Mowchak in Wycombe

The food was great in the restaurant - waiter service not bad too. They provide a comfortable eating environment. I did however found towards the end of the evening that certain staff members to be rather rude - this included management and mostly directed at the management. That said it requires better customer service.

Good food overall. Maybe I needed mine to be a bit spicier. I chose Keema Mattar because it is medium spice but it came out rather mild

We arrived very close to closing time, but the staff went out of their way to serve amazingly delicious food!! Even though we arrived late, we were given an outstanding dining experience!

Really impressed with the quality of the food and the excellent service. I would definitely recommend and we will be going back with our family soon, perhaps for the Sunday buffet which sounds delicious. We had a popadom each with a nice selection of sambals while we looked at the menu. I was impressed to see they served local beer on the menu which was very nice. We shared an onion bhaji to start which came as a 4 so it was ideal to have 2 each, they even gave us an extra plate with a little salad on - I thought that was a nice touch. As mains we ordered Chicken Tikka Massala (omg … this was so delicious, such a lovely red vivid sauce and very tasty) and Chicken Tikka Korai (also very tasty) with a naan, mushroom rice and a side of saag aloo (also very good). All in all, it was a lovely and tasty meal, which came in good portions so at the end of the meal we felt nice and full but not bloated. I’ll definitely come again it was great.

Lovely take away meal. Service,quality and value excellent. Looking forward to the next one. Enjoyed the Chicken Dansak Balti.

We Booked a table here because we had been let down by another restaurant we had a great welcome and was surprised to see no one else in the restaurant but i suppose Monday's is quiet. We ordered our starters and mains and we were also offered the papadums and pickles we i love as a little appetite wetter. We only got half way through our papadums and our starters arrived which is ok but I wish we had finished our appetiser first. I had an incredible starter a Nabi kebab which was a tikka scotch egg with a beautiful sauce on it my wife had a mixed vegetable starters with a tamarind sauce and the mother in law some lamb samosas which she ate quite slowly all quite delicious. Again before the mother in law had finished her meal we were advised the mains were ready and they were put in front of us immediately. We were still the only ones in the restaurant so i could not understand how a little rest between courses couldn't have been managed a bit better. My wife and mother in laws meals were quite tasty but mine A Mowchack special was tasteless and lacked any kind of seasoning so different to the starters. And we as a family love deserts and aways leave a little in reserve for our pudding but when the desert menu came it was a page of frozen deserts the type you would expect from an Indian restaurant in the Canaries no authentic Indian deserts like a rice pudding or banana fritters for example. Its such a shame i was so looking forward to the Mowchack experience, but it fell well short of my expectations.

Nice pub, Friendly customers and staff in general. Food Service and customer experience far inferior to any other Indian I have visited. The food is hit and miss and frequent wrong item given as experienced myself and others.

The food here is excellent and the staff very friendly. They will try to adapt dishes to your taste wherever possible. Can’t wait to go back when next in the area.

We have been ordering takeaways with this restaurant since we moved to Stokenchurch in January. Already had it over 5 times. Every single time the food is absolutely outstanding. The portions are nice and big, food comes hot and well spiced. Side dishes are always super tasty. There's nothing we could possibly complain about, we LOVE Mowchak and whenever we want to treat ourselves this is our GO TO. Absolutely would recommend to everyone, best Indian I ever had.

We moved out of the area but came back to see our daughters. We just HAD to come back here. It was good to find that the food was still superb and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Will definitely go again when back in the area.

Thanks to Mr Sunak ate here this evening with my wife. Lots of parking. Friendly staff. Fairly swift service. Food was excellent. Decent portions too. The government scheme should encourage you to stop by here - I have no doubt if you were local that this would become a regular for you. Based on my experience when I dropped in for a solo lunch a few weeks ago I telephoned to see if they did takeaways – very helpful over the telephone and also offered to deliver to our cottage 5 miles away if the bill was over £25. We ordered enough for two meals for two people in order to get a good cross-section of dishes, and unlike other places where everything tastes the same, each dish was distinctively different and of its type, excellent. Highly recommended for both food and service, feels like they‘ve got a good and hard-working family team and we wish them continued success

Great restaurant for Indian dinner. Why not try the Sunday buffet to get a small assortment. Good and friendly service. Large menu giving plenty of choice - from some English dishes to a very hot curry.

