We absolutely love this place. Caleb and all of his staff are so friendly and helpful. They greet you like an old friend and always find the time to chat while at the same time ensuring you are served quickly. The coffee is amazing and the food is superb. Everything we have ever eaten here has been delightful - cooked perfectly and so tasty. Our particular favourite are the Sunday roasts which are available as a takeaway as well as dine in. Can’t rate Mousehole Deli and a kitchen highly enough. Both holiday makers and locals are regular visitors to it’s friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

We are regular visitors to Mousehole and we always look forward to celebrating our arrival with dinner out at this fabulous deli. What an incredible place to find in such a small village! The room upstairs is beautiful - twinkly and cosy, with lovely views - and the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. It feels like coming home every time! The cocktails are seriously delicious, as is the food, and it's always a perfect evening. If you're looking for a picnic for walks, we hugely recommend the pasties (which are worlds better than any others we've tried; current favourite is the cheese and veg, but we love them all) and divine sausage rolls (get the ones with apricot in them)! You'll also find all sorts of other treats downstairs...

Me & my daughter on boxing day 2pm. Arrived it was extremely busy but got a table in the cafe which was loaded with dirty plates cups cutlery glasses etc. Waited patiently for it to be cleared as i could see they were busy, after 20 minutes, table wasn't even wiped down,. I said to my daughter they probably haven't got enough staff as it seems to be how things are in a lot of places now. Not a lot of light bites left so my daughter had the fish finger sandwich in a brioche bun ; and a portion of skin on chips. I had the squash soup I was told it came with bread which soup usually does & a portion of skin on chips. Bottle of table water for drinks as we were thirsty. Food was served by an older chap from the kitchen who basicly just put it on the table with no cutlery or serviettes, I asked where the bread was with the soup?. He said it doesn't come with bread, I said I was told that it did?, i could hear a big discussion going on in the kitchen about the bread..he then appeared with the two VERY SMALL portions of NO skin on chips which were also over cooked/fried. & a small thin slice of dried out bread very crunchy, we had to ask for serviettes & I was given no fork to eat my chips with. we weren't asked about sauces condiments etc, Fish coujons in the bun had a lot of bones. Soup was tasty but served in a very large plate/bowl with probably around 400ml of soup in it that looked ridiculous lol. The young Red haired waitress was very kind & helpful we could see she was pushed to the limit under pressure. THE BILL...with 10% service charge. ( what service) 1 soup . 1 fish finger sandwich. 2 chips.. All with dreadful service & presentation. Thirty one pounds!!.. that is taking the piss!! We won't be returning.

Surprised by such a nice welcome at the end of a long summer season in a tourist village in Cornwall. All the staff were friendly, polite and very welcoming. Coffee was by far the best I’ve had in Cornwall and the Hot Chocolate, none of your sugar laden powdered rubbish here, rich and chocolatey, perfect. Food - I tried the (double stack) burger with bacon jam. Very tasty but IMO rather over-priced at £20. Having said that we have found prices in this area are on the high side at most places. Likewise for the Fish Finger Sandwich, good but a bit expensive. Would definitely return.

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.
