala/ spices in it and was lukewarm by the time we poured in the glass. I have drank chai all my life never had anything quite that bad before.

The food was delicious I’ve eaten in curry houses all over England and got to say the food here is superb!!!

Had a lovely meal out here, food was amazing. It is a tapas style whereby the plates are smaller therefore should order a few each but great for a sharing social meal. Saag paneer was delicious as were the pakoras. Lots of vegetarian choice. I will be coming back to try more of the menu!

For those of you resigned to queuing up for an hour for a table at Dishoom, help is at hand in the shape of Chaakoo. Drawing very heavily from the aesthetic and menu choices found at Dishoom this restaurant does not disappoint and at a much more wallet friendly price. The lamb dishes are superb with lamb you can cut with a spoon, the nans light a fluffy and the daal as good as dishooms, what's more you can book a table. Friendly staff and decent beer to boot. highly recommended

Nice food but really small portions for the price which was disappointing. It came out very quickly which was good but did make us question if it had been made to order. Had high hopes but overall it felt quite lacklustre and probably wouldn’t return. Service was great though and staff were really nice!

Staff were nice. Food came out very (too) fast after ordering. Must have all been ready cooked/heated up but it was fine. Daal makhani & peshwari naan were tasty, nothing to write home, about but the veg samosa was pretty nice. Looked like the portions were a bit small but it was enough. One thing that left a bad taste, the decor. It looked liked a Dishoom copy at first glance. Then I noticed the signage. Initially I thought, cool, wonder if the hindi translations are correct then my old eyes adjusted, it was backwards English stylised to look hindi.....but not just that.....with an added "s" here and there and other misspellings. Looked like it was making fun of Indians writing English poorly. Not cool.

Recently opened Chaakoo Bombay cafe is quite central. This is the second branch after the originally starting from Glasgow. We went around 9pm and the service was really efficient. Hot and simmering food was on our table within minutes of ordering! Would recommend the Tikka and Railway chicken. The Mango apple crumble was amazing 😍 Would definitely visit again! A good addition to the Halal food scene in Edinburgh

Great food and very friendly staff.

Went to Chaakoo a few months ago with my husband and mother-in-law. We were served by a lovely young lady who really took the time to help us understand the menu and make sure we got exactly the amount of food we needed. She also was kind enough to discretely point out the disabled restroom to my mother-in-law. The menu is generous without being overwhelming, the portions are just the right size and the food was delicious and wonderfully presented (I'm still craving the lamb samosas). I missed out the gulab jamon as they had run out, but the chai tea was really lovely and strong.

Indian food with a twist. Went with a group of eight, we all liked what we had, there was so much good stuff on the menu difficult to choose. Staff were great.

Booked expecting lunch menu but not available during Fringe ( booking did not state this). Small portions and appeared not to be freshly cooked as meal came for 6 people ultra quick. Seating on booth tight and overall would not go back.