Happened to stumble across this restaurant on the way home from Twickenham.very friendly staff who looked after us well and the food was delicious. I’m not very adventurous and always have the same meal and it was one of the best I’ve had. Very yummy !!!

There’s quite a lot of parking. The food is consistently good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you would like anything not on the menu just ask. However, there is plenty to choose from.

Past the service and the food was great I was very disappointed to find out that they currently have a food hygiene rating of two. This is unacceptable and I will not be visiting again.

After seeing many good reviews of the Mowchak we decided to give it a go, he who dares and all that!From start to finish we were disappointed. We went in asking for a table for 3 and were simply pointed to a table without barely looking up at us. The restaurant was empty by the way, so no other customers to take their attention away from at least welcoming us in.2 of us went for the chefs recommended vegetarian menu, and the other in our group just went for a standard tikka masala which was apparently ok.The starters for the vegetarian meals came out and consisted of chicken tikka, shish kebab and a small onion bajhi. After explaining that we had ordered vegetarian meals the waiter seemed to have a hard time comprehending that we didn't want the non-vegetarian food. In the end to make things simple for them I just ate what was given as I have only been a veggie for a short time, however my friend just got another 2 onion bajhis shoved on his plate. When the rest of our veggie meals came out there was more disappointment as the dishes we got were so greasy and tasteless and similar to each other that we ate very little of it.2 of the dishes were the same greasy potato and onion, 1 was potato and saag, and then a greasy mushroom dish. 2 rices and a naan. If this is a menu that showcases their culinary skills then I would not recommend anyone to eat here.We also could not figure out how after 1 pint of beer, a coke and 2 lemonades the bill came to £85 for the 3 of us! The prices on the website are way off the prices they charges us, but rather than stick around to complain about it we couldn't wait to get out of there so paid and left. We will put this one down to experience!

The food here isn't bad and the buffet days/nights are good value. However, the service is strange - we asked for water with our meal, and were told stern faced no - then the water arrived 5 minutes later. Later, we had food left over and asked if we could take it home - we were told we would have to pay £5 per box to take it. I wasn't sure he could be serious - when has anyone ever heard of that? However, he meant it and discarded all the food. I thought we were meant to be cutting down on food waste in this country, but not here. They should reduce the portion size or let people take away their left overs.I was left feeling vaguely told off. There's a good range of Indian restaurants in this town and though this is close to us, I doubt we will return.

I have eaten at this restaurant before and also had takeaways. The meal was average and there was not a lot of lamb. Some of the lamb was a bit tough. Disappointing

Superb curry. Lovely light and airy restaurant. We had a table by the window. Food served quickly and was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely vial, we have eaten there before but to say it has gone down hill is an understatement. The last time we went in for a meal in the restaurant floor was filthy which put me off my food which wasn’t great. So we thought we’d give it another go but had a take away. The prawn puri was tasteless and the prawns were like bullets very over cooked only had two mouthfuls and threw it away. Thought I’d stick with something simple so had a chicken tikka masala all it tasted of was butter and very sickly I now have a horrid stomach ache we will not be eating from here again

I have been a couple of times while visiting the area for work and can recommend Mowchak for fresh and tasty Indian food. The Service is excellent. The menu offers a wide selection of Indian favourites and a number of restaurants own twists. Indian restaurants usually offer good service but this is a step ahead. They also keep the local beers very well.

After a couple of nice meals here - we were sadly let down on a recent take away. Burnt Okra (never ever experienced that before) and very fatty lamb in a Lamb Joypuri made for a really disappointing experience. Will try elsewhere for a while

We’ve been going here off and on for over 10 years. Staff are always pleasant but you do have to get their attention. Food good and decent prices, though house wine a bit rough. Slightly better service would have seen 5 stars.

Another delicious meal from the Mowchak. We visit family in Stokenchurch a few times a year and always ensure dining here. This time a takeaway, still piping hot when we arrived home and all absolutely delicious.

Service was rubbish- had to ask for our drinks 3 times, 45 minute wait to order food and had to ask for the bill 3 times. Not the place to go for a special occasion, but food was nice

We have been using this restaurant periodically for team curries over the past few years and not once has it failed to come up with a plentiful, tasty dish. The menu remains interesting with twists on the usuals and unique (still) dishes.

Varied menu. Very tasty food. I had lamb Chom Chom which I highly recommend. Staff friendly. Will go back.

After living in Birmingham (home of the Balti Triangle) I wondered if anywhere would ever compare in terms of good Indian food. Luckily I’ve never had a single bad dish at The Stokenchurch Mowchak - not once in 6 years! I try to order something different each time because I love variety; I’m never disappointed. The lovely staff are so friendly and happy to help with recommendations and food information anytime I ask.

Went there at the weekend with another couple. Very cramped, we were put at a table hard against the wall with no elbow room. We were moved then to a table where the light wasn't working above. We asked for two other tables to be put together to accommodate us and the staff didn't seem eager to do it. We eventually got the staff to do this. After all the the food was very nice, but I don't think we'll visit again.

Visited last night with friends as we had read all the good reviews. However, we were surprised at the unsmiling, unfriendly staff and have not experienced this before in an Indian restaurant. The lady at the front was most unwelcoming. Our food was very good and we enjoyed it but won't be returning as we felt unwelcome. Needs some customer care training.

We have been to the Mowchak a number of times, but the last two occasions have been poor experiences. In general the food is of a high standard - having had pasanda, tiki masala, Khorma, buryani, Makhani etc.that said on some of the milder dishes there is a curious tendency to add a very large amount of butter at the serving stage, so you get a dish that is beginning to swim in butter. Twice one of our party has had to leave the food as they react to such overuse of butter.

We usually have a takeaway once a week and occasionally eat in the restaurant. The staff are excellent, friendly, efficient and very welcoming. They know their clientele and they are well supported by the local people in Stokenchurch. It's always very busy towards the end of the week and at weekends and that's always a good sign. The kitchen is of high quality and we have never had a less than good experience of the food. Very highly recommended.

I'm a regular here and in the Years I've been eating I've had one bad experience which was fully covered by the manager. It's nice to see a manager who's more interested in retaining customers rather than the £30 quid they would have made for the meal. Really fantastic food though. Love the Korma it's so sweet a creamy. Dansak is another highly recommended dish. The Restaurant also has a separate bar area which is nice to go before or after the meal. Takeaways are also offered

I go to this place in Stokenchurch regularly. There is a very good reason for this. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and the food consistently good. They also have a full bar. Need I Day more?? Well worth a visit.

We went here to my cousins 30th birthday party and we found this was a great place for a curry there is loads to choose off of the menu great place to visit and not bad prices too 👍👍

Had the pleasure to visit the Mowchak on Sunday 26th and immediately booked it for the following night which was the last night of our stay. The choice was fantastic and the service was second to none. The food was gorgeous and and the beer was cold. Really recommend this place and can’t wait to go back.

This is a very good Indian restaurant. The food is always of good standard whether eating in or taking away. At weekends it is always rammed which tells me something there are cars spilling out of the car park.

Converted from a pub this fully licenced Indian restaurant can be found on the Wycombe Road just outside Stokenchurch. We visit every now and then and have never been disappointed. The food and service are consistently good. Very reasonable prices and actually serves best bitter from the barrel!

I have been a regular here for five years. I always have the King Prawn Dansak, Saag Paneer and Rice. Sadly I have now moved. Highly Recommended.

Enjoyed a pleasant family meal with a good choice of food and reasonably priced. Table was not great (by kitchen and front door) and was a bit dark. Ambience wasn't great and felt like the place needed a clean but fab food.

First time here, very welcoming, very clean, very efficient and the food is delicious, well worth a visit and will be back soon. Friendly staff, quick and fuss free service. 7 of us booked mowchak last night for our Christmas evening ! Was busy ! Our waiter was a bit abrupt ... but our waitress was good ... service was a bit slow and when our mains came they could of been hotter ... but the meal was very nice ... they boxed stuff up to take home ... my sister had a salmon dish it was wonderful .... all in all not a bad place to visit !

Visited here for the first time at the weekend. I'd heard good things about it and it didn't disappoint. Very pleasant decor and the food, chosen from a very extensive menu, was superb!

We often get a takeaway (at least a couple of times a month) and this is becoming a favourite - food is great, prices are not low but not excessive, but my main reason for not giving it 5 stars is that twice I have got home to find a dish missing from the order.

The town has relatively few dining choices. I am a big fan of Indian food so I gave this place a try. I found the food a little on the bland side for Indian food but still tasty enough to finish. It is possible that the dish I ordered was just bland or they assumed I can't handle spicy foods.

If you are looking for a local Indian restaurant or take away you can't go far wrong visiting the Mowchak it had a restaurant and a separate bar where you can wait for your takeaway they serve Cobra, Stella and Heineken. The food is really good. I personally like lamb or chicken chom chom which a has potatoes in it a fairly dry curry dish and is is only available at the Mowchak.

Good selection for a group of friends with mixed tastes to choose from. Very enjoyable will definitely eat there again!

Again a lovely meal at Mowchak! Our local Indian in Mold has closed so when visiting friends in Lane End it's a real treat to visit Mowchak. The food is always great but the best bit is the staff. Lovely service and we are always made to feel very welcome indeed.

Three of us had an excellent meal here in pleasant surroundings served by friendly and attentive staff. Only (very minor) criticism is that the menu is over-long: a good example of "less is more" - a shorter menu focusing on some regional specialities perhaps?

We eat here every couple of months for a treat and it's always good. Lovely fresh flavours and a good range of dishes which all have their own distinctive styles. None of your standard curry splodge here. The staff are friendly and attentive though there can sometimes be a bit of a wait when they are busy. There are also good ales (e.g. Rebellion) if the Indian beers don't appeal. Favourites: Chicken Mossalani, Fruity Chicken, Mowchak Special.

We occasionally went to The Mowchak when it was based in Stokenchurch, so were pleased when they moved literally round the corner from us. We decided to try their Sunday buffet last week and it was as good as it had always been. The starters were lovely, an onion bhaji, a kekab,tandoori chicken and a delicious chick pea and potato curry. We also enjoyed the main courses. I particularly liked the lamb pallokee which was very nicely spiced.The service was good with lots of refills of the vegetable dishes which pleased my daughter who doesn't eat meat. The waiters kept checking that she had everything she wanted.All in all a very enjoyable lunch. We will go again

A weekend family get together was topped off with our first visit to the Mowchak. With its extensive menu attentive and helpful staff and this pub to restaurant conversion deserves all the success in the future. It will certainly be on our list of places to eat the next time we are in the High Wycombe area

Looking quite unimposing on the road North West out of High Wycombe towards Stokenchurch, you find this former pub converted to an Indian Restuarant. Nothing out of the ordinary there.Pleasant greetings get you to a table and a very large menu, with a good selection of interesting Bangladeshi style dishes but also some twists on tradtional Punjabi dishes (especially those with keema - lamb mince meat).Our group of four was left very impressed with what was offered, the way it was presented, and most importantly, the way it tasted.We will be back!

Wonderful food reasonably priced. Visually appealing food that delivers on the palete ! Samosas to die for ... im a bit of a whimp with the hot stuff so for me the lamb pasanda is perfect the mushroom rice is delicious too . Will be back for more for sure !

We don't often eat in the restaurant here, but on the occasions we have it has been lovely food is always spot on and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We usually have a take-away and this is just as good. The staff remember your name and what you usually order, and always pleased to see you when you turn up to collect.

This Indian Restaurant has a lovely friendly atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and the food is great. If you're not sure what to order then ask the staff who are very helpful in making suggestions and remembering your Iikes and dislikes the next time you visit.Always book on a Friday or Saturday night though as their reputation makes them very busy.

I am a regular user of the Mowchak for both eating in and takeaway and the food quality and service is always second to none. Last Sunday lunch time we took our visiting family from Australia. This was the first time I had ever been at lunch time but am very pleased to say the food and service were up to their normal high standard even though we ate a la crate and they were 'geared up' for their normal Sunday buffet offering. Thank you Mowchak you did us proud as usual and the experience was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family.

Have visited a number of times with friends who live locally. Really great menu and charming staff. Today they surpassed themselves. We booked by phone yesterday and their reservations mistakenly took our booking for today, New Year's Day lunch. Not to disappoint us, they opened especially for our party of four having been open for New Year's Eve revellers so had an extremely late night. The meal was, as usual, of a high standard. Chicken Niryiana was delightful. Chicken Nawabi also very well flavoured. Thanks to all the staff. Highly recommended.

Food great. Had Restaurant to ourselves as normally closed on Friday Lunch, but booking taken by mistake and honoured. As usual staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. We have become regular visitors as food ALWAYS good.

Last minute booking for table of 18 hence limited menu offered. Prawn dhansak was great when it arrived, however starters were returned as they arrived at the same time. Shame service was lacking and bordering rude as the curry tasted nice,

This place has a good reputation so we visited Sunday lunchtime. They were offering an All You Can Eat buffet for £10 each. Great value, and a decent selection of dishes. Service good, venue good.

I have been going to the Mowchak since it first opened and love the combination of amazing food and real ale, but the service is now appalling. Last night it was the worst it has ever been. We booked a table for six and as soon as I arrived I got a bad vibe as they didn't seem to be expecting us and just waved towards the tables saying take either of those. We then had to wait an hour for our order to be taken despite asking three times. It was the same with trying to order drinks, several requests for orders to be taken, they took a while to come and still one was forgotten. We overheard several other diners moaning and one pointed out that they don't seem to have any bother getting the mass of deliveries out swiftly. That seems to be where they are focusing their energies. The menu is extensive, lots of dishes I haven't heard of before and we were all delighted with the quality when hey eventually arrived but had we been in any kind of a hurry I think we would have walked out. Luckily we were in a position to make light of it. Having so many fond memories of the Mowchak I felt really sad that it had got into such a state.q

I used to live nearby and visited fairly often, but felt it had started going downhill a bit. This week I returned for the first time in a year (after moving) and was very pleased to see a brighter, smarter restaurant. The service was very friendly. The menu very good. The portions are certainly generous (so don't over order side dishes) and the staff are happy to explain anything you'd like to know more about.

This is by far the best Indian I've been to, the staff are so friendly and welcoming! Nothing is to much to ask for them and the food is always excellent! I've tried other restaurants but they don't live up to there standards so I will always return here! The buffet on Sunday is also a highlight! Would highly recommend here, me and boyfriend love it here! So much so we get a takeaway or eat in every week or so!

Stopped here for a nice meal during a long journey, food was lovely, very tasty and filling! I had to take the rest back in takeaway boxes, the staff were very accommodating and service was very good.

Decent venue, good decor. Very good food, can't complain on that.Was very busy during visit( Fri eve),not a bad sign, but be warned the tables and seating are really crammed in. Inadequate number of waiting staff & kitchen staff for such a busy shift, so dire service levels. Waiting times were far far too long. Takeout service was priority for staff.Seats near the kitchen are not recommended,very noisy, not relaxing, and the whole restaurant was extremely hot. Not sure why the restaurant manager didn't have the Air Con running as it was an uncomfortable experience. Maybe go on a quiet night or get takeout, but avoid busy times. I wouldn't visit again, as the negatives outweighed the positives by a mile, it's not just about the food!!

It's a while now since the old owners came back but it is still very good. The bar staff are very attentive and give good customer service and are very friendly. The restaurant staff are also friendly and give good customer service. If you would prefer something slightly different - just ask.

My partner and I are regular customers of the Mowchak in Stokenchurch and it is one of our favourite places to eat and has been for the two years that we have been together. The restaurant is local to us so is convenient but that is the last reason we visit so regularly! Everytime we go for a meal at the mowchak, we are greeted with friendly and familiar faces of staff who know us so well, they can recite our orders by heart! The service is faultless everytime we go and we have never had any complaints to make about the food. Last night, a table was booked for 13 of us for my partners 21st birthday and we left again with absolutely no complaints. A few members of our table arrived late which was not a problem for the staff who accommodated us in the bar and waited patiently for our late arrivals. The service was as outstanding as always and we weren't left waiting. The food as always was lovely and 13 very happy and full people left last night! Highly recommend the mowchak! :)

It's undergone a refurbishment but that's not all. The decor is brighter and friendlier, the service has improved massively and the food is great! So pleased that our local Indian restaurant is back on track!

Following a "difficult" time the Mowchak is now again open with most of the original staff. The food is great and the staff friendly and helpful. We went with a party of 7, including a young child. The service was a bit slow as the restaurant filled up but we didn't mind as there was plenty of conversation in our party. Good to see the old staff back and some new items on the menu. I stayed however, with my favourite dish and this was even better than before.

Me my husband and daughter stopped off here on our way back home to Worcestershire after a day out in London. Staff very friendly and attentive and nice good quality food that arrived quite quickly. The only complaint I would have is that for me my Chom Chom Chicken was a bit too salty but I don't add salt to my food so may be ok for other people. Would recommend if you want a good meal at a reasonable price.

As always the Mowchak offers a brilliant take-away service with top quality food, always piping hot and with an excellent selection. Haven't eaten in for a while but from what I've seen its just received a face-lift and looks much smarter.Highly recommended if you're passing along the A40 or fancy a good curry in the stokenchurch area.
